Yesterday our neighbors contracted this company to trim and clean their palm trees. In the process, their employees continuously and carelessly dropped trimmed palm fronds on our flowerbeds rather than taking a few more seconds to drop them into their adjacent waiting truck. This broke and trampled many of our plants. When contacted regarding the damage, the owner came out to inspect and agreed there was damage to the plants but was unwilling to compensate for any of it. Instead he then instructed his workers to "protect" the plants further by putting a ladder over the plants that were in danger, while in the process further crushing these plants. Their "cleanup" still left all kinds of palm shrapnel in our beds and on our lawn, which should never have been there to begin with. Be aware that this company is only interested in doing jobs in the fastest manner possible and that your landscaping and your neighbors landscaping are in the line of fire. This company will also not take any responsibility for their carelessness other than a hollow apology. read more

I was looking to get 3 big trees trimmed, after many quotes, Frank gave me the best price, told me that it would possibly take a day to a day and a half, Frank and his crew showed up at 7am, finishing around 1pm, after a hiccup Frank honored his word, to me he won my loyalty to him for all of my tree needs, I'll certainly will be recommending him to friends and family, his business is highly recommended. This guy (business card says Frank Garcia, but who knows) parked across my driveway, walked up to my door and BANGED on it, right below the "No Soliciting" sign that's clearly posted. Then rang the bell that is also clearly marked "No Soliciting." Wouldn't leave my porch when I told him we don't entertain unsolicited guests or solicitors. Threw a business card at me and walked across the street to harass my neighbors similarly. Came power walking back across the street when I started taking pics of his truck, which was still parked across my driveway, to swear at me some more and threaten me. We have a standing policy of never buying anything at the door, but that policy aside, we would never do business with any company that represents itself so poorly. read more

So disappointed with this company. They were recommended, but when we agreed on a price to have trees removed, instead of showing up early the day agreed to, they showed up at about 4 pm. Then they accidentally damaged or wood deck. I understand that accidents happen, but then it gets worse... They offered to repair and I was ok with that initially, but they didn't show up to do repairs as they said they would... Then they show up late again after several texts to finish the job, about 5 pm. Rushed, a mess left all over my yard, fence they took down rehung haphazardly, killed my newly planted bushes, ground cover, flowers... And yes, my deck still damaged! So when my husband said we should pay half which I didn't agree with. FRANCISCO asked for cash, which my husband paid. Still think that was a bad idea... I told my husband to please record the conversation... Funny thing is, as soon as he told FRANCISCO he was recording, our tree contractor, FRANCISCO, stopped speaking English to him! And now only speaks Spanish??? Really??? As much as FRANCISCO kept saying he could have some one fix the damage, for less than $350, then less than $100 or sending strangers to my door at random saying they are here to make repairs we NEVER authorized FRANCISCO to do after they failed to show up the one time we agreed on. My trust of him was gone, completely gone! Now he doesn't respond to text. He told my husband he's not running it hiding from us, but his actions are less than trustworthy. I will be getting those estimates and provide to him, his company, and their insurance. I do not want to speak to him anymore as he's proven to be untrust worthy to us, but I will continue to try and get this resolved and my wooden deck repaired. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend them. This is one of the very very few times I wish I could leave a ZERO star review. The price sounded good, but all the headaches this has and is causing us not worth it! Lessoned learned... During our crazy storm on Sunday, i had a big Redwood tree go down on my house/roof! Frank and his crew came on Sunday and got it off the roof and had it all cleaned up by Tuesday! I am a repeat customer. I have three huge trees, and bring in Frank Garcia and his crew every 4-5 years for regular tree maintenance. The do an amazing job! Free quote. Good communication for scheduling with the office. And they got so much done in about 3/4 of a day. All the guys in the crew were friendly and nice. And they did a very cleanup job afterwards. You could hardly tell they were on site. A couple of wooden fence boards got popped off by falling limbs, but they guys promptly hammered them back on. They made it so easy for me. Universal always gets the job done well, especially on big jobs like this. I think I had 5 workers on site, not counting Frank (owner/supervisor) and the gent that came in with the debris removal truck. I think they give me a break on the cost, because I'm a repeat customer, and I keep my big trees regularly maintained. But I personally thought I got a great value for all the work and material they removed. I will bring them back, without reservation, for future work. read more

This company was working across the street when they noticed that we too had several palm trees that needed trimming . They offered us a great price and we were so happy with their work and clean up after, we asked them to return to trim another tree. They are efficient, polite and excellent tree trimmers. read more

They removed an unsightly row of bushes, a GIANT spider filled tree, trimmed a few smaller trees and removed a small shed that the previous tenant had left behind. Total cost was around $1200. Do not trust this company. They will lie and say whatever it takes to get you to use them over their competitors. We told them we did not have the money to hire them at the moment and are just getting prices. They gave a sob story about needing their crew to work that day so they said we should write a check and they would hold it till payday. They immediately deposited the check. So a couple days ago my neighbor called about my chinese elm. It is over grown and hitting their roof. I've neglected getting it trimmed up. My fault. I called a couple places and they were busy with downed trees. A guy came by and gave me his card from Universal Tree Service and asked about the elm tree. (How fortuitous). I said how much? He looked at it and was about to give me a price of $500. I asked about two smaller trees in the back yard. He looked and said $650 for all three. It's been a few years and last time it was $500 for the one big elm tree. I said cool and he was goin to start the next morning. (Yesterday) They showed up at ten yesterday morning and were ready to start. I was about to leave and my neighbor called and said the guy rang his door bell and told him that HIS side of the tree would be an additional $600. Needless to say i went out there. My neighbor was out there too. The guy from Universal tried to explain why he had almost doubled his estimate. It made no sense. He was acting like the original estimate was for my property only and the portion of the tree that overhung my neighbors house was extra. It was all bullshit and i said "f-Ck you, load your shit and get off my property". . I told him if i see him or his trucks in my neighborhood again i would call the sheriff. On the estimate i was given yesterday, it says total $650 at the bottom. I called their main office and a guy by the name of Francisco called me back. I explained the incident to him. He said yes that's normal for trees that overhang other properties. I said that makes no sense. I hired them to trim the ENTIRE tree not just the part on my property. I said he was actually going to quote me $500 for the large tree. I added the two smaller. How is it that the single limb that overhangs my neighbors property is more than the entire tree. That's about the time Francisco's English skills failed and he no longer understood me. I finally hung up. But i think he got the gist of my goodbye. So beware. This company will screw you. If i could I'd give this company a zero rating i would. A side note. I contacted Venables Tree service. They came out. They gave me a reasonable quote. I explained the incident to the man. He said that under no circumstances would that be acceptable business practice. read more

Disclaimer: I've never done business with Universal Tree Service. However, I will avoid using or recommending them in the future. This morning, my whole house was woken up at 7:15am because of my doorbell being rung. When I opened the door, there was only a card stuck in my screen and a man sitting in a truck across the street with the Universal Tree Service logo on the side. Personally, I enjoy quiet mornings in my normally bustling house, so I decided to call the sales rep and let him know that it's not exactly considerate to be ringing doorbells before 8:00 in the morning. Alexander was less than apologetic during the short phone call, leading me to feel the need to leave this review. Hopefully they will rethink their marketing approach. read more

Awesome service. Showed up on time. Solid workers. We had one large tree that hadn't been trimmed or anything in about 3+ years. The gentlemen who drove by and offered the services was Felix. He followed up and gave me a decent price. Jessica the office assistant called and set up the appointment. She called me the day before to give me a time. The three man crew showed up at 730am. They ser everything up and started to cut before 8am. They were done cutting before 10am. They just had to remove the trash left over. All in all I was impressed with their services. We had an excellent experience. Large crew worked on our severely overgrown new property. These guys worked hard 7am-5pm. They were efficient and did quality work. The owner and also the lead crew guy continually checked in with us about their progress, did we want anything adjusted or changed, etc. And compared to several other tree services in Bakersfield, they charged a very fair price. I was given a quote and told that I would get the trees done the same day. Then I was told the next day. No show, no call. Since then I had to call over and over to get other appointments. I was told 6 different times that they would show up. They never did. I was told many times that I would get a phone call back to confirm and they never called back. They were in my area and I was told that they were not. So I was lied to as well. I asked if they were not going to do my trees, to just let me know and not play games. They would not respond. Very unprofessional. I was really looking forward to them doing my trees and was going to ask for them to do other work. Forget it! read more
