The Double Tree Hilton in Downtown Pittsburgh is a place I've stayed a few times while coming back home to visit family or see friends. Things I love about it would be: The valet is pretty efficient The restaurant typically doesn't not get overly crowded and serves a good breakfast and lunch The 7-11 connected to the hotel The staff at the hotel is friendly The beds are comfortable The WiFi is great The location downtown Things the could use some work: Lack of public restrooms in the hotel- the first floor bathroom was broken or under construction The elevators were a bit slow The rooms were a bit dated Getting to the valet - both your car and literally by person can be confusing Overall this is a good hotel for me to stay at for a few nights. I enjoy the double tree. This staff here has always treated me nicely and has taken care of me. This hotel does need a little TLC to it, however I will continue to stay here. This is a quality hotel in the downtown region.

We have stayed here three times now and each time was a good experience. Service is always good from front desk, housekeeping, to Valet. I also enjoy the rooms and pool. If you are a Hilton Honors member eligible for upgrades this location is really good with those. This is my go-to hotel in Pittsburgh.

The DoubleTree is a hotel chain that has hundreds of properties in dozens of countries. This particular DoubleTree is located in downtown Pittsburgh. This hotel is within walking distance of the entire downtown area, including the business district (which also has many restaurants and much entertainment), the Hill (which contains the Penguins arena), and other neighborhoods, and it is a short walk to the T subway "Steel Plaza" station to reach the North Shore (for the Steelers and Pirates). The hotel has a few hundred rooms across 21 floors. Standard rooms and suites are available in a variety of sizes, layouts, and prices. Amenities include the Bigelow Grille restaurant, garage with valet parking for $36 per night, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, laundry facility, wi-fi, meeting rooms, business center, convenience store, etcetera. The hotel is pet-friendly and allows one dog up to 50 pounds. My husband and I have stayed at this DoubleTree hotel off and on for over a decade, initially for visits when we lived out of state and more recently for staycations. Our most recent room was a standard room with a king bed for two nights for a total of $386 (including taxes and fees). We dropped our vehicle off in the garage, and then we rode the elevator down to the lobby to check in. We waited in line for several minutes to check in. The employee spoke nicely to us and handed over our key cards as well as two free chocolate-chip cookies. Our room was clean and in mostly good condition. The room contained a comfortable bed, a large television, a desk and chairs, a wine refrigerator, etcetera. The windows gave us beautiful views of the downtown skyline. The blinds and curtains blocked out the city lights at night, but their rod was crookedly attached to the wall. The bathroom lacked a fan, so when we showered, water droplets formed on the ceiling and dripped down. The water, though, had excellent pressure and comfortable temperatures, and I liked the quality of the body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and bar soap. Overall, we have enjoyed all of our stays here. Although I did not award a 5-star rating, we would stay at this hotel again in the future, because we think that it is the best value in the downtown area.

Stayed at this hotel while in town for a concert at the arena. The location was perfect ! We were pretty much able to walk everywhere - the arena, museums, restaurants. The customer service was good - staff was friendly and attentive, and of course we were given warm cookies when we arrived. The room itself was just ok. It didn't seem super clean. The bedding had a few dirty spots, maybe makeup. The bathroom didn't have a vent, so after showering, there was always dampness in the air. It seemed like a mold problem waiting to happen. When we checked in there was also hair in the tub. A more thorough cleaning would have gone a long way.

Nice room, but I need more counter space in the bathroom. This is an odd room. There's a work area with a nice desk and plenty of room. There is a small refrigerator and microwave. It almost looks like it's not finished.

    Wallpaper peeling off the wall

Hilton should be embarrassed to have their name on this hotel. It is extremely run down. The wall switches are dirty. The wallpaper is falling off the walls in the bathroom as well as in the room itself. The blinds were ripped and falling apart as well. The shower drain is chipping. Overall, the quality is pretty bad. I absolutely would not stay at this location again. This is not what I expect from Hilton properties. Our room just felt gross.

Stayed here upon our visit for a concert at PPG Arena. The room was nice; pretty clean except the carpet. I believe the room number was 817. It had a separate living room area and a desk area. The bedroom was spacious and the bathroom was small but clean. When we checked in, I was surprised to discover most area restaurants were only open for lunch. So we waited for the hotel restaurant and bar to open at 4pm to have a late lunch/dinner prior to the concert. We sat at the bar, which was full. The bartender was very nice and attentive. We ordered some food - I had the Grilled Romaine Salad with salmon, which came up to $27. My boyfriend had the Turkey BLT. Food was good. Typical for a hotel - expensive and not worth the money but it was satisfying. We had drinks prior to the concert as well. Our bill was around $95 before tip. In the morning, I enjoyed coffee in the room from the coffeemaker which was convenient. We had a quick checkout and the front desk was friendly. The $30 valet only parking is a little excessive but the attendants were quick & friendly. Would stay here again for another concert.

The hotel was clean and very nice. The front desk staff weee helpful and accommodating. It was nice that we were able to bring our dog with us. They would have got a 5 if the breakfast menu would have been more family friendly.

I booked a stay here for one night, as I had business in the area and this seemed to be centrally located to where I needed to meet, as well as decent restaurants and bars that I could walk to. When I arrived, there were no valet personnel in the garage and having never been here before, I didn't know exactly where to park my car in the garage to wait for them. I parked it and went into the office there and someone took my keys and phone number. They do have a text-based valet system, which is easy and convenient. Next, I headed to the lobby to check-in and the guy who checked me in didn't seem to have a very good attitude, he was a little curt and told me it didn't matter if I added my Hilton Honors number, since I used a 3rd party, but I'm still gold and I wanted that listed. No other description of the hotel, amenities, etc was given, just my key and I was off to my room. When I got into the room and a quick check of it (it wasn't very clean, with stains on the carpet and moldy caulk around the tub, etc) there was poop and used toilet paper in the toilet - GROSS! Made me feel like the rest of the room wasn't clean. Why was I given a room like this? I tried to flush the toilet and it didn't flush. I ended up holding the flushing handle to get it to go down. I had a quick business call to take and then a limited window of time for lunch and then another call, so I didn't complain about this, yet... But it was my plan. So, I ran out for lunch and came back to see my door open... I walked in and a maintenance guy was there fixing the toilet. I hadn't had a chance to advise that the toilet didn't work, so how did he know? I'm assuming housekeeping told him. So again, why was I given a defective room if others knew there were issues with it?? The maintenance guy left his plumbing snake sitting on the carpet while he worked on the toilet - So much for understanding cross-contamination! This REALLY grossed me out and I ended up using towels as floor covers on that area of the carpet. The TV worked well and the bed was comfy. I did try the hotel restaurant for breakfast the next morning and it was really good. Doubt I'd stay here again.

I stayed here one night because I thought the trendy Bloomfield neighborhood would provide a nice change-of-pace from the more established downtown area. I was also planning to drive to upstate New York and thought this would be a convenient location for a faster getaway. Well, a sudden winter snowstorm forced me to cancel the side trip to New York, and I ended up spending very little time exploring Bloomfield because I took a long nap in my room after a sleepless night in the previous hotel. Even though it was bordering on pointless to shift to this hotel, I still enjoyed the studio I reserved for $152. There was a comfortable king bed, a fully equipped kitchen, a corner sofa, and a 360-degree swivel flatscreen TV. It was a lot of amenities I didn't need, but hey, it was freezing cold, so the apartment set-up made it feel cozy. One other advantage was a sizable lot to park my rental SUV. Even though they offered a happy hour and continental breakfast, I skipped both. Instead I braved the cold and just strolled on Baum to find a decent greasy spoon for dinner and a quiet gay bar for a drink. Not a bad stay, and I'd consider a return to explore Bloomfield. The parking is pricey. I absolutely hate paying for parking. I wish this came with the hotel stay as it was also already priced on the higher end. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. I would probably pick a day that didn't fall on a holiday weekend for a less expensive stay.

This past weekend (checking in Friday, June 12; checking out Sunday, June 14) was the end. When I checked in, another guest was at the front desk requesting a fan. The person checking me in seemed involved with that, so they didn't seem concerned with filling me in. It turned out, however, that the air-conditioning was broken for the entire hotel. After around a half-hour, I really started to notice the heat and humidity in my room. My wife was arriving later (after a difficult air-travel day), so I went back to the front counter to inquire about the AC. This time, there was one couple checking in with the person I had spoken to. and that couple was given extensive detail about the AC issue. When it was my turn, I noted that I had just checked in and got none of that detail. She told me then that there was no way of knowing when the AC would be fixed, but if it wasn't fixed by 6 p.m., there would be a discount; or, if we chose to leave, there would be no charge. Something, at least. A little while later, the AC kicked on. Excellent! I set the AC as low as possible to cool things off. The AC was actually set to 62 degrees from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Despite that, the coolest it got was 68 degrees on Sunday morning. Midway through the day on Saturday afternoon, it was around 77 as we were trying to get dressed for a wedding. (There were actually two wedding parties staying at the hotel for the weekend, all dealing with poor AC at a supposedly "luxury" hotel). We called back to the front desk about 1 p.m. Saturday, and they expressed shock that our room was not cooler because the AC had been fixed. A few minutes after our call, the room began to cool to a reasonable temp (though, again, never anywhere near the actual temp it was set to). My wife decided the hotel was intentionally turning off the AC to try to save money. I decided that they weren't being intentionally malevolent, but rather they were just inept. Either way, the hotel absolutely failed to live up to what it had once been. We won't be recommending or returning again. Also of note: - The hotel website notes its Spirits and Tales restaurant is open for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. But don't be fooled into thinking that means you can order lunch on Saturday; they only have their brunch menu (which is almost identical to their breakfast menu. The salads and sandwiches on their lunch menu are not available.) That said, at least we could get into the restaurant this time. On a previous stay, we arrived to discover the entire restaurant and bar had been booked by another party, so we had to go elsewhere for a drink. - The hotel's other restaurant, Cork and Crust, is also not open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday. So if you do want lunch on the weekend, don't expect to get it at this hotel. (The pizza I purchased Friday night was fine; I wasn't a big fan of the non-traditional Margherita pizza (with pesto and slices of garlic), but I'm picky about pizza.) - The carpet in our room was fraying. The mini-bar refrigerator was empty. - Apparently, the hotel was used as an overflow space for students from the University of Pittsburgh in recent times. That may explain why things are a little worn. But the idea that I'm paying luxury hotel prices for a glorified dormitory is a little much for me. The one positive is the man working the desk downstairs at the Lower Lobby. He's been there for a number of years, and he always remembers my wife and I (even if it's been a while since we were last there). He's kind, friendly, and helpful. The parking valets are always fast and friendly too, but the main guy at the desk really does an excellent job.

I was immediately blown away with the foyer! At check in, there is fruit infused water to quench your thirst. Make sure you keep your room key in hand because you will need it to operate the elevator (once in, hold it against the black box until light turns green and quickly select your floor). The hallways were incredible! And still had their old charm! I even picked up the old fashioned telephone and it rings the front desk! You can use it shall you need something ... if for some reason you cannot enter your room, just pick up the black phone in the hallway and they will come to you (this didn't happen to me, but just a tip if it does). I stayed in room 1470 and absolutely love my view of the gothic architecture of the Union Trust. I looked out my window a million times! The size of my room was huge! I could have done cartwheels all over the place! The WiFi is complimentary for guests. There's cable TV. Maybe other options too but I didn't have my tv on much to know. The water pressure deserves its own special shout out! Holy moly it was heaven! And the brand of washes they had was nice! Usually the conditioner isn't good enough in hotels for my hair but this was just fine! And there's a good blow dryer on the back of the door (I still used my own because I have a lot of hair and it's long BUT had I forgotten it, their hair dryer would have been just fine at 1875 watts. There's a tag on your door that you can hang if you'd like to skip housekeeping for a day and the hotel will donate a meal for doing so .. check out the tag for more info! There's also cards you can put on your bed if you want your bedding changed. I was never bothered in my room by housekeeping. I was never bothered by noise. I never experienced a phony phantom call to my room. (All things I've experienced at other places). You will get a free drink at checkout you can get a beer at the tap room or a coffee at Mellon Square (on site). It is not good for the speakeasy ... and yes, it's a real speakeasy that existed in the 1920s you could access thru tunnels under the city! So cool! On checkout day, the event I attended was going to start early and finish after checkout time. Since I was up late the night before, the front desk said I was welcome to bring my bags down now for bellhop to hold, but they also put me for a late checkout at 1pm so I could come down late the next day too. So partway thru the event just before 1pm I brought down my bags and they held them for the next 90 mins I was there. I parked across the street at the Mellon square parking garage ... Apple GPS marks the garage in the wrong place FYI ... it marks it about a block away but it is directly across the street from the hotel, with the entrance to it being on the cross street. I paid $44 to park there from Thursday around 5pm to Sunday around 3pm. Not bad. They do have valet parking at the hotel too but that is $55 per day I believe. Leaving was sad. I would have liked more time to enjoy this place. I would love to come back sometime! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Wonderful staff and incredible hotel! Thank you for this amazing stay!
