Before I started the 2 hour drive back to Chicago suburbs, I knew we had to check out the Machine Shed. The location was very easy to find. It helps that the restaurant also has a giant sign so it would be very hard to miss the building. I entered on the side where, I think, I drove over the curb to get to the parking lot but there was no big issue. It also helps that I got the first parking spot luckily. Outside the building is very nice. My daughter noticed, and the loved, the pig in the front and the tractor. Once we got inside, she was mesmerized with everything the place had to offer. I also enjoyd how they offered a toy tractor to play with while we are ordering and eating. For my late breakfast, I had the Country Breakfast with the country fried steak, sunny side up eggs, shredded hash browns, and toast. I thought we could get the shredded hash brown casserole but must of been a mixup between me and our waitress or the cooks in the back. The country fried steak was delicious. I enjoyed the rest and it is your typical breakfast restaurant...good ole hearty food. My daughter, surprising, ate most of her food and hers + mines toast which was rare. Of course, we had to leave the restaurant with a new brand toy. She thought the one we got the table was hers to keep as well but she quickly understood that it was not and she got another toy to play with. Overall our server was nice and the food was delicious. We met our son, DIL, and granddaughter for supper. Everyone enjoyed their meals (turkey/dressing, chicken fried steak, pork tenderloin, and my favorite; the beef liver and onions.) The bread and sides are generous and tasty. I have enough leftovers for at least one meal. The waitstaff are super friendly and we didn't feel rushed to leave. "Dedicated to the American Farmer." That is The Machine Shed's creed. Today (August 1st 2025) my wife and I stopped in for lunch, and I'm glad we did. It was our first visit so we weren't sure what to expect. I now know you can expect: friendly service, reasonable prices, and good food. When you walk in the front door it is a little confusing. There is a gift shop, and the restaurant is past the gift shop; but the hostess stand is in the gift shop. You also pay your dinning bill at the gift shop counter. The gift shop got very congested, but it was not a big deal and won't impact my rating. We started with a cup of French Onion Soup. It was very good, they top it with some thin french fried onions which was a nice twist. It has been awhile since I've been in Iowa and I was craving a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. The sandwich was good but not up to Iowa standards. I'm accustomed to a breaded pork tenderloin that is pounded nice and thin and is way bigger than the bun. This was not pounded thin. It was a thick cut of meat. But, I repeat it was good. My fries were delicious. My wife had the Classic Burger and it was excellent. She said her sweet potato fries were good (I did not try them). Service is friendly, and prices are reasonable. One word of caution: If you are on a road-trip and hoping for a quick stop (as we were) be warned it won't be quick. Everything is made from scratch, which is great, but it definitely takes longer. If you are in Davenport and looking for good food at reasonable prices you might want to stop by The Machine Shed. read more

This place has good vibes and good service. I went with a large group and they were able to split the checks. Since I went with a large group, there were lots of opinions - I will try to include them all in my comments. The menu is large and offers something for everyone. The dessert menu online was more broad and detailed than in-person. The cups for drinks are super small, the waitress was quick to refill but could have been a potential issue if the restaurant was busy. The salad bar was a hit, varying pricing based on if you add it to a meal or have it alone. The fried chicken sandwich was a classic, I did ask for chipotle sauce on the side for the fries but instead the waitress just brought me the mustard that was supposed to be on the sandwich on the side. One of us got the main burger (i forget what it is called but I think it was listed first on the menu) and the overall review was that it read as being super yummy on paper, but in real life was underwhelming and lacked flavor. It looked like a very dry experience that some sauce could fix, but it didn't come with any and when we asked for sauce options during ordering the waitress was confused and offered the mustard, but maybe some bbq sauce or chipotle aioli would have helped. The Ruben sandwich was good - much better than the burger. The brisket sandwich was good and would order again. The sweet tea was also very good. Wanted to try the food. We usually go to the Urbandale restaurant. Ordered soup and our meal. They brought the fixens. Good as always. Then we waited and waited as we watched the table that ordered after us get their soup and meals. Still waiting..... Checked and lo and behold, the waitress had forgotten our order. I guess I will never know if their food is good. Left and ate at Cracker Barrel. Which turned out to be just down from our hotel. I hope they treat the locals better. read more

Decided to give machine shed a try after a couple years sabbatical. Always love the atmosphere and country decor. The waitress was pleasant enough , but a little forgetful with items that were asked for. As far as the food goes , I think we needed to take a longer sabbatical. The Chicken sandwich and fried chicken were both hammered, could have dunked them in the water jug and they would still need more moisture. The French fries and mashed potatoes were good, as far as potatoes go. Sadly I think this place has lost its dedication to the quality of food it used to offer. If you are looking for a place to bring the family with good portion size at a reasonable price then you should come and check them out, just don't expect great food.. read more

Location is close to interstate I-80 on NW side of Davenport. It's a long-time staple for good homestyle food as long as I can remember. They do not take reservations or call-ahead seating, so be prepared to wait. Lots of dedicated parking available. Family style meals are a general theme here, so make sure you connect with your table mates to discuss options. You'll receive a bread basket to start, then you get 2-sides to share with your meal. There is also a salad bar available. Pork is a staple in IA, so you will find it heavily represented on the menu. I chose the Breaded Tenderloin sandwich for my lunch option, and it was fantastic. We ordered these: Lunch: single cut pork chop and haybaler top sirloin and kid's menu mac and cheese with fruits bowl with desserts chocolate ganache cake. The truly joy is the homemade Shed style fixin, the baked apples and coleslaw. Have I mentioned the super soft bread and delicious smooth butter that comes with main entree? The perfect country style theme is awesome and brings out homey ambiance. The servers unique uniforms also very attractive and their service is excellent, very friendly and super helpful. This time we ordered: Dinner: 1. country fried steak, this is the best country fried steak topped with gravy sauce and mashed potatoes also with gravy sauce, with crunchy on the outside and the inside melt in your mouth. and 2. hickory smoked pork ribs - half slab. The pork ribs has crunchy cracked skin, but the meat is too dry, and need to add more bbq sauce to add up some taste, but the garlic potato with beef gravy is truly delicious. I have celiac so was a bit concerned about options. There were plenty of choices between meat, shrimp and salads. I had the chicken with wild rice and broccoli. All were cooked well, but a little bland. There were several "fixins" before my meal that were gluten free including cold-slaw, cottage cheese and, baked apples. The apples were wonderful! This place is super adorable. Very Cracker Barrel-ish. You walk into a country store prior to being seated. We were a group of 6 seated at a large round table in the center of the room. The menu is large and full of delicious sounding comfort foods. We all watched food delivering to other tables with our mouths ajar. Bread was delivered and appetizers ordered. I believe one of the options was an apple bread? Oh my gosh it was SO GOOD. All the bread options were tasty. The appies were delicious and this must be a midwest thing, but cottage cheese was served in a massive bowl for the table along with something else I can't recall. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and it hit the spot. We had such a fun dining experience at this very cozy and affordable restaurant. The food is pretty good -- I chose Turkey a few days after thanksgiving, which may have been a mistake on my behalf. Had lunch there on a Saturday. My wife had the salad bar. My wife liked the salad bar, lettuce was fresh. Didn't care for the potato salad. It came with a cup of soup. She chose the potato soup. It was more of a very thick pudding than a soup and she didn't like it at all. I had the meatloaf on our servers recommendation and regretted the choice. The vegetable side was green beans and they were so sweet I didn't eat them. The onion straws on top of the meat loaf we good, but I thought detracted from the dish, the flavor didn't go. Went to The Iowa Machine Shed for lunch. I had a Beef Brisket Salad and French Onion Soup. That was the best meal I have had in a couple of years. I had never heard of a Beef Brisket Salad so I thought it sounded good and decided to try it. That salad was Awesome! I definitely will have that when I go there again. My companion had great food too. Bought a large cookie to take home. There are all types of items there to purchase (sort of like an old country store). After searching for places to eat around the Davenport, Iowa area, we came across the Machine Shed. If you can imagine Homestyle cooking meets farmer sized portions, then you found the right place. For lupper, we had meatloaf and mashed potatoes served on toast with sliced onions and candied carrots. This is an eclectic eatery that prides itself on down home, cooking, large portions, and friendly staff. We were driving across the state and a family member recommended that we make a pit stop here. Our server Cara was fabulous, she was running the whole room, taking orders, refilling coffee and make conversation with all customers. A local version of Cracker Barrel in many ways. Menu and decor pay homage to the American farmer. Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. Got seated right away. Had a nine-month old with us, and server was delightful with him. She was accommodating of the challenges of having a squirmy little guy there. (Thankfully, he was not noisy.) Outside the restaurant are a number of farm equipment items that especially might entertain kids. Menu contains lots of Midwestern comfort foods. If you like that sort of thing, and I like some of them, you will like this place. Generous portions. Not a good place for calorie counting. Most meals cost $10 or more, however if you get the half a sandwich and soup or salad, it's a little less. I got that, and it was plenty for me. read more
