I waited over five minutes to order a drink--after watching a parade of men get served without issue--just to be blatantly ignored by the bartender. When I finally tried again (you know, for myself and my husband, because apparently, women don't drink alone), I was dismissed again. The bar hand was polite, so at least someone passed Charm School. The Commodore from Boardwalk Empire would feel right at home. There is a marble bar, dark wood, and wing-backed leather seating. Bartenders match the decor with leather aprons and precise cocktails. I like the martini. It has a two-stage-ice-cold presentation which is pretty cool especially if enjoying a drink is more of a priority than gulping it down. On the topic of gulping, dollar oysters and half priced drinks are available, but only before 6, which happens to be the time when parking is difficult. The best burger we have ever had! We sat in these amazing game room leather chairs and waited for our food to come out. The chairs were so comfortable. The staff was incredibly polite and they knew their one page short and sweet menu. The crispy fries were also absolutely superb! So... I used to love double standard. I haven't been back since my cardigan I left there one day mysteriously disappeared. I called to confirm that they found it, and they had, and the person I spoke to was setting it aside for me. He said, "just come in and I have your name on it ". Well the next day I went by and it was gone. Nobody could find it. Anywhere. And I have never been back since. Sometimes the customer experience on things like sentimental cardigans that get left behind that are found and then mysteriously lost make the difference when you have your choice of good downtown bar/restaurants. We came here our first night of the conference and ended up coming back because the drinks were superb. I ended up getting an Old Fashion and a Sazerac and I watched the bartender really put a lot of attention into making them. The second night I wanted to take it easy but my colleague ended up ordering me a huge goblet of beer. I'm not joking when I say this freaking thing was huge. I read some reviews about the service being iffy but I had no troubles both nights we came here. I had to wait a little bit but the bartenders were busy and everyone was being acknowledged and taken care of. We had a special event and have been wanting to try this place after all the positive comments. Unfortunately this became a 1 and done for us. Ambience: We went on a Monday afternoon around 2pm so the place was pretty empty. Ended up choosing to sit at the bar which was nice. A 4 for cleanliness and setting. Food: I ordered 1/2 dz oysters as a starter along with the scotch eggs. I like oysters on the half shell with fresh lemon, horseradish and Tabasco. I did get the lemon but would have liked the net around the lemon to catch the seeds. Not much but a place like this should do that I think. No horseradish and no Tabasco in the restaurant. They had a hot sauce in a tiny little plastic fish shaped container. Would have been easy to miss had I not asked for hot sauce. Our scotch eggs got burnt so they informed us that they were being remade. When the finally got served ( after our entree salads were served - more on that), they were tasty but at this time we were starving so I think anything would have tasted good. Now for the salads - we ordered their Caesar and the Wedge salads. The salads were served on a small 6" plate. Ridiculously difficult to eat without food falling all over the counter. My Caesar was dry so I asked for some dressing. Turned out the bottom part of the salad was dressed but the top was dry. The wedge salad was a lot better but once again very difficult to enjoy. Part of serving food in a restaurant setting should be making sure food is served in the right vessel. This was a big miss. We also ended up having to ask for a knife to be able to cut the lettuce on the wedge salad. Overrate for sure so for me the food experience was a 2 at best. Drinks: since my wife and I were celebrating, we ordered an old fashioned and a Matador. The drinks were good so a sold 4 for me. Overall this place did not work for us and we felt the food was expensive ($13) per salad with no protein on the Caesar. I'm not even sure how they would have fit the protein on my Caesar served on a small side salad plate. read more

Very unwelcoming. We ordered oysters, not bad, but beware the sauces are SPICY! We weren't offered crackers with the oysters, so not sure they are offered We also order the blackened chicken sandwiches, VERY basic! The fires were cold as well.
