    Japanese sweet potato roll

What a wonderful Old City find. Stopped in for a quick bite and mocktail on a Thursday and had friendly service at the bar along with amazing bites. I tried the crispy rice and tuna, Japanese sweet potato roll, and oysters. Tastes were delicate and delicious and not overpowering. A lychee mocktail was perfect to round it all out and I'm down to come back!

We enjoyed our dinner at Tuna bar. The food came out quickly and the quality was decent. The ginger salad and beef spring rolls were excellent. I would order the Tuna carpaccio as it had an odd texture and flavor to it. The sushi rolls were solid. Cocktails were pretty good too. I would return if I am in the neighborhood but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Oh my. What a wonderful first place to visit in Old City! Helping a friend move in today and needed some lunch- so happy we found this place! Went around 2:00 on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Service was fast and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was definitely nicer, but I felt comfortable in jeans for lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was absolutely perfect. We shared the creamy rock shrimp, spicy tuna crispy rice, and each picked a special maki. I had the "Liberty" and my friend had the "Rittenhouse." These were big enough to be a dinner on their own, so we struggled to finish them after our appetizers. But, they were both so delicious, we had to eat every last piece. I would recommend this spot for a date night, girls' dinner, or a delicious lunch like we had.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Visited this place with a friend and it's such a delightful cute place in old city.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was good and the staff was super nice as well. We went on a Saturday about 40 minutes after opening and we were seated promptly without a reservation. Really enjoyed this place.

Loved the dinner we had here! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is really cool, it was about to rain so we chose to sit inside, but they had a lot of outdoor which I thought was really cool![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a great drink list, I got the Lycheetini which was refreshing and delicious! My friends and I got a few plates to share like the glazed Brussel sprouts, ginger salad, and vegetable fried rice! They also got the gyoza, but as a vegetarian I did not try those, my friends said they were great though. We also each got at roll, I got the Japanese Sweet Potato Roll, the flavor was good but it was super dry so a little hard to eat, I think more sauce or some spicy mayo may have helped. The service was super quick and the staff was friendly. All in all a great dinner spot and I would go back! Great start for our girls night out!

    Tuna Crudo (1/2 Eaten)

Easily some of the best fish I've ever had! The tuna crudo and yellowtail sashimi are to die for and the staff was very professional and polite. We went with no reservation around 6pm on Good Friday and they were able to get us a table in no time (though I'd definitely recommend a reservation as they get packed). While they were very busy, the food came out in a timely and we were still checked on regularly!

Tuna Bar is my favorite sushi I have had in all of Philly, dunking on other sushi heavyweights like Double Knot and Royal Sushi. I was initially skeptical upon entering, as the interior is hella contemporary and it's just kinda sceney in here. Like are we trying to be a trendy hotel bar or are we here to slang good sushi? My doubt was fed to the canvas when our feast began to roll in. All in all, we got the creamy rock shrimp, brussel sprouts, crispy rice spicy tuna, wagyu spring rolls, a yellowtail roll, a spicy salmon roll, the fishtown roll, and a liberty roll. Everything was fantastic and the quality of fish was top notch. The rock shrimp and wagyu spring rolls were the standouts until the Liberty Roll came and flipped the game on its head. The Liberty Roll came to PLAY. My taste buds had never experienced anything like it: Spicy crab & cucumber topped with torched salmon, spicy aioli, and some rice pearls. It melted in your mouth. It made you feel things you hadn't felt in years.. After torching everything, we were full af but I left it up to God and asked the waiter if they had any mochi for dessert, because my soul is incapable of passing up on good mochi. "Of course!" He responded. GOD STEPPED IN! They had green tea, strawberry, and vanilla and we got one of each and cleaned the plate. Mochi all-stars. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

Ambiance: [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the ambiance of this restaurant everything looked very upscale and the presentation of the food and drinks was amazing![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service: The service was quick! I'm not a huge sushi person, but after visiting this place. I'm definitely a huge fan! Everything we had was so fresh and delicious. I honestly kept wanting more because it was so good. The service was excellent and helped us navigate items to try, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]it was nicely decorated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would highly recommend this spot to anyone!

I really enjoyed Tuna bar! Was in the neighborhood looking for sushi and stumbled upon Tuna Bar. The sushi was very good, and saying that 2 weeks after a trip to Japan is high praise. We loved the Liberty Roll and Rittenhouse Roll. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Kind and fast service, yummy mochis for dessert and a great location in Old City.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will definitely be back!

In an era of overpriced "specialty" rolls with ingredients of far from fresh, Tuna Bar sets itself apart from other casual sushi joints. The food is decently priced and their specialty rolls are actual combinations of fish, rice, sauce, and accompaniments that explode with flavor as soon as it hits your mouth. Fresh and delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant gives off a trendy vibe while remaining casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was quick and friendly. But the thing that stuck out the most to me was the price. It was one of the more affordable sushi restaurants I've been to in a while, all while maintaining quality and freshness. I'd be happy to return any time to Tuna Bar.

Loved everything about this place! Will be my go to place every time I'm in Philly now. I feel it is not as spacious but plenty of seating. It's a very chill vibe in there. Happy hour lasted until 6pm on Friday night. My fave was the wagyu spring rolls with its sauce, had a hint of peanut butter in it. The kanarge (i know butchered the name) look like catfish bites but it's chicken with the orange sauce it was so good. Came in a good size portion to share. Also ordered the east coast oysters for $2 each definitely worth it. Total was around $50 for two which is nice. To Joleaha, the bartender, waiter and hostess (apologies I did not catch everyone's name) thank you for being welcoming and creating such an experience for my friend and I. Can't wait to come back.

Unlike others, we felt the portions were not too small. Overall a very respectable dinner showing from Almanac. I kind of regret ordering a pre fixed cocktail because his Omakase was so on point to what he asked for and was delicious. I love rhubarb and Gin is my usual spirt of choice, so I didn't want to pass up the Hanamachi Rikki, but while I found the tart rhubarb refreshing, it fell flat when placed next to the Omakase. While I enjoyed the music choices, he did not and it was also INCREDIBLY dark/moody which isn't our preference, but makes sense for the intimate vibe they are clearly going for.

While there isn't a formal coat check, there are designated racks where you can store clothing and belongings. The restaurant shares a space with Almanac, its upstairs cocktail bar. Despite being catered as a social atmosphere, I never felt that its presence (or playlist) disrupted my dining experience. There's service staff moving about the stairwell behind the Ogawa counter, but I felt you can still clearly hear and immerse yourself with the chefs during the meal. I visited with my partner for their Midweek Omakase Experience, which provides an abridged four set, 16-course meal perfect for a date night. This particularly stood out to me, since it's a $250-per couple offering that makes it more affordable and welcoming for veteran diners or first-time omakase enjoyers. The Food Breakdown: First Set (4.5/5) - The appetizer dishes were a great start to our meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the selections of cuts with the pickles on the second plate. The scallop was also seasoned incredibly well, and the brush of soy helped elevate each bite. Second Set (5/5) - Flavors from the chawanmushi helped warm the palette, especially with the chutoro of the bluefin tuna presented in this course. I felt that this set had the greater diversity of textures between bites, which made savoring it more worthwhile. Third Set (4/5) - Miso soup was a great start before we were served delicious otoro cuts of fish. The portion sizes were also excellent, and Chef Andy did a fantastic job describing each bite in full detail. My only note was that I felt the handroll sizes were very slightly inconsistent in their filling. Fourth Set (5/5) - All of the desserts were delicious and light, which made for an excellent closer to the meal. While traditionally omakase ends with a tamago-style dessert, we were also provided a vanilla ice cream and homemade chocolate to round out our experience. Chef Andy was welcoming, knowledgeable at every step of our meal, and demonstrated a clear passion in his preparation of each bite. It was a great and affordable experience for an omakase!

His attention to detail and enthusiasm added so much to the evening. Our server was also fantastic. She was warm, attentive, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the entire meal. One of my boy did not like the home made root beer and he just voiced that to me. Chef Andy call her over and they switched him to another drink, which was very nice. The combination of great service at the table and Chef Andy's guided presentation made the experience feel truly immersive. The omakase itself was phenomenal. The fish was incredibly fresh, the progression of courses was thoughtful, and every bite was memorable. It felt like a culinary journey from start to finish, with each course building perfectly on the last. Overall, this was an exceptional omakase experience and easily one of the best we've had in the States. Amazing food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
