Don's Tree Service has been cutting/trimming trees for me for decades. We live up in the Kern River Valley and there are plenty of "tree trimmers" locally but I like and trust Don and his crew. They are always polite, do the job well, and clean up after themselves (usually leaving my yard cleaner than when they arrived). This group recently removed a HUGE mulberry tree from the middle of my back deck which was interfering with the septic tank. Tree removal involved dismantling the deck, grinding the huge stump, and chasing a root down around the septic, making certain it wouldn't regrow. It was a two-day job (up and down the Kern River Canyon) and it was done well and at a fair price. The crew was also kind enough to deliver the wood to a neighbor down the street who wanted it. We bought our home and realized that the surrounding California oak trees needed trimming.. A friend mentioned Donovan's. We called, made an appointment. They gave us an estimate and showed up when promised, the crew was excellent, answered all questions, cleaned up, left us with the requested mountain of wood chips that we used for mulch for several years -- it was great. They even added an unexpected bonus. We had purchased three smaller trees, but realized we had no truck for delivery. They picked them up. They planted them and did not add to the bill. Once again, Don and his son, Donovan, came to the rescue. Trimmed up our massive pine tree after another branch had dropped. They did an amazing job. The tree looks great and so much healthier. They also took into consideration our newly poured concrete driveway that was only 3 weeks old and used every precaution to keep the heavy trucks off of it. Rude and thoughtless I woke up one day to the sound of men in my back yard. No one had knocked on my door or asked to be let in. I have no idea how they did get in. Once I calmed the dogs down and put them in the house a man appears and announces "Hi I'm Don from Don's tree service." He then explains that AT&T has hired him to clear trees from where they want to put in new lines. He wanted to know if I'd unlock my gate so his men could take out the trimmings. He assured me that he'd tell me when they were done so I could then re-lock the gate and let the dogs out. I complied. I am disabled and my yard hasn't had a proper cleaning in years. As they took out the cut branches I half joked that they could take all they want of the other loose branches and stuff too. Don replied that AT&T wouldn't pay for that. I didn't think they would but some humans are kind and they were there already. A few armloads? But whatever. Later I looked in my backyard to find they had gone without so much as a knock on my door. Today I get a notice from the county that I have an excess of weeds in my backyard. Had a potentially dangerous situation with a large tree branch extending over a backyard structure. Cottonwood tree (they tend to grow fast and break). Branch was about 30 feet up and about the same length. Don moved his own schedule around to get the work done ASAP. And I asked if he could leave the chipped/shredded wood for me to use as mulch. Very unprofessional staff. They were doing my neighbors tree and completely blocked my driveway. They were upset that I had them move the branches so I could park. They left trash and water bottles I my yard. The tree doesn't look to be of arborist standards either. read more
