We needed some tree trimming and dead wood removed in our front and backyard. After receiving a few quotes from some local and large tree service companies, we ended up selecting Donegan's. The main reason for that was how impressed we were with Michael, who was the only real arborist that came to check out our trees before the offer. Most of the others presented themselves as arborists, but judging by their advice we don't really think so. Michael actually refused to do what we initially asked him to do - he educated us on the health of our trees and did not want to harm them by over-cutting just to make them look good. He thoroughly examined each and every one of them, explained to us their current health, and suggested alternatives that would satisfy our needs but minimize the harm to our trees. We strive to practice sustainable lifestyle, minimizing our footprint on the environment, and adjusting as much as possible to the natural needs of the flora and fauna in our mini ecosystem, so Michael's advice was really valuable to us! The rest of our experience just continued with this exceptional level of service: the quote was fair and very reasonable, scheduling after our quick online approval was prompt, the follow up letter with Nancy from admin had details of the schedule and payment process (no down payment was required from us - another exception!!!). The crew was very punctual (in fact we weren't ready for them since you never expect a contractor to be on time). The work was done professionally, taking great care not to damage any other plants which are abundant in our back garden around the trees, consulting with us when needed, and cleaning everything perfectly after. Called on Tuesday to inquire about getting a large "falling" dead oak taken down as it was only being held up by branches of other trees. If those branches didn't hold it was going to land on the bedroom end of our house. I received a quote by lunch time and was able to sleep soundly last night as Donegan's had it removed on Wednesday morning. We have been looking at doing some tree work in our new house, and had spoken to a couple of different companies. We found that Donegans was the most knowledgeable and informative of the options we had. Had Jim come out to look at removing a couple stumps, a large maple and doing some light pruning on three other trees. He was on time, knowledgable, and gave his expert arborist opinion on all of the items on my list. He then promised an estimate within 24 hours. The estimate was emailed, price was fair and I booked a date. The morning of, Jim's son and his crew came on time and were incredibly professional. They also had to deal with taking down a tall maple with a house on each side, a Verizon line in the middle and a deck on the other side - they were exact in their work! Jim Donegan is an outstanding arborist and a professional in every sense of the word. When we did the first survey of the trees on my property (2 acres), Jim was very insightful of the varieties of species, their needs for development and maintenance, and their overall health. I found his background knowledge of his field most impressive. He was able to survey the entire plot and discern its past landscape and how the yard could be transformed. Jim has such a trained eye that he was able to spot field debris that to a novice such as myself was invisible. In so doing, he was able to provide me a more thorough estimate, which took into consideration the rusted wire fencing and other yard waste. He was even able to trace the wire fence in some locations to where it grew into the more mature trees. The crew that serviced my property were professional and did an excellent job. They correctly identified those trees that needed to be removed and the underbrush that needed to be cleared. They were prompt, thorough, and took extra care not to disturb any of the nearby healthy trees that did not require maintenance. I was impressed by their work and the thoroughness of the survey, the assessment, and the plans for ongoing maintenance. The whole area came to life, just in time for Spring! 3 Days ago we had a very windy day with sustained high winds and gusts. I have a large tree in my front yard between my house and my neighbor's fence that was splitting down the middle, popping and cracking, and was in danger of breaking either direction on either my home or the fence. This was late on a Friday afternoon, and I looked online for a local tree service, called a couple of places, and did not get a call back from anyone until I called Donegan's Tree Service. Although they had received a lot of calls that day, Jim Donegan himself not only answered the call, but was here the next morning (Saturday) at 8:00 am to assess the situation. He sent his crew out this morning (Monday), and they took the tree down, cleaned up the area, and hauled the wood away. They are also going to take care of the large stump, and handled calling Miss Utility to make sure no underground lines get damaged. I can't say enough about the responsiveness and professionalism of this company. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for tree maintenance, stump removal, or handling an emergency tree situation as I had. We're new to the area and recently bought a house with a front and back yard with tall trees. Not only that our trees were getting too tall, some of them were also touching our house and the neighbor's house. Jim came out quickly for our request to do an estimate. He was very knowledgeable and honest. He didn't try to upsell and only recommended services that were absolutely necessary for our trees. Unlike many other tree service companies that we called for estimates, many recommended as far as removing some of our trees and replacing with new ones with a reason that the trees were dying. Jim's price was reasonable and the crew did an excellent work - they arrived promptly, were very professional and left the work area so clean as if they were never there. This was done in December 2017. Our trees still look great and strong. And thanks to Jim & crew, they also survived the wind storm (not even a broken branch!) that happened in March 2018.
