I stopped here on the Labor Day holiday because it was like the only breakfast open and I wanted grab breakfast on my way out of town in a local place because it's what I do. I was seated and menued/watered right away and the menu is one page breakfast and one page lunch/dinner. I would do the 1/2 biscuits and gravy with two eggs and sausage, kinda ala cart because I wasn't feeling hash browns. My food came fast and hot but I could see a problem right away because my sunny side up eggs were way undercooked with the clear slime still in the eggs, sunny side up doesn't mean raw. With all the breakfast reviews I have done over Yelp this is a first, see my picture. The sausage patties were juicy and tasted good/different, not like how the grocery store kind of all taste same. The biscuits and gravy were average at best and ok and they don't skimp on the gravy which was nice. The servers were great until I was finished because I didn't get a check even after my server came to the table next to 2 time with my empty plates sitting there. I had to go to the register and ask for my check because I got tired if sitting there. I have another future visit for this town at some point but I won't go back here. read more

Hey Y'all found another amazing place to eat, The Double D Diner at the corner of 53rd Street and Pine Street. Was a great surprise that I had passed on time and time again for many years. Man, after my visit today I am kicking myself for missing out on this place for so long. Let begin with the atmosphere. This place is your modern take on your hole in the wall restaurant is a clean new modern designed restaurant. The waitress was warm and inviting. She also greeted us good manners entering the door and through out our visit. Which was refreshing and pleasant to see from a server. Our server was prompt, friendly, and fast. The food: We are talking about some really delicious well cooked food. First my pet peeve and litmus test for any good restaurant and that is for them to cook over medium eggs. Me and my other party member both had them and both were cooked over medium. Now to be fair one order was just in range and the order was starting to go over to fried, but both were exactly within the range of what an order medium eggs are supposed to be. You don't know how many restaurants in that cook eggs to order can't cook eggs over medium. This is a major sign of an excellent restaurant. My party member ordered the French Toast. This comes with 4 slices of French Toast, 2 eggs and chose of breakfast meat (Thick cut Applewood bacon was chosen). I sampled each and everything was delicious. Where do I begin? I guess let's start with the bacon. Another thing this restaurant does right! The bacon even though this bacon is a thick cut bacon the cook is able to cook it crisp. Which is an interesting contrast of crisp and chewy. I know what you're saying how can bacon be both crispy and chew? The reason it can is because of the thickness of the cut of the bacon. The outside is nice and crisp while the inside remains nice and tender. The eggs I have already spoken about. And, lastly the French Toast. Your standard two slices of Texas Toast sliced diagonally dipped in a vanilla French Toast batter and cooked to perfection. The only thing I would make these better if the cook added some cinnamon to the batter and tad more powdered sugar on top when severed. But that's me. My meal was the Meat "Sweats" Pile (Basically a skillet on a plate). The Meat "Sweats" consists of Diced ham, bacon, spicy sausage, with country potatoes and two slices of your choice of toast. Fruit can be added for an additional up charge which I did not do. The eggs are already spoken for. The Pile let's start with the country potatoes. They were amazingly delicious, as they perfectly seasoned, crisp on the outside and soft and tender on the inside, cooked to perfection. The meat were also generously served and cooked well all piled on a plate with shredded cheese melted on top and the eggs on top. I chose rye bread for my toast and to be honest I was more impressed with my Rye Toast. Sounds silly, but this wasn't your typical diner's rye bread. Ho, no this was a health 1/2 inch thick slice of fresh richly marbled Rye Bread. It had a wonderful aroma, wonderful texture and amazing rye flavor. The coffee would be the only down side of the place and it's not even that big an issue. It a 3 out of 5. It better than most places but it's nothing to write home about. But, I am a coffee aficionado and have a high standard for good quality coffee, even diner house coffee. Bonus info: they have Giant Rice Crispy Treats, Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls, Cake Pops, and a Mixed Drinks Menu too. They have an out door seating area. Pick-up service available. Definitely, if you have been ignoring this place don't and stop on in. They serve Breakfast and Lunch 7 days a week. Also if you want afterwards you can treat yourself to a Revolution Coffee at the other end of the small strip mall. read more

Ever since new owners took over, quality has gone downhill. Did a pick up order today and was pretty specific about what was to be on the Turkey burger. Got the order and things were added to it and the cheese was wrong. Called back and they blamed us for the screw up. Said we should be more careful about ordering next time. Sincerely adore this place. Between the classic relaxing atmosphere of homely folks of a small town to the buzz and feel of a downtown upbeat diner, Double D Diner has it all. The warm welcome from the servers to the confidence exuded from the kitchen in the open setting you feel right at home. I enjoyed the carnitas burrito with home style potatoes! Definitely recommend snagging a bloodymary that's bottomless on Sundays! They are a diner that also has blueberries which is a rare find now a days. Good morning!!! Husband and I decided to go out for breakfast. Our friends recommended this place many times. John ordered breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, chorizo, hash browns, pinto beans and cheese on flour tortilla. The owner told me they had breakfast tacos that were not on the menu that were very good. I ordered breakfast tacos that had eggs, chorizo, pinto beans and cheese on flour tortillas. At first glance this place seems nice. It looks recently updated and the staff is very welcoming. I really enjoyed the open kitchen concept too. Although the food was just ok. On my sandwich, the burger bun was burnt on the edges; I had to cut it off because you could literally taste char. After eating, I was also pleasantly surprised the cook himself was not wearing a mask. During COVID-19 wearing masks reduces the likelihood of exposure: the cook is perhaps one of the most important people to wear this as he handles everyone food. The restaurant also refilled water beverages as supposed to providing new cups. I think the COVID mitigation at this business is lacking. The staff and place is nice, but I won't return. read more

Came here for breakfast, the decor is very modern and the place with filled with sunlight. We were kindly greater upon entry and shown to our table. The service was friendly and attentive. The concern that I have is with the food and preparation. The egg white omelet was not cooked entirely, there was uncooked egg white in the middle/ends, and it was very oily. This made it a difficult to really enjoy it. When I looked over the cooks were not wearing masks when preparing the food. One didn't have a mask and the other had the masks under their chin. With everything happening at this time with Covid numbers increasing I would like to see a bit more precautionary measures being invoked. read more

Prices on the menu did not match our bill, said it could include fruit as an option but we were charged extra. Children's meal was higher than the menu, too. They reduced the price of the children's meal but would not take the fruit off. Quality of the steak was not as good as before. Bacon didn't taste good. Overall disappointing! read more

We stopped this morning for breakfast. We eat breakfast out every Thursday morning going many different places to try new places! First and foremost, the waitress was wonderful! She was funny and friendly and a good waitress. On the breakfast menu there were not a ton of options. I had some eggshell crunch in my scrambled egg... I also had a half cooked pancake which was replaced. The food was mediocre.... Cheap syrup..,plastic plates, overcooked sausage. For us, this place was a miss. read more

I was greeted at the door to sit where I wanted with my guest so we did- we then sit there for nearly 10 minutes with no menu no secondary greeting from waitress either... was extremely patient, yet they acted as if we weren't there standing around eating onion rings behind the counter. Okay still give them benefit of the doubt another couple comes in and they are immediately sat down and given menus and got their drink order taken immediately. Won't be back for awhile . I have tried this place 4 times now, because I have friends who rave about it and keep telling me to give them another try. Twice for lunch, once for breakfast and once for dinner. The people are nice, service is decent, but the food is just not good. Ordered the stuffed pepper soup for lunch today and it was terrible. A big bowl of greasy ground beef with some tomatoes and about 4 chunks of green pepper. No seasoning, i don't even think it had any salt or pepper in it. Stuffed pepper soup is a favorite of mine, it should have chunks of peppers and some onion and rice in it. This will be my last time at Double D if they can't try any harder than that to make a decent dish. read more

We went back and tried it for lunch, well it was like.....ok. I did the build a burger and my wife had the breaded tenderloin. Both of the sandwich's were very good. The fail was the fries and somewhat on the onion rings. The onion rings are the rough texture that neither my wife or I care for. Now they aren't as bad as the horrible onion rings at Applebee's, those are worst in our opinion. We still tried a couple of them and if you don't mind the texture, they're pretty good. We like the smooth texture onion rings and like the beer batter onion rings. The fries are of a smaller size than I expected. When thinking fries at a diner, I'm thinking the larger fries that are nice and crisp. These were smaller, some of them a bit soggy, some short pieces....the fries just didn't make it for us.
