You'll see others mention a similar story as well. 5 years ago, I came in after moving to Boston…read morefor a routine cleaning. They told me I needed 9 cavities filled. I have only had 1 cavity ever in my life and my last dentist had never mention anything about a cavity. I took this as a red flag and went to another dentist and there was no mention of any cavities. Just switched dentists again after moving and there have also been no mention of any cavities in the 5 years since I have gone here and 12 years leading into when I first came here. These people are dishonest and just trying to sell you on additional unneeded dentistry work. Avoid.

Let me begin by saying that I am someone who does not really like change. I was originally a…read morepatient of Dr. Goldstone, who was wonderful and had many admirable qualities, especially compassion. After he left, I continued going to Cambridgeside Dental Associates and became a patient of Dr. Khalil. I remained Dr. Khalil's patient for decades and, during that time, had several root canals. I always trusted the practice until I began receiving treatment estimates ranging from $8,000 to $10,000. I complained about a back tooth that had already had a root canal, and Dr. Khalil informed me that I needed another one. For years, I had been saving money to improve the appearance of my front tooth, and once again I was told that I would most likely need root canals on my front teeth as well. At that point, I decided to seek a second opinion from another dentist. I was told there was nothing wrong with my back tooth. I have since had my front teeth treated, and they look great -- without needing any root canals. The cost was about one-third (or less) of the original estimate. Additionally, it was discovered that I had an infection that required surgery and had never been identified. I ultimately had to see an oral surgeon for proper treatment. I would also like to mention that there seems to be frequent turnover among the hygienists and front desk staff. Over the years, I met many different hygienists, and the office staff has changed repeatedly, which I find concerning. I do not typically leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience so that others will consider seeking a second opinion when presented with treatment plans costing many thousands of dollars.

He never asked about what had happened or what I had been told by the office, but just seemed focused on money (as another yelp review states below) and stated that my insurance was "weird" and "difficult" and that they had "lost money" on my like 3-minute cavity check). You need to realize that the office is in a position of power and please be respectful to everyone. A few months I called and was told that they would check on a cavity as part of my next cleaning at no additional charge (because it would take 10 seconds) and they were nice enough to move up my appointment. When I showed up for my appointment, they said they didn't have time for a cleaning and they checked inside my mouth for about 4-6 seconds and said everything was fine. I confirmed before (over the phone and in person) that it would be complementary (because it would take 10 seconds). They then charged me and billed my insurance for a full exam. The reason for this review is that the office has been frustrating and very needlessly time-consuming to work with; in addition to the phone call, on at least 4 different occasions I was told something would happen (we will call you later today of by tomorrow; we will email you in the next few hours) and nothing was done. Emails weren't sent with names in the signature so I was never sure who I was emailing with. In the future, just say "We're sorry this happened. You were told it would be a cleaning but instead we made a mistake with the schedule and we apologize for this. Good news is at we were able to do a 15-second check on your cavity we installed, and because this was only 15 seconds and because you were misled into thinking that it would be a complementary part of a cleaning, we won't be charging you or your insurance for those 15 seconds." All the dentists and orthodontists I had growing up, would check on a cavity that they installed for free if it took 5-10 seconds. If they saw something that looked more alarming we would go from there and possibly book a longer exam in the future. I may delete this review in the future, and wish everyone the best with no hard feelings. Goodbye.

Ms. Debbie at the front desk, and Ms. Laura with the x-rays, have been so helpful. There has been drama with my old dentist (Advanced Dental Care--beware!), and then with my insurance, and they've been troopers in resolving it. The practice itself is very small (one room) but still feels very friendly; it's also very clean, and it's clear that Dr. Sandy takes all of the decisions she makes regarding the patient experience very seriously, right down to the taste of the flouride (I'm not kidding). The actual visit was very efficient but very thorough. X-rays were painless, I got the best cleaning of my life, plus a yummy flouride polish, new toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste. Dr. Sandy wasn't pushy about my poor flossing habits, but did take time to explain the reasons behind plaque deposits, scientifically, which I really appreciated. She's jovial, she's warm, and she's engaged with her patients--that is very, very clear. I mean, when a woman with an M.D. introduces herself as "Dr. Sandy," it's pretty evident that you're not just a number. They're only open 3 days a week BUT they have an emergency line that you can call anytime you're in pain or having concerns, which is an amazing service and business model imho. Bonus: proper bike parking right outside. :D :D :D

In those cities, I have always sought the best dental care available. Dr. Stein has been by far the best dentist I have ever visited. Overall my smile is gorgeous, but I have always had a problem with chronic grinding. Bite guards have helped, but there was some residual jaw pain that seemed I just needed to live with - despite such wonderful prior dental care. However, within the first 30 minutes of meeting Dr. Stein, he performed some magic. Using either an optical scanner or CAD/CAM, he made 3-d renditions of my teeth and running a few tests, he made an adjustment that relieved pain that had been plaguing me for over 10 years. Furthermore, I needed my first crown. Whereas some dental offices take weeks to do crowns, Dr. Stein made a model and completed the total process in 3 hours. The work done was exquisite. What really made me feel so deeply grateful for him, though, was how he responded when I needed help. Around the same time as getting the crown, I needed to have major surgery. When you have major surgery your whole immune system goes into overdrive, and for this reason, the recent crown started to cause me some pain. I reached out to Dr. Stein, and he almost immediately responded from his personal cell phone. This was midday on the weekend. He took a considerable amount of time evaluating what was going on to assess the right treatment. To be safe, I was put on antibiotics. He went on to tell me if I had any other issues to call him. My friend, who was helping me in my recovery, was able to pick them up within the next few hours. I could not have asked for someone to be more responsive, more kind, more patient, or more professional. He followed up with me later that week. It was one of those moments where you realize how lucky you are, and I realize how grateful I was to have chosen to try Dr. Stein since moving to Boston. His offices were clean, with thorough PPE and cleaning that was reassuring. I truly cannot recommend him more.
