They are 4x4 specialists and will tell you like it is regarding any repairs that are needed for your vehicle. My Explorer was in need of the rear end to be rebuilt after 100,000 miles, as it started howling on a recent trip. I was expecting this not to be a cheap repair but with the expertise of SDL, they still made it reasonable and what I was expecting to pay. I also brought up a couple of small leaks on my transfer case and Phil's team included the repair as part of the initial quote! If you're looking for a repair shop to talk to you in unicorns in pixie dust, please get that out of your mind before you walk in the door as you will basically get a point blank description of what is wrong with your vehicle and what is needed for them to complete any service to your vehicle. Be prepared for direct and honest communication! Don't expect to get a trophy for showing up and bringing your car in for service! Thanks again Phil and team, I have a feeling the bearings in my rear end were making noise longer than I thought, as I don't recall my vehicle being as quiet as it is now for quite some time! He told me they were NOT out a week and he'd call me by days end, he didn't. I visited the following day since they're a stone throw away. He said I could bring my car in a week later! I did so this morning 3/28/23 at 8:30 am and I asked what his schedule was like. Mike told me they had 1 car to finish & I'd be next. At 3 pm I walked over since I'd received no call, I was told that they tested it but that they couldn't determine the exact problem and wanted to keep it for more testing. The problem is they were working on OTHER cars when I arrived and this guy had nothing but BS excuses telling me they didn't want to just start replacing parts, and that 1 of them cost $200 like that would be some sort of deterent or reason for not going forward with the repair! I'm not sure if he's infering that I couldn't afford it or if he's just incompetent. Either way I'm very disappointed given that I live right next door & I'm in need of a local mechanic.

The primary owner Joe made me feel like I was overreacting and he was condescending. We had to bring it back 8 times over 11 months before they finally decided to replace the transmission. In addition, poor communication about how long they needed to keep the car each time led me to have to rent a car at my expense for out of town family commitments. It was so frustrating that I started to have my partner talk to them because I had had enough. Mike was better at communicating, but it still didn't make up for the 8 different times that we had to bring it back in.
