I called him to get a quote for a second job; he did do a good job the first time around- a bit pushy for my tastes, but there are all types of peeps out there;). Anyway, for the second time around when he found out I was calling to get estimates from other companies, he got very snitty -I guess I insulted him unknowingly by saying my current financial situation really did call for me trying to get the best price possible --- he's not cheap--- and I understand that if a contractor is licensed, insured, bonded, etc. that's quite expensive.... however, his reaction really was uncalled for-- acted like a real 'prima donna/uomo' tree trimmer. After he found out I was planning on getting other estimates besides his, he abruptly ended the conservation by saying not to bother to call him for his services again. Christian came by for the estimate, then again a week before installation to check the sprinkler system and double-check to make sure of any details or special instructions I might have. The crew was prompt, extremely hard workers, and courteous. On the installation day, he came by a third time to help his crew finish the job in one day. It was all that I expected and more! Been using Don's tree service for years, always been reasonably happy with his work. Last couple years the work has gotten a bit sloppy, made him come back to fix it. This year looked like he didn't do my front tree at first glance then and back tree was poorly done. I agreed to an amount to have my trees thinned and shaped and they maybe were thinned a bit but shaped poorly. Don knows what i expect due to years of repeat business, when i informed him i wasn't paying until he fixed the poor job they did he went into a tirade of insults and racist comments, about other businesses. First of all the appointment time was 9:30AM, but Don and his crew show up at 7AM, when me and my mom just woke up and hadn't had breakfast yet. Don kept insisting to do it now at 7AM, since they were already here. BUT AGAIN THE AGREED TIME WAS 9:30AM! He kept asking to talk to my mom who was in the shower and couldn't come to door and talk, BUT for some reason he thought he couldn't talk to me. So we did finally and multiple times he wanted to talk to her and say that they need to do the work now. No, again the appointment time was 9:30AM! Told him to come back at that time. He finally said okay reluctantly and left, and made a snide and egotistical comment as he walked away. Then we decided to cancel his services. So we called him about 10 minutes later and cancelled. And he hung up on us once, which is rude, so we had to call him again. Also when he came over the previous day for the estimate, he was describing things in an odd way and is he way too talkative! I had placed an inquiry into Don Williams' services on a Sunday morning and within minutes, I received a call from Don asking for more details of my requested job, which was to cut a trim a tree in our front yard that was greatly overgrown. I sent him pictures of our tree in question and received a quote within an hour or two. I had never had trees cut before so I was relying heavily on internet suggested prices. The quote he provided me was in line with everything I read and agreed. The best part was that he and his team were at our house 2 hours later to cut the tree! I used this service for several years and was generally satisfied. Then, I didn't need tree service for a few years (after my house burned down) but had one tree left that needed trimming. Don came out and gave a pretty high estimate - $350 for the one tree - but I trusted him and didn't bother with another estimate (or with getting his in writing). I too was very unhappy with the work that was done in my yard. I should have known that when he wanted cash the day the work was done that something was a little off. Don suggested we put mulch in my large back yard. The first two loads were fine but pretty soon I am getting all kinds of palm tree trimmings, birds of paradise blooms and even cardboard boxes and old sprinkler heads. Of course he was a charmer and said he would come clean it up. I told him I was not his personal dump but feel it was an easy way not to pay for dump fees. I actually paid a couple of guys to rake it up so he would be easier to clean up. Well he brings the three stooges to pick up all the neatly raked piles and they proceeded to rake it back into my yard and did not remove any of it. He promised many times to take care of it but never did. I am an older widow so my daughter called to see if he could take care of it. And of course he cussed her up and down and told her the courts would just laugh at her I have had several quotes to remove it but it is several thousand of dollars since some areas are a foot deep I too thought he was a nice guy but learned my lesson the hard way read more

After three weeks of Don saying he was going to send someone out to pick up the wood pile from the two trees he took out, he put an add on Craigslist saying "Free firewood" with our address. We found out about this when some random guy in a van showed up and told us he saw our add. Posting our address without our knowledge or consent is unacceptable. He never did finish the job he was hired to do. He never did respond to my last text. (I kept all the texts, Don, including the one where you said the job would be finished "100%" by Monday. That might have been a good time to mention the Craigslist add). Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, his word isn't worth a rodent's posterior. Which is too bad because his crew is hard working. We were looking for a tree trimmer from Home Advisor and found a few referrals. One extremely high and one average. Don was on the lower end saying that he had good prices. He sounded good on the phone 2 days prior as we set up an appointment for Friday, April 5, 2019 at noon. I cleared my schedule and Don was a no show. Whereas he was easily accessible before, I could not reach him until an hour or more later. He said he made a mistake on his calendar even though he was the one giving me the date. We set up another date for Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. Both my husband and I were at the house and again Don did not show up. His voicemail is full and it took over an hour to hear from him. Whether or not his excuses are valid today, another issue is he does not even bother to call you that they are not coming. This is not what I would expect from Home Advisor or from Don Williams Landscape Maintenance and Tree Care. I know its hard to find good service, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe I should not have given Don a 2nd chance and another opportunity to waste our time. Bottom line is I would not trust this guy to show up for service. Hope this review warns someone else to avoid Don at all cost. I would avoid Home Advisor as well. read more

I wasn't planning to write a review but felt compelled to do so for ethical reasons after careful thought. I can provide documentation of the emails, texts, and voicemails stated below. PROS: Prompt work completion Reasonable price Informative CONS: Unprofessional and unethical business practices Unclear communication Don had given me a quote for trimming my tree back in Nov. I asked via email if he would honor the quote, what his earliest availability was, and whether we needed to be home. He responded the next day by saying he would honor the quote and asked for my address, which was already in the original email. He did not address the questions about availability or whether we needed to be home. He said he would drop by to look at the tree and then left a voice mail, email, and text saying his guys were coming, without confirming with me that the time was acceptable. I hadn't responded while I was unavailable, and by the time I saw the messages, the crew was already in front of my house. I allowed them to proceed with the work since we were available at that point. The work was finished quickly, and Don answered many questions I had about the health of the tree. The next day he left both voice mail and text asking for a five star review, going into great detail about what I should write. I found that unprofessional and responded with the following text: "Hi Don, I find it unprofessional to ask for a 5-star review; customers should have the freedom to decide for themselves. I also find your communication unprofessional in ignoring my emailed questions and sending your team without first confirming with me (I allowed it because we happened to be available). I do appreciate the prompt work and answering of questions, though what you said was different from what other professionals said. For these reasons I wasn't planning to leave a review but would rather just tell you here for your business's improvement." He responded with a text and then called me asking what that was all about and went on and on about how great he was and how he really went out of his way to help me. He interrupted me multiple times and didn't seem interested in anything I had to say, and threatened to sue me for character defamation should I write a negative review. He hung up on me after cutting me off again. I found this response highly unprofessional and tried to make myself clear via two more concise texts, but he didn't seem to hear my points of constructive criticism. I am concerned that future customers could be treated in a similar manner since Don was not interested in hearing my honest, truthful feedback (that had no ill intention). I truly hope that the business will change for the better if they operate more professionally and communicate more clearly. read more

Don is a sweet talker. DO NOT HIRE HIM!!! He will sell you what you want and then not hold up his end of the quote he gave. He quoted me an amount to put in Pavers. Which included gravel for the base, sand for the pavers to sit on and cement the last row of pavers to lock in the pavers against the grass. He matched a price from a competitor so I hired him. Don took many short cuts. No gravel for the base, he leveled out the dirt. He said the dirt is hard and won't need the gravel. Then his workers put very little sand and no cement where it needed to be. They float sand on top of the pavers and broom the sand to lock in the pavers and then spray sealer on top. They sprayed sealer on my walkway with out cleaning the dirt off. Now I have dirt stains on my walk way. One of the pavers has a chip in it and I've texted and left messages 3 different times to replace the paver and add more sand on top of pavers. HE HAS NOT RETURNED MY MESSAGES! I was quoted 2500 for stump and root removal, hall away all the mulch and replace with sterile soil I believe he called it 8020 he also mentioned that he was going to put some white rocks down prior to the new soil so that the tree would have proper irrigation for its roots. He charge me $2000 for a $500 job left all the mulch and didn't provide me with anything else that he had said he was going to provide for that dollar amountAnd he won't return any of my calls but he was very quick to cash my check in fact within hours of me giving it to him he had cashed it. Don and his team have been responsive and professional. While not perfect (and who is) they are accountable, and ultimately made things right. Don, his son, and their team are passionate, knowledgeable, and eager to get the job done. Their responsiveness and follow through are superb. We Don and his team for a major clean up and removal of overgrown and cluttered plantings. Don senior made various recommendations including removal of a tree that would have damaged our home, we followed his advice and we are happy we did. We then hired his team to install a drip irrigation system and significant new plantings. There was initially problems with the irrigation system including some incorrect installation and malfunctioning parts but they came back and fixed everything. In working with Don and his team, like any contractor, it is important to come to clear agreement on the scope of work and the price before you begin. Like any project there can be some extras, I found Don to be fair minded and honest. I would give them five stars based on Don's charm and helpfulness alone. I would give them one star if the problems with the irrigation system had not been fixed. Don owned the issues right away and fixed them immediately and they committed to stand by their work. This is lengthy but here it is in a ridiculous nutshell: Don Williams of Don Williams Landscape and Tree Service # 980620, is mad at me for not handing over the last 1000.00 of a $15,000.00 job. A job he didn't finish, leaving a concrete loaded rollaway dumpster he refused to move, and has now abandoned. Read on if you want the whole scoop. On Sunday, November 9, 2020, I was given a written quote of $15,000.00 by Don Williams for renovating my L shaped front yard planter and paving the back patio. It took 4 days. During the jack hammer work on the patio, Don kept saying it was "a lot of work." He hadn't planned for that and "a lot of work" was a red flag for me of what was to come. He brought in a lowboy roll-off dumpster for the concrete. So, because he felt the back patio was a "big job," on a contractor's whim, he cut out the completion of the left side of the front yard planter. We didn't discuss this. I will say the back yard patio is beautiful, but the front yard planter is half done and a massive concrete filled bin, as of this writing, is still at my curb. Over the course of three days, he was given two checks totaling 8 thousand dollars and one check for 6 thousand dollars. On what Don said would be the final cleanup, they finally came at 12.30 with Don asking for the 1000.00 because he didn't want to "come back." I was leaving and told him I expected him earlier because we needed to talk about the rest of the planter and removal of the concrete bin. He went berserk...yelling at me that he "didn't expect this" of me, he "should've known not to be a good guy." I told him what the final pay plan was but he just kept right on talking over me. I left while he was still yelling at me but texted him that had he stopped talking and listened to what I had said, he would've heard that I WAS going to pay him but he needed to finish the front yard and haul away the dumpster before I gave him the final payment. Then...the texts began, threatening to "report you to all three credit unions." "put a lien on my house," that he knew "all the landscapers in the county and no one would work" for me, take me to court, charge "7% interest per day." All the silly threats that a person in the wrong usually uses to sound tough. Also, that I "broke his trust," that I should have "cash" in his hands, first, by 10:00 and then he would have the dumpster removed. I texted back that trust is honoring what you wrote in your quote. I didn't remind him that I had fed his crew through the duration, let him continually use my bathroom, nor did I complain that he and his crew showed up whenever they felt like it I took the planter out of the equation and texted Don to call for the removal of the dumpster and that he and I could sit in the front yard until the dumpster was picked up and I'd give him 1000.00, Nope. He said he "was done" he would be at my house at 10:00 and I should have a "check, NO cash" for him. He didn't show up the next day has ignored my calls and has now abandoned the job and refused to have the dumpster removed from my curb. Don Williams ignored the fact that he changed the scope of work, left the work incomplete and has left an overloaded dumpster at my home and subsequently abandoned the job Since I began this review, I have been in touch with the roll-off company who arrived, today 11/17/2020 with two massive truck/trailers and an empty dumpster to offload some of the weight of the first and haul them away. I have paid them $1000.00 and learned a lot more about Don Williams. I should've spoken to them first. sheesh read more

Never got a call back for the whole day so I decided to find another service. Don called me the next day and I simply told him that I have already made an appointment from someone else. He got really upset and started to accusing me by saying that I was "playing games" with him. "Awesome, hey btw do me a favor never call me again and stop playing games with me" Don said so precisely. He then hung up in the middle of the call. I cant believe how rude and unprofessional they are. They were working at my neighbors and they dumped stuff on my property. Left tree branches all over. When I asked them to clean it up, the person who said he owned the company told me I should let them do some trimming at my house and they would clean it up. I hired this company for landscaping, lighting and he also installed side gates. Don was initially very responsive and reliable but eventually became extremely unreliable and untrustworthy. My project took more than 4 months to complete. More times than I can count, he would say would come the next day and then wouldn't show. Sometimes weeks would go by with no work. The value of what I received was low as well as the quality. I was looking for something that looked finished and polished and my yard (front and back) looks like I just planted my own plants haphazardly. The last straw was planting inappropriate plants/trees (7 trees 24 inches apart that will grow to 30-40 ft high) that I now need to take out and replace.
