I've been going to Dr. Walker for over 13 years. He was able to solve a problem that my previous dentist had totally fumbled, and Dr. Walker did it gracefully. He also has a very dry sense of humor - which I find endearing. I loved Erin, his previous hygienist, and now I see Stephanie, and both of them are gentle and kind. The hygienist was absolutely wonderful, very good at her job and very friendly and welcoming. The dentist himself was incredibly rude and seemed like he didn't want to be there at all. He didn't try to shake my hand, whenever he said anything he was either scowling or sounded angry, and after recommending a fairly major procedure didn't ask if I had any questions. It was honestly unpleasant being around him, which is a shame because the hygienist was so lovely. Their website and paperwork is also frustrating and the receptionist was not very helpful. read more

I was recommended a procedure that was non needed to extract the most of my insurance. After a second opinion it was clear that the "deep cleaning" was not needed at all. As a result, my insurance (a premium dental insurance, not a cheap one) did not allow the reimbursement. This is a common trick from dentist to charge 1000$ for a cleaning and 1 filling. The secretary wrote back to me saying the following: "do you even understand what we are trying to do here". This caused a 1 month delay in a very simple procedure. read more

This is the WORST dentist I have ever been to in my life! Dr. Walker was extremely unprofessional and careless in how he treated my teeth and mouth. When doing a filling, he let the drill fall against my tongue, and then blamed me for it! He said: "You put your tongue in your tooth. You shouldn't do that." (I had my tongue nowhere near the tooth) It was still hurting me, and he saw my expression so he said, "it's not even bleeding." He was extremely careless about how he sprayed water in my mouth; it got all over the sides of my face. He seemed to just shove the various equipment and tubes into and out of my mouth, completely carelessly. He seemed in a hurry, always saying "we're almost done," in a way that seemed he just wanted to get this over with. If you love your teeth (remember you only get one pair!) definitely DO NOT GO TO DR. WALKER! read more

While the dental work is fine (much like any other dentist) the billing and insurance process is frustrating to say the least. I specifically asked if x-rays and the cleaning was covered because my insurance had changed and was assured it was 100%. I was still with Delta Dental (like my previous checkups) so I figured it was fine. A month later I was sent a bill that totaled more than my premiums for the insurance for the past year. Turns out my Walker dental was not covered and because of that I as paying the vast majority of the $200+ bill for a routine checkup. If you're not sure if someone is covered don't assure them it is only to charge them later. I know there are cheaper options nearby and I plan to find them. read more

Dr. Walker used to be my dentist and I thought he was awesome. The only reason I switched dentists was because I have some health issues that make it a little risky to undergo procedures requiring anesthesia, so I had to find a dentist in a hospital/medical office in case I ran into any problems. My dumbass health aside, Dr. Walker is great. The office is charming and clean, there is an LCD television hovering over the dentist's chair so you can trying to distract yourself with whatever is on, and I adore his receptionist, who was always very friendly, affable, funny, and just all around awesome. Plus they were always good about fitting me in for an emergency appointment. He has great bedside/chairside manner, and kept my teeth clean and happy for years. read more

My mouth is a serious mess. Let's start with that. I recently started working in Harvard Square and had been thinking I needed to get a new dentist, but it wasn't until my temporary crown fell out for the 6th time that I decided to pick co-workers' brains. Dr. Walker came highly recommended by several people. I was amazed at how easy it was to set up a same-day appointment, be greeted with such warmth, treated immediately to a comfy leather lounger/dentists chair, and have HGTV in my direct line of vision. Dr. Walker is very friendly, approachable, and, most importantly, knows what he's doing, and is happy to explain everything. I had a VERY positive experience, and am looking forward to going back! I've been to Dr. Walker's office twice now. The first visit was for a regular cleaning, which was fantastic. My hygienist (Katie? I'm not sure what her name was) was AWESOME--funny, informative, honest. Walker Dental has digital x-rays, which may seem standard to some people but which was brand new to me! I was so happy to have had such an easy experience after all those years of horrible gag-inducing x-rays! Plus with the digital ones, you can see the results immediately and there's no risk (no lead apron needed, although she put it on because most patients ask for it out of habit!). They also have a spiffy 360 x-ray machine that shows your wisdom teeth, if you have any. The hygienist explained everything she was looking at in my x-rays in minute detail to me, which was both interesting and helpful. Like I said, getting my teeth cleaned was great, and the receptionist, Danielle, is FANTASTIC. She is so sweet and understanding! I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of Dr. Walker himself. He's a nice guy and he's really chill, but I think perhaps he's a bit TOO chill and a bit presumptuous, in that he assumed I knew all kinds of things and made me go out of my way to ask questions (or, when I forgot, to Google things at home later)! I liked him at first, when he didn't recommend that I get my wisdom teeth taken out unless I absolutely needed to, which I don't. I liked that--no surgery for me unless it's 100% necessary, thank you! And I hate those dentists who just recommend it no matter what. He was nice and friendly enough, and I didn't think twice about it. But my second visit was for a cavity filling. It was my FIRST ever cavity, so I was nervous as all get out and had no idea what to expect. He didn't tell me ANYthing preceding the appointment, and I had to call and email a number of times just to get him to tell me some basics, like what to expect if A happens or what to expect if B happens. Then, after the actual filling (which turned out to be painless), he didn't tell me if I could eat, drink, brush my teeth, etc. I had to look it up online to find out what kind of filling I'd gotten (I was able to figure out that I'd gotten a white composite filling because he used a blue light) and therefore to figure out what I was allowed to do! I would like to say, though, that during the actual filling, Dr. Walker was great. He told me step by step what he was doing, reassured me every few minutes because I was nervous, and seemed very sure of himself (which is a good thing when someone is drilling into your tooth!). Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Walker Dental. I would definitely recommend them, especially given the horror stories I've heard elsewhere. Be prepared to ask your own questions if you want information out of the dentist himself, but everything else about this place was great. Also, as a side note, if you recommend a friend, they give you a $50 credit-- a nice bonus! You can use it toward toothbrushes, teeth whitening stuff, or bills. read more

I'm basically echoing what everyone else has said - but can't say enough good things about Walker Dental (at least as many good things as you can say about a dentist visit!). Everyone is indeed super friendly and my teeth feel clean as a whistle afterward. Another thing I was happy about was the last time I went I was due for some new x-rays, and they had just gotten a new machine that gives off less radiation - big plus! Had a filling break after moving to Cambridge. They got me in very quickly and fixed the problem. Ended up having to get the whole procedure redone because a cavity was what caused the filling to come loose. I've never had a dentist be so meticulous when doing a filling. I was a patient at Walker Dental for 2 1/2 years and had a great experience my entire time under Dr. Walker and Erin's care. When I first started seeing Dr. Walker, I had concerns about one of my front teeth as it had lowered a bit post braces. Dr Walker did a great job with assessing the situation, taking x-rays and reviewing my history. I did see an endodontist per his recommendation and he confirmed what Dr. Walker suggested for course of treatment. Dr. Walker's bedside manner was amazing too, listening carefully to my questions and any concerns, formulating a treatment plan we were both happy about. In addition, Erin is an amazing hygienist. I received what sounded like a reasonable quote based on their service cost and their review of my insurance coverage. Later I get a bill for double the amount I was quoted because apparently the office charged that much much more than maximum coverable charge by Delta Dental. No mention was made of this--and it can't be the first time this has happened. I feel cheated and will not be returning. It has also been a struggle to get someone to answer the phone in the afternoon during posted business hours even an hour before closing. read more

I am bummed to have to review Dr. Walker so badly because the experience itself was quite nice. But I am now embroiled in an insurance claim problem with his office that has been going on for over a year and a half. The office has kept billing me for the one time I went there for a cleaning. When I call my insurance company to find out why they won't process the claim, they tell me nothing has ever been filed. Four times now I get the bill, I call and speak with the unfailingly polite secretary who promises to take care of it. A few months later, I get another bill. I ended up having to write an angry letter, which *finally* prompted them to file the claim. My insurance company is now refusing to pay, saying the claim was filed too late! That's a whole other issue, obviously, but I am extremely disappointed at this overt lack of administrative professionalism that could have been resolved so easily. So I feel obliged to warn others away from this dentist, so they don't have to go through the same medical billing boondoggle that I have. You cannot expect to be taken care of properly here. read more

I went for a cleaning today. Everyone was friendly, the service was fast, and the office was clean and relaxing. Perhaps I think so highly of my experience because my teeth are in good shape, but I have a feeling that even if I did have a cavity or some other problem, this would be a very good place to get it fixed. I hadn't seen a dentist in three years (I don't know how this happened) and a friend of mine suggested Walker Dental. What they say about Danielle, the office manager, is true -- she's very friendly. When I called, the only open appointment was a month away -- but she offered to email me if anything opened up, and about ten days later she actually did! That showed me that the office has good systems to keep patient information organized. I got there ten minutes late but no one seemed annoyed. Katie, the dental hygienist, was terrific. She didn't judge me for not having seen a dentist for three years. She treated me like a real person and was very knowledgeable -- she kept pointing out things she was seeing as she worked through the cleaning. She seemed to really care, and the cleaning was as comfortable as I guess a dental cleaning can be. Finally, the dentist came in for about a minute or two to look at the cavities Katie had found (there were a bunch, of course). I didn't interact with him so much, but he seemed nice enough. Both he and Katie told me to start using an electric toothbrush and a special high-fluoride toothpaste, and to brush three times a day rather than two. I'm actually starting to do this because they both seemed so insistent. Overall, I was really impressed with my experience there. Their customer service is really a step above -- you feel like you're a customer at a spa rather than at a dentist's office. read more

I was forced to get a root canal after Dr. Walker fitted me with an expensive porcelain crown which cracked after 1 year. He also insisted on filing down two of my teeth (which was NOT the reason I originally came in). I went to Walker Dental in 2015 because I had recently chipped a molar and wouldn't be able to get to my regular dentist for a few months. Dr. Walker encouraged me to get the expensive porcelain crown because he assured me it would last 10 - 15 years. Maybe it would have if he had done a better job fitting it to my tooth! I have just had to undergo a painful and expensive root canal on the tooth that Dr. Walker "fixed" because the crown he put in separated from my tooth and created an opening on the top of the tooth where bacteria could get in. Multiple dentists have looked at the tooth and told me what a BAD JOB Dr. Walker did with the porcelain crown. Recommendation: Don't go here for any dental work. Expensive and poorly done! read more

I've been going to this office for about two years now and I couldn't be happier with the service here. All the hygenists that I've seen have been very thorough and provide great tips for better oral hygeine. They're also just pushy enough to get you to do the things you should (ie flossing everyday) but not too pushy. They're also great at laying out your options and what they think is best for you while still allowing you to make unpressured decisions about your care. Dr. Walker runs a great practice! read more

I just moved to the area and needed to have a tooth out. I searched online for dentists in Cambridge and came across the Walker Dental site, looked at reviews and decided to give Dr. Walker a try. I was able to make an appointment for a few weeks later, which had never happened with any dentist before- usually I've had to wait at least a month or so. Dr. Walker's office is very nice, clean and cozy. All of the staff I have met have been very friendly and professional. I had never had a tooth out before, but I'm fairly certain that the process with Dr. Walker had to have been as quick, easy and painless as it can get. He was really nice, reassuring and knowledgeable. I felt like I was aware of all options possible and that he genuinely wanted whatever would be best for my teeth and my wallet. I will definitely be keeping Dr. Walker as my regular dentist. read more

I received an email from this company asking me to post a review on Yelp, so I thought, why not! The cleanings with the hygienist were fine and went well, so if you're just going for a cleaning, they are recommended for people who don't like their teeth to be jackhammered by an overzealous plaque hunter. However, they did put a sealant on one of my husband's molars and it promptly popped off two weeks later, so he did have to go get that redone. Not so bad, these things happen. The worst, however, was when I went to Dr. Walker asking for a consult for Invisalign. I was adamant in my specificity to Invisalign and so he referred me to an orthodontist with whom he's worked in the past. This orthodontist, Dr. Murthy, does NOT carry Invisalign and instead tried to rope me into a several-thousand-dollar, two-week-incapacitating elective surgery on my jaw. No thank you, my teeth are actually fine, this was purely cosmetic. I cringed at the thought of the gifts Dr. Walker would receive for referring a patient to Dr. Murthy, at my expense. Dr. Walker, if patients ask about Invisalign, please do not send them to an ortho who does not carry that procedure. Thank you. read more

Dr. Walker & staff (particulary his front desk assistant Danielle) are all so friendly! I've been seeing Dr. Walker for several years now & we have bi-yearly appointments. I feel as though he doesn't try to do anything that isn't absolutely necessary and is very informative if I have any questions. His dental assistants are also very professional. If you want to go to a all around great dentist go here. The ofice is extremely clean as well plus they send out personal e-mail reminders too, which is a nice touch! read more

Dr. Walker's been my dentist for over 13 years. My teeth are in pretty good shape, but over the years I've needed to have some old cracked fillings replaced and a couple of overlays done. I have some odd issue with getting numb on the right side of my mouth, but Dr. Walker has been unfailingly patient and calming when these episodes occur, and we eventually manage to get the work done even without my mouth being fully numb. As everyone else has mentioned, Danielle is great--warm, friendly, upbeat, on top of it. And she never gets mad when I call and tell her I need to reschedule, which I appreciate! And Katie's the best--she's thorough, really knows what she's doing, and always makes me feel that I'm doing a good job taking care of my teeth. I highly recommend Walker Dental--these dental professionals really know their stuff and are super nice to boot! I won't say I actually look forward to going there, but I don't dread it either, and for me that's about as good as it gets! read more

I LOVE THIS DENTAL OFFICE! Like most people, I absolutely dread going to the dentist. Unlike most people (I hope), I had a super shady dentist drill for a cavity and destroy several of my teeth, only to be later told by another dentist that there was no cavity and that my dentist had drilled simply so she could bill my insurance. Apparently she did this to numerous people and my new dentist was correcting alot of her work. I loved my new dentist, but had to move to Boston for school... Cut to four years later, and my tooth hurts. I head to Walker Dental and have an amazing cleaning with one of the dental hygenists, who left my teeth squeaky clean and was totally non-judgemental though it was obvious that she could tell that I wasn't flossing as often as I should be. But here's the kicker- they took x-rays, determined that I had a cavity, and scheduled a day for me to come in for a filling. I went in, dreading an afternoon of uncomfortable shots and drilling, but was pleasantly surprised when Dr Walker showed me my x-rays, said he couldn't be sure if what he was looking at was a cavity, took another set, and told me that he didn't feel comfortable drilling just yet. He told me to keep an eye on it and come back in if I felt any discomfort or pain in my tooth. Seriously- he could have been super shady and just drilled, but was ethical and thoughtful enough to admit that it might not be a cavity, though it meant less business for him. My tooth has been fine ever since, and I totally trust Dr Walker to not be a shady horrorshow like the first dentist I mentioned in this review. I've recommended this office to several friends and they all love it there too :-) read more

I have heard such wonderful things about walker dental so I feel bummed to have to give such a bad rating, unfortunately danielle who everyone spoke about in their reviews is no longer with this practice! I have called to make an appointment and had to leave 3 voicemails before getting a return call, to me this seems unacceptable. When I finally got an appointment a week and a half later dr. Walker rushed me in without really talking to me-worked on my now needed new crown-and rushed me out-not to mention I was in a crowded waiting room before I was seen by the dr. & I was not met by a welcoming receptionist, all to say the least. I definately would not recommend walker dental if you are looking for a warm and welcoming practice! read more

I have been going to Dr Walker for several years. As a 71 year old male, I have been to many dentists as I used to hate the experience. However Dr. Walker is the best dentist I have ever gone to. Extremely professional with a special caring for his patient. He is very thorough and in my case he even called me at home to see how I was doing. NO OTHER MEDICAL DR. Because I haven't had cavities or other dental issues, my interactions with Dr. Walker are minimal, but he has worked on my husband's teeth a number of times, including fillings and a crown. I had been going to Aspen Dental because of the convenience of multiple locations, it was my second or third time going for a cleaning and they told me that I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed as one of the wisdom teeth was impacting one of my back molars. They said that once the wisdom teeth were removed, they would need to perform a root canal on the molar that's being impacted. All in all this was going to cost thousands of dollars and they kept talking about how at my last appointment they had told me to get my wisdom teeth removed and now its my fault that I waited too long. It just seemed like they were more interested in taking my money then they were about my teeth, the fact that they said they'd need to perform a root canal on a tooth they couldn't even fully see yet because of the wisdom tooth being there seemed a little crazy, like they were jumping the gun. I was really overwhelmed and wanted a second opinion so I reached out to the dentist I went to as a child back in Maine to see if he had any recommendations for local dentists. He suggested Dr. Walker and said that another one of this former patients from my area who use to see him had moved to Boston and was going to Dr. Walker and really liked him. So I took the advice and went to Dr. Walker, he ended up telling me that I do need to get my wisdom teeth removed, but definitely agreed that it was way too early to tell if he'd need to perform a root canal on the one tooth being impacted, and that he would wait until the wisdom teeth were removed to fully examine the impacted molar to make a decision. I got the wisdom teeth removed and then last month went back to Dr. Walker to have him observe the impacted molar, and he ended up saying that the tooth is fine since I have no pain and we don't need to do anything with it except give it an annual x-ray once a year to monitor it. I was so happy, it was like a full circle moment, the reason I switched dentists was to get a second opinion on this from someone who is genuinely interested in your well being and not just taking money from you bank account. I would recommend Dr. Walker to anyone looking for a dentist in the area. read more

I personally love Dr.Walker and his employees. I have been going to Walker Dental for 12 years and it is amazing how this office feels so relaxing and stress free. You never see the crew in a hurry it is so nice to have a dentist that feels like he's your father. I have kids that see him and everytime they are there they look for the hidden treasure chest which is a toybox, and they also can recieve a glove balloon. They have a t.v. in every office so it is easy to relax when they are working on you. They give you flavors of toothpaste to choose from and your teeth feel great after a trip to his office. I love his staff and he has a new receptionist which I adore! Katie is also one of my favorites! I highly recomend Walker Dental for anyone with a phobia of dentistry.
