Pretty good donuts that are both great in taste and quality. I got a variety of donuts for my first trip here and they all tasted delish! I went with the Boston cream and they stuffed quite a bit of cream in the donut! The menu also has some breakfast and coffee items as well. There was a distinct garlic smell inside the restaurant which I found odd but it didn't affect the flavor. Customer service was nice. They have their own parking. read more

As someone else stated below, please be aware of being over charged for donuts. I purchase one glazed, one chocolate glazed, and a dozen donut holes. The older lady rang me up and it showed the total as 5.49, however she ran my credit card and I saw that she charged me $6 instead. This isn't the first time that this has happened and it's usually the older lady that does this. I do my best to support local mom and pop shops, but this is the last time I'm buying donuts from this establishment. You can't trust dishonest people. read more

Donut Design is another mom-and-pop store located in a very very small strip mall situated among a liquor store, pizza joint, nail salon, Chinese restaurant, and an insurance company. I've been coming here for years all the back to my high school days and now occasionally when I want a quick snack when visiting family in the area. The husband and wife team who own this tiny shop are a wonderful couple who take care of their customers, which is why I always see a loyal following of old timers here especially in the mornings. And now I see the next generation of their family starting to take over the business and are just as friendly, courteous, and caring as their parents. That all said, they have a pretty good assortment of fresh donuts, croissants (these go pretty fast as they make sandwiches, too), giant cinnamon rolls, danish bars, and other baked goods. I got there late and most of their stuff was already gone for the day. But I managed to get my hands on a dozen donut holes (they always stick in a few extra), chocolate old fashioned, and crumb cake. The donut holes were light and fluffy with a nice sweet glaze. The chocolate old fashioned had a great crispy exterior covered with your standard chocolate glaze. The crumb cake donut was moist (and not dense and heavy) like a good cake should be with a nice hint of cinnamon in the crumbs that completely covered this donut along a light sugar glaze. By the way, there's no way that I finished all of these donuts by myself. I could have, but didn't, LOL! My personal favorites here in the past have been the apple fritter, bear claw, and glazed raspberry filled (each of these are pretty big in size and scrumptious; they were out of the fritters and claws that morning, which was sad for me but good for them since they sold out). Coffee here is okay (it's not a specialty cafe mind you), but nothing is better than having hot java on the spot with your donuts (they also make espresso drinks here, too). If you're in the San Leandro area, stop by this long-time establishment and grab a few donuts (you should come out with a pink box) to satisfy your sugar cravings. You won't regret it! The donuts are good but the customer service is lacking. I also didn't appreciate that the elderly women over charged me for three donuts. When the prices are clearly marked hanging on a sign. Make sure you add it up yourself because she tried to charge 7.65 for one plain croissant, one apple fritter, and one plain twist which should have been no more 2.5, 2.5, 1.25. The crullers, bars, donuts are all very delicious, so take your pick. The people behind the counter are always so sweet and generous with free donut holes...the only place I know of that does that. I went because the name 'Donut Design' suggested they might make some nicer unique donuts. The poster in the window showed extra nice unique donuts. I was specifically wanting that, not the same generic donuts every hole in the wall donut place has. That's exactly what they had. The very basic selection of the most generic donuts. Went on a Sunday around 10 so reasonably not too much of a selection. However, if you are going to have some donuts at least be good ones. The donuts tasted old and didn't really have any flavor. I have been going here for years and truly don't like to give negative reviews. This was our go to place on this side of town. The last two times I have gone, I have been severely over charged with the last time being almost $50 for some donuts, 2 chocolate milks, a watermelon cup and two breakfast sandwiches. I asked how much the milk cost and he told me $3.00 but charged me $3.25 when he said it. i wasn't paying attention when I was being rung up so I wasn't sure if it was the milk but the total was far too high for what I was got and I'm positive we were over/double charged. I was in a hurry so I didn't take the time to question the total at that time but the more I thought about it the more I realized how wrong it was especially seeing many reviews referring to over charging. One of the breakfast sandwiches that the older woman got from the back for me barely had anything in it which I didn't realize until I got it home. I used to think their donuts were really good but this time they were greasy, especially the cinnamon twist. I may give them one more chance because i have gone there for so many years and this is not the quality or experience i am used to from them. I will however pay careful attention to the listed prices and what we are actually charged. If I have another bad experience i will be looking for a new place to get donuts. read more

Beware. I asked the owner how much for my order. He gave me my total but when I paid. He overcharged me. I didn't notice this until I got home and looked at my credit card. I thought maybe it was a credit card fee which he did not disclose but seeing some of the most recent reviews. There were people that had slightly larger orders than me but were overcharged less. My favorite donut place. Not too sweet. The donuts are fluffy, not chewy at all. I come here regularly for the round chocolate coated donut. Hands down the best Ham and Cheese Croissants I've ever had. Perfectly made in my opinion. The croissant is so crispy and flakey but once you bite into it, it's warm, soft, and moist. They use a white cheese that isn't too overwhelming of flavor or sodium despite the generous portion they put in along with the perfect sliced ham, which is warm and generous as well. Every bite you take is delicious, whether it is each ingredient by itself, or the ham and cheese croissant as a whole. Once you give it a try, I'm sure you'll be a regular customer. I've tried their glazed donut holes which are good. Not much to say about them besides that. And the maple donut is great as well. The customer service is great as well. I have been on the search for awesome donut holes since I moved back to the Bay from Davis in 2007. I finally have found good donut holes! This shop across from the Dollar Tree on Washington Avenue. A dozen donut holes are $1.50. I came here at 3:30PM wanting to satisfy my sweet tooth and these holes were still soft and delicious in the afternoon. But there weren't too many donuts and turnovers left. I'll have to return in the morning to get the donuts. There were three people working and each one greeted me hello and asked how I was doing. Came here for donut holes with my kids for pretend "tea time", was really milk and donuts holes with their new playset tea cups and dishes. The donut holes were soft/light on the inside w the perfect amount of sweetness. I also had the ham and cheese croissant sandwich (the owner suggested to toast it warm for me) it was cheese melting deliciousness!! It was huge and satisfying for my 1:30 late lunch tea time. The owners enjoyed watching the lil kids play and didn't mind it a bit. The kids needed to use the restroom, so we passed by the equipments used for the donut making. Of course at 1:30pm, all the equipment were already cleaned, wish we could see them in action at 3am (when they come in to bake their fresh donuts daily). 20+ yrs in business!
