Visited this place for the 1st time last weekend with my boyfriend. We saw that this place had a 4.8 rating and said why not try it? Well, it's a very disappointing place... I ordered the Boston Benedict (pictured) and my boyfriend got 2 eggs, toast, and sausage (not pictured) we waited about 20-30 minutes for our food or more and we even came after the breakfast rush hour. We also got 1 glazed donut to try and it was raw and greasy! Our drinks also came in plastic cups? You know like the plastic paper Dixie cups lol... The ambiance was awkward and dirty, we could visibly see the grill which was caked with black charred gunk. We watched the cook continuously drop egg shells all over the floor from our seat and overall just dirty. Again, we witnessed all this until we got our food, I received my meal first and my boyfriend waited an additional 10-15 minutes for his meal so I was basically finished before he even got to eat. The only "decent" thing about this place is the dirt cheap prices but that also means dirt cheap ingredients as we could see all the products used by the cook as well. Unless you want to sit in a dirty atmosphere and eat raw donuts I would not suggest going here!! Save your stomach and go elsewhere. read more

Went for a quick breakfast a few weeks ago. Apparently, it is under new ownership. The donuts are NOT what they used to be. Very greasy. They used to be the best around. Sad... The restaurant is just downright dirty. Dust hanging off the ceiling fans, dirty ceiling vents, coffee splatter on the walls. Very sad to see this place so neglected. read more

This place used to be solid when the owner and his wife ran it a few years ago. The people that run it now don't seem to care as the place looks dirty, skimpy donut selection (at 7/7:30 am) and it always smells like they're burning food. They should consider a better ventilation system or find a cleaner way of cooking. I'm all set with this place. read more

This family run business has heart. All the employees really care about their restaurant and it definitely shows in the quality of their food. The place makes fresh donuts daily. The restaurant is small but they do offer a good breakfast. I got the Florentine omelette which was nice. They definitely caramelized their onions before putting it in the omelette. This made the omelette really stand out compared to the other diner type places I have visited. read more

Old school homemade doughnuts, not the crappy fat free, gluten free, taste free crap they sell at "Dunkies" that the local rubes seemingly flock to. Lile a wonderful trip back in time, orange formica counters scream "Mister Donut"... Most excellent pastry: doughnuts, bearclaws and turnovers. All with that homemade feel. Counters and tables, always wicked clean. Plenty of parking in the front, side and back of the building. Normal after church crew on Sundays. The prices cannot be best... heard working staff and inexpensive highly quality food. Wonderful staff; I've been here about twenty times and I sense that it is a family that owns and runs the restaurant. They serve eggs any way you want, and can make a very good poached egg too! First time at Donut Star today. Went in with my husband for what we hoped was a yummy, small space good old fashioned breakfast. We both ordered iced coffees, which were really good. My husband ordered the veggie omelet and I ordered 2 eggs over medium with rye toast, homefries and bacon. Both just classic breakfasts. His veggie omelet was okay but lacked any flavor. You also have to specify that you don't want oyster sauce on it- something we've never had to specify? My breakfast was seriously just so bad! The homefries and bacon were completely dried out and flavorless. I could only stomach the eggs on one piece of toast. There were plenty of people coming in to grab coffee and pastries to go. I think that is what this place is good for. It's not for a good, yummy sit down Saturday morning breakfast. It's more grab and go coffee. We will not be returning. read more

I live 40+ mins up north and was rushing to make it to the shop before they close. Decided to call & pre-order. My order was ready and packaged with thought and care upon arrival. For less the five dollars, I walked out with a donut and a breakfast sandwich. For that price you really couldn't go wrong. I had seen the reviews, but I had also seen the place from the outside and didn't think much of it. Heck, eve on the inside, it doesn't look like much. Don't be fooled, stop in here, you'll be happy you did. You can get a coffee and donuts to go, just like at DD, but without the drive thru. You can have a seat, order some breakfast, and relax for a bit. There is a fairly large counter inside and about a half dozen tables if you choose the latter. I purchased a chocolate frosted donut, that was absolutely delicious. You could taste the chewy freshness at first bite. My egg sandwich was just as good. The egg sandwich can only be described as perfection on a fresh bulkie. This may well become my got o in the area. read more

Definitely worth the drive over. Finally found a place that makes apple fritters. It was a great homemade donut. I would have preferred a little more apple pieces in it but satisfying. One of my favorite place to stop along the route. Great atmosphere, employees are very friendly and welcoming. Restaurant was barely half full but service was terrible. My wife asked for ice water 4 separate times with 2 different servers and it never arrived. As their name suggests, Donuts are the Star here - very cloud like, not too sweet, and wonderful (very popular - sometimes they run out). Classic New England donut shop. They make a solid and pretty cheap breakfast sandwich, and you can always get a cooked diner-like breakfast at the counter. I've heard the coffee isn't very good, but the jelly stick is in my opinion a nearly perfect jelly doughnut. I never even liked jelly doughnuts before having one of these. Usually you get a puff ball that just kind of holds the jelly together while you eat it without adding anything to the experience. The jelly stick is a glazed cake doughnut filled with a red substance that is vaguely raspberry-like and utterly delicious. This is a dense baked good, it holds together while you eat it. We tried this since Danielle's closed (so sad) but we were very happy with the switch. We got the hash, I hate to admit it, but I prefer canned hash, might be a connection to a childhood memory, but they do a nice job making it crispy here. The maple bacon donuts are also the signature thing here, highly recommended. We also got the chocolate chip pancakes and they were a good reasonable portion, couldn't finish them. We now tend to order breakfast sandwiches here on the weekends and they're way better than DD or any other local place. I come to this small breakfast eatery bimonthly, and I can say that this establishment is so so. The food is above average and the atmosphere is welcoming. Some gripes I do have with this eatery is the service. Occasionally I find that the waiter or waitress has forgotten an item on my order or had brought me the wrong item, intended for another customer. I understand that it can be hectic working in such a small place, serving an abundance of hungry customers but I think that the service should be improved upon. I have to say they have the BEST coffee around! Their breakfast sandwiches are incredible and piping hot! We can order them and bring them home and still have to wait to eat them! Beats microwaved sandwiches from D&D and day hands down! Donuts are made fresh daily and for a dozen and a large coffee it comes to about $8... Super cheap for some great food! Also the owners are so sweet and nice! Love getting my breakfast here on the weekends as a treat and live for the coffee! Only recommendation I would have is for them to accept credit cards but not that big of a deal! read more
