Buddy at Dons Lock and Key came out to the house for what we thought was going to make a new car key for the one my daughter had misplaced. Turned out her ex husband took her set of keys which includes her car and house keys. Buddy not only made her car key but rekeyed the entire house. Completely satisfied customer! Don's gave me a very fair quote for what was essentially changing one lock. Even though it was not an emergency, I received same day service- plus a call from dispatch when the locksmith was 10 minutes out. A very nice touch! When he arrived, Jesse was courteous, professional, and went above and beyond. Noticing that there were several things about my door that were not done correctly, he took the extra time to explain what was wrong and then fixed the problem, which had been driving me nuts for years. He only charged me for one small additional part and no extra labor, since he had to take it all apart anyway. That kind of ownership by a field employee is what earns my loyalty. It not only shows that the company owners put their customers ahead of earning very small additional profit, but that they create an employee environment where associates are trusted and empowered to do the right thing. I was very disappointed in this AAA-recommended service. I accidentally locked my house keys inside the house the other day, and called AAA for help. The tech that came to my house never introduced himself and wouldn't tell me his name when I asked. I got the distinct impression that he thought I was a stupid woman that locked myself out of my house (I hold two masters degrees, so I am far from ignorant). Then he charged me $100 for 30 seconds of work. If this ever happens to me again or if anyone ever asks, I would not recommend Don's Lock and Key. addendum: I see that other people have rated the service very highly. Perhaps it was the individual that came out to my house. Still, I expect to be treated with respect and dignity when in a very nerve-wracking situation, and I felt I was not. read more

I had bought a key online since it was significantly cheaper than paying for a key at a shop. I had called and they said they would be able to program it so I came it and the workers there had a gross attitude. The guy then said he would only be able to program the key to unlock and lock my car, but not start it. I would have to pay $200-$400 for a new key which is pretty ridiculous. It's kind of pathetic that a business that specializes in keys can't do something so simple. Turns out, I was literally able to do it myself. It was as easy as transferring my current transponder into the new key. Cost me absolutely nothing to do it myself, now I have a brand new key that unlocks, locks, and starts my car. BEWARE! It should be called DISHONEST DONS! Had them come out to change out a bad electronic lock on my safe. After he left I went to change the combo of the lock and too my surprise found my 6 BU uncirculated silver dollars missing worth about 2,000.00. I call up the tech. and of coarse he denied it. It was also easy to spot them missing because there were only 6 in the safe. So I called his shop and talked to Liz would said she will ask him about it. Hello! what do you think he said. I did not take them. To make the story worst he told me is services would be 500.00 but if I paid cash it would be 400.00. He was there 2 hours and the part was 50.00. Jesse from Don's Lock and Key miraculously repaired our 50-year-old Security door which had bowed in center over the years, preventing the lockset from operating correctly. We went through 3 locksets in 5 years because they all failed because of the bow in the center of the door. Jesse was helpful in explaining the problem and resourceful in getting the lock to work again. I recommend Jesse and Don's Lock And Key for any problems you might have with locks. He said that everyone thinks the lock is to blame but in most cases, it is the door. He was right! He did a great job, far beyond our expectations and the price was very reasonable for all his work. After 8:30 on a Saturday night after a 12 hour shift I locked my keys in my trunk. The trunk I manually locked from the outside AND locked the backseats because I work in a sketchy area. I needed a jump start and they sent TJ and he arrived earlier than expected. Really nice guy; I had one of those rough mornings where I couldn't find my keys and lost track of the time. Wow what amazing service! After hours and hours of searching for my car keys I had to admit that they had vanished and I was not getting them back. I drive by this place all the time so I figured I'd give them a call. The experiences started with the gentleman on the phone. Very nice guy, upfront and honest. He immediately told me the price range for the key and that it would be up to an hour and a half before they could get there. It's late at night and I expected a wait so I wasn't worried about it. They weren't even a minute late. They arrived well within their quoted time in a nice clean fully equipped van. I've been using Don't lock and key for rentals for a few years now. They always show up on time and do great work. Yesterday though they really helped us out. Our office door has been extremely difficult to lock for years. While re-keying the door for us, technician Buddy noticed how difficult getting it aligned was and fixed it without being asked. We can now get our door locked without jiggling and using both hands to turn the key. Everyone in our office is just thrilled with how it works now. We couldn't be happier. read more

Last Friday evening we left our locked house to drive to a restaurant before we discovered my husband and I both thought the other had the Fob for our vehicle. Unfortunately our house key was on the ring with our vehicle key and Fob-and it was locked inside our house!At least the weather was warm. I'd purchased a used Yakima cargo box for our SUV, which didn't come with any keys. I took the thing to the Don's Lock & Key storefront, on the corner of Indiana and Arlington. Within 30 minutes the locksmith there made 2 keys for the existing lock (not copying from an existing key) for a great price. I dinged them one star because I called the Saturday before, left a message, and didn't get a call back. Perhaps understandable because of my odd request & lack of urgency in the message, but still not the best over-the-phone experience. read more
