Dined outside for dinner here one Saturday evening and we had the best wait staff/bartenders! Everyone was very friendly and attentive. The food for our larger party came out hot and fresh and pretty quickly! I thought the chicken cheesesteak was interesting. Definitely not what I'm used to in the Philly area, but still tasty nonetheless. The chicken tenders were perfectly crispy and the waffle fries were heaven. Doubles Beachside 1612 Hwy. A1A Satellite Beach, FL 32937 2 Stars Oh, how the mighty have fallen. When they first opened back in 1983, Doubles subs were the rage of Mel-Hi. These days, you would be considered a gudgeon if you went more than twice. The rating I gave it should probably be lower based on the items to be discussed. Perhaps nostalgia played a part in an extra star. Claudia is our server today. I found her to be extremely charming and efficient. She was the highlight of the experience. I asked Claudia for one Smash Hoagie and one Cheesesteak. Before I even get into the review, I implore you to look at the pics! Just look at them!!! First up was the Smash Hoagie. The bread was fresh and tasty, which is important in a sandwich, just as important as the filling. Speaking of which, I am fairly certain there is processed meat in there somewhere. On a personal safety note, NEVER eat the rainbow slime on Roast Beef or Grey Turkey. Ever. Other than that, it was a fine example of a Hoagie. Not. Prodding the Cheesesteak with a fork first (checking for anything off-color), I determined all at least looked fine and so proceeded to chaw off a hunk. All in all, it wasn't a bad Cheesesteak, the bread was fresh, the meat not top shelf, but not from the dregs of the food service barrel either; however, the shrooms were definitely canned. Is it really all that difficult, time-consuming, and profitable eating to slice some fresh shrooms in the morning? The Big Boy says, "Take your kids as they won't complain; otherwise, Don's Hoagies is 1000 times better than this below-average fare." Doubles beachside has some of the best hot sandwiches and chicken tenders in town. My wife and I frequent monthly for years now because we do love the food. The staff however is hit or miss, some are very attentive, others seem bothered to be there. The pricing has also gone up quite a bit in unexpected areas. A side of plain fries is $6 and if you want any sauce with that, it's an extra $1.50. That's the highest if ever seen. Most places give a free small cup of bbq/ranch/ect but even for the first serving of sauce with salty fries you're out $7.50. Most steakhouses charge less for fries these days. Will keep coming but considering getting it to go to save 10 bucks on sauce when we bring a group of family and friends. read more

Back in the day when Doubles was on South Patrick drive at their last two locations, I ate there about once per week. Food was and still is great. What has greatly suffered however is the experience and ambiance. Don't get me wrong. The service also is still very good to excellent. The building design and decoration and paint looks and feels cold, industrial and unfriendly the floors look like unfinished concrete, the tables and wooden benches don't have a quality feel. It lacks character, charm and warmth. As much ch as I love the sandwiches and raquet fries and the service I just can't shake the stark industrial ambiance and feel. The outside feels a bit better but just marginally and it's just too darn hot to eat outside most of the year. Both old locations had charm and energy and a friendly flair about them. The ambiance is 2 stars but because the sandwiches are still great and service was good to great I'll still give four stars. Unfortunately I won't be coming by very often and won't choose it as a place to bring friends or employees or clients to for a bite and a drink or two. I hope an upgrade will be in the cards. read more

This place has excellent chicken fingers. The burgers and Philly cheesesteak was good. It's well priced and the service was decent. The portions were just right and not too much. I don't know why they ask how I want my burger cooked bc It all came out the same, well done. The patties tasted like it was frozen. However, it's consistent to must burger places in the area. It's different and a must try and you can decide for yourself. I save my 4 star reviews for places that have exceptional foods. 5 stars are reserved for fine dining (exceptional food, service and atmosphere). I would rate fast food chains a 1 or 2. read more

Finally stopped in to check this place out. So, after getting our waters, it took about 5+ minutes for the waitress to come back... just to take our drink order. Once she brought back the actual drinks, she asked about the food. We ordered, and the waitress never asked if any of us wanted fries with sandwiches, so 4 sandwiches came out. I nicely asked if she could send out a couple fries to go with the sandwiches. We got 2 fries about 5 minutes later. They were awesome tasting waffle fries. Half way through lunch our grand daughter started to cry (hungry), and our daughter in law was debating on breastfeeding at the table or going to the car. All of a sudden, with half our meals still there, my wife's apple cider 3/4 full, and my draft beer empty, the waitress slaps down our bill. It felt like she was trying to get us and the fussy baby out of the restaurant. She never asked if I wanted a second beer while my wife finished eating and drinking and didn't ask if we wanted a desert. I'm new to this Grandpa and baby stuff, but it felt very uninviting to be rushed out as soon as the baby cried. The only thing that saved this from a one-star was the decent prices and WONDERFUL waffle fries. Odd experience for a Saturday lunch at a "family oriented" cafe. We came at lunchtime and were seated fast, the servers were very pleasant. The memorization inside of the restaurant is nicely done and was a good time outside of the heat. The drinks and food came out quickly. The wraps and fries were delicious and the Philly cheese steak sandwich and butter garlic parm wings were also amazing. All the food was at perfect temperature. We also had the coconut chocolate truffle cheesecake and it was so good. This place is a great spot. Would definitely recommend. Yum. Yum. Yum. Stopped here for lunch on a Monday. First off, we were allowed to bring our dogs with us to sit on the patio. Fabulous! Second, their menu is chock full of delicious items. Bonus!! Decided to go with the grilled fish sandwich once I found out it was Mahi Mahi. It was one of the best fish sandwiches I have ever had. Fresh fish, fresh tomorrows & lettuce. Fresh bun. Truly... perfect. We ordered a side of fries. They were waffle fries and they were great. Husband got the Buffalo chicken wrap. It was big and spicy and delicious! We chose this place on a whim while passing through the area. It was absolutely the right decision. The inside is still closed for seating, so we sat on the patio. Unfortunately, only certain tables have umbrellas for shading and those were full so we sat in the sun. We have a large family so ordered a lot and everyone got full. Adult had the Philly cheesesteak and chicken philly. The former was delicious. The latter needed more flavor; the chicken was in chunks and wasn't flavorful enough. It would've been better if the chicken was shaved like the steak. Children had: 10 piece wings (with teriyaki sauce), cheeseburger, hotdog with chili and onions. There were no complaints. We ordered cheese fries for the table. We needed more even though the hotdog also came with fries. The cheese sauce came in the side, which was good given that not everyone would want it. Overall, I'd give this place a 4.5. Another nice feature is that there was a splash pad area on the patio. We didn't use it but other children seemed to enjoy it. read more

We went to doubles on a Saturday at lunchtime and it was packed! Doubles is the perfect lunch beachside food and delivers exactly what you want it to! For lunch, I had the grilled cheese and chicken tenders. Honestly, the grilled cheese looked kinda weird. The bread was squished and it looked like they cut off the crust. But, it was really tasty. It didn't taste like your standard grilled cheese, or at least, the cheese wasn't my standard American or cheddar. Even though it was small, it was filling. It was a good deal and delivered a delicious grilled cheese. The chicken tenders reminded me of what I ate growing up. There was something very nostalgic about their taste, so I found them to be delicious. There was also the perfect ratio between the breading and chicken, so would also recommend! Super cute decor/ vibe, friendly staff, an all around enjoyable experience. You have to be quick to snag a table, but worth it was a tasty meal at a good price. read more

Only outdoor seating currently, as dining room is closed; which is good since none of the employees were wearing masks or gloves or enforcing any kind of social distancing or limiting capacity inside the fence. Been years since I'd eaten at doubles and was working in the area and thought I'd try the new location. Remembering how good they used to be, I was excited to order a large sub. But then I got the sub... thinking it was a mistake because of the small size, I put it back on the counter and asked the lady "Pardon me, I just want to make sure: I did order the whole sub, right?" She said "yes", looked at the sub, and said "did you want the small?". I said "no", and a long awkward silence ensued. Finally I said "so you think I could get the right one, if I give you this back?". She said "that's the right one." Confused, I asked "so the selection are 6" or 8"?" She said a "a whole is 9", sorry". So If feel like they know people expect more and let them go ahead and fall in the trap unawares. Why else hide the actual size just saying small or large? Am I alone on assuming most subs these days are 6" or 12"? I feel like Im not, but could be wrong. The sub itself was mediocre, at best. the ham was turning slimy and the roast beef was overdone, mostly skin and strangely stringy. You can get a much better sub for a better price at Publix... even without getting the boards head brand meats they have. I feel like doubles is surviving on their nostalgia and reputation at this point, but that will only keep your boat afloat so long. Not even really sure why I'm leaving two stars instead of one. I guess because the gentleman server who actually refilled our drinks while we waited for our food was friendly. Won't be back as Publix is close, cheaper, and better. read more
