I've been coming here for several years and every-time I'm treated very well. Dr. Chang and her team are extremely kind hearted people, they are not only great professionals but they make you feel comfortable and at ease. They pay attention to details and they truly care about their patients. I really can't recommend them enough. I never liked going to the dentist before (actually who does? lol) but Dr. Chang definitely changed my experience and every-time I have a cleaning or a procedure scheduled, I'm happy to see them there and rest as I know I'm in good hands. read more

I just had Dr. Chang fit me for Invisalign. The process involved just a few appointments. One appointment resulted in a digital display of my teeth that showed the corrective action and what the end result will look like. The second appointment was the actual fitting of my mold. I can tell Dr Chang really enjoys what she does by her continuous positive disposition and it's evident with the rest of her staff. So, if you're looking for a great alternative to braces Invisalign is the way to go. As a side note, another added benefit of Invisalign (other then the teeth straightening) is it has substantially decreased my daily snacking habit. Since I'm aware that each time I eat, I'll need to brush and floss before placing my depression back in my mouth. This slightly tedious task has consciously minimized the number of times I eat in a day. read more

Even though we've moved a few towns away we still come back to Smiles. I really enjoy everyone there and just haven't ever had a better dentist group really. As a new patient, I heard about Smiles over Somerville via Yelp which gave glowing reviews for this practice. From arrival, to paperwork, to x-rays all was well and amiable until an issues of scheduling occurred. Apparently, I had taken too much time in filling out the ~12 pages of paperwork and was notified via an employee in an unprofessional manner. Rather than discuss the issue among themselves privately and then present me with a solution, I was informed via an assistant bursting into the room, making a fuss over the next patient who was due to arrive all peppered with confrontation and awkwardness. In the muddle of confusion a solution was formed which was to move me into another room and for me to forgo my routine cleaning. Considering that Smiles over Somerville didn't have the time to complete my cleaning I can only assume then that they do not have time for my business. While I am sure that this practice is as professional and warm as other reviews claim them to be, that unfortunately was not my experience and I will be taking my business to a practice that will make time for their patients. read more

I have not been to the dentist in over 10 years (surprisingly my teeth were not rotting out of my head) and Dr. Chang was the first dentist I have seen. The location near Magoon Square in Somerville is great. There were plenty of free street parking spaces. I was able to get an appointment later in the day so that I wouldn't have to miss much work and was taken on time. First impressions are always important to me. Dr. Chang made me feel extremely comfortable and was very gentle. I already made a follow up appointment and would recommend her to anyone looking for a Dentist. Lastly...Dr. Chang has the best teeth I have ever seen. read more

Likely the practice isnt popular and the owner (Dr. Chang) is trying to extract blood from each patient, including kids. The practice 'made an honest mistake' and charged me more for my very first visit. Then the insurance company send me a letter with breakdown. I had to take it to the receptionist and she was rather unhappy to correct the mistake. Dr. Chang also misdiagnosed our pre-schooler with a cavity and insisted on X-rays. We got a second opinion without the need for radiation and it seemed no cavity was present. Beware as Dr. Chang wants to do X-rays even for teeth cleaning. In addition, the front desk staff is rather unprofessional. They hung up on certain insurance providers. read more

My first appointment in what was probably years, was with Dr. Chang. I am so lucky to have landed in her office. I somehow managed to lose a chunk of a molar eating a cinnabun. I know... How cliché. A pricey crown procedure in the pipeline, I had just received my insurance that day, and I didn't realize how lucky I was. Not just the fact I had insurance.. But that I was in the care of the best dentists around. Every appointment I have here, I never fail to get laughing, or make someone else laugh. It's such a great office, and I always look forward to going there again. Just my luck, I just picked up insurance and my dental coverage is accepted by her office. My next appointment is scheduled, and again, I'm sooo thankful. I always was super scared to see dentist, but after I saw the Dr Chang that is not more like this, she is super sweet, kind, patient and considerate, also I was smoker for 15 years and after the appointments with her I quit the cigarette; and now I have 10 months fee of tobacco in my life, I fully recommend her as a doctor ahhh and her playlist of music is fantastic! read more

I just moved to somerville and no one I knew liked their dentist so I went to yelp to find someone in my area (duh). I found Dr. Chang and decided to give her office a try after reading all about her through her happy patients. I immediately had a great experience with the receptionist, Beatriz, who went through many lengths to find an appointment for me. She called me back a few times with cancellations and letting me know what my policy covered at their office. The office is small but everyone is very friendly. I had a very good cleaning, very thorough x-rays and they even measured my gums? Didn't know dentists even did that! Then I learned I needed some cavities filled and they fit me in the next day. For the fillings, she was great. We were laughing the whole time because she made me feel very relaxed after letting her know I'm deathly afraid of needles! This place is great, I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a straight forward, efficient and gentle dentist. read more

We found Dr. Chang when we lived in Somerville. We always loved the environment: the doctor and her staff are warm, caring, and professional. When we moved out of the area, we decided to find a new dentist. Big mistake! Within a year, we returned to Dr. Chang, even though we have to drive close to an hour each way to see her. I'm finally back on the dental wagon, thanks to Dr Chang. I had not seen a dentist in years and thus developed a ridiculously severe dental phobia. Somehow, I managed to schedule a consult and cleaning. My doctor gave me a couple anti-anxiety pills to help me get through the exam, but I still panicked and started crying as soon as I checked in. I looked like a total lunatic, but Dr Chang was awesome about everything. Both her and the hygienist were exceptionally patient and accommodating. We discussed my concerns before the exam started, which helped me calm down. Dr Chang and the hygienist were very gentle and explained each step of the exam to me as they worked. Thankfully, my teeth don't need any major work and I've already made a follow up appointment. I am so glad I found this office, and am very thankful to Dr Chang, for helping me get my oral health back on track! read more

Thorough and friendly. Dr. Chang and her staff seem determined to do an excellent job. They were all kind and explained what they were doing. Kudos to Dr. Chang for sharing her enthusiasm for the final Harry Potter due out in mid-July. I went in for a check-up and to have four fillings thanks to one cavity and a receding gum line along three teeth. Never have 2+ hours at the dentist been more relaxing. I nodded off twice while the fillings were being taken care of. The prices seem in line with what I've seen elsewhere - if not slightly cheaper - and I didn't get the sense that they were looking for an excuse to do work (I knew I may have needed the fillings). If anything, they struck me as watchful waiting types, which I personally appreciate in a doctor ("Don't just do something, stand there!") I'm not awarding five stars yet because this is my first visit and I was actually excited to go to the dentist and see what needed to be done (weird, I know). However, when I return in December, I'm sure I'll give Dr. Chang and her staff a fifth star. Now, if only my mouth would un-numb more quickly so I can show my gorgeous smile to the world! read more

I've been going to Dr. Chang for three years now and couldn't be happier. Even after moving to a different town I continue to drive back to Somerville for my dentist appointments! The office location is a little dodgy (it's inside an older apartment building) but once you're inside the suite everything is very clean and nice. Dr. Chang is incredibly personable and talks to you like a real human. And her work is excellent. She's done two fillings for me and fitted me with a night guard. Everything was done perfectly and I've had no issues. Her staff are all friendly and diligent. I highly recommend! read more

I could not speak more highly of a dentist! Dr. Chang has done only excellent work on my teeth in the past 5 years. I am always comfortable and painless when in her office. She explains everything that she is doing during a procedure and makes sure that I understands the options available when I needed a root canal. Her hygienist, technician and office staff are excellent and very personable. To top it off, a month ago, I had a crown fall off and Dr. Chang noticed an unusual pinhole had developed. To my surprise, she was able to get the crown manufacturer to issue a new crown for FREE and she completely waived the cost of her time creating a new cap and crown mold. She truly is one of a kind! I cannot thank her enough for that kind gesture and for also taking such good care of me these past 5 years. read more

Dental work by default can be a bucket of not-fun. That said, Smiles over Somerville has officially changed my opinion by over and above exceeding my expectations for dental care. Dr Chang and her staff have been nothing but extremely kind, accommodating, and professional for both my wife and I. Prior to coming here, I had gone a number of years that I'm not proud admitting without seeing a dentist. Now that I have these folks as a resource, that streak is over. I went to Smiles over Somerville because I thought I may had chipped a tooth. When I called to make an appointment I was told I can come in for a quick checkup (I really just wanted to know whether or not I'd chipped the tooth). When I went to my appointment, though, the story changed: they can only see me if I get their $95 checkup + cleaning special package. ugh, fine, whatever ... i mean i'm pretty pissed at the bait and switch, but let's say maybe it was a misunderstanding. that's not the reason I came here a three months later to give them a one star review. the reason i did so was, in reviewing my credit card statements, I noticed a double charge from Smiles over Somerville. I was charged $95 twice! of course, since i happened to notice, I'll be getting my money back from my c.c. company, but that doesn't excuse their utter incompetence or malevolence. read more

SUBSTANTIALLY better experience than at my last dentist. I went to see Dr. Chang at the advice of a friend, and I was happy to not leave in tears. She did however confirm that I had several cavities that needed to be filled. I scheduled a follow up to have them filled. the appointment was long and she kept having to leave to see other clients, which I can understand from an efficiency stand point. If a hygienist can clean and she can do a check up, all while I'm having work done, that's fine. I continued to have excruciating tooth pain for the next 2 weeks, and as it's the holidays, I didn't have time to schedule follow up. When I finally did, the receptionist scheduled me for same day appointment. I know they were squeezing me in, but I did have to wait almost an hour in the waiting room, and no one said anything to me about this for 45 mins (despite the fact that I explained hesitance to come in that day after working the overnight shift). I was tired from not sleeping and hungry from not being able to eat, and by the time I got back to the chair i realized that my face was leaking! Damn you exhaustion and hunger. the dental assistant was so so so kind to me. I'm not a hugger but I almost hugged her. She remembered that I'm an ICU nurse and let me unload my holiday stress and gave me a ton of tissues. then Dr. Chang came and adjusted my fillings. 3 days later I still have some pain with chewing. it's better but still not comfortable and still a deterrent from solid foods, but I was told to wait a week before scheduling another appointment. Either way, despite the general unpleasantness of going to the dentist, my experience with Dr. Chang and her practice has been really pleasant. read more

Dr. Chang is great. She spends tons of time with me each time I go, and doesn't yell at me when I don't floss. Today I had tooth pain and went in to get it checked out -- Dr. Chang took x-rays and spent 20 minutes with me. It turned out to be nothing, but she didn't charge me. Dr. Chang and her staff are extremely thorough, friendly, and go out of their way to make sure that you're comfortable. I would (and do) HIGHLY recommend her to everyone I know. Smiles over Somerville happens to be 1.5 blocks from my house, so when I needed to find a new dentist, they were the obvious choice. From start to finish my first visit was pretty great. It took more than a month to get an appointment for a cleaning and then when I have to reschedule it took another month. This is partly because they only do cleanings two days a week and partly because my schedule is tricky. The hygienist who did my cleaning, Lisa, was efficient and gentle. She always kept me informed about what she was doing. They have digital xrays which was kind of cool to see. Dr. Chang came in to check out my teeth at the end. She's very professional and courteous. It was 6pm at that point so she said she'd let me know and email me in the morning after she'd gone over my xrays. I have full dental insurance, so I'm not sure what the prices are here, but the service is great. read more

After a dentist that was brutal and one that tried to sell me procedures I didn't need, I was very pleased to finally find one that I love: Dr. Chang. She has a way of making you feel completely relaxed and comfortable. She's very thorough in her work, extremely gentle, and takes great care to get the job done right without causing pain. Dr. Chang takes care of my whole family, including my wife and two young daughters. It's great to have a family dentist the kids are not afraid to go and see, and in fact look forward to seeing. We have to travel a bit to get to her office in Somerville, but the schlep is well worth it given the fantastic overall experience. I strongly recommend her to anybody, especially families with young children. read more
