I was in the Army for 8 years and I've been in two car accidents (2003 &2007) which has been rough on my body. I've had constant back pain for what feels like forever. After years of chiropractic care and attempts to find relief via yoga and reformer Pilates, I was at my whit's end. While complaining about my back pain one day, my friend told me to go talk to Jim (his trainer of almost 3 years) to see if he could help me. Well this is what happened....... First Meeting - Jim educated me like I was sitting in one of my old MBA courses. I'm not used to trainers sharing their knowledge so freely. I am all about gaining knowledge and Jim gives you the kind of information that you can use for a lifetime on your own so of course I was all in to try him out for a month. After the first month - I have absolutely positively no more back pain. I mean NONE. I now get up from lying down or siting after long periods without making weird noises from pain. I also noticed that my posture for dance has greatly improved. I dance Kizomba, Bachata, Salsa and a little Tango. I am now sooo much smoother and lighter on the dance floor and I no longer have pain after long nights of dancing. It is now the end of month two - I am now able to feel my muscles develop and I can see my old Army Boot Camp body returning. I am waaay overweight so this is a really big deal for me. I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. Jim is a no-nonsense, easy going, no pressure trainer. I can honestly say that I enjoy every session with him and I now LOVE strength training. I feel like a new woman. If you are looking for a trainer to help you get started or just to progress in your life long journey of being healthy and strong, you should give him a try. My trainer Naz has proven to be very knowledgeable, devoted and professional, and I have the results to prove it. The rest of the staff has also been very courteous and professional, and the in-house chiropractor Dr. Guzman, has been able to help me resolve long standing issues. I attended their weightlifting workshop this morning and was really impressed with their coaches…read more Superior knowledge, patient, and excellent at explaining the movements and mechanics/reasoning behind the lifts. Of the class I was definitely the least experienced and worst at picking up the complex movements, but I never felt uncomfortable or out of sorts thanks to the coaches. I can't stress this enough... these coaches are amazing. You can go anywhere and lift weights. You can buy a bench and some weights and do your own thing at home. You can go to another type of gym where the "coach" gives you 10 mins of "instruction" and then lets you to do 25 reps of a complex movement you have no business doing... with WAY too much weight. What you're not going to get from a book or YouTube or anywhere else is the knowledge these guys impart on you. Class act all the way around. Final thought (and another thing that I was really impressed with), this was a true seminar, with direct one-on-one coaching. I was worried that I was signing up for a "5 hour Dallas Strength and Conditioning commercial". That couldn't be further from the truth. This is a place where you go to learn just how strong you can actually be, both mentally and physically. This is a place where you go to make friends who also want to better themselves through the hardship that is known as strength training. This is a place that offers more than just barbells, you have prowlers and sandbags and all other kinds of toys to play with. I feel that once I get my body recovered from a couple joint sprains and muscle tears, I can see myself becoming a member here. The Layout This place is simply an open room with racks and weights and platforms. There was a PA blasting Nirvana and fans blowing the air around. This place was clean and fresh, the owner takes good care of the facilities. It's a simple layout, because with this place it's what you do in the space, not what the space does to you. The Experience They have at least two different teams here: a powerlifting team and a weightlifting team. I could have sworn they also had a strongman program (I believe they have atlas stones) but upon looking at their website that doesn't seem to exist. They also have kettlebells, fitness, and a strength and conditioning programs. I attended the powerlifting program, as my body isn't ready yet for work on explosive strength. The day me and my friend attended happened to be bench day. The owener/coach Chris is a beefy, likeable dude. He was able to help out me and a friend of mine with our bench press technique. ...Barbell lifts really are technique intense, and it's amazing how much better you feel when you lift with correct form. I can only imagine how much Chris could help me with my deadlift. The template seemed to kind of follow Wendler's 5/3/1 program a bit, and I mean that in a good way. I could sense a purpose with everything, and that this day was part of a master plan, not some random thrown together workout designed to make you puke. I wish all gyms were like this.

Though everyone in the class was doing the same workout, Emily and Evan made real-time adjustments to my workout, and kept me at a level my body could handle. They understood my injury and made adjustments so I could push myself and get stronger without hurting myself. For other clients coming in with injuries, these classes are great ways to get in your physical therapy. Emily and Evan have been working with athletes for years and really understand how to help the body recover and get stronger. As I got my strength back, I was able to push myself more each class. I started to realize the true sense of community at this gym. Everyone knows everyone, and each new face welcomed me with open arms. When you get in a schedule, you start seeing the same faces week in and week out. These are the kind of people who are cheering you along every lift, every run. It's such an encouraging environment, where the whole class wants to see you work your butt off, push yourself just a little bit more, and even PR. After 4 months at alpha I really began to see and feel the difference. I was stronger than I had ever been, even while training at school with my collegiate team. My core was defined, my arms and legs showed growth with the numbers to match. Emily and Evan also included nutrition help, and worked with me to create a diet that would bring me closer to my fitness goals. My friends started to notice the fat I was losing/muscle definition I was gaining. These coaches are truly so knowledgeable, and their classes follow a 6 to 8 week long program that helps their clients improve on certain focuses. Whether it be a program focusing on mobility, focusing on injury prevention, they always have the knowledge and experience to back up what they do. I'm learning more and more about my body with each class. And everyone I see in class, whether it's the kids like me fresh out of college, the 25-30 year olds, or even the 45-55 parents, everyone at this gym acts like a team, and everyone is pushing themselves and each other to give it as much as they can each workout. The workouts are definitely hard, but Emily and Evan start you at your OWN level. And with time, you'll see just how much you can grow here. Seriously, this gym has been life changing for me. I trust Emily and Evan with my health, and have loved having them cheer me on this past year. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I recommend this this only if you want to become a body builder, otherwise this is not for you. The purpose of this class is to see how much weight you can lift in a certain time frame. The reason I'm giving two stars is because and after I told the owner/instructor my back was hurting from the exercises he just told me not to add weight and keep going with what I was doing. The next morning after this night class I ended up collapsing on the floor and had to crawl to my phone to get a ride to the ER. I learned I herniated a disk in my back and have since spent thousands of dollars on doctor visits. I of course cancelled the rest of my sessions at the Alpha Project and I never got one "sorry" or reimbursement for my unused classes. If you're looking for a gym where you can bulk up and compete against others in the class, go for it. But make sure you listen to your body, not what the instructor tells you to do.

Signing up for classes was a breeze, and the waiver process was so simple it felt like I didn't even do anything. You might think that part isn't a big deal, but if you know, you know -- a messy sign-up can ruin the whole vibe. Here, it was smooth and stress-free. The studio is spotless, and the bathrooms? Immaculate. One of the coolest parts was the owner, Jackie. She hung around after class and actually took the time to talk with us, sharing the backstory of how the gym started, what the mission is, and how they built the community. You don't get that personal touch everywhere, and it made the whole experience feel that much more welcoming. Now for the workout. This one was no joke. They hit us with nine minutes of abs at the end, and I'm not gonna lie... the second they announced it, I considered walking out the door. This is a true HIIT functional fitness workout and it hits every part of you in the best way. What I love is that it works for everyone -- whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned pro, you go at your own pace and still get a killer session. Bells and Barbells not only fueled me with the knowledge I needed to keep a healthy lifestyle but I am down 11 inches! Kat really held me to that self accountability and I finally feel like I made a breakthrough with myself. The trainers are amazing and I love the diversity of the employees. I am apart of the LGBTQIA community and it is important to me to have the inclusivity. I have not just found a plan that works for me, but I also feel like I found great friends in the process.
