Doughnuts are fantastic and the staff in the kitchen is wonderful. However, the young lady at the cash register is apparently unable to speak. We ask questions and she legit does not respond. She ignores every customer who comes to her desk- we've watched multiple people walk away baffled by the lack of interaction. When you thank her, she remains silent- just returning your smile with a glare. She obviously hates this job and hates you, the customer. Again, the doughnuts are great! I am surprised at all the good reviews and based going here on those reviews.  I am a donut lover and seek them out (even in different countries when traveling) so I do have a wide range of experience of different types. On this visit we ordered Boston Creams and marionberry lemon donuts.  Although I thought  the creme and the icings were good, the dough part tasted like I was eating a stale donut from the grocery store.  This leaves the donut heavy and tasteless. The donuts looked good and were on the larger side, but with the lack of taste and high prices (I can overlook a high price if it matches the quality), I can't recommend this store. read more

I give 4 stars only because I think the price is a little high for the area it's located in. Prices weren't clearly displayed & being tucked into a strip mall, the location was a bit tough to locate with no big sign that can be seen unless you pull into the strip mall. Otherwise, I loved the unique "bread" type donut they served. Fluffy & airy with just a touch of density. Very different from the sweet, flat, dense dough most donuts are made from. The "breadiness" keeps the donut from tasting soggy or oily & just the tops of the donuts are hand-dipped in the frosting to keep the donuts from being drenched in overly sweet glaze that turns soggy. I read about the apple fritters out loud - the fresh apple and cider fritters were all he could talk about for a week. So today we picked some up. I sent him in alone - big mistake. Sometimes I eat a quarter of a donut then come back for the other parts, and they always taste just as good! This place was awesome! I went on a Saturday night and they had a little line- restricting only one person/family at a time due to COVID guidelines. They inside was cute and clean. All the workers looked super busy, but I was pleasantly surprised that they were still well stocked with a bunch of different donuts I've never even seen/heard of! Okay... I bought 3 items. A croissant, Marion berry + lemon donut, and this creme brûlée donut. I didn't make it out the spot before biting it as you can see. The donut was torched right after purchase and I love how it's not sweet. I'm not a huge donut fan, usually because it's just TOO sweet, I just try them when out of town and this was excellent and did not disappoint. I would recommended trying them! read more

Run don't walk to the CORVALLIS Donut Hook bakery. It is without a doubt the best bakery in town, and the choices are less than $5.00, unlike another bakery in town which will go unnamed. These donuts and pastries are superior in every way, fresh, beautiful to look at, and the filled donuts are almost over-filled but who's complaining? I had a problem finding the bakery because they are not allowed to place a sign outside of the building!! The service person told me it's because the business is too small, however how can a business grow without publicizing?? It is located next to the Cricket store across from Goodwill on 9th. I'm a little picky with my doughnuts but not these ones, I've loved every doughnut I've gotten here and I don't think I'll be going anywhere else for doughnuts any time soon. Stopped in this morning and picked up a dozen donuts (Marionberry, French toast, Maple bacon, Apple fritters, Creme Brulee, toasted coconut, Mom's hot cocoa, and double chocolate ganache). The family destroyed these donuts! I was a little leary with the theme donuts, but I should not have been. They were all fantastic. Amazing donuts with the nicest staff! We tried a few donuts and they were so good we ended up coming back to get two more boxes to gift! The employee who helped us also threw in some donuts for free. This place knows how to make customers happy and how to get them to come back! We got creme brûlée, passionfruit, marionberry, Boston cream, cronut, apple fritter, chocolate, and a few more I don't remember. They were all so good and the same creamy addicting custard cream is used in the creme brûlée, Boston cream and Cronut. I thought I'd get tired of that custardy goodness but I didn't and as soon as we finished all our donuts we wanted more. Great donut shop! Large fluffy (high rise) donut variety with some great icing flavors/toppings. The passion fruit was delicious and so was the churro crocronut (very flaky!). Marionberry and chocolate were also really good. If you're a fan of custard, then get their signature creme brulee donut. There were several more we wanted to try, but they are bigger donuts than usual so are great to get several and then split them with others so everyone can try their well thought out flavors! Staff was super friendly and they are quick to get the order ready! All donuts were on display and labelled so it was easy to point to which ones you want. These are some of the best doughnuts in town. We tried 4 different kinds: maple, hibiscus, poppyseed passion fruit and creme brûlée. Each one was absolutely packed with flavor! The hibiscus one even had a hibiscus flower garnish which was delicious. The creme brûlée donut was topped with sugar and then torched to make the crispy top just like the original dessert. I don't leave a lot of reviews...The Dough Hook warranted a 5-star review. On our way out of town, headed to PDX we stopped and picked up one of the vanilla cruffins and 6 doughnuts for the road. We stopped for coffee a few blocks away and had to eat the cruffin in the parking lot, it was an absolutely amazing, delicious flaky mess. possibly the best breakfast pastry I've ever had. The first time I came to this shop, the owner was very friendly and helpful. He recommended the marionberry with lemon drizzle and Creme brûlée. I also ordered the passion fruit, and all of the donuts were delicious - probably the best flavored donuts I have had. He was also kind enough to throw in a free donut as well! It was so good that I returned that same day and ordered a handful more donuts, to which he graciously added a few more on the house. Make sure you ask multiple times if it's really vegan. Unfortunately my two experiences weren't the best. A couple weeks ago I went here for the first time. I wanted to get two vegan donuts to try out, they have both vegan and non vegan and that day unfortunately they sold out of vegan donuts already. The nice young man working the register tried finding some but after a bit of asking he said they were sold out. He told me the best way to insure I get vegan donuts was to call ahead and place a hold. My husband and I are pretty picky so the worker told me all the vegan options so we knew ahead of time. Fast forward to yesterday I call ahead to place an order for two vegan donuts for today. I made sure multiple times to let them know we are vegan. I was charged over the phone for a vegan apple fritter and a vegan toasted coconut. I said I would be by today at noon to pick them up. I drive over today (about 15 minutes away, not close but not far) at noon to pick them up. I go inside and give my name. The young lady at the cashier sounds like the lady over the phone yesterday. She tells me they unfortunately did not make the vegan toasted coconut but they did make the vegan apple fritter. I was confused and asked what was the point of calling ahead and paying for it over the phone if it wasn't going to be made? She gave a vague response of they usually make it but they didn't today or yesterday. I was frustrated but I was happy they at least had the vegan apple fritter. My husband who wanted the coconut one was disappointment but decided on the vegan hibiscus donut as a replacement. So she boxed up one apple fritter and one hibiscus together. I ask them again are they sure these are both vegan? She asks the baker and he eventually says yes, but they seem unsure so I ask again, are they sure they are both vegan, so they talk to each other and eventually finally say they are not sure if the apple fritter is vegan. I was shocked. They said multiple times it was. I asked for a refund and the lady quietly asked if I could just get another vegan donut instead. I ask which ones are for sure vegan? She says the hibiscus and lemon raspberry. So we end up reluctantly agreeing to two of the hibiscus donuts instead of the two we paid for over the phone yesterday. I'll be honest and say they ended up being pretty decent. That's what I'm giving 2 stars to. The customer service wasn't good so that's why we're not going back and we won't recommend this place. You don't do that type of thing with people's food. You have to be honest. Especially when the person is asking multiple times. Also a bit pricey. It was decent but not that good. And the location for kind of tucked away so it was a bit difficult to get into with that parking lot being chaotic. And there is no clear menu or prices. read more

If you are single in Salem and want to give yourself a decadent treat look no further, this is what you have been waiting for. From a taste perspective the donut was great, there were many unique flavors to choose from. My family was all happy about the trip to The Dough Hook donut shop. I like the ever popular maple bacon and it was epic. My family equally liked their selections. The location is a bit hard to find without a sign I assume they are working on it as there is a place for a sign. I used gps said I was there had to search around I almost left but my wife spotted it first. From a cost perspective I'm not sure how long people will pay $3.95 for a single donut after the novelty wares off. There should be a special of some type for the families who are buying many donuts, what's $3.95 x 6 if you get my drift. These are Beverly Hills prices in a North Salem strip mall, we drove from Monmouth to try them for the novelty of trying the new spot from a point of value we might come back next year to try something new, I'm not down with paying premium in basically the low level strip mall especially with the type of stores that surround it and the traffic that comes through while you are waiting in the parking lot. We were not approached or bothered in any way but it's not the best area which you can tell in about 3 minutes sitting in the parking lot, my car got bass rattled by a low rider and multiple transients roamed through eyeing things. When my wife told me the prices I just felt like it should be in a better area. It's hard starting a new unknown business, can't start in the finest location but if there is a compromise like coming to the hood for donuts people should kind of be aware of that before driving from 45 minutes away.
