I went to The Donut Shop this (Friday 9/11/20) morning around 8 am to order a dozen donuts as an appreciation for the staff of a program I'm in that is ending. The parking lot had plenty of spots open, including right in front of the door and around the corner of the door since the shop is on a corner in the plaza. The shop was clean and tidy and I was serviced promptly. The display case was full of donuts, they had all the classics plus interesting flavors. I ordered 3 maple circle donuts, 3 chocolate circle donuts, 3 sugar circle donuts, and 3 glazed twist donuts. The woman helping me made sure to verify each type of donut I picked by holding one up with tongs since the display case is a little tall. All donuts are fair game to make up their $12.50/dozen donuts deal. Plus, $12.50 is the final price, tax is probably already added into the price. I got to try one of the maple donuts I bought and it was perfectly fluffy, soft, and sweet. I will definitely be coming back to The Donut Shop, I love supporting mom and pop shops like these and their big and fluffy donuts are better than any Krispy Kreme in my opinion. read more

This has been our family's go to donut shop in Elk Grove for years. Since February of 2020, with the change of ownership, their quality has suffered. We have tried them 3 times since the ownership change, each time has gotten worse. This post is reflecting our most recent visit. Price increased again (it's understandable considering everything else has increased), now they even charge extra for cream filled donuts. The size of donuts have shrunk is one thing, but it was inconsistent in size of the same type of donuts. Basically you are paying for the same price of the same kind of donut with different size, kind of feeling ripped off. Then the texture of the dough. It was sticky and under cooked. The icing for the old fashion chocolate glaze had the freezer burn taste. I guess it's time for our family to looks for a new go to donut shop in Elk Grove. These doughnuts are so good!!! They have some of my favorite ones and some new ones I have never even tried but now I love. First time here and I absolutely loved it! Fell in love with this mom & pop shop cause of moms and pops, duh! They were both so cute and sweet with their service. Glad I was able to walk in at 9am and their donuts behind the glass was still full. Even after we ordered, they had more customers come in nonstop; it was poppin'! We ordered one apple fritter, a maple donut with bacon, a cinnamon roll, and a small coffee. It was like $9 and some change. We opened the box and moms gave us an extra cinnamon roll! The donuts tasted fresh and it was super yummy. Texture and flavor was in every single donut. The box it came in was cute too. They're open 7 days a week from 5am-1:30pm. I've eaten quite a few donuts and this is my favorite place in Elk Grove. SERVICE: The owner is always friendly and the line moves quickly. DONUTS: Nothing fancy, just simple but delicious, melt in your mouth donuts. The craziest donut, if you could call it that, they offer is the maple and chocolate donut with... wait for it... BACON! What?! Seems like a normal donut, but I've witnessed people come in here and ask what the heck it was and be disgusted when told what it was. I hate to give a bad review to a donut shop that probably has some of the best tasting donuts in town, but here it is. I am going elsewhere. Our Sunday morning routine for a long time has been to go get donuts here. A lady named Michelle was usually working; she was always pleasant and friendly. My wife likes custard filled glazed, but the shop only had custard filled chocolate ones. Michelle went out of her way to offer to fill plain ones for us and did so. No problem. 3 or 4 months ago, I went in on a week day morning and a young woman named Thnana (?) was working the counter. When I asked if she would fill a couple of glazed donuts with custard, she refused, saying that they did not have any more. The attitude she conveyed made me think that she just did not want to be bothered with it. I let it go. Sometime over the next few weeks, I asked Michelle about it and she said that they did not make as many of the custard filled during the week, so I concluded that the young lady was telling the truth, though I still felt she was rude in the way she handled it. Some time later, maybe a month, I was in on a Saturday, and Thnana(?) was there. I asked her if there were any glazed donuts she could fill for me. She did so and her general attitude was that I was being a lot of trouble and it irritated her to have to do all this extra work (filling two donuts took her all of 45 seconds). When I got the donuts home, there was barely any filling at all in them, which said to me that she was punishing me for asking. I quit going in when she might be there. This morning (Sunday) I went in as usual, but Thnana(?) was there instead of Michelle. I started to turn around and leave, but decided to try it. I asked her to put some extra filling in them (since she had been so skimpy before). She filled the donuts and the cost was $1.50 more than usual. I didn't say anything, thinking maybe the cost had gone up that much. I decided to find out . I had not been charged before for filling them. I stopped by the shop later. There were two young men working the counter, and I asked one of them how much two custard filled donuts and one cinnamon roll should be. About that time, Thnana(?) came out. I asked her point blank why she charged me $1.50 more. She said it was because I asked for double custard ; I stated that they ought to let people know that. I did ask her for extra because she had skimped on it before. I asked to see the manager but one of the young men said that he was not there at the time. I said to Thnana(?) at that point that I was tired of dealing with her rudeness every time I came in when she was there, and that I was going to write a Yelp review. I was not yelling or swearing or doing anything in a threatening manner at all. At that point one of the young men got a little excited told me I needed to leave the store. I told him no problem, because I had no intentions of ever coming back. I asked the young lady for her name. I also told her I had seen some other reviews that mentioned rudeness from counter employees and I strongly suspected they were referring to her. I then left and do not intend to return. I find it astounding that a manager would let that kind of attitude drive away customers. I have no doubt that she and her buddies simply told the boss that some guy got mad because she charged him for extra filling . I am sure that will be their story. This place is always great. The donuts taste amazing, the staff is friendly and the store is clean. I've never had a bad experience. I like this donut shop because you are greeted with a smile as soon as you walk through the door...At least that's what I experienced. I stopped by to pick up a sweet treat for my bf who happens to love cinnamon apple fritters. The fritters here were fresh and warm and the baker was kind and patient with me and my indecisiveness. Exactly what you're looking for in a doughnut shop. I went around 10 am and was able to receive quick and prompt service while being greeted at the counter. I got the apple fritter because they looked big and fresh like Shaquille O'Neal discussing bball on Thursday night TNT. The fritter was delicious with a crunchy exterior from the cooling of the glaze and a light and fluffy dough interior followed with bits of apple. Great dognut, keep it up I'll be back read more

I'm very sad to say that this is not your old The Donut Shop anymore. It's definitely under the new ownership. Donuts are not fluffy and spongy like they used to and they are shaped and sized very unevenly, they are not even round. My second time here. Today being 1/16/20 at 1:10 PM. The donuts are really tasty though not exactly cheap. The coffee was also very good. When I first entered the shop I verified with the clerk that the closing time was 1:30 PM and she said yes. After having sat a total of 10 minutes, the clerk said "close time". I looked at the clock and it read 1:20 PM! I thought, oh well, she must be an employee who wants to get out of there and doesn't mind being really rude to a customer.
