Nice little store. The chocolate is good. Only complaint is we had to stop by 3 times to get there while they were open. The hours listen aren't at all when they are open. Which is a little frustrating when you promised kids you would stop by and pick up items. So make sure you call again when planning to go. Other than that, they do a lovely job on small & large orders. I suspect they're probably really the best for larger quantities and plan to use them for an upcoming anniversary party. The chocolate, yeah it's good. But god freaking help you if you order online and your package gets misdelivered-as we all know can happen. This company will not help and will basically tell you tough crap you are on your own. Nearly $80 in chocolate that "poof" gone. read more

5-17-2021 My friend and I arrived here for some great chocolate, good stuff, and super nice employee. We purchased easter eggs leftover's at a substantial discount, well worth the price paid as well as regular chocholate. Prices for others seemed high so be prepared for some sticker shock. I would say taste of chocolate's purchased a 5 star, employee is definitely a 5 star, cost of chocholate a 3 1/2 star but 5 star for discounted easter eggs. If you like easter eggs, get them while they are dirt cheap. read more

I probably never should have stopped here... because now I'm ALWAYS going to want to stop here! I have been driving past this fancy pink chocolate store my whole life and never went inside. Today we were looking for something to do close to home when we decided to give it a try. The building looks much bigger from the outside than the store actually is. However, that dosen't mean much. Inside they have everything you could imagine! They had some things I had never seen like chocolate covered blueberries and malt balls. Of course they also had tons of fun molded shapes and all the basics like chocolate covered pretzels. I came with my husband and daughter. We left with a bunch of assorted chocolates, chocolate covered oreos, almond bark, and a dinosaur egg filled with chocolate rocks. Everything was fantastic. The coconut chocolate cup was by far my favorite. The coconut seemed to be toasted before it was put in the chocolate. The almond cup was great too. It was filled with multiple full sized almonds. I loved the fact that the chocolate wasn't too hard to bite but not so soft that it melts instantly. Also, my daughter thought the dinosaur egg was the coolest thing she had ever seen. Dorothy's Candies has been selling hand-crafted chocolates and other candies since 1947, and when I drove past their pink-colored building, I could not resist visiting. I was not greeted when I entered the store, walked around the store, or approached the cash register, but I can overlook this slight lack of customer service because the candies taste GOOD. A box of 25 chocolate cherry cordials cost $34, which is a bit expensive, but I am really enjoying the taste of them. I also really like the peanut brittle, chocolate raisin patty, and rice krispie pop. The only candy that I did not enjoy was the sugar plums, because they tasted a bit bitter. I ate one sugar plum and threw away the rest. My husband would not try even one because of their smell. When I was at the cash register, the cashier could not scan the barcode on the package for the popcorn ball. I told him that the sign said $1, but he gave it to me for free as a Christmas gift. read more

My grandmother suggested truffles from Dorothy's Candies to replace our cookie table that we could no longer have due to COVID and it was perfect! First the truffles were amazing, we did a medley of cherry, pumpkin, rose, and original/fudge. The boxes were packaged individually with a ribbon that matched my wedding colors and a cute little note we were able to customize for our wedding! I'm surprised that I'm the first to tip and review. This shop has been around for a while, since 1948, according to the bag I received. Technically, the location is in White Oak, not McKeesport. You can't miss the building, because it's pink. There is a nice assortment of Swiss chocolates. Gummy candies and flavored popcorn are also available. I noticed that the most customers were picking up fairly large chocolate orders for work/gifts. A free chocolate sample was offered by the staff. They were nice, by the way. I came for the salted caramel toffee because that's what I look for at any chocolate shop. So, if you're not purchasing pre-packaged chocolate, you'll have to ask the price per pound to mix and match. 3 caramel toffee pieces and 3 caramel pieces cost about $7.50. I'll let you know how it tastes. read more

I was involved in a project where we traveled to several chocolate factories in the Northeast (Taza, Lake Champlain, Sanders, etc.) and in my opinion, Dorothy's has the best tasting chocolate! The quality of pieces that they produce in milk and dark are consistently fresh and "snap" just like good chocolate should. The hidden gem of White Oak, PA I suppose! The assorted milk and dark chocolate box was excellent! A little ashamed to say that I ate the entire thing by myself. I plan on giving them as gifts during the holidays. There was something in there to satisfy every kind of chocolate lover! For the quality, the prices seem to compare to its high-end competitors so the price for the assorted box was appropriate. Can't wait to get my hands (mouth?) on one of their chocolate pizzas that I keep hearing about! read more

Indeed! Dorothy's Candies is as good as it gets. I totally agree with the other reviewer who said that Dorothy's is even better than most higher priced chocolates. It is truly a premium chocolate -- but not pricey. It's simply crazy to me that some people prefer that very ordinary chocolate from Canonsburg. No comparison! Dorothy's chocolate is much better -- if you buy an assortment, you get some real nut clusters and fruits -- not muddled middles. Their cherry cordials are unparalleled! read more

I was so impressed by the selection of sugar free products that they make themselves! We had a fabulous conversation with Dorothy's son who makes the chocolates! They have a great store with a lot of interesting confections including soft licorice dipped in chocolate that my husband bought. I bought a bunch of sugar free stuff since I can't have sugar anymore. But, that hasn't stopped my cravings for chocolate. Caramels, bark, bridge mixes, bon bons, and bars. They were out of NSA turtles, unfortunately, but I'll look for them on line. Loved this place. read more

We have been buying Dorothy's chocolates for years and are terribly disappointed this year. My husband bought me a box of dark chocolate fruit and nuts (as he has done for the past 20+ years) for Christmas. 3/4 of the box was raisins and about 10% nuts. Many of the chocolates had that whitish look that indicates "old" chocolates. This is all unsatisfactory considering there $50 price for the box of 2 pounds. After years of enjoying Dorothy's chocolates, we will be trying some other high-end chocolates. read more
