You're not in the mood an/or you just don't have the energy to cook for yourself, so you go in search of an old friend. That friend is named China Gate. This restaurant has all of the Chinese take-out classics that you're used to seeing, but does them very very well. I tend to order the wonton soup and egg roll most often for a light dinner, but I've also really enjoyed their beef/chicken and broccoli. A lot of times, Chinese take out restaurants feel like they're phoning it in. Not China Gate. The food tastes nice and fresh, and it doesn't feel super heavy like you've made a terrible mistake eating it. Instead it tastes pretty darn fresh and made with quality ingredients. It's a great neighborhood Chinese restaurant, and I hope it sticks around for a long time to come.

I can't say for certain if this decline started after the original owners sold it and retired or not. With so many other options in the area for Chinese food, China Gate is no longer at the top.

My partner is always happy with the chicken dishes and pad Thai he orders. Also the leftovers reheat really well when I take them to work.. This is a busy spot and something I appreciate is that it's always hot by the time I get back home. I drive across town 15 minutes bc the food is so good. On occasion it's so busy that I have to wait a few minutes for pick up but I would much rather the food be fresh from the kitchen than sitting in a shelf waiting to be picked up. It did say that it comes with fried rice and an egg roll but other places have said that but you don't with a noodle dishes. When I opened the Styrofoam container I found half of it. Less than half is noodles with less than the normal shrimp. Not even average compared to the others I have eaten. The egg roll was nothing to write home about. I have no clue why all the higher star reviews except they haven't eaten at some of the wonderful places I have. I will not be back.

Something has changed. And not for the better. Ordered carry out this past week for the first time…read morein quite a while. Egg drop soup, won ton soup, chicken subgum and cashew chicken. Pros: Won ton soup still pretty good. And actually got a extra won ton. Cashew chicken was very good and the serving size was huge. Chicken subgum was also very good and lots of it. Cons: They have changed the rice. Used to be more of a sticky type. New stuff was very small grains and had the texture of couscous. Not appetizing at all. I made my own and discarded theirs. Egg drop soup...wow...horrible. Very salty. Not the nice yellow color of their previous version. The broth looked like used dish water. The drops of egg looked like they had been run through a blender. A real disappointment since this has been a very good soup in the past. Cannot comment on service or ambiance since they went to carry out when Covid hit and have not gone back to dine in. I think we will still order from here but I will just forget the soup and make my own rice.
