I bought a used 2017 Ford Focus from Don Wood Ford in Athens OH on 07-28-25. They convinced me to take the extended warranty insurance since the car was an older model. Now in November, just 4 months later, I'm having transmission problems and the part needed is not covered by the warranty insurance they sold me. I've talked with my salesman Cody, and I've also talked with Pete and Zach Delaney, and they promised to check on our extended warranty and call me back, but they NEVER do. And now I keep leaving messages and no one is returning my calls. When I finally got in touch with Zach, he told us there was nothing he could do. So I would advise anyone looking for a used car to NOT buy from Don Wood since their cars are obviously pieces of junk and they don't have any kind of customer service at all. Bought a Honda from Don Wood over a month ago. I had them reprint the contract stating they promised to provide the AC Lines. Guy told me they would have them rush delivered the next week. Here we are, over a month later, No AC lines. FURTHER - I have been making regular calls and cannot get anyone to respond to me. Always told they will call me back...never get a call. On our way through Athens about 2pm on a Friday afternoon we unfortunately got a flat tire that we could repair ourselves. We called Ford roadside assistance and unfortunately they were less than helpful. We googled the closest Ford dealership and this is what popped up. We called for a tow, their were three of us so we couldn't all fit in the tow truck. The service manager Larry came in his personal vehicle to pick us up within 15 minutes of the call, along with the tow truck. When we arrived they fit us right in for a tire change although Larry initially said they were backed up. We were in and out within an hour and the tow and tire change was covered under our warranty -- which I know is very lucky! Great customer service at this location!! read more

This place is a dumpster for a business. They sell lemons. Wouldn't budge on price. And, after I overpaid for my truck, I have had to put over $2,000 in it since, in less than 2 months. Also, they sent me the paperwork they was supposed to go to the bank. So, I couldn't get legal tags and registration for almost two months. Contacted dealership on Thursday to see a vehicle. Schedule an appointment for 9 AM on Saturday, was told the appointment was with Kevin. Pre-applied online and had a conversation with the financing person prior to arrival. Drive from Columbus to Athens to be there at 9 AM on Saturday. Neither man in there when we walked in go up to greet us, we had to walk towards them. One of them was the one I had even pre-applied with. Vehicle is filthy, has no gas, no air in the tires. Waited until 915 with no sign of Kevin so we left. Very bad first impression. No previous experience with this dealership. I have always bought my previous cars through private party so I wasn't sure what to expect. We arrived and nobody came out to meet us. We walked the lot for 30 minutes without a greeting. Had to go get someone just to check on prices for cars they didn't have online, because none of the used cars had tags. Found a nice car, what we needed but top end of our budget. They wouldn't budge or work with us which made me want to walk away but it's a good car from what we could tell so, moved forward with it. Then sat in the waiting area for almost 3hrs waiting! On what I don't know, nobody communicated to us. There was only one other couples in the building. Finally signed the paperwork and were sent on our way with no help on the keyless door entry code or gas to get the car very far. I'm just not impressed on customer service, but have no experience with services or quality of product so far. Will update with any details if they. Update: This places sells lemons, less than 6 months after purchase the car has broken down twice. We've spent hundreds trying to fix it and need to spend couple hundred more just to get it running plus it needs thousands of work in the next few years just to keep the vehicle running. We met with a salesman and ordered an F-250 in January 2022. We were told at that time we could use the Z-plan. We emailed our Z plan PIN number to get the discount. Apparently later in January they decided they would no longer honor the Z-plan but never bothered to tell us. Fast forward to July 2022 when the truck is in and ready for pick up. We go to pick it up and are informed they are no longer honoring the Z-plan but we can still pay retail price (7K more). Salesman said he had too many orders (like 72) to go back through and let people know, he was very rude. The guy had 7 months to let us know! He asks, what would you have done about it anyways? We said cancel the order and order it through a Ford dealership that does honor the Z-plan. He says well no one is honoring that right now. That was a lie because we went back to our hometown and bought through them with the Z-plan. We were later told that we should have filled out the Z-plan paperwork when we ordered but the salesman didn't mention to us that we should do that. We think he just wanted the truck on the lot so he could sell it to someone else for more money. He didn't let us know because he knew we would cancel the order. We are new to the area which is why we went to this location. We buy a new car every couple years and they 100% lost all of our business. We're very disappointed in this Ford dealership. beware of these scammers!!! this dealership scammed me on the purchase of a 2012 chevy equinox and concealed major engine issues in order to get the sale. not to mention we paid way more than the car was worth! they knew our situation was desperate and we needed a vehicle that day which they took to their full advantage! only got 10 miles down the road the day we bought it and the check engine light came on and it was pulling multiple trouble codes! the dealer had already closed at that point so i called them first thing the next morning and they refused to do anything to help us! they unhooked the battery to make the check engine light go away and to conceal the major issues the car was having! checked the oil 2 days after we got it because the motor sounded like a diesel engine and was knocking! come to find it was completely bone dry on oil! little did i know the car would continue to drink oil we were putting 4 quarts in it every 1000 miles! we only got to drive the car for 4500 miles and got the oil changed one time as specified by manufacturer. over the course of the 4500 miles we put over 30 quarts of oil in it! then finally it had consumed so much oil that the timing chain jumped time and ruined the entire motor. don wood told me i had to purchase a service contract thru wynns plus or i wouldn't be eligible for financing when the motor failed completey i thought this service contract they made me get and cost me almost $1800 more would pay for the failure but nope after a month of going back and forth they refused to pay for the motor replacement! $6000 it cost me to replace the engine and now it still needs another $1300 in work (our payoff is still $7500 and its not even worth $3k now) our local dealership service manager said the motor had already endured significant damage when i took it in 2 days after i purchased it from don wood! which again proved they sold me a vehicle and concealed the engine problems! i am now working with a dealership fraud lawyer don wood will pay for their scamming fraudulent ways! read more

I spoke to Heath on Thursday about a Jeep Wrangler I had interest in. I offered to put money down to hold the car until Saturday. He said that it was not needed, as he promised to hold the Jeep until Saturday morning. We made an appointment for 9am that Saturday, did the online application, and drove from Columbus to Athens. Ten minutes before they opened Heath texted me saying the Jeep was gone. I would have appreciated a call from Heath so I didn't waste my morning. read more

I bought a truck last week and was really surprised by the lack of pride, service, and cohesion of the Don Wood teams. Sales seemed to think they were the only game in town and were uninterested in anything other that their sticker price. Service, well I wouldn't go in there to ask for directions, they are totally lost. They can't tell you what a service costs, just what the low end (read, the price you'll wish you saw) would be. After further questioning I learned that they don't even possess tools recommended by Ford for specific tasks. Bottom line, we bought the truck... they chased us to our car to offer what we'd been asking for for hours, and I have no reason to ever return. read more
