Visited this gym for the second time with my partner to use their robo massage service which is located in their spa. The gym it self is very old and out dated however it is kept very clean. It consists of one gym room with equipments with some workout rooms such as yoga class room, an indoor pool, and separate men and women dressing rooms. I would say if it wasn't for the robo massage service I probably wouldn't choose this gym location as my first option for a place to work out as there are far bigger and better gyms with more quality workout equipments. read more

Don't bother. This is an overpriced, old, dark gym. The facilities look very weathered, and they have very little equipment which also needs to be replaced. And please be careful, the monthly rate that you are quoted, is not the actual rate. They tag an extra $20-25 dollars a month for taxes on top of it. This is a review not of the club but of their business practices. We'd give them -1 stars instead of the minimum 1 star if we could. They sold my daughter a membership by specifically promising her she could cancel when she went home from college in roughly 4 months - that it would be no issue at all. This statement was made multiple times and was what ultimately sold her on getting a membership for the 2nd semester of the year. Then when she goes to cancel 30 days before leaving (in mid-April), they say sorry you can't and keep billing. Specifically, they say you can only cancel if you are more than 25 miles from the nearest equinox when you move, or over a year has gone by. And almost everywhere is within 25 miles (which is very long if you don't have a car), and appears to be calculated as the crow flies, not the actual driving distance. This was never specified and in fact the opposite was said - it's super easy to cancel when the school year is out. On top of that, if you are 25 miles away, once you move home, they demand proof of the new residence, which requires paying them the monthly fee until you can prove that. This is impossible for a college student, since they don't have utility bills, etc... So you have to wait until the driver's license change of address comes through or you send an Amazon package to the new address for proof that they've moved. At a minimum, this adds an extra month of payments when you're home from school. And now apparently a photo of the package to the new address that's 25 miles away isn't sufficient, and they want the actual package envelope mailed to them. This is a company charging $300/month, so this is a very substantial sum, costing about $2000 more until the year is out. On top of that, they violate good business practices by not actually checking that the name on the card used for the subscription matches the name of the person subscribing, or requiring a specific authorization for that card. Had they required my authorization, I would have read the contract, and never let her join. This behavior has now required us to now close the credit card account that we've had for 20 years to completely to stop the charges that shouldn't be going to us in the first place. You can see this isn't atypical behavior by noting that this particular place has over 100+ complaints at the Better Business Bureau. Stay far, far away from any company that has subscription practices like this. Yes, I'm sure it's in the contract somewhere, but having your sales people blatantly misrepresent what's necessary to cancel is a slimy business practice that takes advantage of young college students who haven't encountered these practices before. Who knows what else is buried in their contracts? Is there an ability to raise the price to an arbitrary amount? Are there other prohibitions on cancellation? This could be the Taj Mahal of gyms and it's not worth going through this nonsense (and it's not based on other reviews). Avoid at all costs. read more

BUT beware that this location also consists of many members with poor hygiene! Part of this might be overpopulation and not enough cleaning staff, but some really gross things I've encountered in the women's bathroom: - toe nail clippings in the shower - used tampon in the shower - used tampon on the bathroom floor - clumps of hair in the shower - mudslides in the toilets - ETC. I've been a member here for a little over a year and in that time I've watched this place to from bad to worse. Whether it be their inability to keep the air conditioning working without causing an indoor water feature in the middle of the upper body section, or an inattentive and unapologetically non-communicative management team, there's no shortage of things I can share about how bad this Equinox is compared to others around the country. I've worked out tonight watching every single person look up at the ceiling where water continues to leak, multiple carts lined up to catch it, and shake their head in disappointment. Please keep in mind membership here is $200+ a month, so there should be some expectation of an elevated experience compared to the LA Fitness down the street. The only reason I'm giving two stars is for the staff who care and treat you with respect. It's not their fault they are stuck in this situation, but I would strongly advise looking elsewhere in Dallas (Equinox at Preston Hollow is nice and quieter) or look at LifeTime. read more

I've recently returned back to Equinox (former EQX Culver City and EQX Miracle Mile member) and I have to say, I enjoyed the EQX Highland Park DTX location a lot! I do think this place could use some upgrades and updates as it has a bit of a dated feel. Other than updates, it's great! Awesome classes, great equipment, awesome pool, and overall has just about everything. Also, it's very nice to have a stand alone gym with its own parking. That is a HUGE plus! You don't have to validate your ticket OR worry if there's any parking spots. read more

So it's been a month since I have been a member of equinox and all I can say is it been the best month of my fitness journey. The best think about this gym is the classes and amazing instructors. Each class have been challenging and fun. Upon your first month, you are set up with a complementary personal training session. My trainer was VaShon . He was attentive and you could tell he really knew his stuff. The facility is beautiful and alway clean. The staff is helpful and courteous. It's definitely worth the 200 a month fee. Oh yeah you definitely have to take Yoga with Thomas and Shawn . Their classes are awesome. Kim is great with Barre and I had a blast with Morgan on cycling . 10/10 recommend read more

Just super underwhelming. I have tried to find a good time to go where I wasn't crowded. I have yet to find a good time to go. As well as getting constantly badgered by the trainers to use my free training session. Also find it odd there is no sauna there as well. The treadmills are nice but that's about it. read more

Well... where to start The facilities are beautiful and everyone at the front desk is nice but this place is not worth the price overall IMO, specially compared to other Equinoxes Here are a few issues I've had with them 1. They seem to have days where the gym is closed for maintenance issues (a few times) frozen pipes, etc. but they don't seem to refund their members for not being able to use the facilities on those days. 2. The whole reason I joined was their classes and the times are just not feasible for someone with a full time job. 3. It makes no sense for a gym to close that early on a weekend. 4. My membership ended after a year... I have called countless times since late October to cancel my account and none of the "operation managers" will contact me back. I keep hearing oh we left a note on your account and they'll call you back and nothing. Well my membership just automatically reactivated? So not only did I not get the cancellation it deactivated without me knowing?????? 5. I think for a place charging this much the least they could do is call their clients back. 6. Multiple treadmills I've been on that don't have a working button.... 7. Make your decision but again I don't think this place is worth it. read more

In love with this location! I travel back and forth between LA and Dallas and I must say the Dallas locations are top-notch and very well kept and tidy. They are constantly cleaning the machines and common areas and making sure everything is sanitized. All of their staff, trainers, and coaches are wonderful. From their Kiehl's products in the changing rooms and showers to their eucalyptus towels, everything is pretty amazing and worth every penny. I just rejoined Equinox again this past month and already I'm having issues. They've charged my card multiple times for one month. When I try to talk to concierge online I get disconnected after chatting with the rep. They don't seem to really care about the fact their system is compromised. Again, this is month one and I had to call the Preston Hollow location just to get a human to talk to me. For $200 a month I'd expect slightly better customer service, but that's just me. read more

I am a few weeks in and am loving Equinox. I joined both Highland Park and Preston Hollow. I live right next door to HP location so the location is the main reason for joining. My favorite thing are the classes. I used to be a classpass member and wanted to commit somewhere yet the spin studio are so expensive. So this was a happy medium, they offer unlimited spin, barre, pilates, strength training classes throughout the week. It works out perfect, I can either go to PH location on my lunch break or HP before/after work. They offer about 120 classes per week, you use a phone app to book most classes 26 hours in advance. The facilities are nice, clean. I will say that the HP location seems a lot nicer than the PH location. Maybe it's just the setup. Overall very impressed and love that I can take as many classes as I want per week. read more

I find out 3 months later I have been being charged full price the entire time, even tho I'm out of state. I call Arthur Thompson and he verifies everything and tells me I'll get a full refund. LIES LIES LIES. I got ahold of him two weeks later and he promised it was a mistake it wasn't done then proceeded to purposely dodge my calls for months and nobody ever called me back. Spinning is epic at this facility! The room creates the most all inclusive atmosphere. I went to a class on Sunday morning (which is definitely a tough time to bring max energy) but Lacey burns the instructor made the experience one of the best spin classes I have ever taken! She was so engaging. Her music was inspiring. Queing was articulate, clear, and motivational. She used the console on the bike perfectly so that I got the most out of my ride! She Was a coach, a cheerleader and also felt like our biggest fan! Thank you equinox! read more

I'm so glad that my membership is ending and I'm not renewing it. I started at a different location (preston hollow) and I LOVED that place and never thought that one day I would cancel my Equinox membership. After moving to the HP location, I've been so disappointed by the facilities and the crowdedness. As I talked to a trainer, the number of members at HP is double of that of PH. I was also warned that the members could be more arrogant at this location. Sadly, this is definitely true....people are much more courteous at PH, from members to staff. Sure, the front desk always greets you with a smile. But that's about it. My friend even had a terrible time transferring her membership over, as the staff kept forgetting to process her request after she signed her paper works. And they told her she was not a member, and therefore couldn't access to this club... Equipments seem to be outdated and need some maintenance. And the number of members at this location is RIDICULOUS. I've tried different times to beat the crowd: early in the morning, right after work (ok usually this time is busy everywhere so I get it), late-ish night, and 10 before closing. The only time that I didn't have to wait for a long time for a bench was 10pm. Oh, if you try to come in during the popular hours (5-8 pm), you better PRAY that you can find a parking spot at a reasonable space so you won't get hit by a car when walking across the street from the separate parking garage. Group classes are always jam packed, but the trainers are very good. Compared to PH, HP does offer more classes, which is probably the only thing that I think it's better than PH. If you like yoga and like to have more focus on alignments and some special focuses each class, do not miss Nicole Payseur's class!!! I seriously thought about keeping my membership and just go to her class twice a week, and it alone would totally worth the membership! She'll introduce herself to you and remember you even a few weeks later. You feel like you are having a private class with her even if the room is full! If you have special requests, she'll even set a time before or after class to work with you for that request. I'll for sure miss Nicole and her class... If you are thinking about joining Equinox, I highly recommend the Preston Hollow location. Everyone is super nice over there, the layout is better (imo), never overly crowded, easy to find parking. The place is kept sparkling clean, the staff greets you with a smile, and the personal trainers are the best I've ever worked with. I love working out here. As others have mentioned, the pain points around this location are mostly related to its crowding. Highland Park is full of people who can both afford and appreciate this kind of snobby health club. What's up peasants! I just dropped off my masaratti at the valet and am having an organic vegan juice before I meet up with my personal trainer who's better than yours! If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm working out at Equinox, the most expensive (non-crossfit) gym out there. Layout/Facilities The gym is beautiful. A lot of thought went into the architecture and it shows. You don't feel like you're walking into a gym, but a high-end hotel or spa. They have a group class that is in the middle of the main space but because of the frosting in the glass you don't feel like you're in a fishbowl. They have a very nice, but small, saltwater pool that I was told is very popular with the triathletes. They also have a very zen yoga studio with soft natural lighting, very peaceful. This is separate from the Pilates room where the reformers are set up full time. I typically use bumper plates when I can, and one time I looked around for the 45 plates and realized they have only two plates, and a trainer was using it with a client. Thankfully I had a work around, but it was surprising that they only have one set of bumper plates for each amount of weight. E.g. only two 45# plates, two 35# plates, and so on. although they have three squat racks, you could still end up waiting on other people for a long, long time if you're planning on deadlifting and want to use bumpers. Group Classes A nice thing is that with membership ALL the classes are free. You don't have to pay an extra $5 for a week of Pilates with the reformer. So if you go to classes all the time this gym MIGHT actually be a good value. I tried a yoga class, and was surrounded by women who, judging by their crows pose and standing splits, probably do this all the time. I personally wasn't intimidated but I'm rarely intimidated by any setting. The instructor was very nice, friendly, and knowledgable. I think because the majority of the class was so advanced she gave very minimal instruction. For example she would simply say "Warrior two to Moon's pose without much description of what the pose actually is. I checked and this class is for all levels so again I think if I wasn't the only yoga noob she would've explained more. Also, the mats are cleaned after each use, but not by you. After class you just put them in the used mat pile and let some one else deal with it. Living the life. I also got to try their RX series class. I do a lot of mobility work on my own, and this class works on the parasympathetic system, so I was curious to experience mobility work in a class setting. It was only 30 minutes long, but the instructor was an anatomy geek like me (her eyes lit up when I mentioned "infraspinatus"). Showers When I was given the tour and we arrived at the locker room, the guy pointed out the khiel products and said, "the goal is so that you don't have to bring any of that stuff to the gym". I decided to take him at his word and see what happened. Some things worked well, others.... did not. The shower itself was pretty good. Slotted teak(?) wood floors gives you a spa/beach feel. However, more than once I stepped on a sharp screw head sticking out and that did not tickle. The tiling was excellent and the shower head was top notch; everything was very clean. I had to wait a while for hot water to show up, which was surprising. Once the water got hot, however, it got really hot. The khiels products were, as expected, excellent. I left the stall smelling slightly of grapefruit and feeling clean. However, when it came to shaving and styling my hair I was disappointed. The razors provided were fine, but the shaving cream was not khiels, it was old-school barbasol foam. I'm not a foam man myself but I gave it a try and I definitely cut myself a couple of times. Perhaps it was the bic razor, I don't know. After shaving, I then realized there was no aftershave provided. This was a little alarming as I could feel my skin dry and tighten up. I decided to use some of the free khiels body lotion provided, but it wasn't the same as real aftershave. I then tried the non-khiels hair gel that is provided. I found it.... lacking. It didn't provide any real hold and smelled/felt like rubbing alcohol, which is a filler for lesser quality gels. So all in all if you plan to shower here bring your shaving equipment and hair supplies. "All khiels products" just means lotion, soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Normally I don't care about this kind of thing, but if a part of your marketing scheme is what's inside the shampoo bottles then you better damn well back it up. For the money that they charge here, I would expect a better experience. I mean come on, provide at least some kind of aftershave to go with the cheap razor and shaving creme. read more

I joined here and terminated my membership after just 1 month. There AC system was broken for over 1 week in this dallas summer heat and they did not tell any of their members about it. Instead, they let there members get red in the face until it was a point of health concern. After hitting my breaking point, I finally asked why they don't run the AC. That was when I was told it was broken and should be replaced "tomorrow". Well tomorrow keep happening and the AC was still broken. Additionally, the staff member I discussed this with was snoody and rude. Don't join here unless you have money to waste UPDATE: not only have I cancelled my membership, but now this company is still trying to charge me after upper management was supposed to cancel it. A robot from equinox is calling me once a week now telling me my bills haven't been paid.
