They did a good job, but with some interesting changes to the quote. Don said when he quoted us for the job that they would trim the pine tree back by about 30%, and that they would cover the neighbor's roof with plywood to protect it from falling branches. Well, they did an excellent job of trimming and cleaning up, but they ended up trimming the tree back by about 50% or more, and they didn't cover the neighbor's roof. There was no damage to the neighbor's roof, so I guess that worked out, but we were surprised at how much the tree was cut back. The tree won't have to be trimmed again for quite a while, so I guess that works out well for us, and it looks great, so we are giving a good review. The workers were polite and worked really hard the whole time. They were on time and did a great job cleaning up, even though Don said his main truck was in the shop unexpectedly. read more

Don Williams was the first call I picked up randomly, he was around the corner and asked him how much it would cost for my palm tree to cut. He gave a price that is affordable so instead of just one tree, I got him do the 4 trees instead. His workers did a good job and I am very satisfied. Don is a nice guy but this didn't go well at all. It has been a little over a month since we had our work done and we are seeing quite a few issues. We had two palm trees transplanted and one is all but totally dead. We have decided to remove it completely now. We had artificial grass installed in the front yard and there are a couple spots that really don't look good and the seam is just right there in the middle. We were told the seam would blend in a little better in a while but it hasn't changed. We asked that the sprinklers be removed form the front yard. From what we can tell the water line was just cut at the valve. They did do a really great job of removing a huge tree in our backyard. Though, when they lifted up our artificial grass to remove a big root it was laid back down poorly. We asked that the border around the back yard artificial grass be repaired as it was pulling away from the ground. It was pushed down and held in place with a rock. Once the rock was removed the border popped right back up. The biggest disappointment and the reason we just decided that their work was done was the pavers in the back yard. I explained to Don that we were not happy with the way they were put in and what my issue with it was. Sand was not compacted before re-sanding then watering and sealing. When the time came for the pavers to be done the workers were just sweeping sand over the sand that was already there. I explained what I wanted to the workers and they started over with what I thought would be the way I asked. No, they just started doing the same thing again. I told them to stop and called Don. I explained I wanted the current sand removed, new sand, then compacted then new sand. He commented that it wasn't how they usually do things but would if that's what I wanted. I told the workers that they need to go ahead and take off for the day and the next day how I wanted it. The lead worker said I've done big jobs and that's not how we do it. I let him know I am paying and he will do it the way I wanted. Never mind the fact that what I was asking for was printed on the bag by the manufacturers. I was asking them to follow manufacturers instructions, that's it. Well, at that point I decided that we just weren't happy and they needed to be let go. While ours may not be the typical situation it happened none the less. I just suggest that you pay very close attention to how things are being done. I was amazed with Don and his team's quality of service. I asked for a quote through Home Advisor and received a call in 5 minutes to ask if he could stop by and review the work that needed to be done. He was at my door 5 minutes later. He thoroughly walked the property to know exactly the scope of the work and said he would email me an estimate shortly. In the meantime, I had another tree trimmer stop by giving me a quote on trimming just two of the large Jacaranda trees. Don quoted me a fee for trimming 8 trees plus fertilizer and soil amendment at the base of each tree. Comparing the two quotes, I received far better value from Don. His crew trimmed my trees to look very natural. I couldn't be happier with the results. I will have Don back to help me with my lawn in the next couple of months. read more

DON WILLIAMS IS TRULY THE MOST UNETHICAL AND DISHONEST BUSINESSMAN I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH!! I used Mr. Williams several years back, and while I found him to be a "fast talker" he did a reasonable job of trimming my Mimosa Tree. This past April I decided to have Mr.Williams pull out my very large and old Mimosa Tree due to the risk imposed by the breakage of large limbs. Mr. Williams matched the price ($700.00) I received from another contractor, and because of the insured and bonded status that he claimed to have I decided to go with him. After the tree was removed, I discovered that Mr. Williams' workers cut through an irrigation pipe that was part of my lawn sprinkler system. I was losing quite a bit of water, and Mr. Williams agreed to return to make the pipe repair. When Mr. Williams called me at work to confirm the pipe repair had been made I asked him if he would have his guys inspect the "health" of my entire sprinkler system...both front and back yard. This is where Mr. Williams decided to take complete advantage! He charged me $150.00 for what he called a "check, set, adjust" of the entire sprinkler system. When I got home from work I discovered that the sprinkler stations in the front yard were not operating at all. It turned out that they had not been operational for some time unbeknownst to me. If Mr. Williams had worked on the entire sprinkler system as he had claimed, he would have known this. He DISHONESTLY claimed to do work that simply was NOT done! Rather than make any accusations, I simply asked Mr. Williams to make the front yard sprinkler stations operational. Mr. Williams' workers found the wire malfunction at the valve site and made the repair. I also had Mr. William's replace two faulty sprinkler heads in my front yard. This was further evidence that Mr. Williams NEVER properly checked or serviced my sprinkler system as he stated! Mr. Williams then proceeded to do work that I NEVER approved of or authorized: All the wires were replaced in my sprinkler control box. This was completely unnecessary! Further, the wires were replaced randomly so the sprinkler system no longer operated sequentially through the stations (#1-9). It was now completely random. Mr. Williams said he did not have time to correct the problem and played it off. My own sprinkler man (semi-retired) came over and confirmed that Mr. Williams did work that was completely unnecessary. I paid for work that was neither necessary nor authorized. To summarize, Mr. Williams was at my home for a little over two hours to simply correct the non-functioning front yard sprinkler stations that should have been detected on his earlier visit if he had done his work HONESTLY! To add insult to injury, Mr. Williams proceeded to do further work that was neither requested nor necessary! He promised to provide me with a work order/receipt, but one was never provided. His initial charge of $150.00 for the "check, set, adjust" for my sprinkler system became a $650.00 charge! I was speechless!! He reluctantly agreed to come down to $475.00. Still an outrageous fee, AND FOR DOING WHAT?? But just to end the entire nightmare I paid him (IN HINDSIGHT I SHOULDN'T HAVE!). Later that evening I reminded Mr. Williams through a text to send me the work order/receipt that he promised me. He responded with a belligerent message and refused to send me a receipt. I have no doubt that Mr. Williams knew I could use the receipt against him in a small claims court. Two weeks ago, I had a professional tree landscaping company (Moon Valley Nursery) in Irvine replace the Mimosa Tree that Mr Williams removed. They found heavy roots at the trunk site that had to be removed before the new tree could be planted. The workers were quick to tell me that a hired "tree man" would return and do the "extraction" properly IF HE WAS ETHICAL. I immediately texted pictures of the root problem to Mr. Williams and asked him if he would return to complete the job. I told him it was going to cost me an additional $100.00 to have the roots properly removed. Mr. Williams never responded. Mr. Williams first drew me in with his talk about being a devout Christian who attends the Calvary Chapel church. I now see what a deceptive ploy that was! I've learned a serious lesson here. I naively trusted Mr. Williams only to be completely taken advantage of. For those of you who are reading this, I strongly advise you to ALWAYS GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE BEFORE THE WORK BEGINS. MAKE SURE ALL WORK IS DISCUSSED AND AUTHORIZED. NEVER ASSUME YOU WILL RECEIVE A REASONABLE PRICE FROM SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT FOLLOW SUCH ETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES. THE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM AND INTEGRITY I WITNESSED FROM MR. DON WILLIAMS WAS EXTREMELY DISTURBING. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY SO COMING FROM A PROFESSED CHRISTIAN. He was one (1) of five (5) other contractors who reviewed the project and gave us a quote. Don was enthusiastic and full of ideas. His quote was higher than his competition but he sold us with his follow up, professionalism and confidence. Previous customers were over the top in praise for his work. Don's team removed our broken spa, replaced all concrete, refurbished patio cover, installed decorative flagstone, replaced sliding glass door (house access), installed Dutch door (garage access), built French drain, installed lattice to cover A/C unit, installed fountain, installed fire pit with natural gas connection, built two gates, installed two light fixtures and connected electrical, painted all wood surfaces and installed a drip watering system in the planters. We cannot overstate what a professional and quality job was done. He basically added 500 square feet of living space to our home. His crew was courteous and they worked so hard. They cleaned up the area at the end of each day. Don was there at least once every day and was in constant communication with us. He had some great ideas that improved the project. Found Don Williams on Home Advisors.. he may get great reviews for landscaping, but don't hire him for any concrete work or anything else for that matter. I hired him to put in a walkway on the side of house. When I saw that he did not have the appropriate gravel, and said to "trust" him. He said he knows what he is doing and just finished a job for a woman who is the CFO at Experian. He tried to up sell me to put in more drains to meet his original estimated price after we agreed upon a lower price, so I had him stop the work. After he worked the first day, he asked for money to buy materials. I did not give him any because I was not happy with the work. He wanted $1700 of the $2400 we agreed to pay for the complete job. We let them know that we thought this was not a fair amount. Then he sent threatening texts and started calling us names. After all that they sent an email asking us what we were willing to pay. Then Julia Williams the owner sent an invoice charging us for 2 days of work for 5 employees, which was a lie. Don was there 1 day. Also it didn't seem feasible to have 5 guys working on in a side of a house on this job. The invoice also had charges for "road gravel, etc". This was another lie. Don did not provide any materials other than 2 by 4 wood frames for vents. I asked for details on the invoice items and what was the "etc" for materials?? I had this guy do work for me twice first time was fine,second time he got my X-wife to give him the full payment for the job and didn't show back up and left a big hole in my front lawn. I had to call him numerous times and he was very rude and unstable and just refused to work anything out I found out his License was suspended and I wanted the remainder of my money back and he refused to give it back.He barely started the job!!
