While visiting San Antonio, I wanted to find a place that has good oysters. This place was recommended to me and it did not disappoint. The oysters were perfectly picked, super delicious with all the right fixings to dress them up. Yum! The drinks were good as well. I normally drink Hennessy, however they did not have Hennessy so the bartender recommended a different cognac. Great recommendation! I cannot remember the cognac brand but it was good. The bartenders name is Isaac and he was super cool and friendly. I plan on going back before I leave to head home!
Dope ass place that was open during the ice storm. Really close to the Majestic Theater we had just left. Order at the bar, great drink menu & craft cocktails. Snack time came around and we ordered the crispy fries and wings. Both delicious! Ordered a DS Burger to-go for the hotel...my goodness! Really hit the spot. Service was friendly & engaging. Restaurant was dim and cozy; great place for a large group OR as a couple. They do carry daily specials on the food menu - so be sure you ask.
During our shenanigans, my friend & I decided to pop in for a drink. The bar is lovely, and the décor is quirky - decorative plates glued to the walls, unique murals in the bathroom, a skeleton in a phone booth, outlandish pictures & other oddities throughout. You order at the bar and grab a seat. The communal tables encourage you to converse with a stranger. The cocktail menu features a mixture of Southern classics and Tiki libations. I was impressed to see a Crusta on the menu and requested it to be prepared the traditional way with Brandy. (You can have it with your spirit of choice.) My friend ordered an Old Fashioned, which was served in a chilled rocks glass. Both cocktails were expertly prepared and were perfect. . After our first drink we moved over to a table so we could watch the NCAA March Madness games. I noticed they had fried blue cheese olives on the menu and figured they would have them as a cocktail garnish too, so I asked my friend to order me a martini with blue cheese olives. LOL! I guess I was wrong because the martini was served with a twist, and the fried olives arrived a few minutes later. The martini was spot on and came with a sidecar on ice. (I wish every establishment served them this way.) The fried blue cheese olives were delicious, so it was a happy accident. We also ordered the oysters, which are a great deal during Happy Hour at $1.50 each. They were fresh & tasty. My friend and I enjoyed our visit and came back the next day. This time I ordered the martini without the olives and both times the bartenders were fantastic! *Happy Hour Daily 11:30 am - 6 pm *Unisex bathrooms
We went on a lively Saturday night, the vibes were chill. So they got this great happy hour from 11:30am-6pm, $1 oysters, half of cocktails, super AMAZING. because the cocktails are pretty pricy regularly but i honestly do not mind paying for a great quality cocktail. The spirits are top shelf or they taste like it LOL. very high quality drinks. Friendly staff and bartenders and the decor is great.
Classic modern full bar with seafood and common bistro bites. Their happy hour menu was the reason for my family's visit and certainly lived up to our hopeful expectations. Their dollar fifty easy coast oysters were a bargain! They are a bit on the smaller side but they come with horse radish, hot sauce, lemon, and other tangy toppings. We had ordered 30 for the table and a few other plates and drinks. For a starter I had their Paloma dressed with tajin and nice slice of grapefruit. It wasn't that strong but had nice bitters and subtle sweet hints. It was an easy start for a nice value of $7 for happy hour. Their Gold Rush cocktail was another zesty citrus strong cocktail i enjoyed. It was a bit more boozy and an enjoyable buzz. Their blackened chicken sandwich seemed dry by account of my partner and the burgers were certainly a savory salted meaty punch of a classic bar bite for me. Their fries also were excellent, plenty of them and well done served with ketchup. Overall we had an awesome time sharing the oysters, indulging in our burgers, and going a few rounds at the bar. The restaurant was kept neat and serviced by a helpful efficient team. I'd certainly return!
We stopped here for a drink as the name was fantastic and had a few eye catching decorations. We had already eaten so this was just to check out the drinks and vibe. We sat at the bar, though there were several tables of various size to choose from as well. The bartender we got was fast, friendly (a rare thing this trip) and suggested happy hour which is something like half the day long which is great. I tried a green tea cocktail. Only had this as a shot before and it was pretty good. The place has some cool décor and fun stuff around like a skeleton in a phone booth and random and varied decorative plates and porcelain figures. I didn't use the bathroom but they have two UNISEX bathrooms. Place was clean and chill. Nice place to hang out. But what did Shana think? Lets See... SHANA SAYS: Fun Spot! Creative cocktail menu! Would have loved to have tried the food menu if we hadn't just had a huge lunch. LOL Super cute and casual vibe. Lots of fun glassware, bottles, and porcelain plates everywhere as decoration. Ample seating and a great location downtown by venues and hotels, etc. Great happy hour prices (see pictures) and extended hours. Will definitely make sure to stop back next time we're in San Antonio!!
Nice spot, with good food and a happy hour from open to 6 pm daily! Happy hour included $2 draft beer, $1.50 oysters, $5 cocktails. The fries were delicious and we got some shrimp cocktail also. Nice interior with plants, bar seating, tables and some lounge chairs. It's in downtown so I'm not sure what the parking situation is; we walked from the district clerk finance office a couple of blocks away and parked at a surface lot for $10.
Stopped by for a quick happy hour drink with some coworkers. The bar was clean and ordering was easy. I got their happy hour paloma which was good and boozy. There's plenty of seating inside. Great place to catch up with friends or just enjoy an afternoon by yourself. Did not try any food this time but hopefully next time.
Was pleasantly surprised trying this place for the first time with family. Was a gem next to my hotel. Great atmosphere and knowledgeably friendly bartender recommendations. Plus, food paired well with my drinks. Felt like an upscale speakeasy. Only reason I'd give it a 4/5 is that I would call ahead during Thursday-Saturday. Especially when conventions or other events are going on downtown because they rent out private events during dinner hours.
Overall, our experience at Double Standard is always great. We love how close it is to the Majestic and how easy it is to grab a well-balanced cocktail and a good quality meal. If it weren't for the steak frites last night, I'd give more stars because we love it here, but this dish has gone downhill. It used to be on the menu everyday, and it was one of our favorites. Perfectly cooked and flavorful. But last night, the steak was cut with the grain, and it was so tough that it was difficult to chew. We were not impressed. All the other food was incredible as always. The boudin balls are a welcome addition to the menu; my husband raved over the pierogis; and our cocktails were perfect. The fish and chips is also delicious. We will definitely be back; we love this place! But, the steak is definitely off of our order rotation .

Swanky and hip is what I think of when it comes to Double Standard. You'll walk in to a wonderful atmosphere in an old historic building. This is where'd you come to have a Sunday Funday. A few rows of tables that seat 8 a nice "L" shaped bar. Double is the standard for a good time . read more

This place is pretty cool, on a Saturday evening it was pretty slow, plenty of seating and I was informed the kitchen does not close until 1:30am. For a Saturday night the music could've been more lively but service was top notch. Great tequila selection (if you know you know). We stopped in to Double Standard to try some of their happy hour offerings. They have great deals on drinks and food during happy hour. The oysters are a dollar during happy hour and they are delicious!! The drinks are also a great deal! I love the environment with the beautifully restored bar this place has great appeal. I want to go back for more of their food offerings and their steak special looks awesome! read more

Everything here is handcrafted from the specially drinks to the food. Even a simple michelada is elevated. Super friendly staff and you can tell they all got along and enjoyed being there. The vibe is laidback and cool, not stuffy or uptight. I think I've found a new favorite downtown bar! read more

I'll be honest, I stopped in because I saw a double wedge salad in the menu board outside and couldn't not go in, I LOVE a wedge salad and this didn't disappoint. They mean what they say when they said double, lol. It was huge and delicious. I generally don't like raw tomatoes but the tomato confit on the wedge was so good as well. I also had an amaretto sour, which was beautiful and delicious. It has a great atmosphere and both the bartender and gentleman who brought my order were lovely too. read more
These are the best scotch eggs I've had yet in Texas! All the food was great and thier tiki drinks are well worth it. The bartender and food runners and busters were all extremely helpful and hospitable! Great teamwork and all positive memories from the moment we entered to actually calling out of the phone booth (it actually works!) Can't wait to go back again! read more
I was downtown on a Monday and I decided to check this place out. The $3 well's special was great because they always make it a double. The burger I got was really tasty and I loved their cheese. The service was good not great. I sat down at the bar and it took them around five minutes to get acknowledged. It wasn't very busy at all. Things were great after I was acknowledged. It's a great place for drinks and food. The happy hour specials are fantastic. I will be back for the steak sandwich one day in the near future. read more

2 hour wait for food at lunch time AND sat next to owner of the restaurant who was having his lunch receiving extra great service As he watched my party of 8 without food drink or even water. He held court for his fan club and I even had to wait to get to my seat after using facilities while the owner boasted with his friends as I stool waiting for my seat back. Service person assuming was not pleased with his job because there was no empathy about the long wait. Quality of food tasted like a box of salt- The one cocktail I did have was good but we could have ordered many more of the service person checked in with us. Business lunch - we will not return. Finally checked out this new spot and was happy I did! The inside is cozy with a nice atmosphere to it. Very inviting and well decorated with nice furniture and fascinating knickknacks. The bartenders were professional and I really enjoyed my Paloma. I went in December and they decorated for Christmas which was cute. This is a perfect place to catch up with a couple friends and would make for a really great date spot too. I didn't try the food, but it looked good. Will have to try some next time! read more
We got here by a waiter recommendation from a different restaurant :) He said the burgers were the best, so that is what we got and an appetizer. This place looks like and English Pub, I liked the decor and the vibe. Bartenders really know what they are doing! Important note, you have to order at the bar. We got an appetizer that for my taste was little strong in flavor. It had serrano ham, some sort of cream cheese and what looked like sliced green tomatoes, on top of a thick slice of bread and drizzle with a vinaigrette. Probably less vinaigrette would've been better for me. We didn't finished it, but it was good. Now the burger, OMG, so good! Small, which for me was perfect ( you can make it double if you have a bigger appetite), so tasty and the meat cooked to perfection! and the fries were so crispy. We didn't get a drink but they looked amazing, not your normal bar, this bar has top notch drinks. I was hesitant to write a review because of how much of a hidden gem this is, but I want it to be open for a long time and a huge success! Awesome food, quality ingredients and amazing flavors. Went for lunch highly anticipating to try the standard burger featured on Texas Eats. We were highly disappointed. The burger did not have a patty it was like pieces of meat. The flavor was not consistent, the bites were different in flavor it wasn't distributed evenly. I never saw the caramelized onions. I really wanted to like this place. Fries were on the dry side for me. Service was great! Disappointed on the food. read more
Came here for happy hour, it's in the old Rosella location and across the street from my office. The menu is great, prices are super reasonable and the food menu isn't super crazy priced. The beers were cold and service was great. It was pretty busy, which is awesome since it just opened and we have been craving a new place downtown. Will be back for sure. Update 7/7/2022: they have stopped table service and you must order at the bar. We can't come here as a team and individually order at the counter. And eating dinner and having to get up each time to order food and drinks is senseless. I will return it to 5* when they decide to have service. Secondarily, they had 5 bar tenders and four customers and still wouldn't come to the tables. read more

Stopped in for a drink and was so pleased. I got the Femme Fatale and it was great. The setting was modern and the walls had an assortment of artwork that was reminiscent of an Applebees but more upscale and intentional. Service was friendly and professional, though it was a bit busy and it took a while to get my cocktail. read more

I visited Double Standard for their Friday Steak Lunch. My steak was cooked rare when I asked for medium. It was still pretty tasty. I also ordered the Caesar salad, not my favorite. Otherwise, service was great! read more
This was a hard review to write. The ambiance and decor is 10/10! Ou muster happy hour a great deal at $1/piece before 6pm. I had the sherry cocktail that was very good, you can tell it's from the hot joy family of drink quality. What turned us off was that with a ton of staff no one was leading them and the kitchen kept putting up food that would sit for like 10/15 mins while all this staff was doing stupid stuff like folding napkins and refilling endless water carafes. The a manger was not doing his job. I know they were only open a week or two when we visited but this is basic. We didn't order food here due to this, but we did get a creme brûlée that then sat on the warmer for 10 mins and no one was available for us to flag down and it wasn't great. We might try again after they have some time to get it together. It has potential. read more

Really nice vibes here - it's dark and rustic, but classy. Dim lighting, contemporary fixtures, gleaming white marble bar, polished wooden tables, and classical art that deserves a closer look. We just stopped in for drinks, so didn't get any food. It was a small menu, but looked fun. There were no vegetarian options for their larger plates, but there were a couple of meatless options in their starters and salads. They have a small fun drink menu with cocktails, beer and shot combos, fun shots, and some non alcoholic drinks that are also delicious. We all enjoyed our drinks and espresso martini shots. The service was great and I'll definitely stop by again for another drink or two. read more

The best bartenders in town, all highly trained. The ambience will remind you of a classic bar. I recommend you come for happy hour and definitely have to try the burger. read more
The atmosphere is unique for San Antonio. Kind of old school subway vibes. Drinks were good, great happy hour deals. We got the oysters and they were great. The steak sandwich was a little salty for my taste can't comment on any other food. read more
The Commodore from Boardwalk Empire would feel right at home. There is a marble bar, dark wood, and wing-backed leather seating. Bartenders match the decor with leather aprons and precise cocktails. I like the martini. It has a two-stage-ice-cold presentation which is pretty cool especially if enjoying a drink is more of a priority than gulping it down. On the topic of gulping, dollar oysters and half priced drinks are available, but only before 6, which happens to be the time when parking is difficult. Double Standard is worth a buck or two in the parking meter, or better yet: whip out grandma's handicap parking placard and park on the street for FREE. read more
