This is another visit here because I am starting off with starting my New Year's resolution (which was to try something different in places I eat). My husband and myself shared a meal here because I had wanted to try this dish when I saw someone else ordered it (and I couldn't get someone else to try it with me). Our server was great and he kept asking us if we needed anything else and was very cheerful with us. We came mid afternoon so there were seats available with little wait time. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing and television screens to view from too. I come back here from time to time to enjoy the meals with friends or family.

Came here for trivia. The ambiance and vibes were good, service was fast, and trivia was fun, but the food was mediocre and does not entice me to return.

Came here with my family and had a wonderful experience! I am so thankful they have an entire menu for vegans with plenty of options! I opted for the Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberry Waffle and it was even as magical as I imagined! There was a little disappointment in that the menu described it as having whipped cream and it's even pictured with whipped cream, but sadly it was missing that. Nevertheless, it was still very decadent and the texture was soft and pillowy with a good crunchiness on the outside. I loved the chocolate and strawberry mixture and it had just the perfect t amount of sweetness without being sickeningly so. I also loved the vegan bacon as it was crispy and salty and really hit the spot. It really mimics bacon well! The service was very friendly and personable. The booth seating was so comfortable and the ambiance was upbeat and lively. Parking was a little difficult in the area but we were able to find a meter a block away.

Raspberry Cream Donut, Boston Cream Pancakes, 2 Scrambled Eggs

This place was honestly such a let down. DAY 1: I went on Thursday night after a show at the theatre around the corner. A place called the Donut Villa! Open late at night in Massachusetts where weed is legal! Surely this place will have a large array of donuts for those with the munchies or people like me who want a little late night snack right? ...wrong. We came in around 9pm (2 hours before closing) and it was really cute with 50's diner inspired decor inside. When the waitress came over, I already knew I wanted to try a donut, of course, from a place called the Donut Villa! My heart was set on the chocolate raspberry cream donut I saw on the seasonal menu which was right up my alley. The waitress rudely said there weren't any donuts left besides what was in the case up front. So we got up and went back to the front to see what was left: a ginormous apple fritter and a chocolate chip twist. No classic donuts, no chocolate raspberry cream. Then my friend decided she wanted something small and she asked for the penne alla vodka and the waitress told her that was for kids only, adults were not allowed to order from the kids menu. Now, not only do I believe it ridiculous to refuse any kind of business, something I've only ever seen enforced at Applebee's of all places, but also why would there be no penne alla vodka on the regular menu? We almost left but my friend wanted to still hang out and debrief from the show and since it was late, nothing else seemed to be open, so we stayed and shared the grilled cinnamon roll. Cloyingly sweet and dry to be honest, not sticky and gooey like a normal cinnamon roll. A bit disappointed, we didn't finish it. DAY 2: I was staying in a hotel nearby and wanted to give the place a second try, especially since part of the bad taste the place left in my mouth was from a waitress that could've just been having a bad night, and their breakfast menu looked promising from the night before. I ordered the Boston cream pancakes, scrambled eggs and, of course, that chocolate raspberry donut (for delivery while working remotely). I will say it was delivered quicker than anticipated which was nice. Now I am aware that scrambled eggs probably do not travel well under normal circumstances, but I also know overcooked scrambled eggs when I taste them. These were very overcooked. The pancakes were nothing special either, also a tad overcooked and dry. The Boston cream was fine. I got it with banana added which they put in between each pancake layer with the cream, a commendable choice. The chocolate sauce was the best part in my opinion. The donut was good, but it was put in a paper bag instead of a box so the cream stuck more to the bag than the donut. I had to smear it back on after getting it out. It was good, I did like the cream and there was A LOT of it. I halved the donut and the pancakes and saved them for later because they both were so big and filling. I only ate the leftovers because I felt I had to. Overall I was disappointed in my experience. The only thing I liked was the donut but it's not something I'd go out of my way to get again. Pros: fast delivery, decent donut Cons: overall seemingly careless wait and kitchen staff

Great ambiance and staff! Went for brunch at 10:30 AM on a Saturday and was seated right away. My waiter Collin was great! The potatoes were heavenly, one star down because the hollandaise wasn't very flavorful so it didn't really add much to the dish. But the ingredients were fresh and good quality!

Good portions, friendly service but if you are touting yourself as a diner you best improve your home fry game. Underseasoned undercooked with no sign of them ever hitting a grill.

We were seated 35 minutes after our reservation (which was 12:30 pm) and no one came to our table with water or silverware until 1:30 (a full hour after our reservation and 25 minutes after we were seated). We ordered cocktails, one of them being a flight of 4 mimosas. When brought to the table there was no description of what the ingredients/flavors were in each - which is customary to share/explain so you know what you're drinking. The server didn't know, but did bring the answers back a little while later...thank you! They were out of one of the first course items on a two-course prix fixe menu (which unfortunately 3 of the four in our party had originally selected). For the second choice/back-up course (avocado toast) it was not accompanied by smoked salmon as stated on the menu but instead shrimp and cucumbers had been added - with no heads up from the server that they were also out of the smoked salmon....the dishes were brought to the table with no explanation or apologies whatsoever. In a very odd twist that I haven't experienced before, our original server said they were leaving for the day during the midst of our service and a new server worked with our table for the balance of the meal. The second course meals were fine - the steak in the steak eggs was delicious per the two people in our party who ordered that dish; the egg dishes the remaining two of us had were ok, nothing to write home about. Sitting at our table we witnessed the table next to us experience the same issues we had...and a friend of theirs swung by their table and shared even more egregious examples like never receiving their drinks at all, among others. As another reviewer wrote about their experience today, it was shocking that nothing was comped off of a $250 bill, discounted, or some future offer made to make up for our utterly unacceptable experience - never mind that we were there for 2.5+ hours! We are grateful to have restaurants like Tryst in Arlington but we will not return (we have dined there many times for special occasions over the years) and will no longer recommend it to friends either (which I have also done many times).

I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

Now it's quite underwhelming. The apricot croissant is now some smaller glorified danish that has no richness or personality. The plain croissant is quite "bready" now, whereas it used to be light and buttery. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have a different croissant supplier now. What saved this spot from a lower grade is that the pain au raisin and chausson aux pommes are passable. Also a save is that they still offer various French products, from soaps to cheeses to canned goods. I have to find a new French bakery in the area.
