This is a big place. You can have a private party. The staff was nice. Food is ok. I got a burnt greasy egg roll. I was very disappointed that they would serve that. Good food Tasty and filling portions. Beef Chop suey is my favorite. The beef was tender and the noodles cooked well, the fried rice was moist and prepared just right. (No burnt or overcooked taste.) I have been coming here since the 1970's. Their food has always satisfied. I didn't realize Almond Boneless Chicken was a Michigan dish but China Star's is exceptional. This place was recommended to us by a coworker. It's little restaurant hidden to the side. Upon entering we were greeted by one of the servers. We were seated promptly. No music playing just a peaceful place to eat at. We ordered the orange chicken (dinner combo) which includes soup and an egg roll with rice and the entree. The food was fresh and the service was fast! Portions are huge! They are very attentive and checked up on us multiple times. We will be back to try other things. Takeout is a mess. Packaging of food is total chaos. The wrap the food in paper cartons, which drip. They then put the paper containers in plastic bags which are stapled together. They should instead use plastic containers with lids, like all the other Chinese restaurants. When i get home the paper containers are a complete mess. This is a huge problem. I don't understand how this place could possibly get less than 5 stars.. I came back into town while visiting family, and I recognized the same family working there that I remember from 35 years ago. The food is so incredibly delicious, and they have ruined me from expecting good Chinese food from anywhere else lol Highly recommend the chicken gai kow, that is my always go-to.. but the almond boneless chicken is spectacular as well. the chop suey is great, the sweet and sour chicken and shrimp is great.. literally never had a bad meal here! I have never been here in the 12 years since I moved here, and it had been over 12 years since my Fiancé had visited. We had a craving for Chinese food, and wanted something close. We live about 3 minutes from here. We now regret ordering here and not visiting our local go too. I got the egg drop soup, flavorless and almost cold. We shared the crab Rangoon's, horribly cooked, crispy on one end and hard, chewy and overcooked on the other end, filling and flavor was just off, big time. I also got the pork and mushroom egg foo young, barely any pork, and zero mushrooms. Gravy was beyond bland, literally water. Fiancé got the beef Lo mien, they never said it had mushrooms, she hates them, loaded with them, and they used the super thin noodles you would find in a typical order of Singapore noodles. Also flavorless, zero veggies and off tasting. Lots of better local options and we absolutely would not recommend this place for a meal. We wasted $40 to be completely dissatisfied and highly disappointed! Had to give the 1 star for review purposes. read more

I have been going to China Star since I was a kiddo! They have always been a staple in my life and moving back to the area has been amazing! The individuals who work here are always the nicest people! Just today, I forgot to mention I wanted sweet and sour sauce on the side and I offered to pay for an extra side and they just gave it to me! I'm always so happy with how they treat their customers which is why I will always choose them over other businesses. I'm also so happy that the inside is open again and that they've kept the fish tank! It was so nice walking back in. When I have the time I love to eat in. They have the best almond chicken with gravy around and honestly the best prices too! So glad to see the dining and event rooms back open! We all come here every year for our family get together - they have a really nice private room in the back; reasonable prices. $22.25 pp for the buffet with egg rolls, fried and white rice, almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken, veggie noodles and stir fried broccoli with all the sauces. The food is so delicious and fresh - if I lived near here, this would be my go-to Chinese spot. The restaurant was packed the Wednesday after Christmas. Service was good - they have a bar. This place is amazing. I do a lot of traveling around the state and eat at a lot of different restaurants, especially chinese joints. Of all the places I've been, this has been the most unique of all of them. The quality of the food is on a completely different level. I've had a variety of things off of their menu, and a few things really stand out to me: 1. Quality of beef. When you order anything with beef, the beef actually tastes like a cut of steak. Not that weird slimy beef you get at other places. 2. Sweet and sour chicken sauce. The sauce I get at a multitude of other chinese restaurants has a red color that tastes like it was made with a fruit punch kool-aid pouch. Here, it is a bright orange and actually has a sweet and sour taste, not just sweet. 3. The plum sauce they give you with your eggrolls has a kick to it. Sweet but with a sharp vinegar tinge to it that really adds so much to the eggroll itself. 4. The service is great. The inside of the place has the type of chinese inspired decor you'd expect, and the people who operate the restaurant are friendly and always attentive to their customers. The bathrooms and dining room have always been very clean whenever I've been inside. If I ever find myself in Westland on business, I always make sure to stop by. read more

The atmosphere is nice in here. The waitress was really helpful and was very nice. The egg rolls were great and so was the wonton soup. The only thing I didn't care to much was the General chicken I ordered it was pretty bland brown gravy not a lot of flavor to it. My daughter got sweet and sour chicken which was really good. My husband got sweet and sour pork which wasn't bad either. We will definitely come back to try something else out here. They definitely have a lot on the menu including alcoholic drinks. read more

Many Chinese restaurants are closed on Tuesday. This restaurant was one of the few that was open. I haven't been to this place in years. The dining room is not open. Take-out only. I ordered Pork Fried rice; Hot and Sour Soup; Beef Broccoli; Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Chicken Chop Suey. I judged a Chinese restaurant first on their fried rice. Chinese restaurants should always have solid fried rice. Not this place. Very disappointing. It had an off flavor. The Hot and Sour Soup was just OK. The Beef with Snow Pea had virtually no flavor. The Chicken Chop Suey was decent. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was good. Unfortunately, they poured the sauce over the chicken and then packed it for takeout. By the time that I got home, the once Crispy Chicken was mushy. Sauce needs to be put into a separate container for takeout. What really turned me off about this place is the owner kept begging for a tip and trying to shame me. I only had cash. I had to scrounge for coins to make up the balance. I left my credit card at home. She said again - Don't you want to give the girl a tip ? I didn't see anyone else besides her and her husband. I said - I just gave you all the money that I have. If it wasn't for the few coins in my ashtray, I would be short and forced to go home. She hands me the food and attempts to shame me again. There are good Chinese restaurants in the area. Well what happened to Chinese restaurants, this was terrible. we ordered general chicken Tao which had a weird texture to it, also the chicken pieces were long like tenders not small pieces. Honestly could not eat it, and had to throw it out. The Fried rice hd no flavor! The oil used for almond chicken made that taste weird and odd texture to the chicken. I was given a really great recommendation for this place from a couple of people I work with. I have been looking for a nice Chinese restaurant since Hawaiian Island changed hands a few years ago. This place is really clean,But the food was not good.My Wonton Soup was tasteless and the wonton was tiny and crumbled. I ordered fried Shrimp.The shrimp was under cooked and soaked in oil.The breading was pasty and gross.The fried rice was tasteless and had no veggies or sauces on it.Even the fountain drink was icky.Too much carbonated water and hardly any syrup. Awful .... Threw most of it away. Ordered thai noodles & there were very few noodles & almost no chicken in my meal. Tasteless.

We continue to go for the Almond Chicken with Fried Rice and normally the Gai Kow as well. It's a great value for the money and it's always good quality with friendly service. We have tried many different items on the menu and been satisfied with any choice we have made. The only negative feedback after all the years is with the Crab Rangoon. We have only been ordering the Rangoon at Chinese Restaurants for the last few months after seeing it mentioned by fellow Yelpers and sadly, China Star's doesn't have a very good version. It seems to have a little too much onion flavor, not enough cream cheese and the plum sauce was not as sweet as others we have tried. Aside from that it is still out favorite Chinese Restaurant. Passed by here for years, finally stopped in. This is a small, very nicely decorated place. There has been segmented areas setup and this adds an intimate ambiance. The food is typical of what one would expect. Various styles Canton, Thai, Szechuan,etc. The food is good. Huge amounts, enough for three if not four meals. The staff is friendly and very loud. Our waitstaff was having many, loud converstations what I thought was over a blue tooth and then I noticed she didn't have a blue tooth. She was actually, what sounded like, yelling at someone in the kitchen area. This needs to be checked by the management. It's not something I or other diners want to be exposed to.
