Went last night on the way home after dinner. This place is a small business, but very solid. I had a banana caramel shake. It reminded me of the "Five Dollar Shake" from the movie "Pulp Fiction." I took two sips of that shake and very politely put it in the cup holder, because I knew that shake wasn't going to survive the trip home. When I got home, that shake lasted, probably 6 minutes, tops. Cover your children's ears and/or eyes: This shake was almost liquid crack. You may go back 20 minutes later with a friend. This is my new go to place for shaved ice!! It was my first time here, so I was unsure what to get...so i got Lime/Pink Lemonade. It was pretty good :) Although, the pink lemonade didn't really taste right.. but it's okay i thought the Lime good. Came around 7:30 ish they were closing pretty soon. Its jus a window and some outdoor benches and wtv. The menu was lwk very overwhelming they had sooo many options, with like milkshakes, sundaes, froyo, ice cream and etc. The guy there ig was a bit impatient with me and my friends bc were rly indecisive so i found him a wee bit rude but wtv. i jus went with froyo in the smallest size, i believe it was around 2.75, with ube and cheesecake. For the price its very cheap and they give alotttt. Flavor wise it was very artificial to me, ube had some interesting taste to it and cheesecake jus tasted like other cheesecake flavorings. Old school feel! Has a drive through which was pretty cool. I ordered the halo halo and the sago gulaman (brown sugar drink) that was supposed to come with either boba OR seaweed jelly (as the menu stated) but the cashier didn't ask me which one I wanted. The sago gulaman consisted of a brown sugar liquid that was pleasantly not too sweet and refreshing, along with crystal boba and grass jelly. I'm not too sure how authentic this was because it was my first time trying it but I swear I felt like something was missing. Regardless I did like this drink way better than the halo halo, but I wouldn't get it again. The halo halo was EXTREMELY sweet, so sweet that I absolutely would not take more than four bites of it. It had an extremely artificial taste, it didn't even really taste like ube ice cream / frozen yogurt, just a ton of sugar. I really wasn't a fan, but my mom actually liked it so I gave it to her. She enjoyed the jellies inside and appreciated that there weren't too many beans. We both however, liked how their ice was soft, which is a must since they do serve shave ice here! Overall I won't be revisiting. If their ube ice cream / frozen yogurt that was in the halo halo is as sweet as their other flavors, I'll definitely be saving my money. Where do I begin? Everything and anything you want. It's a high-schoolers dream. Haha. All for a reasonable price, hence, great for high-schoolers to afford. Its in an older building and has a corner store vibe but you can only walk-up to the window and order. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, one car in drive thru and no one in line. As I'm pulling up, a gentleman walks out a side door and sees me and retreats back in. I get out the car and approached the window. He proceeds to open the walk up window and looks a different direction, no greeting. I greeted and proceed with my order. I wish I found this place sooner this summer. I always drove past it but never got to check it out. I told my husband I was craving shaved ice and he said recommended this place! The menu is very overwhelming I would say. Crazy amount of items but there is definitely something for everyone. Not only do they have dessert but also food items such as hotdogs lol. My family and I normally Go to Ted and Ron's three, four times a week, and every time spend over $40. Well, last night we went right before they closed at 10, and we ordered our normal, which includes a Gaint Vanilla yogurt with extra peanuts and extra fudge, and they've been putting it in the middle so the hot fudge don't melt the yogurt right away. Well, last night we went like 10 minutes before they closed. When I order I always make sure to ask if they remembered the Extra peanuts and fudge because they forgot the hot fudge once and I had to go back. Well this time they put brownie bites instead of hot fudge. My fiancé obviously took a few bites before realizing it because again the toppings were in the middle. He's very particular so he did not want to eat ice cream so we put in the freezer and I said I'm going to go back the next day so they can make it right. When I went the owner was there which was a little old lady and I never seen her there. Probably because we normally come in the evening time. The same girl was there who was very sweet and I believe new because I only seen her the last few times we went and we've been coming there for years. She made a simple mistake she was very apologetic, but she said they would not let her make a new one. They wanted to give me the hot fudge on the side. I said no because we did not order brownie bites and don't like it and said I would like to receive what I paid for. The owner refused and said I ate half of it, which was not true. I wish I took a picture. It was only a few bites. She then said she would give me a medium and I told her that's not what I paid for. She was very rude so I told her I was going to leave a review because I never received such poor customer service here and she told me if I left a review that she was going to sue me. Then she snatched the ice cream from the counter and said she's not giving me a new one or giving me a refund. I was so upset and had to refrain myself from yelling at her because she's an older woman. I asked to speak to the manager, who was always there, which is her son we are regulars and get the same thing every time. I waited like 10 minutes and the young girl told me he did not want to talk to me. I'm assuming he didn't want to stand up to his mother because she seemed very mean so I can only imagine she is in charge and he didn't want to face her. Not to mention, he's never friendly and I can see why. The old lady then asked me to move because there was another customer behind me at this point, and I told her not until I get my ice cream because I'm a paying customer as well. She said she was going to call the cops which I don't know if she did but she ended up telling the girl to just make my ice cream. Very poor customer service and disappointing because I will not be going there again, and it sucks because it's literally down the street from our house and something we enjoyed walking to regularly, but I will not be spending my money there again. Ted & Ron's are a classic at Elk Grove. I feel a tinge of Hawaii whenever I go there. What's not to love? It's a favorite especially for the kids for the convenience and wide variety of snacks! Think of what you want after school, and they would probably have it at Ted & Ron's. The hotdog served is a juicy one! We've had their pineapple soft serve before, and it was great as well. We've also ordered their cheese nachos twice once without chili, and another time with chili AND cheese. Now trying both, I do prefer the chili and cheese together. The spice from the chili has a little punch to it, which is doable for spicy sensitives like myself. The nachos would be even better if the tortilla chips were just a bit more crisp. Got the Halo Halo today too, which was just topped with ube soft serve which was creamy deliciousness! Mix it up if you get it so all the sweetness and melted ice mix up to a perfect sweetness. Also, love that Ted & Ron's offers a drive-thru service if you want food on the go. I was really craving froyo and found this spot on yelp! I decided to give it a shot. The location is in a parking lot with plenty of parking spots. Their menu is loaded with items and options, so that was a bit overwhelming. It took me a while to find out what's what, since there were a lot of boards full of items. I ordered a small cheesecake froyo with strawberries, cheescake bites, mochi, cookie dough, and fresh strawberries. I will say that all the toppings tasted super strange, almost stale. There were maybe 4 slices of strawberries, cut super chunky so you couldn't eat the whole thing in one bite. They sandwiched my toppings between two layers of froyo, so I had to physically move the top layer to get some of the toppings from the middle. The chocolate sauce they put on top was just Hershey's, so nothing special. I will say that I should've taken longer to scan the menu and see what I wanted, so I won't write this spot off, considering how much people like it. Today it was a pleasant surprise to see a girl of high school age working the window. She was super nice and quick. I went to leave her a five dollar tip and to my surprise she told me that they are not allowed to accept tips!? 4 stars for great staff when the kids are at the window. -1 for no tips! The menu offered a delightful array of options, including shaved ice, Hawaiian shaved ice, frozen yogurt, smoothies, shakes, flurries, and more! Making it a superior choice compared to some local alternatives. You can choose between a walk-up window or a convenient drive-thru. I was pleasantly surprised by how this place wasn't too busy. For my order, I went with the mini yogurt, which was priced at $3.00. The best part is that you can mix two different yogurts, and additional toppings cost either $0.75 or $1.00. The mini size turned out to be quite generous. The flurry I ordered was also a generous portion, allowing you to pair any flavor with your favorite topping, easily outshining options at McDonald's. Place has frozen yogurt (among other things, but specifically fro-yo) at a great price, decent flavors, various size options. Customer service is good, not great, but not bad enough to affect this rating. I gave this place 3 stars because they claim to have "Tart" [original flavored fro-yo] every Tuesday, however, every time I've gone, they say that they cleaned the machine already, even though I'm there 2 hours before closing. Another time, I went like 30 minutes prior to their closing time, and prior to me checking, I made sure their hours were correlating with the time. I arrived 30 full minutes before closing and everything was shut off. Need this place to show they care, because it has all the potential starting with their froyo prices, but need to deliver on Tart Tuesdays, until close time, and be open for the hours they claim to be. Edit: About 30 minutes after this review, an "employee" (seems like only a part-owner, or manager would call) called my phone, and gave me an explanation as to what was going on with the yogurt machine, I guess it was broken or something they said, which is fine, understandable...if that were the case, I would assume you'd let your customers know, instead of telling them there's none...basic business practice...however, I digress. Calling a customer over a review...very unprofessional. I was about to offer to change the review for a more positive one, then you interrupted with "there's your explanation, bye!" And hung up. Again, not sure what goes through a manager or owners head to call a customer over a review (they had my number, because prior to me going, I called and made sure about the tart and hours). We've been here many times in the past 3 years. We are a family of 4 and always order $30-40 worth of goodies. The sweet treats are great for the price. Yesterday during our visit, we ordered two regular dogs and a soda. The guy, who I assume is the owner (short, round and very short haircut) gave us our dessert and hot dog orders gave us everything but our soda. I went back up to the window and asked about it. His response to me was "huh, what soda?" I showed my receipt which he didnt bother to look at. Luckily the young lady who took my order was there and told him "oh yeah they had a Dr. Pepper, its right there".. it seemed like he was a bit grumpy or in some sort of a bad mood. However, after reading some of the other reviews, we werent the only ones who experienced his bad mood... i give 5 stars for the food/sweet treats but subtracting 1 star for the bad encounter with the grumpy guy. read more
