Doctor Tanenbaum's website says he really takes the time to listen to patients and their problems. I found him to be arrogant and aloof. His rates are RIDICULOUSLY expensive - $350 per visit not including any procedures he does while you're there. I blew over $1000 on ONE visit for Botox to relax my jaw muscles. NONE of his treatments helped me at all. He insinuated that my symptoms - such as ear fullness & pressure - were all in my head when his treatments weren't successful! I spend over $2,500 for NOTHING! Beware! Quacks like this guy take advantage of desperate people who are in pain and suffering promising a cure to their TMJ. read more

I went to see Dr Tannenbaum about constant pain for 10 years, by my left ear, thinking it was a TMJ issue. I've been on disability due to this constant head pain that gets worse when I speak! The visit cost me $1,000. and after my exam this is what he said to me. "There's nothing wrong with you. Why don't you do something with your life and go out and get a job!" What an arrogant prick! I was referred to Dr. Tannembaum's practice by my primary dentist after he suspected that my oral-facial pain was originating from my temporomandibular joints. When I visited Dr. Tannembaum's office, he examined my teeth and took a panoramic x-ray of my mouth. Afterwards, he determined that my pain and associated symptoms were due to emotional stress and recommended that I seek cognitive behavioral therapy. I followed Dr. Tannembaum's advise but the symptoms persisted. A few months later, I was examined by a Neuromuscular Dentist who determined that my symptoms were originating from a misaligned bite. This diagnosis was confirmed with panoramic oral x-rays and other specialized tests, which are unique to measuring the functionality of the mastication muscles. That doctor recommend that I wear a customized bite splint and referred me to a Cranio-Cervical Physical Therapist. This course of treatment has proven effective towards relieving my symptoms. Had Dr. Tannembaum diagnosed me correctly, my condition would have improved sooner. I wasted my time and money by visiting Dr. Tannembaum's practice. read more

Tanenbaum examined me on 1/30/20. I had previously seen him approximately 25 years ago when I was having severe head and neck pain. Part of the treatment included 'trigger therapy' (where he injects saline into the muscle). During one treatment, he caused me such excruciating pain that I let out a loud scream. His EXACT response (and god help me, this is burned into my memory) was to say in a very patronizing manner 'That was an inappropriate response'!! I'm sorry, but what does 99% of the earth's population do when they are 'hit' with absolutely excruciating pain?! Recently I thought I was having a reoccurrence of my original problem and was in too much pain to look for another dentist, so I went to him on 1/30/20, hoping that he had mellowed in his offensive treatment of patients. HAH!! Silly me. He's only gotten worse. While Tanenbaum was taking an oral history of my complaint, someone walked into the office where we were, in the middle of his taking my oral history, and gave him a copy of a book he had written, for an autograph. He did not just sign his name, but kept writing, and writing, and writing, etc. The person who gave him the book remained in the room while he signed the book, thus hearing me discuss my dental issues. A clear and extremely serious breach of the federal HIPAA laws. This is absolutely unethical and unprofessional since it took time away from MY examination, for which I was charged $875.00 (yes, your read that amount correctly!). AND he doesn't take insurance. Basically, I paid him to sign a book! Later, I was asking Tanenbaum a question. He was not in front of me so I assumed he was behind me, listening. I heard a rustling noise that caused me to turn around to see what was happening. I discovered that Tanenbaum had left the room - WHILE I WAS STILL ASKING MY QUESTION. At NO point did he indicate that the examination was over or that he was leaving the room. He simply left to confer with the man who handles their computer systems. AGAIN, this is extremely unethical and unprofessional. I had more questions to ask, but was given NO opportunity to do so, since Tanenbaum was now discussing his office's computers in another room. On his website, he states: '...We have relationships with several financing mechanisms...to assist you.' At NO point were these 'financing mechanisms' (whatever the hell they are!) EVER discussed with me. Either this is neglect for not discussing this with me (does he think everyone can afford $875.00 for just the initial consultation?!), OR the 'mechanisms' no longer exist, in which case this is false advertising. Among the questions I wanted to ask him were whether I needed antibiotics before the required root canal procedure, and if he could proscribe a non-opioid, prescription pain medication. I could not ask him these (and other) questions, since, as noted, he had already left the room. He is just as arrogant, demeaning and patronizing now (if not more so!), as he was 25+ years ago when I first had to go see him. If you don't mind being treated like a three year old, having a total stranger hearing your medical history, being scolded or paying $875.00 to watch him sign his book (all 150 pages!) on your dime, Tanenbaum is the guy for you. Dr Tanenbaum's services aren't cheap but it's my health & the results are amazing from the 1st visit. He's a lifesaver to me and many others where no other board certified specialists could do anything for my head/neck pain. I had actually lost most hearing in the right ear, verified by 3 separate hearing exams at an ENT, and it came back within a day or so after he treated the underlying cause. THE BEST!! read more
