    Persimmon cheese cake
    Nigel T.

Chef Jeff does a wonderful job with his omakase selections, presentation, and explanation. He is engaging, and shares brief anecdotes and insights as to why he selects certain courses. I loved the starter and mid course palate "resets" (included in overall 18 course count). The inclusion of two final desserts was also appreciated as other omakase experiences in Philly are sushi only. The tamagoyaki is amazing so hopefully it'll be on the menu when you dine! The atmosphere was quiet, only two others dining at omakase with our party of five. The drink server was dressed in traditional Japanese clothing and was mostly invisible, yet present. It felt too intimate to be snapping away so pictured is the menu as of Jan 15 and the final bite - the persimmon cheese cake. The available à la carte add ons at conclusion are nice but our group of hungry guys didn't need to order anything additional. Overall a great spot for omakase!

    Kissho House omakase (Dec 2025)

Overall, Kissho House was a very nice omakase experience. Since it's so close to the performance halls, we confirmed with the staff that a 6PM omakase seating would allow us to make an 8PM opera at the Perelman on time. We had a drink at the bar on the first floor and then made our way downstairs to one of two omakase rooms. The staff made sure we had a delicious experience and we made it to the Kimmel Center timely. Chef Jeff explained each of the 18 courses and we enjoyed the company of the others at our seating. As usual, my favorites were toro/tuna based, though I was surprised by the incredibly tender scallop. A few courses I wished for a bit more salt or wasabi to make it sing and there were a number of aburi-style courses (the surface of the fish is lightly torched or grilled), which isn't my favorite, but overall the courses were tasty and the rice was prepared well.

I stopped by for early dinner on a Sunday afternoon - no reservation, just wanted a seat at the bar. The bar area ambiance was nice, and the service was great. I got a fantastic drink - the Gemini effect- which had a delicious tea taste. I got 2 rolls - the spicy tuna roll and the salmon avocado roll, both of which came with 6 pieces and were tasty and fresh. Overall I had a nice time!

I really hoped this place would be good and worth the hype, but it fell short. Ambiance is nice, dark, fancy feeling. Service is good. Fast. Food could be much better. We came here late afternoon so just in time for happy hour. We got a few items from the happy hour menu and some from the regular menu. Was planning to get more if we were still hungry. Regular Menu: Kobore Roll - 5/5 probably the best thing we got. Was tasty, crunchy and just what we wanted. Spicy salmon with nori chips - 1/5. Probably the worst from what we had. Salmon was stringy and chewy and not pleasant to eat. We couldn't finish it as the texture was off. I think because of this, we couldn't enjoy the other salmon dish we had as it made us worry every bite that it was going to be stringy and chewy and not easy to swallow. The Gin with Green tea - loved the drink. Very interesting and after taste was great Happy Hour Menu: Shitake mushrooms: 4/5. skewer of 4 marinated mushrooms. Good starter but small. Grilled cauliflower: 3/5 the cauliflower was ok. The sauce it came with was interesting but the cauliflower itself should have been grilled better. Salmon Avocado - 3/5 salmon was tough. Couldn't enjoy it as the other salmon dish ruined it for us. The lychee alcoholic drink - very watered down. In summary, we didn't enjoy it as much as we had hoped. The spicy salmon appetizer needs to be better especially for the price point. We also felt that happy hour apps and drinks were lower in quality. I'm not sure if it was a one off thing where we just ended up with the worst of the bunch so maybe we will come back and try again in the future...but for now, we left wishing we went somewhere else.

Made an omakase reservation on a random Wednesday night and let me tell you, it was a sublime experience! With only 1 other couple there for omakase we truly received an intimate experience. Every fish was so good and my husband loved that he was able to order a few of his favorite pieces à la Carter after the experience was over. We will certainly be back to try their other sushi dinner options!

    Mini Chirashi Bowl

This is only a lunch review of their Mini Chirashi Bowl, but it's a hint of good things to come for an upcoming dinner reservation. The Mini Chirashi comes with an assortment of fish - salmon, red snapper, ikura - as well as diced cucumbers and tamago. These toppings were excellent. The rice was a bit dry, unfortunately, but I will just chalk this up to me coming to lunch and not dinner. The sides of pickled veggies and miso soup were excellent. I would say the miso soup with its fried tofu was probably the most flavorful miso soup I've ever had, so big thumbs up for their miso soup! I'd deinitely like to try their moriwase box someday; that looks pretty amazing from all the pictures I've seen.

*A la carte dining, not omakase* Overall a good experience! I made a day of reservation for 7:30 pm on a Saturday. When we arrived, there was a bit of a wait for us and some other parties (20 mins or so) which I found a bit odd because there were reservations available for basically every time slot. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helped us decide what to get. Once we ordered, our food came out very quickly which was a pleasant surprise given how busy the restaurant seemed to be. Every dish was good but the Wagyu robatayaki and chirashi were the best dishes that we ordered. The fatty tuna roll had generous portions of tuna and the pickled radish was an amazing touch but I just think it was expensive for what I got out of it. Definitely want to come back to try more of their dishes, especially the moriwase box!

I honestly did not have a great experience with the food. Service is great and ambiance is awesome - it's a huge restaurant with lots of tables! I came here in with some friends for a birthday dinner and honestly, I saw so many good instagram posts and TikTok's of Kissho House and was excited to come. There are a lot of options to pick from, but the food is pretty average. I'll do a breakdown of my observations: Otoro - it was chewy and had connective tissue that just made such a high quality and delicious meat, seem disgusting. Tuna Avocado - average. Nothing special. Chicken Wings - this was really good! Smoky and flavorful. Double Dragon - average. I really just have nothing else to say. I typically love a dragon roll, but this was just eh for the price point. Truffle Wagyu Fried Rice - didnt really seem like anything special either for the price point. Lots of fancy sounding things in the ingredients, but ultimately it just tasted like an average fried rice with very small bits of beef. Kissho Fries - they're fine. They're super crispy though! All in all - will I come back? I dont know. But just pricey.

Really good omakase experience in Philly! The staff was super nice and attentive. The chef explained everything we were eating and how to eat it. Nice seating around the chef in the basement, only 4 other people at our session. 19 courses, not everything pictured here. Everything tasted super fresh and all the fish was so tender and melt in your mouth.

    Mango Thunder

I came here on a whim with some friends on a Sunday and had if the best, most fresh sushi! We got the hamachi special, it was summer and there was passionfruit on it and we LOVED IT! Got the mango special roll and the texture was phenomenal. We will definitely be back and can't wait to try the omakase!

We love happy hours here! The prices are excellent, service is great, beer and sake are less expensive and the sushi is fresh. We go for the basics like edamame and gyoza to start followed by salmon, tuna, and yellowtail rolls. Agedashi tofu and the charcoal offerings are wonderful as well. I also recommend going off HH menu for a delicious cocktail. My favorites are The Whatever and Are we there yet? BTW, There is a sexy Omasake joint downstairs that I haven't tried yet but I'll update my review after I get to it.

    Dave H.

Nice intimidate atmosphere with good service, but so-so food. Sushi was decent, with the wasabi being strangely mild with no kick. As someone that likes big flavor, that aspect made the meal a little disappointing since wasabi goes along with a lot of the dishes I ordered. Nothing was bad about my experience here, but nothing was too memorable either.

    Moriwase box
    Jen T.

Lovely, intimate spot with decent service and delicious drinks! I recently wrote a review where we'd had some extremely disappointing $16 cocktails elsewhere, but Kissho's cocktails blew us away! The Taste of Japan is a must! I want to go back just for that drink! Creamy passionfruit flavor that's not too sweet, perfectly balanced. I don't know why it's called the taste of Japan because I associate passionfruit with Southeast Asia, but whatever! I got the moriwase box and my husband got one of the lunch specials, the spicy tuna don or something. His was okay. The rice felt too dry to me, and the tuna was okay. But the moriwase box was a delight! It had a mix of wagyu beef skewers, chicken karaage, different sashimi, the octopus salad, and other stuff I don't remember. I will say, the sashimi did not blow me away. Some of it was melt-in-your-mouth awesome, but some of it was not. Still, it was good value, and very filling. The wagyu was my favorite part, it was perfectly grilled and oh so juicy! Also, this place wasn't that busy for weekday lunch--it'd be a great option for a lunch date!

Left 25 minutes later than planned. [Fast forward: the guy next to us was wearing a full suit.] We arrived at 5:30 and were told the wait for a walk-in was 20 minutes, so we went to Graffiti Bar next door. P wanted a marg, which was not on the cocktail menu, so the bartender asked what kind of tequila. P said Patrón. We started our happy hour evening with $45 cocktails. The wait was actually only 10 minutes, but they give you a 10-minute grace period once they text you, so we had to chug nevertheless. There is a pipe that says "warm" as you walk in. Touch at your own risk. Now at Double Knot. We ordered the tuna roll and salmon rolls. Good, but not that good. J wanted the yaki soba and liked it. P liked the pork potstickers. J ordered a Sapporo and an argument ensued about how to pronounce "a" in Japanese and/or other Asian languages. A professional woman once scolded J for mispronouncing Wang. We then played odds to determine whether J would turn his Sapporo into a sake bomb using P's sake. Both guessed 5. The sake did in fact "bomb," erupting all over the table and causing a scene. The wait staff did not notice because the ambiance, while "lit," is actually pretty dark. Coast clear. For revenge, we played odds again. P lost and was forced to put soy sauce in her sake and chug it. She took it like a champ. The waitress complimented P's top as we left. Margs at the pourover bar next door: $45. Rolls at Double Knot happy hour: $8. A compliment on a $3.69 top after arriving 36 minutes later than planned: priceless. 7/10.

Our server was attentive, kind and helpful. They HUSSLE here to bus and clear tables. Timing for patrons arriving and being sat was like it was scripted, it was so flawless. No one waiting at the entrance corridor on arrival. Machine precision. Now, our meal- I'm drooling in my daydreams over it. We tried many plates & loved the portion size to be able to do so. The chicken wings- crisp, thick golden fried and tender. The toro with caviar- silk. A touch of brine, a melt in your mouth pleasure. The grilled octopus had an unassuming spice, mellow char and just the right consistency of chew. My husband ordered a surprise- I was scared. Fish heads. WTF, ok here we go. The plate came- heads on heads, quite the portion. This fish- first bite down, intimidation gone. This is one of the best things we've ever eaten. Succulent, moist fall apart whitefish. Didn't even taste like it was battered, no thickness to the breading. It tasted fried but so clean it didn't make sense how good it was. I don't have words. The chirashi bowl was solid overall and had good quality cuts of fish for $52. Everything tasted fresh and balanced, but next time I think I'd personally just order the sakedon instead. The chasu bao also wasn't really worth the $14 in my opinion. It was still good, just not something memorable or mind blowing. Same with the wagyu steak, for $38, it honestly just tasted like a really good steak, and the portion was a little smaller than I expected. My favorite appetizer was definitely the miso eggplant. Such a unique combination of flavors and the eggplant was cooked incredibly soft and well. It almost tasted like a sweet potato with the miso on top, and I would absolutely order it again. But the standout of the night was easily the Aka Taka roll. For a $27 roll, I had very high expectations and somehow they were all met. The roll was stuffed with different cuts of tuna that were unbelievably soft and buttery, and there was this crunch in the middle, maybe daikon? Whatever it was, it added the perfect texture. Honestly, it's something I'd go back just for.
