My brunch experience was incredible in every way! The atmosphere and service was lovely. You start off with beverages and then a fresh fruit cup and pastries. All of the fruit was perfectly ripe and sweet! Our pastries included a lemon blueberry muffin and banana bread - both phenomenal. You then choose between a sweet entree, a savory entree or eggs any style. I chose the sweet which was blueberry lemon waffles with choice of breakfast meat. The fruity flavors were refreshing yet decedent on the fluffy, crisp waffles. I loved every bite! Finally, you end with dessert which was a little lemon square with a fresh strawberry. The perfect end to a perfect brunch! For 3 amazing courses, you cannot beat the price for the luxurious experience. I can't wait to visit again for brunch or try the high tea.

Cookies and Cocoa - the full spread

We visited The Inn on Negley for Cookies and Cocoa around Valentine's Day and had a great time. The dining room is so cute and cozy -- it really takes you back in time. I don't know what I was picturing a bed and breakfast to be like, but this is definitely it. All of the staff was helpful and kind. We even got to pet a doodle dog, which is obviously a plus! Now for the food -- the cookies themselves were excellent. The reservation gets you three cookies, a dish of fresh whipped cream, fresh marshmallows, and a pot of cocoa poured over a chocolate lattice in your mug. Everything tasted amazing. I'd never had fresh marshmallows before, but it will be hard to go back to store bought! Overall 100% recommend. Can't wait to try high tea here as well.

We had mixed messages ... Kentucky Derby/Ascot hats yes or no. We went with Yes (Amazon: Kentucky derby hat). Mimosas on the back patio that was thankfully under cover from the sun. We went inside for tea education. Tables of 6 were comfortable. We started with our tea. The tea drinkers were impressed with the loose tea and strainers. We were confused with the honey straws until we saw the embroidery scissors. The pea pesto on toast was my favorite. The cucumbers were sliced very thin and flavorful. The chicken salad was just right. The orange and mango/ginger scones were delightful with/out preserves and clotted cream. The bottom tier had the cheesecake with apricots, brownies. & raspberry pavlova. Beautiful architecture. Host and wait staff very attentive. L'Occtaine Verbena soap (my favorite) was in the bathroom. Already discussed planning an event in the future here. Reservations ASAP.

The ambiance was very peaceful and conducive to conversation. Beautifully decorated rooms, but the flatware, dishes, and tea pots were lacking quality. Food, while presented very well, missed on flavor and complexity. The server was very sweet and helpful. She changed out my flasa immediately when I showed her it was dirty. My plate had old egg on it too. I was showing a friend what a High Tea was because I love them and find one whenever I travel. This facility should stick to being an Inn as it was a poor tea experience.

Big fan of the savory offerings and Vanilla Crème tea.

Yep. Best hot cocoa in the Burgh. My husband and I agree it was the best hot cocoa we've ever had. We went for high tea with our boys and they ordered that but we tried it. The teas were great and they accommodated my Vegan husband fully. The place was fancy but not pretentious. It was expensive so it was a nice treat. Not something we could do often but it was a lovely event.

I've been hesitant to get on planes due to COVID so we've been looking into bed and breakfasts within driving distance...this place came up on the list and I am so glad it did. It's easy to miss while going down the street but it is absolutely charming: our room was like being in a history book. The bed and sheets were quite luxurious...you will get a great night's sleep. If you're on the top floor, there are a lot of stairs...not a big deal but I was huffing and puffing while pregnant. If you love tea, then check this place out. They have an amazing selection (the hot apple spice is sweet and cozy even without adding honey or sugar) and their tea time is great. You don't need to stay at this establishment to enjoy their high tea but if you do, you can also do tea privately in your room which I love. There are lots of little add ons to your experience (a bit overpriced but worth it for the experience... especially if you're there with someone else) and the staff and chef really try to be accommodating (for example of you're not drinking, or if you prefer a certain kind of wine). It was a little rainy when we went so we couldn't enjoy breakfast outside but the indoor space was lovely. I do wish there was more variety (especially in non egg options) with the breakfast but that's a nit picky sort of complaint. Each guest can have a parking spot in the back...very convenient.

The Inn on Negley is absolutely amazing. Our stay was so magical, we already made plans to come back at a later time for no reason. We initially found ourselves staying here the weekend of the Taylor Swift concert. We were excited about being in Shadyside away from most of the TS traffic, and our choice turned out to be excellent. The Inn also has a small parking lot with enough dedicated spots for its guests, so you never have to worry about parking. The rooms here are absolutely stunning. They are decorated with class and care and every room has its own personality. The accessible room on the first floor, the Braeburn Suite, is spacious and stunning with its old world touches but homey modern feel. The moment we checked in, we were blown away! It was romantic and lovely. The bed was truly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in while traveling and had the most beautiful four-post frame. You truly can't go wrong with any of the rooms here. We peeked in a few others and each has its own character and panache. We didn't make it to high tea because we were tight on our schedule, but we did deeply enjoy the chef's breakfast daily for the weekend. The food was made with love, presented thoughtfully and made us giddily excited for breakfast daily. We chose to eat on the patio daily and felt like we were transported to some quiet, green oasis that surely could not have been Pittsburgh. Top to bottom, staying at the Inn on Negley is an experience worth having. It's also walking distance to several Shadyside attractions. We could not have asked for a more comfortable, inviting, and beautiful stay here. The innkeeper and all the staff members were engaging, kind, and helped with anything we needed. Our new favorite place!

High end. Historical. Elegant. My mother in law & I went here to celebrate my birthday. Everyone there was very kind and checked in on us. There are multiple rooms you can have tea in and you can even stay the night. They serve a 3 tiered plate with savory and sweet options. A few of my favorites: tea: vanilla Creme black tea Savory: egg salad on crostini Sweet: vanilla scone OR chocolate ganache macaroon The reason I'm not giving it 5/5 is because the house was extremely hot. Both my mom and I were quite hot while drinking hot tea. All in all I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a more unique way to stay in Pittsburgh.

I visited the Inn on Negley in June. We had to book 2 months in advance to get a Saturday reservation. When you're booking you can notify of allergies. There was a small upcharge for gluten free food. The waitstaff were attentive and knowledgeable of tea selections. The GF goods are baked in house. I appreciate that they were similar flavor profiles of the non-GF food. The passion fruit scone was interesting. The brownie was my favorite - think GF cosmic brownie! I'd like to go back to hopefully sit on the patio. It was too hot the day I went, but the patio looks lovely!

This two reviews rolled into one. First, we attended a very nice baby shower in the fall. The service, food, and selection were on par with what I have experienced at other high teas. You can see the fall decorations in one photo. 4/5 stars As the shower was winding down, the hostess let us know that the Inn also offers brunch from 9am-1pm every day of the week. Well, I knew what I was getting my partner for Christmas this year. We can't usually brunch, since local restaurants typically seat on Sundays and that's a workday for them, so it felt luxuriant to dress up and go out on a Monday morning. We arrived with big appetites at 9am, just as breakfast was wrapping up for the B&B's overnight guests. This meant that we essentially had the room to ourselves. Everything was beautifully decorated, with an entire Dickens Village under the side board. We started with fruit cups, mini pastries, cranberry juice, and individually steeped teas. DH chose the sweet entrée, which was chunky French toast, while I opted for the savory, some of the best-seasoned eggs and potatoes I have ever tasted. (You can add a breakfast meat for extra, but I'm glad I didn't.) So full that I couldn't even touch the toast that came with it, we asked them to box up our eggnog cheese cake desserts to go. (A seating is 2 hours long; we were ready to go after 1.5 hours.) It was really lovely to have this time together to catch up with each other, and the price was a steal for the experience. We would love to come back in warm weather to be able to sit on the back deck. 6/5 stars

This place is amazing! Spent the weekend and couldn't ask for a more beautiful place! Room was gorgeous! Bed was so comfortable and pillows were heaven! Carol was the sweetest hostess and breakfast each morning was on point! Hope to visit again when the weather is warmer. Just a quick walk from many cute shops and restaurants on Walnut St.

We went here for the holiday tea and LOVED it! They had so many different types of tea, including seasonal flavors, and we were able to try more than one. Our favorites were the White Christmas and the warm apple. The sandwiches, scones, and desserts were also delicious. We had a private room for our group of six. A great way to kick off the holiday season! We will definitely try to go back next year.

I am obsessed with the ambience of this small, cute, bed & breakfast. As soon as you walked in, you could see the charm and the character it had. I came with two friends for brunch. Initially we were seated inside, but we asked to be moved outside, and it was such a good decision. We were surrounded by the greenery that was growing around this patio and it did not feel like we were in Pittsburgh. The food was amazing. They started us off with a fruit cup, zucchini banana bread, and these small muffins. The bread and muffins came out of the kitchen still warm, were served with butter, and the combination was literally insane. We chose teas from a long menu-- I had the waiter's recommendation, which was the hot apple spice. It tasted like fall in a cup and the apple flavor was like a warm hug. For our main course, we were given one sweet option and one savory option. The savory option was a frittata and the sweet option was lemon poppyseed waffles. I had the waffles, but my friends wanted both so they accommodated them by giving them half frittata and half waffles which was just super cool of them. MY WAFFLES WERE AMAZING. Like, crunchy on the outside, airy on the inside, and had the right amount of lemon flavor. On the side, I also had eggs, ham, and a bagel for kicks. The only reason why I docked a star is because I felt they were not very transparent about the price of the food. I knew coming into it that it was one number, but I incorrectly assumed that that number included all of the food. The eggs were extra, and if I'm remembering correctly I think the bagel was also extra. If you're worried about this, just make sure you ask. Overall though, I'm super excited to hopefully come back and experience their tea time!

The Speckled Egg provided the upscale and elevated breakfast, that was a nice contrast to the rustic and local breakfast we had the next day. Our waitress was friendly and professional. After some deliberation, I went with a bowl that included eggs, chicken sausage, sweet potatoes and a nice garnish of dill. The dill surprisingly elevated the whole dish. My wife enjoyed an omelette. He was courteous, well spoken and friendly. We sat there for about 10-12 minutes. No one approached the table. We looked over to what appeared to be a bar area and we saw two servers standing there talking and showing each other their phones. My wife said, "With our luck, one of those two is our server." Sure enough, when they were finally done talking, one came over to our table....no smile and a big audible sigh. She asked what we wanted to drink, we gave our order and she returned with our beverages. After another 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When asked about a certain dish, came another big sigh, eye roll and and a rote description of said dish. The food arrived and one of the orders was wrong. Another wait to get her attention. We asked for the item to be redone as we had ordered it. And she even asked how we wanted it! You got it...another eye roll and a big sigh. At least she was well oxygenated! The dish came back with the very same results. On that issue we gave up. Then came the wait for the check. Once again the two servers were chatting, no heads turned to check on their tables. My son went over to get the check. When the check arrived, it was attitude city. She accused us of picking on her because she was only a server. It's obviously how she saw herself. We then asked for the manager who was quick to side with the server. She said that nothing seemed to satisfy us and that we had a problem. IN SHARP CONTRAST. I have been to the Speckled Egg on the South Side many times. From the Host/Hostess to the servers to the bus staff, everyone had a smile, chatted with their customers, laughed and it was always a great experience. The manager came over since he recognized me from being there many times and we chatted for a minute. We are talking Night and Day. Completely two different experiences from server to management styles. To me there is only one Speckled Egg and one complete waste of time (Downtown).

She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us".
