Also it's packaged in semi-hard plastic and has a metallic top so probably unrecyclable. Won't get again. The sweet corn mozzarella tho, def worth it. Was explained as a cross between elote and Korean hotdog. Rec eating in so you can enjoy max cheese pull and crisp coating with corn bits embedded. This time the potato seemed quite oily and hard to finish by myself. When I asked if it's possible to get the Thai Ice Tea with no ice since I wanted to drink it the next day to avoid caffeine too late, they said it's already premade and pre-canned. Strange that the ice wouldn't have melted if it's precanned. That means none of their drinks offered has boba either since you can't customize which is not a big deal since I didn't want boba but for those expecting it because it's available in other locations, they'd be disappointed. Good enough! Mochinut San Leandro is convenient for me, especially when I'm craving a Korean corn dog but don't want to drive out to the farther places that are dedicated to it. The plaza that the shop is in can get pretty busy so sometimes you might have to drive around a bit to find parking. The spaces are also tight so if you have a bigger car or prefer more room, I'd recommend parking on the street or in one of the other nearby lots and walking. The shop itself is quite small with very limited seating room. It looks like folks go there mostly for takeout anyways. You can order at the register but the easiest way is to order with their kiosk. From there, they prepare your order pretty quickly. The corn dogs are good, not my favorite. I usually go for the potato half and half. I appreciate all the condiments they have available. They have a lot of sauces and offerings that I don't typically see at other corn dog places. I've had the mochi donuts here before too and they're solid. Nothing too different than other mochi donut places. I haven't tried the drinks just yet but they've got a wide variety of offerings from coffee to milk tea to refreshers/lemonades. 05.06.2023 - Dessert round two. After dinner and our first round dessert, mochinut was next on the list. Settled in the Pelton Shopping Center next to I-Tea. A small sitting area with tables along the wall. It gets pretty crowded after about 8 people inside. Different bottles of sauces/toppings are set on the table to self-serve when ordering their Korean-style hot dogs. Koreans love putting sugar on everything so it was nice knowing that everything comes plain so we can season it to our preference. Never was a fan of mochi donuts. Texture is weird and it tastes oily. Plus, the freshness only lasts several hours. Husband likes their hot dogs. I didn't try so I can't really review it. I tried their shine muscat soda that costs about $8 w/tax. Was it worth it? No. Soda was flat. The ice watered down the shine muscat flavor. Overall, very underwhelming. For that price, I'd rather invest in the shine muscat grapes itself for $40 from SJ Korean market. Service was a bit on the cheap side. When asked to separate one of the hot dogs, they seemed pretty stingy as they were not willing to give us another single-sized box. This forced my sister to carry her hot dog while driving all the way to Oakland. All-in-all, I can see why it's popular, but personally, nothing really appealed for me to return. This place has the best mochi donuts in the area! That first bite is so heavenly - it's chewy, the flavors of the frosting is boasting with flavor, and it's fluffy. I feel like it's not as dense or sweet as regular donuts which is what I love about this spot. We also got the chance to try their drinks ube and matcha flavored. Was very hopeful and excited when this Mochinut opened in downtown SL. And there were long lines outside, so that was promising too. But I have to say maybe I got my expectations too up there. Firstly, there's a mix of stuff not just mochi doughnuts (there's also hot dogs and Michu drinks!). I only focused on the doughnuts. To start off, not all the flavors are available all the time. And what's available isn't really listed anywhere. You gotta ask them. I got the 3 piece which is $10, so it ain't cheap. But that's fine if it was good. I have to say it was so-so. The ube was probably my favorite but the matcha and guava were meh. Service wasn't great too. They seemed like they were still learning the ropes and didn't care that much either. Placed an order through an app but I believe the company of the food app didn't inform them about how to properly use the app. The staff was VERY very nice though and tried their very best to accommodate even though it was the end of the day and they had run out of donuts and hotdogs. I got the camembert cheese fish cake and ube and matcha drinks and everything was fresh and delicious. The fish cake was really good and not "fishy" and had a hint of cheese that was just cheesy enough to taste both the cheese and fish so that neither were overpowering. It was very fresh. Even though the drinks tasted a little artificial to me, where the tea flavors didn't seem like they were brewed/authentic, my parents LOVED the drinks. I personally liked the ube more and it tasted like there was a hint of coconut flavor in it that made it a little different than usual taro milk teas. I believe this is an independently owned location. The Korean lady is super sweet. They have not officially opened and appear to be in soft opening stages. The area this location is in is fairly small and parking is really hard to come by as it is pretty popular. It's also location next to an iTea. You either have to be lucky with parking, or go across the street to the big lot and walk a bit. The first time we came here around 3 or 4 PM (maybe 3 weeks since they opened?), they were out of everything except for drinks. Since they were new to the area, I didn't think much of it, I just assumed they were really busy in the mornings. However, I was disappointed to go home empty handed since I wanted a Korean hotdog that was close to home. They also had the fruity pebbles mochi donut that I wanted to try that was only available that week (I'm sure they'll be back). After a couple of more weeks and finally having a day off work, we came here for lunch and was very surprised by their drinks. We got the Ube and the Mango Ade. The Ube was delicious and the mango ade was very refreshing and slightly carbonated. I like the plastic cans the drinks come in, it's cute and very different. We also got the glass noodle fish cake. Super exciting to see mochi donuts pop up in Downtown San Leandro! This is in Pelton Plaza so parking can be challenging during certain days and times, but it's definitely not impossible. I didn't have that much interaction with the staff, but to ask about ingredients because one of my family members has dietary restrictions. They were able to go to the back to get more information, which was really nice. The quality of the mochi donuts themselves are pretty good, however, their flavors are hit-or-miss. My family and I were able to get a dozen donuts, but some of the donuts felt like they were lacking in OOMPH. They didn't taste bland, but there was nothing too exciting about them - maybe we just went on an off day because looking at other Yelper's reviews it looks like they often do have more exciting flavors like pandan, ube, etc. but when we went the flavors we got just had the flavors sprinkled onto them or drizzled. An example of this was the Strawberry Funnel mochi donut, which was essentially a plain donut with powdered sugar and a strawberry syrup drizzle. I haven't had the chance to try their other menu items like the Korean hot dog and definitely am not going to write them based on one experience alone. Such a bummer, no more boba and no more taro at 3 pm and the closing time was at 8 pm. Are we also have shortages of boba and taro? Went for matcha without boba instead.
