    Its inside the mall

Gallup is a small town with few burger options. But that doesn't mean that you can't find a good burger. I needed to head to the mall this adternoon to pick up a shirt. Not having had a chance to eat yet this morning I was feelimg famished and was inbthe mood for a good burger. Other Yelper haverated Double U with favorable praise so I decided to gice it a try. The burger was cooked on a flat iron and the bun was also served warm. Plenty of patty (1/3 lb) real beef no fillers, cooked withba seared crust and still moist in the center, topped with the usual lettuce tomatoes onions and did I mention that the bun was toasted. I think its a potato bun to be exact. Served in 5 mins with hot fries and a coke. Overall welll done for the $ 8 bucks.

Burgers, drinks galore, ice cream! Burgers and fries are oh so yummy!!!

I had a cheese enchilada, refried beans & rice. Had a side of chips & salsa. Husband had Jerry's open-faced burger with red and green chili. Both meals came with sopapillas. Everything was fabulous! Such a great way to get what felt like a true picture of Gallup, NM.

Saw a guy eating a sopapilla outside said it was good and there were several people outside waiting so we were like ok it's gonna be good. Ordered the Sopapilia covered in red sauce because it was a popular choice. Sadly, I was disappointed. I think it would have been good by itself no sauce. Just a sopapilla by itself. In sauce was too much. The red sauce did not taste homemade. If it is I'm sorry but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The kids drummettes were fried and tasty. Other than that it was just another diner. We did meet others who said they frequent but knowing true Mexican food, it's a no go for me. Service was ok. Ambiance Diner feel. We met a guy who said there was a cafe town the road that he preferred I don't remember the name but at least I know I'm not the only one who did not enjoy it. He was also from Cali so there you go. Sorry to disappoint. Good luck finding good eats. SYOY

We both enjoyed our meals, the meat was lamb and not gamey. The frybread was a real treat - new experience for myself.

We found this spot on Yelp and I'm so glad we stopped! We got the fry bread (sandwich) and it completely surprised us. I usually think lamb is too gamey, but this wasn't at all. When I brought it out, my husband thought it was beef at first because of how mild it tasted. The portions are huge. HUGE! One taco was seriously the size of a medium pizza and somehow we still finished it. If you're taking it to go like we did, eat it within 5 to 10 minutes so it doesn't get soggy. They also have free broth and honey inside which was such a nice touch and made it even better. Dipping the fry bread in the broth was a nice touch. Like a lighter consomé. Try it with the honey, too! We did with the remaining fry bread as a bit of a dessert. The best part though was the woman working there. She was so kind, answered all my questions, explained everything, and even gave me a magazine about Gallup. If you want something authentic and filling, definitely stop here.

Everything was delicious. My friend had a schwarma sandwich in pita, which she enjoyed. For dessert, the baklava was not homemade but they had 2 kinds of imported, and we tried both. They were tasty, though not crispy. The Turkish coffee was strong snd hot, not too spiced. Definitely eat here if local, and skip the chains!

Gallop New Mexico…read more Thank you for being so friendly! Right when we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by a very friendly girl behind the counter. She asked if we would like to eat in or takeout. We chose to eat in. We were told to seat ourselves and then she brought us some silverware, rolled in a paper napkin and some water. The restaurant is clean, other than the floors that could use a good mop. The majority of the restaurant are booths with a few tables and chairs centered in the middle. I ordered the lentil soup with pita, and my husband ordered the chicken Shawarma sandwich. The lentil soup came out right away with a large pita. The lentil soup was hot in temperature butt did not have much flavor. It wasn't bad it just could use a bit more spice. I also prefer my lentil soup to have a bit more texture. The lentils seem to be more of a purée. The pita was extremely disappointing. It was more like a soft hardtack. Very dry. Very thin. No flavor. My husbands sandwich was fine. The chicken had good flavor, as did the sauce. But again the complaint is the pita. Too dry and flavorless. The french fries were slightly undercooked but had good flavor. Aria was our waitress. Very sweet and kind. She made our experience here. The service is quick and efficient. The food is appropriately sized. Overall, I would give this place 10 stars for Service of all their employees. I would give six stars for the soup. I would give Six stars for the sandwich and fries. And the pita bread gets a one. I hope they can find a new recipe for the pita and the overall stars would be much higher.

We exited onto US 491 and saw there were many fast food places. And as we were about to pull into McDonald's, we saw a local burger place and since we like to support local whenever we can, we drove across the parking lot to BLAKE'S. My wife was told from a former land of enchantment resident that Blakes was the place for the best burgers. We had the New Mexico burger, which had the green chilies on a double beef patty with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. It was awesome! We also had the season fries, which were super good! We try not to eat too much fast food, so when we do, we want it to be worth it, and this combo meal at Blakes was absolutely worth it! The cashier young lady was sweet and friendly. The fries-station young man had a big smile. And the staff were all friendly. Inside seating area was clean. The restrooms were well attended and had to be opened by the cashier so they were safe.
