I interviewed several contractors for our master bathroom remodel, and I am so thrilled with the final result we received from Real Deal. Note- they do full remodeling not just cabinets. Also- I looked here before hiring them and any negative reviews I say were several years old with apparently a different owner. Quality- I am a pretty particular customer as I am in a visual design adjacent field myself. I was very happy with everything!! My expectations were exceeded in our final result. Not only did the team execute very well, but Valerie and Eric had input from start to finish that was very valuable and practical. Small details on projects really matter and I really appreciated that they confirmed them and worked them with me when I had questions. They never steered us wrong!! Their subs were great, you can tell they all work together a lot and have a great rapport, which I really appreciated. Ethics/fair- There were some old DIY mistakes they discovered during demo on our job, and they took great care to make sure things were fixed correctly to be up to code and operating well, not just that they looked pretty. They did not upcharge/change order us on these things, and when we asked to add to the scope of work, the charges seemed fair to us. As a fellow business owner I really appreciated the straightforward and fair treatment and can tell they run things well. I was positive I wrote a review as soon as our kitchen remodel was finished in late 2018, but I can't find it. Berry's team did such a great job that I have to acknowledge it even two years later. They deserve accolades for their work and the professionalism of the subs. My husband and I were very pleased with the result and happy with the price. It was also done so quickly that friends said we didn't suffer enough for a remodel! In March this year, we had Real Deal Cabinets come back to do our laundry room, finishing just as quarantine was put in place. Once again we are thrilled with the result. Our laundry room still had the original cabinets from 1981 when the house was first built. While we were waiting for our remodel we even had them held up with a steel bar! It's hard to have photos do justice to this remodel, because it's a small room, but the transformation was dramatic. There is now a tall cabinet on one wall for supplies and vacuum cleaner. They even replaced the door with a pocket door, which created more room. Real Deal's team have master plumbers and can basically do anything you want within the remodel. We went with Real Deal Cabinets because Barry had a good bid and he seemed like a really nice guy. The fact that he lived down the street was a plus because I thought it would be easy for him to check in on the job. Well I was WRONG! Barry was here the first day to start demo and collect a check. That was it. Now there was a horrible family tragedy during our job so his absence is completely understandable after that. It was everything before that was bad. We had to pay over $2,000 to fix some of the mistakes. Still have some cabinets that are off center and do not close right. We do like Jim and his tile guy though. We recently ordered our kitchen cabinets through Berry at Real Deal. We were on a budget and did extensive research to find someone that could give us the best quality for the best price. Berry was our last quote of about 5-6 quotes of other local companies. Before that, we were pretty sure that we would be going with another company. After meeting with Berry, not only did his pricing beat the other company, his attitude and demeanor alone was very pleasant. When working with someone on such a big addition/investment on your home, I feel that customer service is huge! I wanted someone we were comfortable working with and speaking to in the event there were any issues. Our cabinets were received on time and delivered as promised. He made sure that everything was ordered to fit our timeline as requested. Although there were a few issues; a door hung to open the wrong way, wrong size trash can bin, and then a physical flaw on a door, he was so quick to respond and resolve the issue with no problems! To me, that alone is five star service. A kitchen remodel is stressful enough. It really has to be said when people are inconsiderate of others. I've read many of the other reviews raving about Berry which is mostly what drew me in hoping to get the same service, but unfortunately, nothing even remotely close. I'm in the market for new bathroom vanities and after reading about this supposedly great service, I contacted them. I received voice mail from a person who said to leave your contact information along with your zip code. I left my name, number, what work I was interested in hiring for and my zip code along with the city (Carmel Valley). No response so I tried "request a consult" on their Yelp page. It said they have a 100% response rate and take approximately 7 hours. Have to contact Yelp about this because this was not at all the case after two attempts. I sent in two separate consultation requests; one on 6/18 and another on 6/19 and only received a reply to the 6/19 request today, 6/23. And the reply from 6/23 was only to tell me they don't service my area. This is interesting since the very first time I called and left a voice mail, I told them my exact zip code and the city was Carmel Valley. That was back on 6/17. On Friday, 6/19, I received a text message saying Berry was out of town and would contact me next week. On Monday, I did get a phone call from Berry saying he was following up with me but when I tried calling back, all I ever got was voicemail. I left a few messages but never heard anything back until today, 6/23, saying I live out of their service area. By the way, on the Yelp map, their service area seems to end at Via Del Valle in Del Mar and I'm just about a mile away off Del Mar Heights. Yes, it is out of their service area; just seems odd they wouldn't go another mile for a customer? It's not like I live downtown or somewhere incredibly far. And again, it isn't as if I didn't tell Berry the first time I called, a week ago. Seems to me a very simple thing someone could have answered in a timely manner. The reply I received through the Yelp consultation said "been out of town with my family with no service" yet Berry managed to text message me. I guess there was service? And if you really are away for a few days and there's going to be no service... how about changing your voice mail to say you are unavailable for a few days but will be returning calls as soon as you return on (whatever date)??? Bottom line, I've talked to quite a few friends about this and all have said the same thing... don't do business with someone like this. Can't return a phone call within a reasonable period of time (within 24 hours), don't let people know you are away and/or unavailable and keep them going for days only to tell them you are out of their service area (even if it is just one mile). Yes, there are people who rave about Berry but it also seems as though there are other people how experienced the same lack of communication as I did so this clearly isn't an isolated incident. Berry, you didn't seem to think it was important enough to respond so I'm sure you'll understand why you get reviews like this. Wish you hadn't wasted my time and just let me know from the first time I called (when I gave you my zip code and city) that I was out of your service area. No need for you to contact me further. This is exactly what happened and I don't want to work with you. read more

We just moved to Carlsbad (San Diego) from Houston, and didn't have any resources or contacts for contractors. We needed to do a complete remodel of our kitchen, parts of the downstairs, floors, paint, baseboards, and the master bath before we moved in, to avoid living through construction. It was a pretty daunting thing to accomplish, as our new home is just over 5000 sq feet. Our real estate agent suggested we speak with Valerie at Real Deal Cabinets. It was a huge project, and we were a little scared about doing this amount of work from out of state using FaceTime and zoom - but we are so thrilled with results. The team at Real Deal knocked it out of the park for us. They managed the job from start to finish, acquired all the materials and appliances for us, and were able to take "inspiration pictures" from us and turn our outdated Tuscan Style home into an updated oasis. We took out walls and arched pathways, moved the sink and plumbing to the island, and completely rearranged the master bath. We even had cabinets built in to our closet and used the remainder of our countertop stone as closet counters. Every detail was taken care of, including multiple custom woodworking pieces (a 48" exhaust hood wrapped in white oak, 6 foot solid oak floating shelves, and custom island). The tile work in our master is amazing. We've owned a lot of homes, and it's pretty rare that so much detail went into the shower planning and execution - leaving us to marvel at the detail. We didn't think a curbless shower was going to be possible because the floor was made from engineered I-joists, but they got an engineer to plan it out, and managed to create the space. We couldn't be happier with the work, and when our new neighbors have stopped by to meet us and of course check out our remodel, they have been shocked that we accomplished this entire job for about $125,000. My wife and I are pretty private people - neither of us choosing to use yelp or any of the other apps like next door, but when Valerie asked us for a review, we decided it was worth the risk to our privacy as a thank you for all Real Deal Accomplished on our behalf. We hired Read Deal Cabinets in San Marcos to do a complete remodel of our new home that we purchased in Ocean Hills June, 2021. After requesting 3 estimates from various cabinet refacing companies, I saw an ad for Real Deal Cabinets. I called and requested an estimate to have my kitchen cabinets replaced vs. refaced. Their estimate came in lower than the lowest refacing bid I had received. Berry was quick to notice that I needed extra cabinet space. There was a lot of items on the counter. He suggested that I extend out my counter and add more Cabinetry to help alleviate congestion on the counters. I am so glad we did this! The Process: With Real Deal Cabinets, you go to the showroom and pick the cabinet's you want. Then you work around that, by designing your own kitchen. Go and purchase your countertops and backsplash, etc. I spent a lot of time doing this. Making sure to have the right faucet, pulls, etc. I also wanted to make sure I wasn't the bottleneck slowing down the remodel. The Outcome: My older dark kitchen has turned into a beachy, easy-to-navigate, easy to keep clean, beautiful, functional space in our house. It looks just as I pictured it in my head. With Real Deal Cabinets, you pick what you want! I opted for all drawers on the lower cabinets and an island of cabinets in a darker color. I added a spice drawer and pull out trash as well. Berry suggested that I move my stove over 6 inches to give me a little more functioning space between the oven and the cooktop. This has made a huge difference. Final Thoughts: I would say the entire kitchen remodel took about three weeks from start to finish. My husband and i will be touching up wall paint around the cabinets this weekend as the new cabinets are slightly off from the old ones. This is not a deal breaker at all. Overall I'm satisfied with our new kitchen and cabinets. Real Deal cabinets undercut Home Depot's quote by about $5000. I was looking for quality cabinets at an affordable price and Real Deal delivered just that. BUT........I feel I must make some constructive criticism because my experience with Berry and his company did not follow what other Yelp reviews are reporting. In fact, some of the Yelp reviews seem fake when you start reading them. They are just way too positive for something as complicated as kitchen renovations. My first impression with Berry was not good. I scheduled an appointment in which he couldn't make and never bothered to call me. I waited several minutes for his arrival. He eventual showed up but he was neither apologetic or helpful in answering my questions. He seemed completely uninterested. It was very difficult getting information on their process. There was very little planning or discussion about our kitchen. Berry wanted us to put 60% down without any written quote, contract and/or basic kitchen plan which was absurd. We worked directly with his former partner, JC. Nice guy but made so many mistakes in the planing and ordering process. Installation wasn't the best either. The guy who installed our cabinets was a machine. He clearly had skill but never once stopped to perhaps ask questions. The layout of our kitchen changed slightly and what wasn't taken into consideration was placement of wall outlets. Another mistake by JC but no quality control exhibited by the installer who literally just cut out rectangles in the cabinets to access the outlets. (see pictures) Also, there was another laborer who was installing the door hinges to the cabinets. He made so many mistakes, Half of our cabinets have these round white stickers covering large mistaken holes. Some of the stickers are coming off now. At the near end of our remodel, JC kept asking for the remainder of the balance however the work was not 100% completed. Next, JC either quit or was fired by Berry. Berry started calling us for the rest of the money. Again, not everything was complete. We held out until all the work was finished and then paid promptly but a few days later we noticed a lot of little touchups were not taken into consideration that we had to finish on our own. Like I said before, I'm thrilled I was able to get all wood cabinets at a great price. I question the Yelp reviews of Real Deal because no one has mentioned JC. They all just praise Berry. Also, when I first posted this review, I was contacted by Yelp. Someone had flagged this review claiming I was not a customer. Hmmm, I wonder who could of done that? Berry? Seriously, maybe you should of contacted me separately in a mature fashion. I still gave you a decent review. Nevertheless, in the end I'm happy with my kitchen. If I had to do it over again, it's hard to say if I would go with Real Deal again. I definitely would search harder for another company like this but who knows, price is always a deciding factor. Our plans included all of the usual areas like the kitchen and bathrooms as well as some unique needs like adding a hallway and rethinking our staircase and some new folding doors and windows. Take a look at the before and after pictures. I can tell you without a doubt we made the right choice in a contractor! My wife and I are very detail oriented and huge on communication and schedules. These are very important items for contractors to consider and Berry and his crew hit every mark. Right from the outset he understood our vision, accurately bid it out, answered all of our questions and had patience with us as things came up, provided opinions and solutions on some design challenges and most importantly hit the mark on key progress dates and the final completion date. I had received a couple of referrals to Real Deal cabinets and the owner Barry so I thought I was good to go. Bottom line is the project was a disaster. Demo went fine but then the problems started. The design that we signed off on was not actually something that would fit (mismeasured by the contractor- used a similar model home layout instead of actually measuring ours)). Then they tried to piece meal it back together. The biggest problem was the owner was rarely if ever here to supervise and the workers he used were subpar. After completion I have had doors and drawers which are not working after 30 days. I reached out to Barry 30 days ago and he said he would come "next week" to fix. We have had the same text 3 times and it is always "next week". I have texted 3 times this week and he has yet to reply. I would never refer this company. read more
