I had the best experience with Becky Self. She is a manager and expert stylist. I had her cut 23" off my hair in two braids to donate, and cut even more to shorten to a feathered A-line with longer points in the front. I trusted her with cutting my hair to a perfect style of what I wanted and what she thought would look good on me. She exceeded my expectations. I also received a free glass of delicious wine to calm the nerves as I hadn't had my hair cut since 2009 (it's 2026). I won't need to revisit for 3 months, at Becky's advice. She is honest and definitely loves her career and helping people to look their best and boosting their confidence. My mom also uses Becky for her hairstylist. I came in here about a month ago and I still can't stop crying about how my hair turned out. I had very long hair down to my but and asked for a trim, even specified the length and the stylist cut over 5 inches off. I was also not happy with the color and was scheduled two weeks out to fix something I didn't like. I couldn't wait that long and ended up seeing someone else that could at least do a color correction within days apart and she was so sweet and kind. Unfortunately due to the experience I had with the other hair stylist, I will not be returning....I had grown out my hair for two years and had not seen a stylist because my hair is long and have a hard time trusting stylist to work with my hair. Now, it's going to take so long to grow my hair back to the length where it was at and im so heartbroken that I'm considering getting extensions because I can't get over it. Im also doing my hair all over again as soon as I can save some money.... and overall there goes ways over $500 for something I am so unhappy with. I went across the salon to another business for food, and to my surprise the person working shared with me she had the exact same experience with her hair and it was cut so short she also cried over it and showed me photos, and her hair was way longer. Im not one to post ratings for services but this has been by far one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The stylist took no accountability and refused to send me the before and after photos from the back claiming that she couldn't send them to me because they were blurry. Not only is she super friendly and easy to talk to, but she also clearly has real expertise when it comes to cutting and styling curls. I am new to the Portland area and have wavy hair so I was cautious about choosing a place for a haircut. I read Google and Yelp reviews before choosing Identity. I knew I made the right choice when booking the appointment because I was asked about my hair and what I was looking for. My appointment was set for the next day with Aimee and I was so happy. Amie did a great job listening to me and my cut is fabulous. I had a great time meeting her and I look forward to future cuts and conversations. Since this is a new location my navigation system couldn't find the street. Orbit is a street within the new West End development on the corner of TVH and Murray. The only access is off Murray so I did plenty of circling and uturns. But everyone was helpful and kind as I arrived. read more

I received no notification of cancellation policy or charge of a late cancel fee, but was unable to schedule a haircut "until I pay Elizabeth for a late cancellation". Reception can't tell me how much the charge is, or take payment for it, since "Elizabeth uses her own payment app". And Elizabeth isn't in today. Really poor business practice. read more

I don't think the lady who did my hair is still there but this place was miserable. I bought a Groupon for a hair dye. I really just wanted my roots touched up but didn't know what color I should be using as black was too dark and I wanted a more natural color. She put in some brassy purplish red brown? It was so gross. I left that place in tears because I was so upset about my hair. When I got done she tried to charge my like $60 extra dollars for the dye even though I showed her how it was included in the Groupon and finally she dropped the cost. I got a text from her a year later saying she was moving to a new salon and giving discounts. No discount was worth this heart ache so I deleted the text and have not been back! read more

Well, I have been a client here for a while, finding them originally on Groupon in 2016, but while I was growing my hair out from Pixie cut, I didn't need to be seen, so I haven't been in to the salon for about a year and a half. I found a new groupon, so after reviewing, I purchased the partial highlights and cut option for $75. I reviewed the "Fine Print" and it all seemed fine to me. This is the fine print (word for word) on the groupon: "Limit 1 per person, may buy 1 more as a gift(s). Valid only for option purchased. Not valid for clients active within the past 9 months. All goods or services must be used by the same person. Limit 1 per visit. Merchant's standard cancellation policy applies (any fees not to exceed voucher price)." Well I haven't been in for a year plus, so okay. And I am only using one groupon. Okay. Cool. Purchase. Done! Called and left a message, and the next day (today) I get a call from Amanda at the Shaw St Location saying " You already used a groupon before, and we won't have a single stylist that would accept it." So I say "Uh, thats not what the terms said on the groupon, just that if you've been a client in the last 9 months, you can't use it" and I get "Well its under that. Just under it." It is?? Where???? Where does it say that "If you've ever used Groupon here before, you can't ever again?" Nope, no where. It just says "ONE PER VISIT" Then she says "Besides, like none of the stylists here will honor the Groupon." Avoid this place. It suckes because Alicia, the stylist I had before, was great and really does an amazing job. Now I have to wait for Groupon to refund me back my $75 bucks, so I can go find some place else that has actual customer service, and honors their Groupon sales. ******PS - Liz or whoever runs the company, don't advertise and sell on Groupon if NONE of your stylists accept it. ****** read more

I'm the type that is always paranoid about switching hairdressers because I've had bad experiences, so I was anxious going in for the first time but decided to pull through because I saw so many great Yelp reviews (and also got a great Groupon deal). I had the privilege of having Aimee do my hair, and was really happy with the way she thinned my hair out and fixed my layers as well as added partial highlights. She took her time and educated me on things I didn't notice about my hair and products I could use to calm down the frizziness and she made me feel comfortable with her sweet demeanor. So I had to look for a new stylist because after weeks of not being able to get an appointment with my former girl, I was over it and needed to find someone else. My roots were tragic. Actually my hair in general was... I relapsed into box color : ( I had hair several shades darker than my roots in a dark burgundy brown color. I wanted to go red-not quite fire engine red, but definitely red. I also know what that entails- a bleach bath and all over color. This isn't my first rodeo. Sarah was awesome from the start. Super personable and despite me trying to convince her that I knew my hair could take it, she insisted doing a test strand to make sure my hair wouldn't fall out. I appreciate this. She spent several hours doing a full cut and color on me, and even put up with me having her trim my bangs like 3 times because I am finicky. I also suck at being a girl, so she gave me a tutorial on how to style my side swept bangs to get them to lay just right. I couldn't have left happier. She takes pride and time in her work. She listens to what you want and gave me extra time in case I went home and decided I wasn't happy with it. Anyways, so I found a Groupon which made me suuuper skeptical but ya know. Your girl was on a budget! I felt like with all the good reviews on Yelp the risk of a bad haircut was rather small. The location of the Salon was kind of weird and I found it hard to find but that's really the only "complaint" I have. The vibe of Identity Hair & Spa was great. All hairdressers were chatty and welcoming. I'm not sure what the usual prices are but I bought a Groupon for $25 for a haircut and conditioning. My hairdresser Amie was extremely nice right of the bat. She was super knowledgable and it was clear to me that she strived to provide the best possible experience for her clients. She didn't just immediately dive into a haircut but inspected my scalp (it's hella dry) and gave me tips and suggestions. I'm really picky when it comes to how my hair looks but Amie did great. They should have a system where if you have already purchased a Groupon before (people forget what they have bought 9 months back!!!!), you shouldn't be able to buy it again (a lot of other businesses do that). Went there with a Groupon only to get massively disappointed and embarrassed. If getting a Groupon is so looked down upon (even though you are still paying $65) then why even have a Groupon. These girls are either paid v. less or not given a cut if Groupon is used, but they def. dont look pleased when you say you have a Groupon. I went here and got a men's hair cut by Renea, I uselay get my hair cut at great clips and its always messed up. I came here and Renea took care of me and washed my hair and trimmed my eyebrows and even waxed them. Also she payed attention to detail and trimmed all hair in my ears and on the back of my neck, even had my hair washed. I left this place in style ready to rock my new due. All the yelp reviews I read made sure to mention the area is a little off putting, but to give it a chance because the salon itself is great. Which I agree! Availability for an appointment that worked for me-- was awesome. I hadn't seen anyone before, so I trusted the gal that answered the phone and booked with Amie for an ombré touch up since it's been FOREVER and I had just been letting it grow but gray no more! I showed up today, parking was a bit tight-- there may have been an event going on at the auto place next door and the salon itself was hopping! So many people with GORGEOUS hair! I was super excited about it! Amie was great, and did a beautiful job. She was friendly, personable and knows her products and styles. This salon is great and Kelsey is a life-saver! I'm new to the area and had an appointment booked at a different salon for a cut and color (that it DESPERATELY needed) two days before my birthday, only to have them text me an hour before cancelling that appointment. I found this salon on Yelp, gave them a call, and was able to get an appointment squeezed in for the following day. It was such a relief and they were so nice, both on the phone and when I went in for the appointment. Kelsey dyed my hair and cut it based on a photo I brought in, which was a lot shorter than I'm used to but I decided to finally go for it despite horrible experiences with haircuts in the past.
