**INITIAL REVIEW** When it comes to the restaurants within Downtown Melbourne/Melbourne Main Street, I often stress that the ones on the edge of the river and/or marina are some of the best ones if you want a meal with a view. The Mansion and Chart House come to mind. The one my family wanted to go to was Ichabod's Bar & Grille. Unfortunately, its popularity exceeded its capacity and the waittime was over an hour. Ergo, we went to their sister location on Melbourne Beach, the one right across from Paradise Beach. Maybe, I was expecting a bit more as the Melbourne Beach location is the newer location meaning it had the OG to learn from, but it did not live up to that standard, at least the one I had in my head. Though an address is provided, this Ichabod's Bar & Grille - which I will shorthand simply to Ichabod's for the remainder of this review - is located as a stand-alone business right across the entrance to Paradise Beach. Ichabod's surely has that look of being a dockside restaurant despite being "landlocked," but good luck parking nearby. The parking situation has always been bad around the area. Inside, the seating is limited in which the majority of seating seems to be at the two bars. I guess Ichabod's is catering to a certain demographic pertaining to who dines inside. Outside, there are more tables for families and groups. That is where my family and I sat for our meal. Our waitress Jordanann, God bless her soul, was the only waitress working. She was running around like a chicken with their head cut off as she served everyone both inside and outside the restaurant. Despite her situation, she remained focused and kind. I definitely gave her a big tip for how hard she worked. As for the food, it was... well... okay. I always get fried fist fillets whenevere I come to a new seafood restaurant, along with crab cakes. There was shell in the crab cake, which I find to be a bit of a norm with a little piece, but there were some thoroughly recognizable pieces in my mouth when biting right in. And the fish, well... it was... okay. Not the best fish I ever had, but not bad where I would not finish it or at least take it home. Other food my family ordered includes the Mahi Sandwich, Our Burger, Shrimp Wrap, Caprese Burger, Jerk Mahi Plate, and the Jerk Shrimp Plate. Overall, the initial visit was very lacking. Though I do not fault the waitress herself, I do fault the restaurant for only having one waitress for this shift. I assume they are having a troublesome time keeping staff. I will definitely come back and give them a second chance. Can't just say Ichabod's is what they are over one visit, but for this initial visit, this is the kind of rating I would give them. If they improve over an average, i will reconsider changing the rating and updating the review. read more

There late afternoon today. My first time. My sister-in-law coming here for years. We had the PERFECT BURGERS today. Matt does phenomenal work putting these combinations perfectly. Kathy had the "Our Burger" with cheddar cheese and bacon, medium rare and potato chips. Dottie had the "Our Burger" with sautéed onions, no bun and put on a side salad with bleu cheese dressing. I had the "BBQ Burger" with a great tasting bbq sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon and a side of great creamy cole slaw and potato chips. ALL our burgers were soo good. We thoroughly enjoyed them!!! Spoke to MATT who cooks these burgers and shared with him how happy we were with them. The BEST!! Whenever we visit family again here will keep Ichabod's open for one dinner. Dottie's salad was also great as was the creamiest cole slaw side I ordered. The potato chips that comes with the entree is also a must. Thanks again to our server, sorry I forgot your name. Long flight, late arrival, only thing open near my hotel on a Sunday night was Ichabod's. Stopped in on my way from the airport, not expecting too much. What a fortuitous stop! The bartender was fun, the clientele were interesting, to say the least (some had obviously had a few beverages while watching football games, but in a fun way, not an aggressive way). To my surprise - I had probably the best fish tacos (their Mahi fish tacos) of my life. That's a bold statement from a guy who's had fish tacos in Hawaii and Hong Kong and Puerto Vallarta - but I have to give credit where credit is due. I wanted to stop back again, but alas I was only in town on business for a few days, so it will have to wait until next time. I hope there is a next time! Stop in and try it out. read more

Definitely a locals bar with patio service. Great place to watch a game and snack. Our bartender was friendly and very informative about the area. Plenty of seating at the bar although I'm sure at game time can be rather full. read more

We stopped in for a quick bite to eat. We sat outside on the deck, which was really nice with the beach breeze. However, people do smoke at the bar & tables there. The bartenders were our wait staff and were very friendly. They took our order, but the food took about 30-40 minutes to arrive. Ok, so I've waited 2 years to come here because it looks great from the outside. I should of waited another 2 years to come in. First of your not a regular you will wait 5-10 minutes for a beer. Second the food is your typical frozen bar food, not that it's bad it's just your average cut the bag open frozen and dump in oil ( I expected more). As we are eating, we noticed the cook walk out with 2 -10lb tubes of ground meat. He throws the meat on the bar and starts prepping burgers at the bar lmao. Let me repeat this HES PREPPING BURGERS at the BAR WTF. 40 years in the business and this is a first. Prepping food at the bar. I tried this place for the first time the other day and ended up being very pleasantly surprised. What stood out to be the most was the service. Our server was very attentive and checked on our table many times. The food was also good, and the portions are decent. Definitely more of a bar vibe, we were the only ones there eating. I can't even begin to explain how much I love this bar. The service is amazing. Hunter is the best server and bartender. The drinks are OUTSTANDING. Liquor, wine, beer, you name it. The food... OUT OF THIS WORLD. get the mahi platter or the chicken caprese sandwich. Both blew my breath away. And the price????? Unreal. I rarely give 10/10s but this place hits all the marks. Come visit Hunter and have yourself a night, you WONT regret it. Also don't even get me started on the vibes. Almost a dive bar vibe with Michelin star quality everything. If your going to have drinks It's a great little tiki bar on the outside. Don't ask for anything too fancy the bartenders don't know how to make it. The food is hit or miss. There is one guy in the kitchen who makes my burgers perfectly every time so now I only order when he's there. They don't have any french fries or any appetizers that are fried and that's disappointing. My biggest pet peeve is they have a jukebox that can be controlled by patrons if they download an app. I paid for songs and someone else skip them and then someone else cancelled that person songs and that is just going to start a great big fight one day. read more

Typical bar food. Most of the dishes are good, but feel like they are assembled from Sodexo food service ingredients. The two notable exceptions we found in our table's orders were the burgers (excellent) and the seared ahi appetizer (also really good). And their beer selection fit our tastes better than most. read more

We visited a couple times of times over the last few days -- had both drinks and dinner. There's a nice outdoor patio with table seating and a bar, but be warned that smoking is allowed and most people seem to take advantage of that fact. If you're a non-smoker like I am it can be annoying, but not a total deal breaker. At least people are smoking outdoors. My dinner was fantastic. Also I have to say, the drink prices are so much lower than they are at home in Tampa, I can't even imagine how cheap the well liquor must be if top shelf is nearly half the price it is at home. Everyone was friendly and service was great on all visits. Will definitely be back in the future. read more

Love Ich's. Moved over to the center of the state about 12 years ago, but every time we come back home to visit friends we make sure to drop by. We've enjoyed 'our' local bar for more than 30 years - back to when Dave used to sit at a table on the wall going over his 'numbers'. And who can forget Sue? Best burgers. Great bartenders. Lovely friends and neighbors sitting around having a cold beverage. Perfect beach vibe. Nothing fake here - Ichabod's beachside has always been the real deal. Reminiscing about those informal hurricane parties when the side door was left cracked even though the front door was locked and A1A was deserted made us smile. 'Mandatory evacuations' meant we had the roads to ourselves and we could always count on seeing old-timers at Ich's hanging out together waiting for The Big One that never showed up. Place looks today exactly how it was then, and how it should be. Including the seagull deposits on the picnic tables outside. Perfect. Interesting to read reviews on Yelp from all the Yankees and the snowbirds and the fruitcakes who bitch and moan about how bad this place is. Hope they keep trashing Ich's so we can count on finding an empty barstool when we drop in. The greatest beachside joint south of Lamar's old IR and Jonathan's. Please don't change a thing. Especially keep ignoring those dam Yankees and snowbirds when they prance in wearing their RonJon crap so they'll get pissed and leave, swearing "never again". Love Ich's. read more

My boyfriend and I came here on Monday night for dinner. When we walked in there was no host or anyone to greet us so we grabbed a table outside. We waited about 10 minutes then went back inside to ask a server if someone could come take our order. We went back outside and waited another five minutes before deciding to leave. I'm usually an outside patio guy but it was a little cool tonight so we went inside. We had the steak appetizer with blue cheese. The steak was really good. A bit too much cheese as it became overpowering with the multitude of sauces under the steak. A few edits to the dish wouldn't hurt. I also had shrimp tacos. Lots of food here as the portion is large. Really good. The bartender was a bit preoccupied and not overly engaging. We had to ask for silverware and additional drinks. I have been here a few times over the years, nothing impressive. Definitely an overreaching atmosphere for what ends up being a tourist trap and mediocre food. however, had nothing against them... until I was towed for attending a funeral of one of their neighboring bars. $350 I had to pay after a day of mourning. I went inside to let them know I had permission from the neighboring bar, someone they should have a community camaraderie with, and they literally shrugged their shoulders. I highly recommend monkey bar, they have great tacos and a nice local atmosphere. Same goes for Buckys - great people, great atmosphere, fresh, local seafood! This is the official 200th Big Boy review, and let me tell you, this brings me almost full circle in my life. I was in this bar 34 years ago when the Florida Legislature raised the drinking age to 19 and I was grandfathered in by one day. Three years later in 1987 I would be back in the bar behind Ichabod's, called The Wine Gallery, working as a bouncer, and eventually as a manager. Many a night I sat outside on my barstool checking IDs and listening to the cacophony emanating from Ichabod's. Back then, Ichabod's was filled with the local beach barnacles who rarely had money but always needed a drink. At that time, it was a local watering hole that could get outright dangerous on a Friday or Saturday night. However, with gentrification and high growth, most of the surf rat troublemakers were pushed north into Satellite Beach and even mainland. Now, upon entering, you immediately notice in the intervening three decades that nothing has really changed all that much. The decor is the same for the most part, but instead of having a Galaga machine, now there is a high tech golf game that sits idle because everyone in this bar is too old and lacks the teenage dexterity required to play. Anyway, I have been here four times to date because I enjoy coming. If you want a strong drink, Jody the bartender rocks. She was attentive to all the customers and didn't miss a beat. She was there three of the four times I went. On my fourth visit, there was a scruffy guy in a ball cap who, at first, I thought was a homeless person going behind the bar where he shouldn't, but he turned out to be one of the bartenders! He looked like Joaquin Phoenix during his faux-rap days, and was mildly inattentive and apparently not interested in his job. My drink struggled to reach one ounce and my order had to be repeated five times. As for the order? Well, I consumed the same thing all 4 trips. The peanut butter cheeseburger is a thing of beauty: it is a handmade burger they will actually allow you to order medium rare that is covered in bacon, cheddar cheese, and peanut butter. Let me tell you - if I could only eat one meal for the rest of my life this would be it. The delicate interplay between the cheese, peanut butter and bacon is truly symphonic. The Big Boy highly recommends Ichabod's burgers anytime, and the drinks most of the time, especially depending who is on shift. Give Ichabod's a try - but definitely don't lose your head over it! read more

I had the Mahi Mahi blackened. There seasoning was good and it was cooked well but the portion size was small for a 14 dollar dinner. Coleslaw was good. The mixed vegetables were not. We were sent here by someone from a nearby restaurant that didn't have wings available at the moment, they said this place had good good wings... This place has always been a really great beachside/party bar.. But on a recent stop in, I was like, WOW! It looks like they've done some serious remodelling and the new decor defintely takes it up a notch. They also updated their menu and there are lots of new goodies to choose from. We had the steak appetizer and it was friggin' amazing, especially for a bar!! Another thing I noticed is that it's finally no smoking inside!!!! It's about time on that one! There really aren't that many amazing beachside bars in the Melbourne Beach area unless you make the trek to Vero or Cocoa beach, so by all means.. go have a cocktail and some grub at this place. Great place to get drinks and chill out. Has a nice patio for the smokers. Almost all of the bartenders here make proper mix drinks (except for the dumb blonde, of course). Steffen is one of the greatest bartenders in all of Brevard! He does his job respectfully and efficiently. Most of the people who come here range between the 20's and 40's. It's located in a great spot between the popular Paradise beach, Walgreens and the Monkey bar. The interior is nice with many tv's to watch sports. read more
