Great bang for the buck if you're looking for a relatively cheap chef's tasting menu. The Chef's tasting menu costs $68 per person and includes 10 dishes and 1 soft serve. The food is not mind-blowing, but it's an excellent deal if you want to do something a bit special and sample different dishes. And the best part? You leave the place feeling actually *full.* It is actually quite a lot of food, and we were VERY stuffed by the end of dinner! Unfortunately, I don't remember what most of our dishes tasted like now, but they were all generally good. Does not live up to the hype. They tried to squeeze us into a spot that was barely big enough for one person. We ended up moving seats to sit at the bar, yes despite sitting there still had to continuously ask for water refills. Spent plenty of money and still left hungry, and none of the dishes blew us away-- most were good, but none amazing. The sushi was ok, to robotayaki was pretty good but expensive for essentially 1 bite. ATMOSPHERE: Dimly lit, modern decor and small seating capacity; similar to other eateries in the area. Great vibe but no privacy as you're sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with others. Leave the kids at home. MENU: Modern twist on Japanese cuisine with a tasting menu. BEVERAGE: New Lovers Knot - $14.00 Not what I was expecting as this was more of a thick, pulpy juice with vodka. Marlborough Ridge Sauvignon Blanc - $11.00 Crisp and mild. FOOD: Chef's Tasting Menu - $68.00/person This is the way to go as you can try ten different dishes, eleven if you count dessert. Bring your appetite. It was a bit of homework but well worth it. The only rule is you can choose one dish per section of the menu, two from the robatayaki menu. We chose: 1. Hamachi Carpaccio (Cold Menu) - I'm not a hamachi fan but when sliced razor thin and paired with a delectable sauce and veggies, now we're talking! Very refreshing start to our evening. 2. Edamame Dumpling (Small Menu) - The spouse didn't want this selection as truffle oil was used. While I don't care for the offensive seasoning either, I had to try it as this is supposedly one of their specialties. Yup, that distinctive taste was there, but palatable to me as the light broth the dumplings were in had a nice bonito-flavor. 3. Japanese Fried Chicken (Crispy Menu) - Boneless chunks of thigh were lightly-battered and expertly fried. You have to add seasoning as the chicken is plain. A not-enough swath of mayo was painted onto the plate's side, but I dipped mine in soy sauce to give it a kick and flavor. 4. Duck Bibimbap (Meat Menu) - Pros know that the artistically-plated bowl needs to be stirred, which staff will do for you if you wish. It was a tad too sweet for me as I prefer savory. On recommendation by our server, we got the duck cooked medium-rare, but it was very chewy. Perhaps medium-well or even well done would've been better? 5. Nabemono (Fish Menu) - This dish had an extra $5/person up-charge I'm guessing due to the ingredients of whole shrimp, clams and mussels. It wasn't listed on the menu but it comes with noodles, turning what we thought was a cioppino into a spicy seafood ramen. Intense flavor but the shrimp were over-cooked and mushy. The only disappointment of the night. 6. Creamy Udon (Sides Menu) - Highly recommend. The noodles were perfectly al dente, coated in a thin cream sauce with nutty notes and added texture from the bits of hazelnut. 7. Octopus (Robatayaki Menu) - Yowza! My expectations were fulfilled! Wish it was a larger portion! Unique grilled flavor, charred edges and firm overall. Definitely and highly recommended! 8. Kobe Beef (Robatayaki Menu) - I honestly never had meat this tender. Overall, our waiter was very knowledgeable and the service was very attentive. The hostess found us seating at the happy hour section which I think they called it the cafe. The happy hour was a great way to try many dishes at a great price! The night was topped off with this amazing salted caramel ice cream. Double Knot was very dark when we first entered. We had to use the flashlight on our phone to read the menu. Came here for my birthday tried the premium chef's tasting. The service was impeccable, most of the dishes came out steadily so there wasn't a long lull in between dishes, and the dining experience overall, was exactly what you'd expect. My girlfriend and close friends enjoyed many of the dishes and the variety of dishes that came were simply put, elegant and appetizing. Each had its own highlight and there wasn't a dish in which you could say "that was alright" or "I could make this at home". It's difficult to go through each dish but when we came, the dish that really stood out was the foie gras sushi. It was light and not too sweet. The food was mediocre but good service and ambiance. The sushi rolls were good and well made, avocado was not ripe and hard. The kobe sliders were dry and hard to swallow. Do not get these. There was no flavor and meat was overcooked. The kobe hotdogs were a good choice however the kimchi fried rice was overpowered by the shrimp. It tasted more like shrimp fried rice. Pork bao was tasty but not authentic, way too sweet for braised meat. I would recommend the robatayaki - the short rib definitely melts in your mouth. Great food, very intimate, romantic ambiance, and fantastic service! I came here on a Thursday evening with a friend and we made the reservation day of. I had checked a few days prior and could have picked a reservation at any time I wanted. Day of, I got a reservation for 7:15 which was just slightly later than I preferred but impressive for such a last minute plan. We started with a couple drinks- I ordered the Carrick blend (a zero proof cocktail) and my friend got sake and a beer. I loved my drink; it was light and refreshing. We then got the tuna rice crackers and the edamame dumplings to start. I enjoyed them both but found the edamame dumplings to be quite a small portion size. The tuna rice crackers were great. I expected them to be more spicy but they were mild (which was good since my friend does not like spicy food). Then, my friend got the duck and I got the seabass. I could tell the fish was very high quality. It was tender and melted in my mouth! However, I didn't love the flavoring on it- it tasted a little bitter to me. I would probably not get it again. We finished with the mandarin shortcake which was just okay- the caramel was a little too sweet for me, though I did like the citrus flavor. I did think the meal was expensive for the amount of food we got. Would come back but next time I would try the tasting menu since we ended up spending quite a bit more than we would have on that and I feel like we would have gotten more food. They do have a free coat check.. Just a note, the downstairs bar/seating area is dark and the stairs leading down do require some caution for those who may have mobility or vision impairment. read more

Wow this place blew my mind. Definitely get the tasting menu. I thought the portions were going to be miniature but it ended up being a good amount of food. We had about 2 medium sized to go boxes of food left over. It's a great deal for the quality and you get to sample so many more things. The sashimi was really great, might have been my favorite part. I would skip out on the rib eye and get seafood instead, and the prawns were just okay. Yellowtail, tuna, and scallops were great. Service was incredibly fast. We opted for the chef's course tasting menu for the $70~ price range per person. It was a ton of food and I wished each course had enough description about the dishes from the waiter. We felt a but rushed during each tasting and ended up struggling to finish the final dish because we were so full, but overall it was a nice experience. FAB and Trendy restaurant in the heart of Philly!! Probably one of the best restaurants in the Philadelphia area, especially for your foodie lovers (there is something for everyone here though!). I cant believe it took me this long to actually do dinner here! We tried the tasting menu and got to select 10 choices from the menu (1 from each section & 2 robatayaki), as well as mochi ice cream to finish, for a very reasonable price for what you get. Some of my favorites were the scallop special sashimi, namemobe, spicy tuna tartar, and of course the toro nigiri. I've also been here for the happy hour and loved their signature edamame dumplings! The tasting is plenty of food for 2 and we even had to take home most of the fried rice. I'd definitely recommend the tasting if you're hungry and want to try various dishes that are portioned out. Of course, a la carte is always a good option too. As with most Schulson Collective restaurants, there is a great happy hour every day from 5-7pm for walk-ins only. The top floor of the restaurant is reserved for walk-ins and bar, while the lower level is a sushi counter and tables for reservations only. We sat at the sushi counter right next to the executive chef and he actually checked in on us a couple times throughout our meal to make sure we liked everything (particularly the Namemobe, which is not ordered too often but is one of his favorite dishes)! We ordered a number of rolls and sashimi, which were all on the smaller side. Also, the nori on the rolls were damp which was really unpleasant. The edamame was good, the chicken breast and shishito pepper robatayaki were fine but my goodness so expensive, and the Japanese fried chicken was basically boneless chicken wings with Japanese mayo. Lastly, the service was horrendous. It took them forever to get us drinks, to take our order, to serve us food, to get the check......and we were sitting at the bar! Let me tell you something. this place is insane. the food is incredible. I'll go through what I get: Vegetarian sushi consists of 6 pieces of rice, seaweed wrap stuff, cucumber, avocado. it's not just an average sushi roll. it's something so much more. tastes fresh and perfect. I do not have a picture but the pea dumplings are good- but I personally do not love them. I prefer a more savory bite, and these are more mild. all that said, they taste great and do not be afraid to try them! edamame is great - it's a classic of course so it isn't that crazy to hear it's good. The fried rice- amazing. however, I am vegetarian and the fried rice has shrimp in it. I haven't yet asked if they could accommodate no shrimp, i've only ever just eaten around it. I have asked if they hold the egg off simply because I get freaked out with eggs. these are all my own personal preferences and from an objective stand point everything is delicious asparagus and green onion? was amazing if you don't like vegetables I urge you to try your veggies here. they are cooked simply and let's the flavors of the veggie come through just enough. it's truly the best cooked vegetables i've ever had. the place is darkly lit, on the fancier ish side, but not too too dressed up. and happy hour will form a line outside before it starts. my advice- get there early! read more

Some of the best service I've ever received and amazing food as well! The rose knot cocktail was fabulous and we particularly loved the wagyu soup dumplings. Hasel helped us through the menu and recommended a couple of underrated dishes that we loved- the Japanese sausage and a mushroom dish which ended up being our favorites. It's very cool inside and we sat downstairs which felt like a speakeasy to us. There's candle everywhere which is very neat however the room was very warm.
