Looking for fried chicken and found my way to this bar/restaurant that is recovering from terrible vandalism from last summer. Bartender/server was friendly and happy to share the history of the place. The Bazooka drink tasted just like bubblegum!

In town for a wedding and wanted to try a local spot. My hubby and I love barbecue and the breakfast options were an added bonus! We got the ACE biscuit, hashbrowns and pulled pork sandwich. They even gave us drinks on the house for being out of town/first time guests! It was a gorgeous day too, so we enjoyed the outside seating area :)

Really no service! You grab a menu or read the board ! The food doesn't taste the same! Little things like seasoning and cooking times are off! I am a Championship bbq pit master and they have one of my smokers ! The vibe is great and great music! I had the dirty biscuit! The sausage is homemade but the fat to meat ratio is off! It's more a meat patty! The flavor is off ! The egg was cooked perfectly! The gravy was good! A great pepper content! Pimento cheese was good and standard quality! I think their food is good but not our standard to what we like ! They ask for tips and you get to bus your on table ! lol!

We were visiting Charlottesville for the weekend and randomly came across this place while looking for a quick spot for brunch. The menu offered a wide selection of BBQ meats but it felt like the real money maker here was the biscuits since you should get any of their meats on a biscuit or just have it smothered in gravy. I ended up trying a little bit of everything because how could you not when everything on the menu sounded so good. The biscuits were much bigger than I thought but pleasantly surprised that they weren't as heavy which made it much more enjoyable when paired with the gravy or the meats. The sausage gravy could have used more salt and spices as it was pretty bland and mostly just tasted like butter. Unfortunately they were out of the brisket and pastrami which I was really looking forward to trying after reading all the reviews. We ended up with the pulled pork, Chorizo, and jerk chicken. Each portion came in 4oz servings so it was more than plenty for even the hungriest person. The chorizo patty by itself was a little dry and under seasoned which was strange because chorizo is usually pretty salty. The pulled pork had good smoky and salty flavor so I'd recommend that if you come across a limited menu offering like we did. The jerk chicken also came in a pulled/shredded version which was different than what I am used to/expecting which is whole pieces of chicken with the bone in. The sauce itself was tasty but the chicken itself was a little dry. Overall pretty decent option to grab a hearty bite. Just touch when you are choosing from a little menu.

    Made my own pastrami fries.

This was my second attempt to visit Ace Biscuit and Barbecue. The first time, they were closed for renovations, and this time, I found out they're closed every Tuesday and Wednesday. Unfortunately, Google Maps still showed them as open, which was a bit frustrating. As I was about to leave, I saw a gentleman heading into the shop and asked him if they were closed. He confirmed they were and listened as I suggested updating their information online to prevent others from making the same trip in vain. I believe he was the Food and Beverage Manager. To my surprise, he asked what I was hoping to order. When I mentioned the pastrami, he told me to hang tight. Moments later, he came back with some pastrami for me to try. What began as a frustrating experience and a potential culinary heartbreak turned into something completely different. That small act of kindness and genuine customer service earned Ace Biscuit and Barbecue a lifelong customer. In an age where customer service often seems to be an afterthought, it's refreshing to encounter a place that still values it.

Got the Ace Biscuit with brisket/egg/cheese. The biscuit was dense+crunch, not fluffy+crunchy. The brisket was extremely dry. Like inedibly dry. Like someone burned the whole thing. I don't know how it passed the quality test for something that should ever be served to a customer. The egg was good. The barbecue sauce was good. The cheese was unmelted, which was extremely offputting. The staff were friendly.

The Ace Biscuit and hasbrowns were so good and filling. The brisket on the Ace Biscuit was delicious. I was disappointed that there was no sausage gravy. Would return to try that gravy and biscuits.

Had to make our last meal in Charlotte before heading home a good one and Ace didn't disappoint. They're known for their biscuits and BBQ, so I knew I had to get one of their specialties. Decided on the Tommy Pastrami, with my egg over medium and no spicy brown mustard (I'm not a mustard fan). I really enjoyed the pastrami, which was tender and you could taste the smoky flavor. I was expecting the biscuit to taste better than it did (was just okay), but when eaten as a sandwich, it was pretty good. I also shared the fried green tomatoes, which were just okay. I wouldn't order them again, though. Pulled pork was also not bad. Could have used some more seasoning. Everyone working at Ace was friendly. You order up front and someone brings your order to you. Parking is available out front in their small lot or along the street. Plenty of seating indoors and small "patio" with a couple tables outside.

We stopped in for lunch with our two kids and the food was kid approved and parent approved! The service was fast and at around noon on a Monday we were able to find a table and eat inside.

First timers to this place last weekend. 11am arrival this past Monday. Had no idea what we were doing. The staff here are SUPER friendly, kind, and spirited. They clearly enjoy what they do. The menu has a variety of refreshingly different items. We all tried something different. I think the O'l Dirty Biscuit rocks (which is what I had), but the Brisket Biscuit melts in your mouth too. We got two mimosas. The bill was around 55-60 I think. Par for the course these days. The place has character. Fun Fact -Read on the wall by the bar about the bar tops.

I tried the Babyback Ribs and Fried Chicken Soul Sandwiches. The Babyback Ribs were really good. The ribs are taken off the bone for the soul sandwich and plated on slices of potato rolls. The Fried Chicken was good but not the best I've had in Charlottesville. I would have liked the outside to be crispier. The cornbread that comes with the order was also good. It was not traditional cornbread-- it tasted like carrot cake corn bread. The Mac and Cheese was a little too overcooked for my liking. However, for the meat sandwich and two sides were a large portion and cost 12 dollars which was awesome. Overall, Soul Food Joint is a charming locally owned soul food place downtown. It wasn't the best fried chicken or barbecue that I've had in Charlottesville, however the food was good and the portions were great for the price.

Server (Brianna) started out good, fairly attentive until I got my food. After I got my food I got one cursory "all good?" and that was it until I got the bill. Anyway, on to the food: ordered two meat plate (brisket and pulled pork) with fries and coles slaw. Fries were the highlight of the meal. Hot, crispy, seasoned...awesome. Cole slaw was good....but it was super tangy (vinegary) for my taste. Don't get it wrong, it was good, just hard to eat all of it thanks to the tang. On to the meat. Got a pretty good sized pile of pulled pork and a couple slices of brisket. Both meats were lukewarm at best. Pork was dry (thank goodness for the NC vinegar sauce). The brisket made up for the porks dryness, it was extra greasy and extra fatty. Like, for real, do you think people are going to eat the fat layer between the lean point meat and the fatty upper meat? Yeah, not me. But since the brisket was also lukewarm (more like lukecold) it really didn't make a difference. I did think the Vision BBQ sauce tasted pretty good. If Brianna would have come back by after I got my meal I would have sent it back....and probably would have just left without worrying over a replacement, or a comp, or anything. Secondary issue: went to the mens room. It was just nasty. You get once shot to make an impression, and this one was not good. Would not/will not repeat.
