Bottom line Venables's Tree service killed our Pine Tree. After calling the 1st time about their trimming had damaged our tree and it was dying we were told it was an infestation that was killing it. It was GREEN prior to the sudden change in health. It was healthy and growing thats why we called for the trim. We had two separate aborist look at the tree and they both stated according to the trees condition and bark there was not an infestation. The tree was cut improperly and too much was taken off, especially done in a Bakersfield month of May. After hoping our tree would make a miracle comeback we decided to have it taken down. Attempted contact to Venables's regarding the matter fell on deaf ears. I would definitely not recommend. read more

I can't say enough good things about this company!! I mostly dealt with Monica who was incredible. She was there with me every step of the way when my 35 year old tree blew down during a storm. It was a week before thanksgiving and they were able to come out the next day to get it taken care of. I spoke to them at 5 pm the night before. Monica showed up with the crew and explained how everything was going to go. They were fast, professional with my yard and property. Monica then helped assist me with my insurance claim to make sure it was exactly what they needed so I could get my claim closed. It's stressful when life throws you a curveball but they truly made it all so much easier than I was anticipating. Quick responses, and everyone I dealt with or spoke to was very kind to me. We had crazy ivy growing up into nine mature trees a few months ago and they literally cleared it in less than an hour. I had an estimate by Monica to get 3 palm trees trimmed up and thought the price was reasonable. They came out within a week and did a fabulous job. I was very happy with their work. About a week later my gardener told me that the tree service had broken a sprinkler. I contacted Monica and they had it fixed within 3 days. I am very impressed with their customer service and willingness to come back and fix something that was accidentally damaged. I highly recommend them. I had a good experience with Venable's, from the office staff, to the estimator, to the tree trimming crew. Everyone was efficient and professional. I had them trim some Queen palms around my pool and remove 2 dead coastal redwoods from the backyard. They were careful with their equipment and cleaned up every bit of debris. I did have to call them back because they missed one of the trees, but they had no issue with coming back out to make it right. They were very professional, quick and clean with their work. A large older tree fell,40% on roof.I picked a tree service on line.....never heard or had contact with them before. Venables Tree Service. Within an hour Monica & Omar were @ my home with an estimate.We agreed on $$ and job to commence in 2 days,,,late afternoon. Today I get a message from Monica apologizing for having crew come out earlier than planned.WHAT!!!!! That's not the norm....I've dealt with other companies in the past where the call would say they're late/need more $$ and so on.I have to say what a great crew,Fast,neat & careful. This was a 2 thumbs up/5 star company. I will use them in the future, Oh, neighbors came by after to ask about the job they did as no sign of even saw dust was present, And I was told they paid much more $$$ for a less than good job. I had a very bad experience. They cancelled their first appointment on short notice. I had to call to get the arborist/sales guy to come out on the next appointment. He finally shows up. I go over some additional work with him, get a price, pay the total and go get ready for work. By the time I got out of the house, they were gone and had cut down a tree they were not supposed to touch. I called and told their office what happened. Monica was very nice and empathetic. She would have Shawn, the sales guy/arborist?, call me. He never calls. I call the office again after work and Shawn finally calls me back. He says, oh yeah they (meaning his crew) heard us talking and cut down the wrong tree. I'll buy you a new one if you want. No apology, no reason for not telling me and leaving, just, "I'll buy you a new one if you want." Horrible customer service and integrity. I won't use them again. I gave them one star because the guy that came out to give me the quote was nice and the crew were nice. Thats where it ends. I went over what needed to be done several times and when they were talking amongst themselves about the next job I went out and reminded them what was left. Next time I went out to check they were gone and the work was not complete and neither was the cleanup. I filled my green can four times with leaves and branches left behind. And the trimming job was not very good. I called the crew lead and he promised they would be back the next weekend to finish. Then he called back and asked if he could get payment to close out the week and again promised to come back that weekend to finish. Guess what....no show. I called him back a week later and he said he was standing there next to his boss and I would get a call from him to schedule the work. And still no call. read more

I had Venable's remove a very large, partially dead tree. It was in a bed next to the garage and was at least 30+ years old. They also removed 2 stumps and trimmed one palm. They coordinated with me on time because the stumps were next to a fence that had to be removed prior to their taking out the stumps. They were timely, had a crew large enough to do the job, and had the right equipment. There was a lot of clean up once they got the old tree down, but they took care of everything. They actually had to do more work than the original quote but only charged me what they quoted. I highly recommend them and will use them again if needed. read more

These guys were working in our neighborhood and walked around asking the neighbors if they needed services. We took them up on the offer because we hadn't called our normal tree service. Granted, they were really fast, but their work left a lot to be desired. They walked up the queen palms very roughly with the spikes and 7 months later, the queen palms still have wholes in them all the way up. The group we had before never left marks like that. We asked them to shave the mexican fan palms like they have been before and they did about 3 feet of them, but left the foot or two below it not shaved. This leaves a ring around the tree, like they didn't know what they were doing. Two huge branches on our silver dollars came down about 2 months after they were there and one of the big things we asked was for them to get into the trees and check to see if the branches were healthy--and take out the ones that weren't. Another huge (250 pound , 12 foot long branch) came down from a 40 foot tree that we were worried about about 3 months ago. Again, we specifically asked and they said all the ones left looked great. These things could kill someone falling, and we try to take care of them so they are in good shape. We will be going back to our old trimmers. And, price-wise, they were comparable. They gave us a quote, we told them that the place we usually use was about $400 cheaper and they gave us the same deal. But after our experiences, in this case, you get what you pay for. read more

DO NOT use this tree service!! The owner of the tree service quoted my husband $1,500 to take down the Oak tree next door. My husband was handling it for his friend who bought the property. He said that they would be out within a week to start and never showed up. My husband called and was told that they would be here in a few days. About another week later two guys showed up and started pruning the tree. The first thing that they did was bust the top of a slat out of the fence on our side of the yard from dropping a branch on it. Very shortly after that, they left and my husband called Venable to see why. He said that one of the guys had a hurt back. Well, my thinking is, if you have a hurt back, you don't go climbing in trees until your well!! About a week later Venable and his foreman showed up, and his foreman said that the tree should have been bid at $3,000. My hubby let him know that they have to stand on what was quoted and Venable agreed, PLUS, my husband said that they could have all of the Oak which was worth about $500. It was about two weeks before Venable and his foreman showed up again. This time the Foreman said that it should have been bid at $6,000. They are about the most wishy washy company that we have ever dealt with. About a week after that the crew finally showed up and got the tree down in two days. They were supposed to come back and clean up the brush and smaller limbs and never showed up. My husband called Venable and he said that he would have to get with "someone" and see what was going on. He didn't know anything. This tree was cut down a month ago, and last week a guy came to our door and asked if we could unlock the gate next door so they could clean up the mess. His clean up crew was supposed to be there that day. Never showed!! They call Venable Preacher. Of what I am wondering :-/? read more

We hired this company to trim trees and bushes as well as clean weeds in the flower beds. The man that came to give the estimate said they would do it all. However, when the worker came to do the work he only did the trees and bushes. When we spoke to the office, they said it was not written on the work order (that we never got a copy of) and that they never do weeds. They did show up on time and did the trees and most of the bushes so I gave them a one star. But if you decide to use them you need to get every detail in writing or they will tell you they did not agree to that piece of the project. read more

If I could give no stars I would. First off I couldn't get anyone to answer and then finally got to sales after a full day. A younger female answered the phone and I asked her to clarify where they were located because the area code was different than that of Bakersfield's. The woman responded very abrasive and said yes it is and had a horrible tone. You could tell she was clearly irritated. I would never use this company because if this is what they hire to answers the phones can you only imagine the work they must do. By the way I made a Yelp just for this review because it was such an awful experience. As a foot note, it's very confusing to me that in this economy and people begging for jobs that you would even employ someone like that for your sales staff with that type of negative attitude, and addition, that a person like that would not be grateful to have a job as well as treating a potential customer with such disrespect. read more

I arranged an appointment to have someone come to my house and give me an estimate for a tree removal. I took time off work to come home 15 minutes before the arranged time. Waited 45 minutes and no one ever showed up. If they won't respect my time, I won't EVER give them by business, and I hope, you the reader, will not give them yours either. read more

Thought these guys knew trees. Had them come to do some trimming and look at one tree that that appeared to dying. The service writer said it need water. So in this drought time I gave this tree extra water. It continued to loose its leaves. After six weeks of extra water I find that the tree is dead and the bark is beginning to fall off the tree. This was evident when I got the estimate. After calling back, explaining what happened, and having them come back to verify, I was told they could remove it for ANOTHER $300 after they charged me $150 to trim the dead tree just six weeks ago. While my neighbor that lives behind me had his tree's pruned by this company, I talked with a guy named Tim. I had them come into the yard and take out some bushes and they brought their large stump grinder into the back yard. I told Tim to make sure they are a careful about the sprinkler systems in the yard. In fact I told him several times to be careful about the sprinklers. In the middle of all the stuff that was going on in the yard, they guy brings me a piece of paper to sign. I normally read everything I sign but there was so much going on, it did not register what I had initialed. When they company was gone and I was walking through the yard, I found they had broken off two sprinklers that stuck up out of the ground by almost a foot. I called this guy Tim back, he called me back the first day and said that he would come by and take pictures for his boss. He never showed up and after that I could never get him to answer the phone. This went on for a week. I tried several times to get someone to answer me. When you call this company, NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE, YOU HAVE TO LEAVE MESSAGES AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. Finally when I left a message that said I was going to the better business bureau to file a complaint, the other guy Tom, who is on the business card that Tim gave me, who is in sales according the the California contractors web site, calls me in tthis morning. ( I had also left messages on Tom's phone number thru the week). He told me because I initialed the box, which states, "Venables tree service is not responsible and will not be held liable for any damage to unexposed wires, lawn, damages, pipes, sprinklers, underground utilities, ect as a result of stump grinding". SO BUYER BE WARE...IF YOU USE THIS COMPANY AND THEY DAMAGE ANYTHING, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T INITIAL THAT BOX OR YOU WILL BE LEFT WITH REPAIRING EVERYTHING YOURSELF. THIS IS MY OWN FAULT FOR NOT READING THE FINE PRINT. I WANTED EVERYONE WHO DOES REVIEWS TO SEE THIS FIRST. I vettet them and they have a good rating and no complaints thru the better business bureau, but as far as I am concerned they are a crap company to deal with.
