I do see what the bad reviews about texture are talking about- I do a lot of gluten free baking myself and I think the issue is these have so much rice flour they are almost like mochi? When I was on my last trip to Salem I saw that I had Bigwig Donuts in my bookmarks and I was looking for a sweet treat and of course donuts always fits the bill. When I looked at the selection the donuts are donut holes in a wide variety and creative flavors. There were six different flavors (which rotate by the way over time so the flavors do change) so I got a dozen so Steve and I would be able to have one flavor a piece. They were all quite good. I'd admired this place on Instagram forever and finally found myself in Salem, so this was our first stop. It's on a cute street in the heart of downtown, just blocks from the riverfront. It's a small space with a couple of indoor tables and a few tables on the sidewalk. We were greeted warmly and given time to look over the menu and space to ask questions. We went with a dozen, 2 of each flavor, and a couple of drinks. We all really enjoyed the cinnamon sugar, which was served piping hot. My husband loved the maple. My favorites were the lemon poppyseed and the chocolate, which tasted a lot like a brownie. My daughter's favorite was the s'mores, you could definitely taste the marshmallow in the glaze. It's astonishing that these are vegan and gluten free! They were better than I expected, better than a "regular" one. My daughter got their strawberry matcha and declared it better than any she had in Japan. It had strawberry puree on the bottom and was dusted with strawberry on top. We also tried their seasonal latte, which was good! This will be a must visit anytime we are remotely near Salem and we would love to see them open a spot in Portland! 4 stars: I've been meaning to try it out since they opened and had the chance last month. Super neat little space. Pretty minimalistic with it's own unique character. I tried a dozen of various flavors without minty ones (yuck!). Pretty good if a bit slick/greasy feel to them. They didn't have decaf but if they an interesting house made coffee syrup (like vanilla) I give it a try. I should've had some food first but fortunately the jitters weren't too strong to distract me during a visit with a friend. -1 star = 3 because a business that claims to be vegan needs to change it to vegetarian if they serve dairy on the menu. I totally get the reason behind; other places do it for that, as well, but get the label right ya'll. C'mon! I shape my trips around "vegan" spots and this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Friendly people, tasty donuts, and they deliver! So if you get a craving at work they are great treats to share with the whole office. They are vegan and gluten free, but not sugar free which is the real baddie. They do NOT keep so they have to be eaten the same day. Great treat for special occasions. We happened to walk by Big Wig and on a whim decided to pop in. Neither of us are GF or vegan but we really enjoyed these donut holes!! We tried one of each flavor that was available: chocolate sprinkle, chocolate matcha, lemon poppyseed, cinnamon sugar, maple, and apple cider chai. I also tried an 8oz mocha with coconut milk. The mocha was very good! Perfect size and mellow flavor. The coconut milk was a good choice. The donut holes themselves were very good. Our favorites were the chocolate sprinkle and cinnamon sugar but I'm so glad we tried them all. The staff were very friendly as well. Overall definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

Unfortunately, at $12 a dozen for "just the hole," it's ridiculously expensive (unless you need gluten free) and a one time thing for me. Yep, this place serves delicious donut holes. You won't find full-size donuts, but delicious bites of heaven instead. They are gluten free and vegan This is my second time here. I have tried all the flavors. This last visit I had the lemon poppyseed and chocolate peppermint. The lemon poppyseed is my absolute fave. My only regret is not getting more. Limited hours so make sure to check when they are open. Open Wednesday thru Saturday. You can call in ahead your order for easy pickup. They also have coffee here and other hot drinks. I had a butterscotch latte I think. I was happy they have alternative milks. My latte was ok, the temp was too cold. Other than that I always have a great experience here. Rather than post another photo of the donut holes (but I am posting a photo anyway), I wanted to also say how the gentleman behind the counter, whom I believe to be the owner, deserves an award as Friendliest Nicest Person in Salem. Honestly, he is so genuinely warm, welcoming and friendly, PLUS you're getting delicious fresh unique donut holes AND great coffee, it's a total win-win. I ALWAYS feel cheerful leaving there with a smile every time I visit this establishment. If you're ordering coffee, he always asks if it tastes OK and is clearly interested in making sure you like what you ordered. There's not enough good things I can say about this place. I cannot have gluten or dairy so you can imagine the last time I was able to eat a donut was a long time ago. We went here on a whim because I was craving them, and I'm so glad we did! This was our first time trying their donut holes. I've been trying an elimination diet because I have a family history of celiac and have been having symptoms, so, since their donut holes are gluten-free, I figured I'd give it a go. I've had gluten free pastries before and when it comes to this sort of thing you usually need to temper your expectations. We ended up getting two dozen. A mixture of chocolate, maple, cinnamon, and lavender earl grey. The lavender earl grey was more because we were really curious and thought it was an unusual flavor combination, and we're always up to trying something we haven't had before. WOW! About hedging expectations? Not even necessary with their donut holes. They are fantastic! Every flavor was amazing, and we were wowed by the lavender earl grey. My favorite is the chocolate. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and oh so chocolatey! My partner's favorite was the lavender earl grey followed by the maple. Everything there is AMAZING. I am so stoked that I can get my donut fix and not have to worry about wrecking my digestive system. 5 stars seems inadequate. First of all there NO donuts at Big Wig Donuts. Zero, zilch, none. Silly me for expecting donuts at a store that has donuts in it's name. They do have tiny little balls of donut holes. They are literally half cooked and are dense and damp inside. How does gluten free equal gluey? They're also not inexpensive. 3 of these little wet balls will set you back 3.50 but you can get a dozen for 10 bucks if you've got a sawbuck to waste. I think about 6 of these holes equal 1 actual donut. They seem to be mainly a coffee shop. Right after I inquired about donuts I was asked if they "could get a drink started" for me. Bait and switch! There are literally 10 other places to get coffee and tea in a 2 block radius of this place, so why bother coming here. read more

This place is a bit overpriced for what you get. The donuts are more like cake balls. They're pretty oily, and a mixture between cake, pancakes and muffins. The chocolate ones taste just like chocolate cake. They're not bad, but I don't think I'll be back. I'm not really a cake ball fan and for the price. Eh. If you are a fan of cake balls in donut flavors though, you might like it here. There's also no public restroom, parking is paid except on eves and sundays then it's free, and the ordering process is strangely done at a table away from the people making the donut holes, and you can never get close to them to watch what they're doing because it's all roped off. Stopped here during our road trip. I was recently diagnosed with a wheat, dairy, and egg allergy. It has been rough and honestly most stuff I've had just isn't the same. But let me tell you.......this place is AMAZING. Their donuts are better then regular donuts. Flavorful and moist, sweet and soft. I had all my other family try and they just couldn't believe they were gluten free and vegan. The staff was great too!!! So helpful and friendly. My first time trying these donuts, and they did not disappoint! My personal favorite was the maple but the chocolate and lemon poppyseed were a close second. These were DELICIOUS, and i will be coming back very soon for more. My girlfriend had dropped her wallet outside of the business while walking in, and it was turned into the Owner by a Good Samaritan. Mark went out of his way to find me on social media and contact me letting me know they had it, and even came back to the business long after they had closed to get her the wallet back without batting an eye. My review is for big wig donuts that comes to tea bar on division. First off-great mindset to combine small donut bite sized balls with bubble tea! I kept asking the girl at the tea bar counter when would the donut people return. "We donut know" she replied. Jk. She said it varies. IS THIS SOME KINDA MYSTERY GAME WE'RE GONNA PLAY? As a donut fanatic and avid traveler, I'll admit that these are some of my all-time favorite donuts ever! Why? Well, they are the perfect bite-size, come in a variety of flavors (chocolate with a matcha glaze being my favorite!), and have a great crispy outside texture but slightly gooey-ish middle that makes your heart sing. One thing I really appreciate about these donuts, is that they never hurt my belly like most traditional donuts tend to do. I normally drive to Salem from Portland to visit my parents, but I'd make the drive for these donuts, too! They're that good! Also, the shop is adorable! My family and I have been going to Big Wig Donuts since they were nothing more than a pop up. The idea of fresh gluten free (and vegan... though not as important to us) donut holes was just to much to pass up. The donuts are always fresh, and usually still warm when we pick up. The flavors are phenomenal, and usually rotate based on seasons. I love how creative they get. You can also get things like coffee or tea from them but we've only been able to try those here and there (due to our own issues)... but they've always been good when we have. The servers always have a smile on their face, and great you like you are their best friend. This never changes, no matter how busy they are. I do wish the new store front had some sitting area, but it's not really a big loss. Quick visit, quick review. Love love love love! A coworker brought a box of donut holes in the other day and the office went nuts! Gone within minutes. I decided I wanted to get some of my own the following week A quick walk down the block, I stopped in during one of my breaks. The building / space is clean and cute! They have the donut making area open so you can see the donut holes being made. I got 6 holes for $5, great price! I got 3 cinnamon sugar and 3 chocolate. SO GOOD. Still slightly warm, they have a slight crunch in the outside and very soft on the inside. They aren't straight cake donuts but closer to cake than traditional fried. They are sweet but not overdone. Solid doughnut joint! Quality was there and square, customer service was a bit abrasive but none the less good and friendly! Some flavors got a bit more drenched in oil then others and for 12.59 after tip I would've excepted the size to be bigger, felt robbed and rubbed wrong but at least the dough left a great taste and good experience! So glad they opened up in there own shop. Same donuts (with exception of old seasonals being full time) as they were when they were a pop up at archive. All are great, me and my group seems to like the chocolate the best, to me it tastes like brownie batter, but cooked, not sure that actually makes sense.. Coffee is all really good, and prices are fair for what it is, but keep in mind this is small batch specialty stuff, so it is priced higher than daynight or Roth's, but the donuts are not really comparable either, these are more gourmet donut holes, not donut donuts. Pro tip: if you see that any flavor is just coming off the griddle? Or donut maker? Or whatever they call it grab that, as in my opinion any of them are twice as good if they are still hot, but honestly 9 times out of 10 it seems anything I get is still warm read more

Okay, honestly ignore anything less than a 5 star review. These donuts are GREAT. They are vegan, gluten free and made with quality ingredients so of course they are a little pricey. If you're complaining about the devices they are made with, get real. It is INCREDIBLE they can produce such an incredibly tasting product with such a simple device. Also, they are not fried. Who cares what contraption they are made with. It's better than prepackaged donuts from local coffee chains, or ones prepared in a filthy and outdated donut shop. All in all, the flavors are delicious and they have several to choose from. If chocolate isn't your thing, try the raspberry or maple ones. They are unique and tasty! My friend and I just happened to be near Big Wig Donuts while being in downtown and decided to stop by on their opening day. I also had my son with me so we decided to wait in a lengthy line, which to me was a good sign, but then it was the first day so the line was more for curiosity than popularity. I got to sample some of the cold brew while in line and I must say I to pass after the first sip. The coffee was not smooth and on the bitter side. They had six flavors so we got two of each and got a even dozen. I must say $9 is a bit steep for smaller than usual doughnut holes. Out of the six flavors maple would be my go to choice and lemon poppy in second. The chocolate ones were more salty than sweet. The raspberry one was too tart. I don't know if will return, maybe when some new flavors are out, but again pretty difficult choice to do so at regular prices. read more
