There are good donuts...there are great donuts...and then there is Donut-King. Donut-King is just that, the king of the donut world. I have, and always will be, a supporter of donut shops. Being I am a police officer, it's only stereotypically fitting that I enjoy donuts. Haha! Donut-King has some of the best in the business. Their filled long johns are phenomenal, the apple donut is simply wonderful and the "Chop Suey" donut is a classic in it's own right. They are always fresh and delicious, and the staff is always friendly. Everyone in, or around, St. Charles should try them at least once...if not ten times. Haha! If you want the best, cheapest donut in town, stop in to Donut-King. Just make sure you bring cash, they don't accept anything else, keeps the prices down. read more

These are the best donuts in the St. Louis area. For me the quality test of any donut shop is the classic raised dough, glazed donut and I would put up Donut-King's against any other bakery anywhere. The donut itself is large and light as a cloud and the glaze is just the right thickness, is moist and very favorable containing just the right amount of vanilla. And if the classic glazed is not your thing they have a wide variety of other styles. If cinnamon is your favorite they have several styles, the king being their Chop Suey, a large raised dough donut marbled with cinnamon and glazed. I don't live in St. Charles and don't get by often but if I know I'll be near I give them a call to make sure they're open and if they still have my favorites. Their hours are 5am until noon and closed Mondays and in the winter if the weather gets funky they won't open, so call ahead. Been going there for over 40 years and their quality has never wavered. If there's any downside to the Donut-King experience it's their coffee. In this age of coffee awareness there's no excuse for poor coffee and Donut-King's is nothing to write home about - very thin with not much flavor. If they made specialty coffee drinks and had a range of teas this place would be heaven. So pick up a dozen and go home to get a cup of the good stuff. read more

When we want a donut this is it! Full of flavor, never greasy and you can tell they make their own dough. Jelly donut was really light. Tons of flavor in the: chocolate iced chocolate cake donut, Dutch apple, apple crumb and the old fashioned. They had many other options in the case. read more

Our go to donut shop! All the donuts are simple yet old fashioned excellent. They are friendly and reasonably priced also and froo froo donuts here, they don't need them. Their chocolate icing actually tastes like chocolate and isn't just colored like chocolate. I'm getting hungry for another one writing this, gotta go. read more

Every doughnut lover thinks they know where the best doughnuts in town are. Let me tell you I will not try and persuade you simply because these doughnuts speak for themselves. You owe it to yourself to try the aptly named "doughnut king." This place only takes cash but you won't need much. A dozen is under $10. I've paid twice as much for a box of crap. The place is small, friendly and inviting. In a hurry? you'll be on your way in minutes. Have some time ? Have a seat in the cafe area and enjoy. They have a great selection and the racks are full and delicious looking every time I've been there. The staff is friendly, patient and helpful. Has a "family owned and operated" feel to it. I took a chance on this place because the shop closer to me shut it's doors. So glad I found doughnut king. I'd pay twice as much and drive twice as far for this place. read more

We had Donut King for the first time this weekend and it was just okay. They have curbside ordering but no menus and with it being our first time we weren't sure what was available. Went with half a dozen glazed and half a dozen chocolate long johns. The dough itself was a bit more dense than I prefer and the icing was a bit to sweet/to much. If you like really sweet denser donuts (personal preference) you would probably like these. read more

Ok let's be real - Donuts are amazing. But when they're done really well, like those at Donut King, you can REALLY notice the difference. Was a tad disappointed that they were out of some of their selections when I went (about 9:30am on a Saturday, which I recognize may be a bit late for the donut scene), but was able to try the regular glazed, the custard filled, and the buttermilk, and they were fantastic. The glazed were more light and airy, which I love, and the buttermilk were more cake like, which my hubby loves - so it was absolutely perfect! Oh and 6 of them were $4.50, sooo affordable. Looking for a good donut shop and came across this. Donuts were good and the glazed twists huge. I love strawberry frosted donuts which they did not have and prices are a little more than what I expected but it was still good. Just sad no pink frosted donuts. read more

This is a great little "classic" donut shop. I love a good donut, and they did not disappoint. It's a small little shop that only takes cash (Read that again. It's important: They only take cash.), and I didn't know the rules of grabbing my own box when I went in. The worker, though, didn't make me feel like an outsider and helped me by getting a box for me. There was a table of men enjoying their donuts and discussing/gossiping about the latest news, so it just was a neat place. And the dutch crumb, which I had been told was their best, was certainly amazing - though I didn't not eat any of the ones we got! read more
