This place is a jewel! It's family food but not great food ! There are some things they do well and some not ! Service is great but only one waitress! Lately we play a game ! It's are they open or are they not ! Sometimes we like an alternative over tip tops for breakfast on Saturday! Guess what , closed on Saturdays and limited on Sundays! At times they close for no noted reason! This is a locals club! It works for them , but their hours are challenging! Again we love this local dive but frustrated! read more

Lived in Charlottesville for years and had not tried it! Had breakfast with the family and it was fantastic! Everything was homemade. Gravy is hardy and filling! The servers here were VERY nice, but we waited 40 minutes after ordering to receive our breakfast. The food here is not real food. There is no real coffee creamer or half and half. I must have driven past Doodle's Diner hundreds of times and not noticed it. But yesterday, as I was leaving C'ville, on the 250 bypass headed to I-64 to go home, in a small, nondescript group of stores on the left, I saw Doodle's Diner. It was early Friday afternoon. All I could think of was Doodles Weaver, a bit-part actor on the Andy Griffith Show. Good enough for me. A quick U-turn and I was parking just moments later. The server, Kim, told me to sit anywhere. I snagged a booth and began perusing the menu. So many options! I settled on the Doodle Cheeseburger. Fries for side. The food came up quickly, perhaps 10 minutes. Fries first. Hot, abundant, Shoe String, and delicious. I ate about half, and later packed up half to take home. On to the Burger. I needed assistance, so I asked Kim for a steak knife. I was soon sampling the Doodle Cheeseburger. Very, very good. It's worth a repeat, but there are many other dishes I wish to try first: Doodle's Delight Omelet, BLT, Club Sandwich, etc. There were signs suggesting Soup of the Day, and Desserts. None of the Soups caught my fancy, but the desserts sounded interesting. I asked Kim if they wee homemade; she assured me they were. The only dessert I thought I might enjoy was the Carrot Cake, so I ordered that. OMG! Hands down, it was the best Carrot Cake ever (and I have eaten a lot of CC!) Cream Cheese Frosting, spices... Nutmeg, Cloves, and... Je ne sais quoi. That will be a repeat every time! read more

We went to doodles on a Sunday during a busy brunch rush and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We were seated right after several large groups and as such our food ended up taking longer than we or our server anticipated. Our server was so attentive, apologized several times for the delay in our meals, and declined to charge us for parts of our bill. Been going to Doodles for years now. The food is terrific home-style cooking and Kim is simply a server extraordinaire. She is friendly, professional, dedicated, and just an overall nice human being! Walking into Doodles feels and tastes like you've just gone home for a good home-cooked meal. Have never eaten anything there I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. Prices are super reasonable too. I pass this place all time, but never stop in. On a humbug I stopped in and got a steak and cheese with fries. Place was kinda empty but the people there seemed to be regulars. Waited about 10minutes for my food. I'll say this the fries were good, but the steak and cheese could have used some flavor. Overall I would try something else from there. read more

I am such a chicken strip snob and this place has the best I've ever eaten. Quaint and quiet on a Sunday morning was perfect for our out of town brunch. Doodles is a solid diner with a bunch of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at any time of day: Omelets, waffles, sandwiches, burgers, etc. My friend and I ordered some omelets and were wondering whether or not there would be a sufficient amount of meat on the omelet. Boy, we were surprised to see that the omelet was bursting forth with meat. The portions were sizable, and the quality was above average. The service was great, but my only knock against Doodles is that my friend found a hair in the omelet. He didn't mind - but obviously, that was a bit disappointing. read more

Excellent food and great service. Good home cooking style meals where all of the meats and most of the sides are prepared fresh, not pre-packaged or frozen. Sliced, open faced roast beef with 2 sides was excellent...best and only home cooked roast beef in town that I am aware of it at least have eaten. The sides were home made corn pudding and macaroni salad....both very good. The burgers, subs and salads also looked very well done and hand prepared. Reasonably priced and good value in the meal with personable service. Can't wait to come back for the homemade corned beef for breakfast. read more

So, after reading reviews I had to think my taste buds are off! We wanted to go to Tip Top Diner but the line was out the door at 1115 in the morning. Doodles had no wait and got seated immediately. That's a Pro. I prefer local diners to chain restaurants as the food is generally better in my opinion. Many choices on the menu. Had the pork tenderloin and eggs with home fries and biscuits. Almost everything was cooked to death. Pork tenderloin was dry and leathery and had a strange after taste. The over medium eggs were over hard. One biscuit however had close to raw dough in it. Mac and cheese was slightly oily and navy bean soup didn't have much flavor. Felt like most of the patrons here were regulars. I go to Doodles's Diner every week. Both the food and the service is awesome, to say the least! The servings are plentiful and when you order a fruit cup, you actually get a great variety of healthy fruit, and not just a bowl of melons! There are specials every day, and homemade soups and desserts. I am on a salt restriction so I appreciate the fact that they don't oversalt the food like so many places do. I prefer to support family-owned businesses over chain restaurants. Oh, and they compost as well, which is another great plus! You need to check the hours before you go. read more
