I've been a client of Kari (and Dosha) since 2017 and felt compelled to give this review. I had previously liked what Kari did with my hair (full deep brown highlights on a bi-yearly basis). Her quality of service has been diminishing for some time, but my recent experience has led me to write this review. I came in to get my hair colored before my wedding about two weeks ago, which I truly regret. After asking Kari for essentially the same treatment as we've always done, she used a new color mix, barely colored my hair, and charged me $200+ (despite me showing her multiple pictures). Kari has done my hair at least 15 times, so this was very surprising. My sense is that she just got lazy and stopped listening as I was a long term client. She then offered me a redo, which I accepted. Unfortunately, she rushed through the entire redo, heating my hair excessively to lighten it, to the point of it becoming very brassy. I have dark black hair without color in it, so this is very contrasting with my natural tone. When I requested a refund (after two appointments where Kari did not listen to what I was looking for), the salon informed me that because I requested a refund I could no longer be a client at this salon (refunds are against their policy, supposedly). My bachelorette party is in two weeks and my wedding is in 2 months, and Kari and the staff's lack of attention to quality has created a lot of unnecessary stress for me. Thankfully, I was able to find an alternate salon to clean up Kari's mess. Kari is a master stylist, so for someone at her level to provide such poor service says a lot about the entire salon. Overall, the lack of emphasis on quality is something not worth paying $200+ for at this business. On top of the coloring service, the team was truly unprofessional in the way they handled this situation. 0/10 stars, and buyer beware. read more

I had a consultation for a new color scheduled with Kristina. While she did run slightly behind, the front desk was on top of it and kept me in the loop. Kristina was very knowledgeable and professional. I was really impressed with her consultation skills and warm but confident demeanor. Long before the Beaverton location opened, I'd been a Dosha customer for many years. However, my most recent experience will likely be my last. Though it's been convenient that the salon shifted to an online appointment system, they should take more care to ensure that customers are charged the rate at which they booked their appointment. I recently made an appointment with an entry level stylist with a starting rate of $35. Since the previous person I'd consistently visited left, I've been trying different stylists at the salon to find a good fit. While washing my hair, there were multiple times where both ears got solid splashes of water in them and the actual wash didn't go all the way down to the roots to feel completely clean. The cut itself ended up average, at best. With naturally fine texture and thin, long hair, styling requires products to hold any short of shape or to even discern a style. The only things used were a heat protectant and thickening agent. No volumizing tonic, no mousse, no hairspray... I had a flat head of hair with indiscernible face framing layers. And when I went to pay for the lackluster experience, I was charged 47% more than the rate I booked online because the stylist's rate had just increased. It wasn't the stylist's fault for mismanagement of their website, so it didn't feel worth it to take it up with her. But adding insult to injury, I was also charged twice for the service. To their credit, they immediately contacted me to refund it back but I had to verbally provide my credit card information over the phone which I didn't relish in sharing private information like that. Popped in to buy a toning lotion - stood at the register for 5+ minutes - no one came to the front or even acknowledged me. When someone finally came to the register to help she was only there to help her client - finally she said someone would be right with me. I finally left and bought it on Amazon. DOSHA SALON SPAS Note Dosha's 3% surcharge on your receipt. Businesses the size of Dosha are required by the Oregon Dept of Revenue to pay a Corporate Activity Tax or CAT. The problem for me is though OREREV requires Dosha to pay 0.55 % of corporate business, Dosha charges 3%.....more than 5 times as much. I have questioned this surcharge more than once and am always stonewalled, nobody knows anything. But I do. It's a money grab, an extra 2.45% because they can. Shameful. I booked an appointment for an all-over color at Dosha Beaverton several days out. I had explained to the receptionist who booked me that it's an all-over gray coverage root to tip. I arrived at my appt almost 10 minutes late. They took me back and discussed what I wanted with my hair. After we had looked at color swatches the stylist informed me that it was only possible to do a root touch-up as I was late. She explained they have a 15 min "grace period" which I was well within. The stylist went on that grey coverage can take longer to process so she wouldn't have time to do it all. (With that explanation it makes no sense that they weren't able to provide the assured service, as even by their own timeline I was well within the boundaries.) I explained that when I booked my appt I was completely transparent about what I wanted- an all over color with the intent of covering any grey. Still, the stylist insisted that she could only do a root touch up as her schedule is fully booked today and she didn't want to run late at all. It is obvious to anyone that I don't need my roots touched up, I've never dyed my hair before. There's no grey line. Furthermore, the grey is sporadic, it's not like she's taking me from black to platinum. I drove 45 min to get there. I was treated poorly and like a number. My goal was to get my hair done before a date tonight. This particular stylists feelings didn't care about the facts; that I had booked my appt for all over coverage to mask grey, that I was within their acceptance time frame, that I was happy and willing to give my time and money for time and services. She told me I could reschedule, do a root touch up and come back (and pay additional money) for the rest of my hair a different day. Or go somewhere else. I have had positive experiences with Dosha in the past. So I hope readers don't necessarily think my negative experience will be their experience. However, it's true that one bad egg can spoil the bunch. There are plenty of other places my money will spend, so I will certainly not be back. I booked a haircut with master stylist Kari and I regret it. She did not listen to me, dismissed what I asked for, and took double the length off requested. I had very long thick hair down past my waist to about my butt, I came asked for a trim and to take no more 6" off the longest portion, and left with my hair about my bra line in a style I didn't request. She didn't consult with me before immediately hacking off my hair and then again tried say she didn't do what she had literally just done. I'm so infuriated and frustrated because my hair is a point of pride. It will take years to grow back. She cut at least 10" off if not closer to 12". I wish I had never booked the appointment and now I'm out $97. read more

I never review but am making my first one ever as a PSA that this salon is TERRIBLE. I came in with bleached hair that had a bit of warmth in the roots and asked to have it toned out. I ended up with ORANGE hair. They made me feel like I was crazy for not liking the end result. At the beginning, they handed me a form to sign and told me it was to confirm the price of my treatment. When I told them I was upset and with the end result they told me the form I signed actually was a waiver that they were not responsible for how the hair turns out. Do not make the same mistake. Booked a haircut appointment that included a blowout but when I got there my barber told me she didn't have enough time to blowout my hair even though it's something I paid for. Did not get the haircut I asked for and she did not take the time to make sure my hair was good and literally told me that it would be wonky and weird in some places. This Dosha and I learned like most Dosha's In the area have a bad reputation. Very spendy and if you go with the less experienced to save some money, you risk getting very poor results. This latest stylist I interviewed because she was the most experienced and most expensive, but after the previous 2 ruining my hair I wanted to try her out. I made it quite clear what I wanted but after the second appointment the price went up 35% if not more than what we agreed on. I've never spent more than $200 on an appointment, but I did and was appalled at the results. I asked for a re-do in the highlights as she gave me very dark low lights that I did not ask for. She said it would cost me $150 to put the blonde highlights- yes, not offering to fix what she did! This is a bait and switch company and I will never ever go back and take my experience and don't throw your money away. Dosha is a scam! read more

I was so excited to find an Aveda salon open. I. Starting a new job in Denver and currently live in Seattle. My appointment started late but that ended up not mattering cause it didn't take as long as anticipated. My stylist was Bri and she's newish but not straight out of school. She was able to use my formula and give a good number of highlights, but she didn't put them close to the scalp and didn't take out hair around my face to place the bleach on (only a few), so now I'm left with hair I can't pull.back because of very visible lines. Supposedly a master stylist oversees newer stylists but no one checked in or gave feedback. I'm really upset I'm stuck until I can find another salon when I move and pay all over again. read more

I came to this salon a few months back after the pandemic subsided allowing us to go back to salons. I felt that I was a good customer maybe there's something I said or did that they did not like? I am really not certain I know that I was put off because they charged $15 to put a little sanitizer on your hands and called it a service charge. I also was a bit upset because they did not honor the pure privilege point system which is a hallmark with all the Aveda salons that I have ever been to in the last almost 30 years. The pure privilege points system allows you to use points for things you buy so that you can get free haircuts, free colors or gifts from Aveda it's something that all the real Aveda's honor. However this salon, the Dosha corporation, sounds kind of Russian does not honor pure privilege points but calls themselves "an Aveda Concept Salon". I find this unusual as I go to a gym where the owner spends time and money washing towels and setting out sanitizer bottles and cleaning solutions for all the customers and she don't charge for this nor do other businesses it's part of doing business. Today I had an appointment on Monday and realized that nobody from the corporation had sent me a text confirmation or a phone call because this particular salon works very different than others it's a corporate office that handles everything so there's no personal touch they don't know who you are, it's not like a normal salon where the receptionist calls you and has a nice conversation chit chatting and reminding you about your appointment it's completely different. So since they are so mechanical and so impersonal you would think they would have all that stuff together. I never got a call or anything so today I was very scrambled, I left an hour early since I have a 2 1/2 hour drive so that I could call them from another location point where I could at least get something else done on the way in case someone screwed up and there was no appointment. When the corporate office opened I let them know, hey what kind of way is this to not call or text? They then said it was not their fault because my appointment was on a Monday they're not open on a Sunday. I said well why can't you call or text somebody on a Friday or Saturday morning and they basically let me know it's not their problem, it's mine! When I went into the salon I told the girl at the front desk and also the stylist about it I thought I would receive some sympathy for the situation instead they told me they can't be responsible for it and there's nothing they can do about it and that's just how it is. I proceeded to get quite upset because not only is the customer right but the customer is right when the customer is REALLY right and I was receiving no sympathy or understanding, a small effort for the fact that I would've driven 2 1/2 hours and had no appointment. I then proceeded to use the bathroom and then when I came out they let me know that they were uncomfortable with my demeanor and no longer wanted to serve me and not to come back to their salon!! Wow!! LILY HELMAR was so rude and it was HER decision to do this, I was shocked, this is how two faced she had become after all my services with her! That they no longer wanted to serve me and I had already driven 2 1/2 hours and waited 40 minutes in my car!! I've been there approximately six months with no problem and just because the corporate office did not text me or confirm their appointment they don't want me to come back. When I first walked in the young lady, FRANKIE did slip and said, "oh they do this all the time, it's been a problem" and rolled her eyes but then refrained back to the posture of oh I said nothing as if nothing was wrong. I have noticed that they have 19 out of 30 bad reviews which is really terrible already. And all of the Doshas have like three star reviews. So they are definitely doing something wrong LOL. I told my friend today about my experience and she said I already have heard it I went to Dosha once and had a horrible experience but I went to the one in Hawthorne and never went back. So this is common place now. I think anyone reading this will sympathize with my situation considering the facts. Again, I write very, very few negative reviews it just adds to the terrible reputation they already have. If You are out there looking for a stylist keep looking there are some fantastic salons in Portland that have Aveda services and I've already found one today and it's beautiful compared to this cheap Supercuts chop shop Dosha look, like an empty garage. Dosha is all about maximizing profit and minimizing your experience it is nothing like a real Aveda salon, they are just capitalizing on the Aveda name and that is very unfair to Aveda because it is a very high end quality trademark. Ughhh where do I begin!? First off, if you are signed up in the Aveda Pure Privilege Points- Do Not bother going to Dosha!!! The Manager, aggressively stated, "WE ARE Dosha, NOT Aveda, we use and sell Aveda Products, but we don't participate in any Aveda programs". The Manager's behavioral actions severely echoes immaturity; with rude remarks and judgemental stares. Secondly, after paying a substantial amount of money (and no points), due to the inadequacy of the hairstylist, I ended up making a trip to the local Sally's to purchase a bleaching kit and color dye and applying it myself to achieve the look I wanted. If you want to pay for an expensive haircut, then this place is for you; otherwise, save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else!!! read more

My stylist was great but I couldn't help noticing her dusty work station as well as the incredibly thick layer of dust on all the shampoo chair legs. Lily Helmer is an AMAZING stylist. She has been my gal for almost 8 years, and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair. I recently had her color my hair (balayage) and have had so many compliments since. I went in without a picture or any idea of what I wanted. I told her to work her magic and to just make it look pretty. No surprise that she did just that. I would highly recommend Lily to anyone looking for a change. And an added bonus, she is hilarious and keeps me entertained and laughing during our appointments together. I got my hair done here today by Stephanie. She. Was. Awesome! They had my appointment set up for cut and highlights but I had requested all over two toned color and cut. She was able to make time for this even though I'm sure she did not anticipate that much time being taken. Not only was she super friendly and accommodating to my requests, she knocked the cut and color out of the park! I had super roots and she made me so blonde and refreshing in one sitting. I came in for a bang trim. I had long straight across bangs for awhile, and had grown them out to the appropriate length to create side bangs again. I just needed a little help shaping them so that they would fall to the side. Instead, I got crooked, botched, slanted "straight across" bangs that are much too short, but only on one side... definitely NOT side bangs. Just in time for holiday photos. I regret ever going in, I should have tried to do it myself. Now I realize I paid for them to mess up my hair. Never again... I have a ton hair and every time I schedule I always ask for extra time when I want to get my hair colored. The last few times that I have made an appointment, they can only do a partial or no color because they don't have enough time and tell me that I have to reschedule. Really hate feeling that I'm an inconvenience because of the amount of hair I have. Lily is amazing. Seriously. I had my first appointment and am so glad I booked her. She patiently helped me figure out what I wanted (because I wasn't doing the best job putting it into words), and she was clear about pricing and efficient. She is easy to talk to and I had so much fun talking with her through my visit. Best part? My hair looks SO PRETTY!!! I love the way she did my highlights. I will say the rest of the staff was charming and sweet while my 15 month old daughter walked around and entertained herself (with my husband in toe). Not something that's encouraged by any means but since the place wasn't very busy, they were all nice enough to entertain her while I had a little bit of mommy time. I should have checked out Yelp before I recommended this salon to my mom who recently moved here. I had gone here before, liked the stylist I was seeing, but she moved away and I did not go back. Sadly, this place has gone way down hill since then. Dropped off my mom, came back when she was done, and while she was walking to the car, it almost looked like she wanted to cry. She paid way too much for a horrible color job and a hair cut that looked like a washed out rock star would have received from one of his buddies who had put a bowl over his head while cutting his hair under the influence of who knows what. Great Clips could have done a better job (correction, they usually DO a much better job). Heck, I could have done a better job. Color has already washed out and all I can say is I learned my lesson. I recently had my hair cut somewhere else who did a really bad job and I came here on a whim. I was sched the same day. Upon entering the receptionists we're very friendly. I had heard good things about Dosha so I decided to give it a try. I made an appointment over a week in advance but when I arrived for my appointment they had said that we would have to reschedule. When I had initially scheduled, I had shown pictures of what I wanted and asked for a consultation. It turns out that she had underestimated the amount of time it would take (3 hours) and the slot she had reserved for me was only for an hour and a half. I had agreed to reschedule and Angie, the stylist with whom I had spoke with, even offered a free conditioning treatment as a reimbursement for my time. She stated that the final price would range from $185- $200. I was rescheduled to Monday, 3 days later, and on the day of my appointment I received a call two hours before my appointment that my hairstylist had called in sick and that they would have to reschedule me again. At this point, I was already upset with having to reschedule for a second time, but still gave them the benefit of the doubt and agreed. The manager of Dosha Beaverton, herself, contacted me and said that they could reschedule me for the next day, however the opening was for Dosha in Clackamas which is a 45 minute drive from where I stay. I really wanted to get my hair done with them as I had heard good reviews about this place, and so I agreed. The day of my appointment I had called and confirmed my appointment and when I arrived at the Dosha in Clackamas, my hairstylist, Jacob, told me that to do my hair would cost $380. At that point, I decided to leave. There was a complete and utter lack of communication between the two locations, as well as a horrible job of keeping their word with both services and scheduling. I had once again left Dosha for the third time feeling unsatisfied AGAIN. I can not say anything about the services rendered but dealing with them was enough to ensure that I will never be offering my business to Dosha again and would not recommend it to anybody looking for a salon that takes their time and money seriously. read more

They mostly spend more time blow drying and brushing your hair than actually giving it a good cut. Not worth the expensive "haircut".

HORRIBLE. They screwed up my hair SO badly. I came in with high lighted, hair down my back, beautiful. I wanted lavender hair (it's quite popular and doable from my visual and investigative experience ) First off, they told me they could do what I wanted. My hair came out DARK BROWN AND DARK PURPLE!!! They did NOT give me any compensation... Told me they could fix it and I went In for a second appointment, and they made it worse. This company gave me NO compensation or anything for this!!! I have hair that is dark as shit and not even SLIGHTLY the color I asked for and showed them!!! This place SUCKS. Horrible customer care.
