Although Dr. Oden gave my IRWS very good care, when she moved on I was flipped to the senior vet, then to a spanking new vet who had graduated just a few months before. On this occasion, my dog waited 25 minutes for the tech in a claustrophobic room without a mat or rug (new doc didn't like the mat and had removed it, I was told). The tech mentioned she had been helping a colleague clip nails and lost track of time. It wasn't an apology for her tardiness, just an aside. The 20ish vet came in masked, and when I went to shake his hand he told me he was sick. Since I am immuno-compromised, this was not a great start. After telling me my dog's heart and lungs sounded great, and her teeth were gorgeous, he lectured me about her weight (appropriate and some good info). He then began explaining how to handle geriatric dogs. I listen for a minute, confused, before saying, "She is 4." He said he had mixed her up with his previous patient. She was lightly sedated for the appointment as previous vets had recommended (anxiety!) but she was right in front of him, is AKC, and her g-g-grand father was a contestant at Westminster--in no way does she look grey, stiff, or snaggle-toothed. I then brought up anxiety medicines. I wanted a change due to tremors and stomach issues in reaction to fluoxetine. Doc was stumped. He did not know of another anti-anxiety med. He suggested the brand-name version of the same medicine. I said her reactions indicated we need to try another entire family of meds and suggested a couple my VetMD search had turned up. He said he would do some research and email me. This is bread-and-butter veterinary care for a city-vet in the 21c, but after all, he was new. He did email a couple of days later, and suggested the only other dog-approved anxiety med (lots of human drugs are used off-label) with a very long taper, due to concerns about life-threatening "serotonin syndrome." In this he was confused. Serotonin syndrome is a reaction to too much serotonin-increasing medication (such as a dose increase), not abrupt withdrawal. Abrupt withdrawal is not as serious, though uncomfortable (brain zaps), and is called "discontinuation syndrome." I did not correct him (I regret that), but told him I was familiar with serotonin syndrome and wouldn't risk my dog's health. Ignoring my statement that the tablets were scored and easy to cut, he called in unneeded smaller mg tablets of her original medication not once, but twice. I cancelled them. Since the dog was already getting her med only 40% of the time, and I am a VERY experienced dog owner AND married to a psychiatrist, I was able to write him sooner than he anticipated (three weeks) to say she was almost weaned off it and since I was doing my monthly Costco run the next weekend, it would be convenient if the med were called in so I could pick it up then. This sparked an ANGRY email from him berating me for endangering my dog. I am guessing he has never gone off an antidepressant personally; his five week taper might (?) have been textbook, but not necessary in this case. She had been carefully monitored and had had no negative symptoms. We were switching to a med in another class, so doubling up serotonin wasn't a concern. Nevertheless, he said he would NOT prescribe until the previously specified date 2 weeks on. I wrote very politely and said that that would be fine. It would be ok for her to wait, then I could see if she had out-grown the issues. Only he did NOT call it in. My dog spent a miserable Christmas month full of separation anxiety, reactiveness to other dogs and visitors, and fear during New Year fireworks. Two months after my visit on October 30, I returned to Chambers Creek, a clinic that I had used years ago for previous dogs, which incidentally charged 50% less for a visit. Not until this clinic had requested my current dog's records did Met Vet call-in the new medication to Costco. This was a horrible and avoidable experience for my dog. Over and over this new vet displayed his own lack of knowledge and experience and his lack of respect for me, my knowledge and experience, and my ability to care for my pet. Worst of all, he did not follow through on his promise to prescribe in a timely manner. As a result my dog was left unmedicated during the most stressful month of the year. This inexperienced doctor needs to be overseen carefully by senior doctors. Clearly, this oversight is missing. I am concerned for dogs who go to him for ordinary medical concerns, such as separation anxiety.

The THOUSANDS of animals they help for such low fees is amazing. Taking care of fur babies is very expensive and they help make the cost way less expensive than most. There would be a lot less pet owners that can do the right thing for the wellbeing of the animal and the pet population if NW Spay & Neuter wasn't available. It takes a different kind of person to handle all the problems they see. The job has to take a toll on their heart strings. Now that they have joined with Auburn Valley Humane Society it will only get better. Once I got my appointment as with many of you I confirmed all the information and waited for the email. That email arrived (thank you for the email) and we showed up. It was raining and nasty out for at least two of my furry babies but they came out in raincoats with umbrellas and took the information during the Covid times. They took my critters in in a timely fashion and all went well with and after the surgery. I am not sure if they still charge for the cone but just be prepared and have your own before you drop off your baby. I find them to be more expensive elsewhere vs. when they provide one. So in short, I am pleased and have every faith that my babies are well taken care of. I highly recommend their services and will be taking my fur babies here again as I rescue others. Good Job Team! Please don't assume that the negative reviews are simply people being difficult or impossible to please. These are real people, just like me, who love their animals and trusted this clinic to take care of them. I brought my cat in because he was walking oddly and had a fever. After the examination, the doctor told me she couldn't find anything wrong with him and couldn't understand where the fever was coming from. We were sent home with antibiotics for my cat. I was left believing that they had thoroughly examined him and that there was nothing obvious causing his symptoms. The next day, I decided to carefully examine my cat's body myself because I was still very concerned about him. I was shocked to find open wounds and scratches on his head. (Photos attached )These were not hidden or impossible to notice. I was very surprised that after a professional veterinary examination, I was told they could not find anything wrong. I paid for the examination and additional testing because I trusted the clinic to properly evaluate my cat. Unfortunately, I ended up finding the physical injuries myself after being told there was nothing wrong.I went back to the clinic because I wanted someone to take responsibility for what happened and, more importantly, they giving me options for how to properly address the problem with my cat. The money was never the point for me. I wanted accountability and for the clinic to acknowledge that something had been missed. I spoke with the assistant manager, who asked me to give her a couple of days to look into the situation and talk to the Manager and get back to me. She never did. I had to physically return after 12 days to the clinic again because I never received a call or any follow-up. When I finally spoke with the manager, he gave me one explanation that how this could've been missed... After a long conversation he told me that he was not going to give me any refund because doing so would mean admitting that the clinic/vet had made a mistake. That was extremely frustrating and disappointing to hear. As a pet owner, this experience has been incredibly upsetting. I trusted this clinic with my cat's health, and I expected a thorough examination and proper follow-up. Being told that they "didn't find anything wrong," only for me to find open wounds and scratches on my cat the very next day, is something I find extremely difficult to accept.The lack of accountability and communication is what has disappointed me the most. I want to make one thing very clear we were never doing this to get a refund but the least they could've done after failing the physical examination...What we wanted was accountability.There were several reasonable options the clinic could have offered after the situation came to light. For example, they could have offered to perform another thorough physical examination to make sure there were no additional wounds or injuries that had been missed, or they could have offered to clean and properly treat the wound to help prevent it from becoming infected. Even simply taking the time to examine him again and make sure he was okay would have shown us that they genuinely cared about making things right. I truly hope sharing my experience helps another person avoid going through the same frustration, disappointment, and worry that we experienced.Please read the negative reviews. Don't automatically assume these people are lying or exaggerating. Behind those reviews are pet owners who love their animals just as much as we love ours.We trusted this clinic and we felt let down.

We unfortunately have had to re-home 2 animals and was worried that the office would not continue to seeing our other animals but they did! After recovering from multiple surgeries we were able to adopt again and the office welcomed them happily. We have surgeries, x-rays and vaccines done. Hospital on Durango street, South Tacoma Way. The bill was $371.18 for the following: Outpatient exam: $130.00 Outpatient procedure: $51.00 (from shaving the fur around the puncture wound which was less than half an inch in diameter) Pharmacy: $129.00 (antibiotics, two different kind of pain pills?, crazy!) Service fee (for what?): $60.00 Total $371.81. Insane! This is a rip off! I wish our sitter did not take her to this place. It is not an emergency. She got a small puncture and it did not seem to bother her. I think antibiotic would be sufficient if that. Our dog still runs around, plays on the dog park this morning, and still eats normally. Upon arriving at Tacoma Animal Hospital, the staff was kind and sympathetic. Without doing alot of tests ( my decision) and taking her to a 24 hr emergency hospital, the Dr said that Mickie most likely had a saddle thrombus blood clot which was causing her pain and the inability to stand. I have no regrets taking Mickie there and feel that the Dr and staff had her and mine best interests at heart. I will recommend them for yearly care and diagnosis of ailments. As a final note, after making the hardest decision in my life with tears in my eyes I received a card in the mail today with kind condolences and sympathy signed by the Dr's and staff.
