I needed a variance for an extension, gave them a call, and when I met with him for the first time he explained just what he needed, and set the expectations of what was going to happen next. Mr. Walker is the most professional contractor that has ever done work in my home. My mother is retired and selling her home, and she stresses anything and everything. I work 7 days a week so it's simply easier to hire contractors to expedite any issue we have. We called Mr. Walker for a free estimate, he was at our home within hours, gave an honest assessment of what issues we were trying to correct and had FANTASTIC pricing. Sat down to discuss a second story addition we are doing on our home unfortunatly we never received a proposal or even a follow up call. Follow up: Double Check is now claiming that they never sat down with us when in fact they did come out to my house in early November for a scheduled appointment with myself my wife and my in-laws. We were told that we would be getting a proposal after he came back from his anniversary vacation. Not only was my time wasted but now the insinuation is that I am a liar which is why I am writing this follow up. From my perspective, the project that I envisioned was relatively involved: install new hardwood floors, install high hats through out the house, build a walk-in closet in the basement, and paint the entire interior of the house. I spoke to various contractors in connection with my project and received several estimates - some estimates where higher and some were lower than the estimate that I received from the Double Check. I decided to work with Double Check not only for a very reasonable and a sensible estimate, but also due to the fact that Joe (the owner) and Matthew (his son) both appeared to me to be genuine and levelheaded. And I was very happy to learn that my suspicions were correct: the workmanship was of high quality, punctuality was unwavering, response time in connection with my inquiries was lightning fast. Moreover, throughout the whole project, both Joe and Matthew were more than willing to work with me and address to my satisfaction any concerns that I had. Case in point: during the construction, wall paneling on my kitchen wall was accidently damaged. Of course, during construction, accidents happen - and I suppose that this is also when one truly realizes what sort of a contractor one has hired. I am happy to report that Double Check is indeed a reliable company to work with - they worked with me on the issue to my satisfaction (which concluded in taking down the old paneling and installing new paneling on the whole wall - paid for my Double Check). In my view, such acknowledgement of ones responsibility/accountability is truly a hallmark characteristic of Double Check. Do not use this company , they are one more in a list of shoddy work and crooks. They play the bait and switch ,older father comes discusses all work to be done, son shows up ,does not know anything ,both play game I don't know what other one said it wasn't me. Uses outside contractors who the hound to do work fast, cheap and don't care about quality. If you question then, you are either ignored or called names. Double check takes no responsibility for quality of work, have seen things done wrong and caught doublecheck telling contractors to ignore it. Needed to call them out on stuff and was called names. The write contracts very vague so they are responsible for nothing, and hide behind up to code statement, even if not best for situation. The son was clueless, obnoxious and rude to wife ,father called wife names when confronted. They are crooks and over price things that come up ,because u are at there mercy and they know it, charging 3-4 times what a job should cost. Never finished work promised, hide behind and ignore ur questions. Refuse to acknowledge sub par work. Take no responsibility for outside contractors they hire ,who damage stuff or make unreasonable messes. Then refuse to return dozens of phone calls to fix problem. Never completed promised work, used scape and garbage from other jobs to piece meal job . DO NOT USE,BEWARE !! Have had brought up problems to su contractors who have said they are cheap and crooks, but cant do anything they are paid by them, when they bring up to Doublecheck correct way to do things ,are told to shut up do it cheap and get out, or they will not get anymore work from them ! I needed siding done on the front of my house, so as one does we called all the "regulars" in the papers and flyers. We had numerous estimates from your typical snake oil salesman types you know the ones who have never worked construction before who promise you the world if you'll "do the deal today", who always show up late and have a million excuses as to why and its never their fault . So we stepped out of the box and called Double Check. I left a message as it was after hours, the next morning i received a call back, had an estimate time and date. Joe was 5 min early to the estimate and brought experience, NO PROPS. No BS look at my siding, look at my indestructible glass yada yada, just honest opinions on what would look good and an estimate that gave us multiple options. He left saying if you decide to go with us i'll come back and you can pick and choose colors styles etc... NO HIDDEN FEES. So after all was said and done I called Kate their extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful assistant and told her we would like to do business with them and in the same week Joe came back, left us full sizes samples to put on the house so we could make a real decision instead of looking at a picture. We chose a style and color, within 3 days Kate called to schedule a installation date and time. The material showed up when they said it would, the next morning their very professional crew showed up along with Matt (who is the owners son), he then walked us through how everything would progress and said in 3 days they would be finished. They were done in 2!! So to recap... they were On time, Professional from start to finish and they actually finished ahead of schedule. I would recommend them to any and all for any work you need. 07/10/2017 Well.......not well....I contacted this place due to the good reviews..(On Angie's List)........The man I met "Joe"--I guess the owner--- was nice who came. But it took them a long time to actually come for an estimate, as I reached out to them the first day or two of June. The company is not that far from me. Joe came June 14, told me what can be done and told me an estimate would be sent to me the next few days. (I gave him my e-mail address as well). I waited a week--Nothing. I called 5 times and followed up---he was on the phone---he was on vacation-- he is not in the office---he will call back in 10 minutes---he will call tomorrow....he will send you an e-mail.....Well today is July 10...still NOTHING....obviously I am not using this company as how can you trust their "word" if they can't complete a simple task with an estimate....????...Even if the estimate sucked...it still would have finished off their part. The problem I have had with this company is with "excuses"..I have spoken to two different ladies and another male employee (I am not putting their names in here as it is not their fault). Yes we are ALL busy in life....but a simple return phone call or a simple e-mail--would have sufficed....especially in this day and age.... So my advice?...stay away---as there obligation to fulfill simple tasks MIGHT be expanded on bigger ones...and who needs that??? Description of work: I had a hole problem in my Laundry Room area (This room was in the front of the house and was part of the garage) I had a rat problem where they had gotten in burrowing alongside the house and getting in through the fascia board...then eating there way through sheet rock. So I wanted a company to come out, repair the foundation holes and build a wall with either cinder block or cement board as it was an approximate 7 foot by 7 foot stretch they were getting in. I had recently hired an exterminator and was looking to "Finish" the problem through repair. I guess the other review on here was dead on?????????? read more
