We stopped by for the first time this afternoon. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich which came on a super dry sesame bun. I wasn't a fan of it because of the dry bun and the lack of flavor. We also ordered the potato salad which we all tasted and gave a 2/5. Lastly we ordered a burger which was a frozen patty that was pink inside instead of well done and had zero seasoning. Maybe they had an off day but none of us enjoyed the food and everyone said it was mediocre. read more

As we approached Royals of Troy, I said "uh oh." All I saw at first was lots of plywood covering the front of the restaurant. But there was "OPEN" written in big letters along with their phone number. I almost gave up but figured, I'd come this way, I'd at least call. And I'm glad I did! A wonderfully friendly person answer the phone and took my order. I pulled up close to the red door on the side of the building to keep the runner from getting too wet on the rainy day and hung out until our food was ready. We got two hot dogs and an order of onion rings. The hot dogs were good with soft buns. "These are the good type of onion rings." My mom said as she took them out of the bag. This place is legit. Best Cheesesteak in Virginia I've tried yet. Been here 51 years. Onion Rings were perfect. Yes you can absolutely have bad onion rings. Have been a GM in the restaurant industry! My wife, toddlers, and I ate here for the first time last night and it was wonderful! The kids loved it, especially the dry erase boardwalk they had fun drawing on while we waited. It's such a beautifully designed place with all kinds of cool collectibles. I love that it's a small, locally owned and operated family business. We got there at 11:20. They have many choices that are made daily? The gumbo was still being made. My husband had the chicken salad sub--huge, high enough to share. I had their beef broccoli noodle soup. Sounded and looked like it was trying to be a Chinese ramen soup. She offered to let me taste it before buying it, but I didn't. Just a bit of constructive criticism for the restaurant, hold back on the salt. The atmosphere had antique and vintage items and a neat wood paneling type ceiling. A large round table and 4 chairs were in the alcove and table with 6 stools were to the side. Three groups of two, and a gentleman with an order to go came in the restaurant while we were there. (About 30-40 minutes). Staff were very friendly and willing to accommodate changes to the menu items. We will return again! read more

Everything you would love in a small town local Diner! So glad I was working in the area and got to check this place out. First thing I noticed was how immaculate the place was! Super clean with a great ambiance. I ordered the chopped Italian sub, fries and Oreo pound cake. The sub was hands down the best Italian sub I have ever eaten! I'm a huge Italian sub fanatic and Jersey mikes was always my favorite until now OMG it was so good! And their fries with their homemade fry sauce was addicting! Oh and I'm a dessert before dinner person so I had to try the Oreo pound cake first and that's what made me want to write a review! It's perfect, not too sweet, amazing consistency and a great price. This was a perfect quick dinner for us and our friends (both of us have kids). The food was delicious. They recently switched the cheese on the Philly and it was a major improvement from an already solid sandwich. The hush puppies were cooked to perfection.
