Nice Irish dive - right up my alley. Pleasant staff. Heard they have a nice St. Pats celebration.

I came here just for a drink but I loved the decorations and it would be a really fun place to come with friends and play games like pool and 'stump'. The rail drinks were $6.50 and the whiskey in my drink was delicious for such an affordable drink. Service was polite and efficient, the place was pretty clean and stays open late even on weekdays and seemed to have some good deals on specific days of the week. read more

Joined during St Patty's Day, enjoyed the ambiance of it and seeing the bagpipes. Just needed more of a variety on drinks.

Doughtery's was a chill spot to hangout for one of our friends birthdays! Unfortunately, I've been sick so I stuck to water. We also didn't try any of the food. But what I can review is the chill vibes this little Irish pub gave off. Great seating area with TVs for the games, nice bar space, and a chill hangout spot with a pool table and hammerschlagen! I had never played hammerschlagen before and now I feel like my chill evenings with friends will never be the same without it. Who knew trying to hammer a nail into a block of wood would be so fun! My husband and I are now trying to find out how to get our own in our backyard! read more

They have a great menu with a variety of tasty vittles, as well as specials (Mamma had some awesome mussles - yum!), and a decent happy hour with 2 for 1's on draft beers and perhaps mixed drinks (not positive about that). There are bar stools to sit on. They have a restroom. They got some of them entertaining adult games. They happen to have a log with nails you get to drunkenly pound at. There are bartenders. They got some locals at the bar. There is a lad checking ID'S. There is alcohol. There is a fire place with no fire. There are dragons. There are unicorns. My check-in list keeps reminding me off all the new places I've tried, but have yet to review... some were good, but none has prompted me to get on here and start writing again - until Dougherty's. My sister and I walked in here during happy hour on a Monday. We were immediately greeted and told that we could sit wherever we like. We headed to the right - Dougherty's is divided into three sections: pool and seating on the left, bar in the middle, plenty of table seating on the right. We found a comfy table, sat down, and checked out the menu. I was shocked. This is a neighborhood bar? Well, the prices certainly reflected that - Dales on draft was BOGO for $4.50 (so, $2.25 each). But the menu! They have a fantastic assortment of food, including your traditional pub fare (wings, fries, onion rings), all the way to awesome choices straight from the UK... including Shepard's pie, bangers and mash, and Belfast chicken. Well, we were ending a three day bender (bday weekend drinking) and opted for none of the above. We asked the wonderful server for the beet salad, which we'd be splitting. It was brought out on two separate plates, one for each of us. Each plate was presented beautifully and came with its own side of dressing - all this for no extra charge. The salad was fresh, and the beets were incredible! We also had a few Dale's - during happy hour, they give you a poker chip to hang onto until you order the next one (which is free when you turn in the chip). In fact, Dougherty's was so good we went back for lunch today. My sister, a vegetarian, ordered the BYOB with a garden burger, and loved it. My bangers and mash was awesome - I just finished it for dinner. I'm so, so glad that Dougherty's is just a few blocks away from me. It is definitely my new favorite neighborhood bar. read more

Dougherty's is a bar with a great restaurant or a restaurant with a great bar. It depends on how you look at it, which means both ways are excellent. The interior is bright and cheery, great color scheme and a wonderful feel. I came in for their 2nd Year Anniversary party around noon. My best friend from grade school invited me to go and I do not turn down life long restaurant recommendations. I was not in the mood to drink, but he did have 3 bloodies. [$4.00 Saturday and Sunday special] We ordered the shrimp basket, potato soup, Irish stew and a salad. The shrimp basket was not to overly battered and had a great flavor ontop of a pile of fries. Nothing I would have expected from an Irish Pub for sure. The Irish stew was as if my buddy and I were back in Dublin Ireland Spring Break 2003 again. The potato soup was creamy and really really tasty. I guess I need to come back to get the real bar feel next, don't worry, I will. read more

Just left because of their staff. I stood at the end of the bar waiting for a water, when a regular shoved me to the side and said, " You can wait at the other side of the F****** bar for a water, this is my F****** spot." The bartender tried to make me apologize to him for taking his spot, which was utterly ridiculous. I immediately turned to leave while saying "F*** this place". The manager on duty ran up to us, apologizing profusely, but damage done. Screw this place. read more

I want to recommend this place, but can't right now. How do you function as a bar by having only Blue Moon and Guinness on tap on a weekend night, with servers telling you that there's no end in sight to when the taps will be sorted out? We don't go to the bar for bottles and cans, except as a last resort, and thankfully there's no need for that these days. I had come here before, and the service is okay, crowd can be cool, but they can charge a lot for draughts when they have them (more than average price per ounce served in the area). Fix these things, and you're back up to 4-5 stars. read more

Fun spot to watch football on Sunday's especially. One of the first places I went to when I moved to Denver. Decent food, very chill, def has a local neighborhood vibe to it. Good mix of people. Love the high ceilings and the clean dining room. Def more than just a dive, gives it ambience. The food is home cooking all the way. Shepherds pie yum. The pizza, coming from a Chicagoan is very good. Def recommend this place for a night out with friends, a casual drink or a first date. Def my choice for football Sunday. My husband and I got the opportunity to go out to dinner tonight, not a frequent occurence in our house. Sometimes we are like two ships passing in the night. I didn't ask where he wanted to go, I told him we had to go to Dougherty's. He sounded sort of apprehensive, but I explained that they have stuffed burgers and homemade fries. I ordered the corned beef and cabbage stuffed burger, which sounds so wrong in theory. It was oh so right though. I just wish there was more filling. The burger was plump and juicy with the usual toppings; lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. I put a little bit of ketchup and some of thier chipotle mayo on my burger and it was so tastey. My husband ordered the T-Bone steak with "champ", which is mashed potatoes with butter and chives. He loved it, I didn't have more than a bite because it was medium rare. For dessert we tried the Irish Cream Cheesecake with Baileys Whipped Cream. It was fabulous. I really like homemade graham cracker crust and that is just what I got. The cheesecake didn't have too strong of a flavor, which I liked. My husband was happy that I suggested this place and he was already looking at the menu for the next time. read more

Yelp, once again, did not let me down with this place. Reading the reviews after the mac & cheese tour informed me they have stuffed burgers. I immediately thought that I *needed* to try it. When I checked out their online menu I saw that one burger was stuffed with jalapenos and cream cheese. Excuse me?!?! That was it. I had to go. Fast forward 1 month later, and my husband was in the mood for fish and chips. As I am not a seafood fan, I racked my brain, knowing that there was an Irish Pub I wanted to try for some reason. Finally I remembered the infamous stuffed burger...and we were on our way. I fell in love with this place immediately upon walking in. Such a chill and laid back atmosphere. I felt comfortable right away, as it has a great neighborhood bar feel. The service was great, and I appreciated the honesty of the bartenders when asked a question about the food (i.e. informing my husband that the fish comes frozen and already battered, when he asked how good it was). And now the food: unbelievable. I started with an order of Jamaican Jerk Wings. I usually only eat boneless wings, but for some reason I was in a wing mood (which NEVER happens). These wings were exactly what I was wanting: perfectly cooked (well done and crispy), with an amazing sauce (great jerk flavor, spicy and a little sweet). A mimosa (only $3 on Sundas) and a Newcastle later we decided to order our entrees. I ordered the The Peter Piper Burger: Stuffed with Jalapenos and Cream Cheese, topped with Pepper Jack and served with a smoky chipotle mayonnaise. One of the best burgers I have EVER had! It had such a great grill flavor...reminded me of summer, grilling burgers in the backyard on a little charcoal grill...absolute happiness. The bun was a perfect match: toasted Ciabatta bun...not too much bread, and just soft enough to soak up the juices without falling apart. The chipotle mayo was a perfect smokey partner to the spicy and creamy filling. Their fries were also pretty fantastic: freshly cut and perfectly cooked (crispy). I kept talking about how awesome that burger was for the rest of the night...and the next day. I can't wait to go back to have it again. My husband also really liked his food. Couple that with the ambiance, and we have found a new favorite place to grab some pub food and hang out...while quizzing each other using the Trivial Pursuit cards on the bar. read more

I will NEVER visit this restaurant. I wish that I could give it zero stars! I spoke with Manager Wes today to book an event for my social club. We host College Basketball game watches across the city and our members drop a nice amount of money on alcohol. I called Doughtery's to inquire about whether or not the restaurant could accommodate our group. When Wes answered the phone I asked for a manager. "This is Wes," he kept repeating. This went on about three times before I asked him if he was the manager. "What do you want?" He asked. I then asked him if this was a joke. I really thought I had dialed the wrong number. Wes went on to be very rude telling me that he gets about 20 sales calls a day asking for a manager and he thought I was another sales call. He then went on to chastise me and tell me I should have identified myself on the phone. I promptly let him know that I would inform all members of my social club to not visit this establishment and I was appalled at how he treated a customer. Wes went on to tell me that I wasn't a customer yet and hung up the phone! If this is how they treat people who want to rent out a large space for an event, I can only imagine how they treat their customers. And I won't find out. I suggest you take your business to one of the many other reputable Irish restaurants in the city! read more

Just off the beaten path sits Dougherty's, a new addition to the booze-soaked stretch that is central Broadway. Tucked in behind Freaky's, it's close enough to the strip to include it on your Broadway Pub Crawl, but far enough off so that it feels like a neighborhood joint. Either way, I dig this place. And OH MAN is the food good!! It was a cold, windy night and I was feeling the need for soup. The bartender steered me towards the potato leek and it was perfectly creamy and delicious, served with a tasty side of grilled flatbread. I'm a sucker for good bread. I also got the fried goat cheese salad... mmmm... fried cheese. But as good as these items were, I couldn't keep my hands off my husband's plate. He opted for one of their "stuffed burgers" (they have several options to choose from, or you can Create Your Own Stuffage) and fries. Now, I'm certainly no burger pro, but this was one of the BEST DAMN BURGERS I'd ever tasted. Cooked perfectly and served on a bun that was both crunchy and chewy in all the right places, dripping with the "stuffing" (he opted for jalapenos, bacon, and pepper jack cheese), and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Friends of ours who'd been there before also raved about the cheese plate. It's a PLATE OF CHEESE. Good cheese. Does it get any better than that? Aside from the good food, the place sports a separate dining and bar area (we ate at the bar) for busier nights, plus a couple pool tables and a cool jukebox. Bonus points for super-friendly staff (both the owner and head chef came out and chatted it up with us as we enjoyed our dinner). We'll definitely be going back, if not for the phenomenal burgers, and cool vibe, then for the PLATE OF CHEESE. Because nothing beats good cheese... **EDITED 03.16.08** We came back to Dougherty's this afternoon-- the Sunday of St. Patrick's Day weekend-- for a friend's birthday celebration, and things were definitely still as awesome as they were the first time! I had the Fish n' Chips for lunch, and they may well be some of the best I've ever had. THICK chunks of perfectly cooked white fish (cod or halibut, I assume, though I'm not a fish expert), battered light and simple and served with a homemade take on tartar sauce (think similar taste, but chunky and awesome) and perfectly horseradishy cocktail sauce. I also had a bite of my friend's Four Cheese Torte-- layers of cheesy goodness atop crispy triangles of phyllo dough. OH MY GAWD was it good!! So yeah, Dougherty's is batting 1000 so far! One thing to note: even though the crowd on the bar side (our side) was mildly rowdy, the noise barely filtered into the separate dining area at all. Really nice, for those who want more of a chillout experience. Another thing to note: it's SO COOL that they have homemade mix CDs on the jukebox! Scour those playlists for some serious gems. For your everyday Irish Pub, this laid back joint has some serious shepard's pie and crazy Guiness deals. At the sake of sounding cliche, I did frequent this South Broadway establishment on the Saturday before St. Patty's (essentially one the busiest days of the year for bars) and was served very promptly, despite the overload of drunk people, pushing, and yelling. I'm a fan of Dougherty's for its casual vibe, accessibility, and Irish fare of course, however I wouldn't expect to have socks knocked off by anything other than their 'buy one get one free' Guinness deal and just how speedy their service is. It's a bar, just like any bar. Nothing fancy, nothing that makes it famous, and so on. But I will say it's it suits the everyday bar perfectly. And at the end of the day, that's all we really need. I spend a lot of time at Sputnik. I also am a smoker. And thus, I spend a lot of time on the sidewalk at Broadway and Ellsworth. It was during one of these smoking breaks that I saw possibly the most hilarious fight ever, happening in front of Dougherty's. Two very large, very inebriated men, swinging like sissies on the smoking patio, neither connecting with anything, and a crowd of drunken jennies trying to pry them apart. I thought, man these guys are so drunk they couldn't probably fight a sixth grader, but that's probably for the best... watching people really fight is scary. And then I thought, hey, I wasn't that place was called Capone's, or something. So there sat Dougherty's for months before, on a suggestion from a friend, I made my way over to try one of their signature stuffed burgers. Snowy early Saturday evening, accompanied by my friend Matt who also has a cheeseburger problem. The first thing I noticed is man, I really dislike the color motif in here. Feels too new, too seafoam. I get tense in places that are too painty, sort of lacking in character. Also places that are too bright. The ambience here is just not to my liking. But whatever. The bartender and chef were both amicable enough. The Black and Blue stuffed burger was reasonably acceptable, actually cooked to medium rare like I prefer. The 'blue cheese mousse' as the chef calls it leaks out everywhere making for a messy sort of deal but hells bells who really cares about that. But all in all, it was just good. Not great. Hey, I don't mind my toppings on top of the burger you know? I'm sure if I continue hanging around south Broadway I'll eventually make my way back to Dougherty's. But something about the combination of factors in my experience there leaves me a tad disinterested in hurrying back. Oh yes, on the plus side, they do have little bowls of jelly bellys on the bar. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were supposed to go to Buenos Aires Grill for its last day and despite loving that place, I just wasn't in the mood for their food. I wanted Fish and Chips. I wanted to go to GB's, but got vetoed. Which was fair since I was deciding to ditch Buenos Aires. Lacey then mentioned an Irish place she had been wanting to try ever since missing the Mac and Cheese tour. Nice call. The food was far above my expectations. The place was quaint, and I appreciated the division between the Tables-esque dining room and the pub/bar. I had the crab-cod cake. Again, an unexpected mix that I really appreciated. I then had the Shrimp Basket. Jumbo tiger shrimp, home made batter, home cut and cooked fries. Excellent. Lacey had the stuffed burger... Look for her review. I'll just give it a 'wow'. Place rules. They served mac & cheese with cut up hot dogs for dinner. I don't think it was on the menu, and instead was a daily special, but it was delish. Also, drink specials for every day of the week are displayed on a chalkboard in plain sight of the bar. I like to let drink specials diversify my pallet for me, and I feel like less of a cheap-o when I can just read them instead of asking. Friendly wait-staff as well. read more

Excellent service while sitting on the patio on a perfect Saturday afternoon. The blue cheese burger is a killer. The onion rings are real onion and very good. The Reuben is very tasty. Came here on a wed night before a seeing a band at the 3 Kings. I had the Peter Piper burger which was stuffed with Jalapenos and Cream Cheese, topped with Pepper Jack cheese and a smoky chipotle mayonnaise. The bun could of been a bit more sturdy as I ended up having to use a knife and fork but it was still an awesome burger. I was actually torn on what to order as they have a great looking menu and next time I am over that way I wont hesitate to grab a bite to eat there. Our server could of been a bit more attentive on drinks as I found myself staring at an empty Guinness glass a couple of times tho the food taking forever to come out wasn't his fault! read more

To cap off a Sunday afternoon of bar hoping, my buddy and I wondered in with hopes of one last enjoyable moment to the weekend before Monday morning. Already on Broadway, we ventured to Dougherty's where we had never been before. It looked much more quant than the standard bars right on Broadway, and the open patio was calling our name. I ended up ordering a couple Guinness drafts and my buddy ordered a pair of beers and their Rueben sandwich. After having been to Breckenridge Brewery just the day before, I was a bit let down by the draft selections, but that is just preference. The food menu, however, was sufficient in incorporating your Irish pub fare and by the look of the Rueben, I imagine all is relatively authentic. The patio, although not huge in size nor anything extravagant, was perfect for an uninterrupted meal and conversation. Since it sits on the side street of Broadway on Ellsworth, you can avoid the clutter, noise, and chaos of Broadway traffic and crazies. I may be biased in my reviews on our waitress, but as a native Minnesotan, she is one of the few that have ever acknowledged or appreciated my North Stars t-shirt that I was wearing. All in all, along with her willingness to tolerate our constant banter, she and the bar itself were awesome! read more

Everything that makes South Broadway great is here. Friendly people, good food and the holy beer. It doesn't hurt that we can walk here.... Stuffed burgers. I know, take a minute. My friend and I shared "The Fallen Drunkard (AKA the Black and Blue)" which by no means is in reference to our state as we wandered out, and the "Dougherty's Cheese Steak" sans green peppers (icky). I had a side salad instead of fries, yummy mix of various greens, cheese, cherry toms, cucumbers, and croutons. A nice mix and more than a generous portion. The burger was goopy and yummy and oozing with hot blue cheese and fat pieces of bacon - a truly beautiful thing. Be careful if you cut it in half, that cheese is molten and will explode, I would warn the same if you decide to just bite in. The cheese steak has a nice kick from jalapeno slices thrown in. It had great flavor and served on soft bread. I couldn't finish my halves and have enough for a whole other meal. The onion rings were fat and the blue cheese very bluesy - stocked with chunks of cheese. Service was great and the place is full of regulars. Went for leg one of the mac n cheese tour! I thought Dougherty's went out of their way for us making individual portions of their mac n cheese. The service was the best I have ever experienced here before and I hope they keep it up! As for the Guinness mac n cheese it wasn't may favorite, but I did enjoy trying it! The noodles were elbow macaroni and the Guinness flavor was present and not too bold which was good. I just wished it was a bit more cheesy. Plus I thought the noodles were a little to overcooked. I did enjoy the bread crumb topping though! I am still a big fan of their ruben's. read more
