Archie completed our kitchen refinishing project about 2 1/2 years ago. He knows cabinetry and did a great job with building small window cabinets in that awkward space between the ceiling and the existing cabinets, giving our kitchen an elevated look. The reason for only 3 stars is that after 2 1/2 years we are seeing the light stain and clear finish is coming off on random doors and not just in obvious areas near the sink and water, but on the other side of the kitchen opposite the sink. We reached out about the issue and he was responsive at first, and blamed it issue on a bad batch of clear finish and told us to go to Vista paint and by a spray can of clear coat and apply another coat! I'm sorry, that does not seem like a smart or the right way to solve the issue! We took about 12 doors off the cabinets and drove them to his shop as a way to "meet him 1/2 way" and make it as convenient for him to redo the stain and apply a more durable finish this time. Well, we had a miscommunication on the meeting time (he gave us a 20 min window to meet him at his shop) and I thought he said after a certain time, and when we arrived he was not there. After a couple short text exchanges , we got the distinct feeling Archie was not interested nor intended to fix the issue with the cabinet finish. Good cabinets but lousy finish! If your cabinet stain and finish does not hold up, after a couple of years, you'll be on your own! read more

I am so glad that I found Archie's Doors and Cabinets! I am so thrilled with the results! They are stunning and beautiful. I'll start by saying I can not speak regarding Archie's craftsmanship or quality. We did not get that far. What I can speak to is his poor management skills and lack of punctuality. Here is my experience: We made an initial appointment for cabinet inspection. He later canceled "because of rain". I'm not a contractor, but I'm guessing kitchen cabinet inspections happen indoors? (1st red flag, I know) He texted me a possible back up date and time, but I called and verbally agreed to an alternate date. He showed up on his suggested date anyway and left a business card on doorstep. No message, no call, nothing. I waited for him to arrive on our verbally agreed upon date. When he no showed, I promptly texted him. He admitted to the error and offered another date and time. This time we agreed through texts (easier to verify, I would imagine). Nope, he shows up early. Sometimes this is a good thing, but when you have to plan your days around work and kids event calendars, every minute is important. I was alerted of his arrival on my doorbell camera and security cameras. I attempted to speak to him through the camera, then by phone, finally by text. I left him a voice message and text informing him I was literally 3 minutes away and would be there asap. He chose not to wait and left before our appointment time. I tried once more to reach him by phone, which he quickly dismissed with an auto text "sorry I can't talk right now". Petty. Archie may very well be a nice man and a decent person, and perception is subject. But, facts are facts. The truth is labor is in short supply right now, and he can probably pick and choose his projects. But this is no excuse to be dismissive to a potential client. Especially when the client is being very flexible to accommodate his poor scheduling practices. I'm pretty sure I dodged a bullet not hiring this contractor. Think about these facts when you consider this one. read more

Called Archie because I wanted someone with a long history and someone with a sense of integrity. Reading about his company on Yelp, I got the impression he was just that. He is. His crew of Israel and Blair know exactly what their roles are and execute them well. I had my kitchen cabinets refaced having the frames painted. Really enjoyed working with Archie and his team when recently refacing our cabinets. I found him here on Yelp and he was prompt to reply to my quote request. He followed up with photos of prior projects he had a done and came in with a very reasonable price. He came out and assessed and measured. They did most of the work on the cabinet doors in their shop so were only at our place for two 1/2 days getting them all installed. Mixed review. Used this company for a very small job of replacing a cabinet front panel. Completed to my satisfaction. I messed it up again and tried to arrange a replacement, but just couldn't connect and there was no follow-up. I decided to give him additional business to install crown moulding and repair the panel front. He missed the appointment and hung up on me when I tried to call him. We had our kitchen cabinets re stained and refinished. Archie had great suggestions for the new drawer pulls and stain color. Israel did the work at our house and I was happy to see that everything is taped off and plastic hung for cleanliness. Our cabinets have a 10 year old refacing, I was worried that it wouldn't take sanding and re staining but it looks beautiful. They even did a new pantry for me with roll out drawers. We had a great experience. My daughter caused a small fire in our kitchen which damaged the bottom of just one of our upper cabinets. Archie and crew (Israel) did a fabulous job repairing the damage and refinishing all of the cabinets to match within the insurance adjusters estimate. April 17, 2014 Hi! I want to recommend Cabinets by Archie. I hired Archie to reface my kitchen cabinets and I could not be happier. He came to my home and gave me an estimate after showing me new cabinet doors, drawers and possible wood stains. The original cabinets were left intact because the wood was still in good condition. All I needed were new doors, new drawers and new hinges. After I chose what I wanted and we agreed on a price, he gave me an estimated date of when I could expect the work to start. I asked for references and I called one of them and he recommended Archie's final work product. Archie builds each drawer in his shop in Escondido. He invited me there to see the doors once they arrived so that I could see them in person and verify that this style was the one I wanted. Then he showed me possible colors and had examples for me to view. Israel is his assistant and he is the person who actually did the work in my home. Israel is a creative craftsman. He first stripped all the remaining cabinets in the kitchen of the original stain, thoroughly sanded them down and then painted them with the new color stain to create the new look I wanted. He made sure the stain of the new cabinet doors and drawers matched exactly the new stain shade on the original cabinets. Israel takes pride in his work and takes the time needed to produce a professional finish. He also painted my kitchen. The final product was terrific. The installation process takes time and is worth it. Israel left my home spotless. I appreciate all the work that went into making my new kitchen truly beautiful. This small shop in Escondido does beautiful work! Archie is the designer, and Israel is the master craftsman. We hired Archie to help us with a plan to replace our old oak built-in cabinets in the kitchen, laundry room, bar, linen storage, and two bathrooms. Three of these areas had extensive granite counter tops and backsplash areas. Archie advised that we re-veneer these areas so as to retain the granite features and install new doors and drawers. The laundry room and bathrooms we decided could have new cabinets, which Archie helped us specify and said he would install. We ordered the cabinets from Lowes; and, with a sample of the color and style, Archie ordered parts for the existing cabinets to be refaced and Israel exactly matched the stain and finish. Israel's finish on the refaced cabinets we retained was beautiful. He did a precision job of installing, leveling, and aligning the new cabinets. You can hardly tell the difference in the refaced and the new cabinets, although the refaced ones actually look better in fit and finish. Both Archie and Israel had great attitudes and were very accommodating during the entire upgrade process. They made recommendations on little detail improvements and were good at problem solving with difficult existing areas. Customer satisfaction is their prime goal, and they were extremely quick at responding to follow up. We are very happy with their work and highly recommend them. read more
