Quick stop at this little donut shop and grabbed a strawberry smoothie--super refreshing and tasty! Also tried the ube donut: packed with authentic ube flavor and really good. Can't wait to come back and try more donuts next time!

    Store Front - 7/2023

The night before, I was craving fluffy regular donuts. I was tempted to go to a 24-hour donut spot in Oakland but decided to wait until the next morning to stop somewhere closer. Using Yelp, I found "Donut Design" with mixed reviews and decided to check it out and see what the fuss was all about. It's located in a small shopping plaza off of Washington Ave and has very compact parking spaces in front. Make sure to watch your car doors! This spot has bold, red, upper case lettering on the store front - simple and easy to read off the streets. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted by anyone or a friendly smile, instead I said "Hello!" to the worker or possible owner. That's fine... no biggie but would've added to the experience. I glance to my right and see bright yellow colored benches to sit at for dine-in and to my left are the nicely lit donut displays. You can find a mixture of original, traditional, blueberry, twists, jelly-filled, apple fritters, and sprinkled varieties to choose from. Reviews mentioned to double check pricing for accuracy. I ended up getting half a dozen of regular traditional donuts for $8.99 and pricing seemed okay. This place took credit card but based on what I read on Yelp, if you want to avoid the credit card fee, aim for spending more than $5. Excited to sink my teeth into a chocolate covered donut, the first bite was chewy but not as fresh as I had hoped, kind of stale. The flavor of the donut was okay. It could've been because I picked up donuts in the afternoon or the heat impacted the flavor, not sure. I'm willing to try this place again but may not be my first choice. Support local and try it out!

Love this location for my donut fix! Sweet owners and donuts dont disappoint. I enjoy their donut holes and lemon filled donuts! Ample parking, indoor seating and when the fruits are in season you will be lucky to get cups of watermelon. Support this small business!

Super friendly owner and family. Been in operation for three decades. If you're on a diet, be careful LOL! The donuts here are made just right! Great way to treat yourself or a friend. I usually stop here whenever I order a sandwich next door at Bara's. Enjoy!

    Apple fritter and glazed (4/5)

First time visiting this mom and pop donut shop and have to say they make a wonderful apple fritter...plenty of nooks and crannies for optimum crispiness on the outside yet soft inside...great flavor of the cinnamon, little chunks of apple with a light sugar glaze. I can't vouch for the cake donuts as a basic glazed or apple fritter are the only ones I ever get unless the place offers a maple one with bacon! The glazed donut was perfectly airy with a good texture and not overly glazed. Nothing fancy about this donut shop and all about their product. Located in the same strip mall as Bara's Deli so grab yourself a sandwich and a donut for after, or grab a donut for breakfast and grab a sandwich for lunch after...hmmm... Friendly and welcoming owners, reasonably priced so tip generously and support this small local business.

I love supporting small businesses and will try to make it a priority. This staple donut shop in San Leandro has the best ham and cheese croissant! It's nice and warm and the croissant is perfectly fluffy and flaky. Perfect snack I've been coming here for a very long time and the owner is super nice. Never failed me!

Donuts are ok. I'm sure you can find better elsewhere. Cinnamon rolls are gross. Soaked in oil and not evenly glazed. YUCK.

I knew this donut shop was here but had never been before. It was on my way back to the firegrounds, so I stopped in. The shop is not huge and there weren't a lot of donuts on display. I felt kind of bad that I was wiping out most of what was on display. I ordered one dozen each of four donuts, glazed, chocolate covered, and two others. I would have mixed in some crullers and old fashioned but there didn't appear to be any. Personally, my favorite is an Apple Fritter. None of those on display either. The woman who helped me was very friendly and gave me some donut holes on the house. I gave those to a Deputy Sheriff who was working the outer perimeter of the incident. As to how the donuts tasted, I don't know. Some of us need to watch our sugar consumption. I heard no complaints so I'm guessing everything was okay. I apologize for the lack of photos. As soon as I got back to the scene, coffee was poured and donuts consumed!

We ordered the Vietnamese Coffee, breakfast burrito with bacon, and a couple of donuts. Everything we ordered was pretty good. The Vietnamese Coffee was strong though a little watery. It wasn't as sweet as we normally have it, which is pretty good. The donuts we ordered also pretty good, very fresh. The breakfast burrito was just okay -- it was a little bland for us, even though the portions were huge. The burritos came with hash browns (not the crispy kind, but instead shredded), cheese, eggs, and the meat of choice (bacon or sausage). This is a no-frills place, with 3 seats at the side counter of the store, and then 2-3 outdoor picnic-sized tables. Overall, this is a solid donut place, but we would suggest using crispy hash browns instead of shredded ones in the breakfast burritos.

We saw a street parking as soon as we turn, and just parked even though it was 1000 ft away. The drink/cocktail list is vast, but we are not much of a cocktail drinker and not usually drink during lunch, but I saw Matcha Sharka being ordered a lot and the other seemingly popular drink was this lavender drink. If you are a cocktail drinker during lunch, do check them out. We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.

A touch of bitter (it's coffee - duh!) but so smooth, almost nutty but buttery at the same time. + Got a chicken salad sandwich. It came stacked HIGH with hints of sweetness and curry. Freshest produce. Honestly, I was hungry but could only eat half of it, it was so big. + Friend got a warmed cinnamon bun. Incredible. Yeasty, chewy almost crisp on the outside but pillowy soft on the inside. + Wide open space inside -- high ceilings, one big central area. Not tucked away spaces -- which might or might not match your preference. + Perfect amount of coffeehouse buzz. Music playing lowish in the background and lots of conversations. Just enough to quell my ADHD tendencies. * Honestly can't think of any negatives. Prices are a bit high but happy to pay it for such a quality experience. I think my cortado was decently priced -- maybe $6 or so? Sandwich was $18 or so but done really well and came with a bowl of soup (chips, fruit, and something else was an option instead of soup, but tomato bisque with a sandwich?
