Great experience! I called these guys around 6pm on a Monday evening to see about having a new toilet installed. I was called back within an hour or so & was able to get scheduled for the very next morning at 8am. The entire job took about an hour & they were very reasonable. I'm just glad I actually got a call back from someone & was able to get our toilet installed. I had tried 2 other handymen prior to finding these guys. Our project included tile floors in two bathrooms, one heated; rebuilt shower with travertine tile; two new shower valves; two new exhaust fans and shower light; prefinished hardwood floors throughout main level of townhouse and on 1 flight of stairs; painting on main level; quartz countertops, sinks, and faucets in kitchen and 3 bathrooms; glass tile backsplash in kitchen. Done to Spec had a competitive estimate compared to several other contractors we researched. The work was done well and overall we're very happy with the results, especially the tile work. They went out of their way to make sure the stairs were done correctly and that the wood matched up well to the tile on the landing. The tile in the bathrooms was very well laid out. The project went more slowly than expected, however, since they're a pretty small outfit, and this was a pretty large project. We weren't under any time pressure, and we felt they took the time to do it right, so it was OK in the end. Communication seemed to get more sporadic over time, and we had a little surprise charge near the end of the project. The charge was justified, just not well communicated. Overall though, we can highly recommend Done To Spec, and would hire them again. read more

I hired Ryan and his crew at Done to Spec to help complete some improvements and maintenance to my condo before renting it. They were great, on time, very professional, clean and are just straight forward people doing good work. This was by far the BEST experience I have ever had with a handyman/contracting service, I think more in their industry would be wise to take notes from them. Just finished a major master bath and laundry room remodel plus multiple odd jobs that have been long delayed. If I could sum up their team with three words they would be honest, trustworthy, and skilled...but more words would include punctual, knowledgable, creative, craftsman, consistent, effective, and friendly. I've worked with every kind of contractor and can honestly put D2S at the top. I will hire them again to do our kitchen, living room, and onward. We recommended to friends. We trusted their crew with our tween kids alone. I hate when contractors don't show up or "go dark", but this never happened with D2S. They communicate with multiple methods and with quick responses. They do their homework. They delivered reasonable value in the pricing. They didn't change order us to death. They never begged for money. They were set-your-clock punctual...8AM sharp every day (loved that.) Were there hitches and mistakes...or course; there always is but D2S handled all with class and fairness. And in the end the work is exactly or better than we imagined. We now wake up to a 5-star hotel Zen bathroom and actually enjoyed the process. Hire these guys! read more

This handyman service was referred by a neighbor. Needed a ceiling fan installed in a 2nd story hallway to replace an existing fan. No one came out to give us a quote and I specified that we had 10 foot ceilings and this was a hallway connecting 1st and 2nd floors so ceiling height was 20+ feet. The first person sent out was rude, walked through our home with shoes on and knocked off and broke a violet plant I had in the window. Had no idea what he was doing. After 2+ hours Ryan, the owner, had to show up to complete the job. Charged us full price even though it was a total fiasco. Cost over $375 for what should have been a 1-1/2 hour job. read more

I'm normally not someone who writes these but I do use them as an input to making a decision as to whether or not to go with a business. This is why I feel it's vital to give people thinking about using this contractor our experience so they are able to make an informed decision. We had what I would call a fairly large remodel on our house that we purchased recently. Things like, move laundry room from downstairs to upstairs, updates to all rooms to include scrape ceilings, install can lighting, painting, remodel second full bathroom, etc. We decided to contract with Jacob and his business based on a reference from our realtor. For the first few weeks, things were going along according to plan. Then we ran in to "challenges". Jacob's business started to take on too many jobs going at the same time so he needed to hire a sub to come and do the work on our house. So while the sub came in and did the work, Jacob went MIA. The sub wasn't who we hired for our house. We hired Jacob. He wouldn't stop by at the start of the day to line up the work, and didn't come by at the end of the day to check on work that was performed. He also wouldn't check in with us, his client, to see if we had any questions, concerns, issues that needed his attention. Not what I would describe as delivering quality customer service. So that was the first issue we came across. When it came to doing the bathroom, we were told it would take about 1 week. It took 3! Big no no for us! Once work was getting "completed", we noticed a lot of details that were missed/overlooked. Things like the can lighting not being flush against the ceiling. screws that were lose and needed to be tightened, holes that were left open and needed to be patched, calking that needed to be finished, basically, the detailed finish work was not done! The point here is that we had to speak to the sub, who then had to get in touch with Jacob, who was not timely with responding because he was over committed with other jobs. When we went directly to Jacob, it would be day's before hearing anything back. We didn't know if/when someone would be showing up at the house on Monday morning. We didn't know when all the finish work would get done. Basically, left us with a lot of uncertainty and frustration. Even as recently as a week ago when we tried to run speaker wire through the "piping" that Jacob installed in the walls for our theater system, we couldn't do it because the wire would get jammed in the pipe. Sent Jacob a message to come back and look at it, fix it, and haven't heard a word back. Not even to say he got our message and would try to find time within the next week to stop by. Nothing! Bottom line is this, if want a toilet, sink, or some small job done that doesn't need any detailed finish work, Jacob is your guy. When he's on site he's nice, professional, has a good sense of humor, and his price is fair. If you're looking to do a significant job that needs attention to detail, quality assurance, lots of management oversight and interaction with you, the client, look elsewhere. UPDATED 4/18: I have updated my rating based on a follow up from the owner of Done To Spec, Ryan. Ryan contacted me recently and asked about the job that was done at our house. Specifically, what needed to be done to correct some of the things that didn't meet our expectations. He was very professional and listened without questioning or challenging our comments. After our conversation, Ryan scheduled time to personally come back and fix the things that were on our list. I believe this shows a genuine concern towards customer satisfaction. Albeit, it was almost a year later, the point is that he made the effort, and for that, I think it justifies an update from my original original posting. Thank you Ryan for making good on the work you did. We'll certainly consider Done to Spec for any future jobs we need to have done to the house. read more

We had three bids to repair a small mailbox shelter in our neighborhood and Done to Spec came in average in price. The job was expected to take 2 or 3 days. After working on it for only one day we were told the written estimate would no longer apply because the job was more difficult than they'd anticipated, so the new price would be nearly 50% higher. A slight increase under certain situations is acceptable, but jacking up the price so dramatically is absurd. There was no choice but to tell them not to complete the job as originally planned. A two star as opposed to one star review is because the one person actually doing the work seemed to care about doing a quality job. But we would've been better off going with the most expensive contractor, in order to have the job fully completed at the agreed upon bid. read more

Ryan and Jacob have done so many perfect jobs for my new home. There was always a lot of communication on details so I was confident that they knew what I wanted. They kept me updated with the status and plans of the job so I was fully aware and prepared of the progress along the way. All jobs were nicely done. Whenever I had a request or question they always answered quickly and professionally. Done to Spec had helped me repaint the interior of house, replace garage doors, fix and install exterior lights, timers, skylights and arbor roofing. I am very satisfied with the quality of they works. They would continue to be the first one I called when I have any trouble with my house, and I would definitely recommend this company if anyone needed a handyman service. read more

Well I can tell you that we had an entirely different experience with Done to Spec. Jacob is very professional and knowledgeable, I would not hesitate to hire him again in the future cause I know he does excellent work. We had to fix up an old hot tub room and try to turn it into a bedroom when we were trying to sell our home. Jacob discovered significant water damage to some floor joists and along the outside wall. This work was not in the original quote and budget but Jacob worked with us so it didn't add a significant amount of money to the job, plus he did an excellent job of repairing the damage. He was very flexible and accomodating to our modifications and requests...he was very clever in finding a way to reuse a window in that room that saved us a good deal of money. We are very happy with the end result and will continue to us Done to Spec whenever we need work done in the future. read more

Done to Spec did a fantastic job for us. I needed some basic handyman jobs done and their bid was extremely reasonable for the jobs I needed done. They were prompt and did great work. I just needed electrical plug replaced, picture hung and hand rail made. They were flexible to what I needed that day. They worked well with my elderly parents. I had to get a 110 electrical outlet for my gas range, I live in Sammamish so thought it would be good to get work done from a local company. I got in touch with Ryan and he provided a quote that "Our rate for this type of work is $85/hr. with a $25 trip fee, plus material and disposal fees (if any)". I decided it was a fair price and wanted to get this done so I went ahead. The contractor came in at 8 am and was done by 9:15 am while the contractor was leaving I asked for invoice and I was told that I would get it later from Ryan after he calls to check for satisfaction. I figured it would be priced at 1:15 hrs of labor and parts. To my surprise when I got the final invoice it said 2 hrs of labor and parts! On further inquiry I was told it was 1:45 mins of work, 15 min on the store for the parts and then parts itself. While I ended up paying the full amount it seems that this lack of transparency seems a regular practice after reading some other reviews. I wish I would have read these reviews before as this company clearly lacks transparency. I would add though that the work was done properly so no complains on that end. read more
